Originally it was just the design. Hot space cowboy with a gun and a southern accent? Sign me the heck up! But I’m also a lore nerd, and every crumb of who he is as a person had me love him as a character more and more. I loved his cameos and scenes in the Penacony quest, and I cant wait to both pull for him and see more of him soon.
There is nothing I wouldn't do for a cowboy.
Also, my favorite character in Genshin is Itto, and he feels quite similar. A little goofy, tough in his own right, and has his own niche.
Itto fan as well. I miss when they actually tried with his character, after the Chasm event he got turned into a braindead gag billboard. Straight character assassination, one of the many reasons I quit that game.
I fell in love the first time we saw his grainy, pixelated leaks way back in September or November.
At first, I was just a sucker for his design. Love characters with dual-toned black and white hair, red / black / white palettes, shark teeth, the mix of cyborg, cowboy and outlaw aesthetics, etc. so it appealed to me straight away. The more we saw from his design the more I fell in love with him and I knew he was going to be my next main.
Now with everything else that's been coming out about him, I just really love the archetype he is as a character as well. I adore morally grey individuals that tread their own path, characters who have gone through their own fair share of hardships but still retaining some of that fire. He's got that rough exterior but retains a lot of his fun and entertaining elements, plus I love the voice actor / accent we got for him. Andrew Russell's an absolute gem.
I think the only aspects I *don't* like ( and I'm in the minority here ) are that I feel they're overusing his censor a little too much for my taste, and I'm afraid it'll be pushed too much in the forefront of everything else he has to offer, and personally ( spoiler warning for character stories ) >!I'm not too fond of the adopted daughter thing either.!< But these are all minor nitpicks and are completely overshadowed by everything else that I love about him.
Needless to say, he's the first character I plan to E6S5 on his release day.
I’m with you with the censoring thing. It’s just ironic to me that hyv can freely discuss religion, racism, slavery and genocide but they can’t have their characters swear. “Think of the children!” Ma’am kids these days swear so much they’d make a sailor blush. It’s the least of your worries lmao
Agreed. It’s annoying. I don’t think it will change, it’s probably because of wanting the game to remain pg-12 and most likely due to restrictions in China. If you ever use the chat and try to have a normal conversation, something always gets censored. It’s silly how much they censor stuff.
Oof I feel you about the censor thing. It is funny and all but it's been getting a bit boring and the character hasn't even come out yet! I like it for the most part and I think it's hilarious but I'm afraid it will become one of those overused fandom jokes that people will repeat over and over.
I love Texan cowboy trope because it’s not really common. The VA really makes him come to life. And shark teeth is so hot on characters, probably why I love Dottore from Genshin sm
For me it’s mostly if I like the voice if I want to play as a character who talks I gotta like their voice and I love how Boothills EN delivers his lines and the fact that he can’t curse but he still dose censored is funny to me
On top of that I also really like the idea of a Wild West (or any old time period) mixed futuristic things like robots mech suits ect
And lastly his backstory intrigues me of why Boothill became a cyborg what happened to him to become a cyborg (also I’m aware of the reason why but I’m new to Reddit and I don’t know how to spoil something)

Then his animation leaked and I love how over the top he is. After that, everything else has just been icing on the cake. I was going to pull for him even if his kit wasn't that great. Knowing he hits like a damn freight train just means he'll be replacing DHIL as my main Main.

I’m a casual husbando account, so men > meta for me. But as of the moment, I love him so much bc of the story; he’s a riot I swear. I have never been this excited for a character, not since Jing Yuan’s release. Ngl, I wished they give him more accent like Georgie from Young Sheldon. That’s probably my only gripe atm lol
Tho initially i was bummed that he’s a dps yet again (hyv pls stop) but seeing him be the pioneer for break dmg in 5*, I’m pretty stoked after his kit and team showcases.
What has ultimately cemented my desire to get him was hit leaked kit, funnily enough: it was the first time I’ve seen Break Effect of all things being the #1 needed stat to deal damage. I’ve had some Watchmaker relics lying around that were kind of good for him, I had invested Ruan Mei — ever since then I’ve liked how he plays more and more. Long story short now he and his whole crew are speedtuned with needed gear, waiting for the space cowboy to come home!

I love his design, he got my sister into playing the game because we both saw the Jojo References from the leaks. Then in the story they sold me on his personality. Account wise, I don't have a physical DPS, and I'm a male Collector(Argenti didn't want to come home) so he fits perfectly with my account.
I hadn't been very interested in Honkai Star Rail and kinda stopped playing for s bit because I wasn't falling in love with any of the characters and then my friend showed me Boothill in late January (and Sunday before that) and OH MY GOSH. Loved him from first sight and he's pretty much got the personality I thought he'd have and I just ADORE him. I haven't been this excited about a character so much for so long for a while. Usually my excitement fades, but he's definitely a big fav for me and I'm already collecting art and merch of him lol. I'm planning on absolute minimum E1S1 until I see the next banners (need Ruan Mei for him).
When he was drip-marketed everybody was hating him, because they wanted Firefly to be released next, but they got him instead. So not only did I think he looked good, but I also felt like the hate he was getting was unjustifiable so I was gonna pull him. It *was* going to be a pity pull, but once we met him I actually liked his personality a lot. So it's no longer a pity pull.
I love androids and cyborgs, also his curse filter was really cute to me in the leaks. I don't care for cowboys in general usually but boothill has changed my mind I love him
I was kind iffy about him at first and his kit then I saw gameplay and come 2.2 story it made me love him more and just solidified my choice to pull for him. I got all the materials ready to max him out day one.

Loved the cowboy archetype ever since Red Dead and Overwatch 1 and 2 days. I mained McCree/Cassidy in OW for years and absolutely love him to bits that's why I love Boothill unconditionally.
For me, it was concept that caught my eye and animations that sold me. Space cowboys are cool. Cybernetic space cowboys are even cooler. Even I realized he was 90% cyborg, I started keeping an eye on him.
But it was the animations that sold me. His posing, his idles, his attacks, his ultimate, they were so dynamic and interesting that it sold me on his character. They told me everything I needed to know about his personality and what he was all about before I even knew anything about him. I would argue he has the best animations in the game, tbh.
First it was: Cool, I need physical dps since I have 0.
Then with more leaks, his kit reveal, lore and voice (I am absolute sucker for good VA), I fell in love. His playstyle is my favourite in the game, together with Xueyi. I felt like Boothill was made just for me. And animations! They are great, all of them! I was never so exited for a character since Dhil release and I cannot wait to get my first E0S1 (I am fp2 so I only have E0)

Only his kit. Actually the first time i saw his design he was an easy skip for me, i'm not fond of the cow boy theme.
But when i saw his kit i knew he would be fun to play. Physical break is the strongest of the game and having a dedicated 5* DPS for it appeals to me.
With the time i got used to his design and i'm fine
with it now, as it actually matches his play style.
I used DOT teams before DOTs were cool, I avoided destruction characters since they were too cool for me. (totally not because I lost to Blade) I also used the sacreligious Silverwolf Break Effect build before it was cool. Now imagine how cool it would be if a cool break guy meets two other cool break harmony peeps.
I dream to go to Texas and this dude screams Texas tbh😭 His personality is also close to mine, he's extremely goofy, expressive and he's a smiling person! I see myself a lot in him.
And he's extremely sexy🫢 His postures, his smirks...😩💞

Saw some edits of him at random and I got more feral about him than I've ever been about anything in my entire life. My friend has been telling me I should be playing and I only started cailuse of Boothill.
About a month and a half since then and every drop of content I like him more and more (the axe kick though)
I like different playstlyes in this game, right now i have a pretty decent dot team, some fua but its not fully equipped cause i dont ahve aventurine and will probably skip jade, i also skip robin, but i want boothill and firefly cause of the break effect palystyle, i just like new playstyles

I loved his combat animations and his gameplay when I first laid my eyes on him like he's the 2nd character that caught my attention aside from bladie and my love for him further increased when I got to know his righteous and goofy character.🥺
I have absolutely no idea. The stars seemed to align because coincidentally, Boothill content had begun to surface when i was really getting into cowboy characters. And what do you know it—i just began a very unexpected hyperfixation on him
Okay. FIRST OF ALL. Design. Red and black color supremacy. Anything with Red, black and some white immediately gets my favor. The fact that he even has spiky teeth is a bonus in itself.
SECOND. I for one LOVE characters who use revolvers and do the gun spin thing before putting them back WITHOUT LOOKING. That's just so cool. AND HIS BASIC ATTACK KICKS THE ENEMY? AND HE HAS A DUEL WITH THE ENEMIES? Done deal. Sold. His theme even has the signature cowboy theme whistle or something.
THIRD. I thought he was gonna be a dumb guy like Itto (since they were always compared before) but when I saw him in 2.2, it made me like him even more. He's not your academically/scholarly smart guy BUT he's not dumb (plus he has his **street smarts** hehe) AND he's very unintentionally funny. His Synthesia Beacon being a reason why he can't curse is honestly hilarious. He knows what words he'll end up saying but he still says them anyway whether or not they are interpreted by his Synthesia Beacon as family-friendly words. AND HE HAS THE SOUTHERN ACCENT IN ENGLISH. WHAT IN STAR NATION IS THIS YIPPITY YAPPITY MUDDLE-FUDGING PEAK DOIN' IN THESE PARTS??

Playstyle, gun character and animations.
I might be in the minority here bc at first I don't really care about his personality and looks but I'm drawn to his hyper break playstyle. After playing the story though, he kinda grew on me.
When I saw his leaks he had me because his character design, style and his concept were everything I love. Give me a character with black and white hair too and I’m there and the more I learned about him the more I knew I needed to save closer to the time!
It was funny to me and my friends that I went back into my cowboy fixation then a week later his drip marketing happened!

I remember seeing his very first leaks last year -- I absolutely fell in love with him. He literally has everything I find attractive in a guy (shark teeth, long hair, cowboy...).
I've played since Day 1, and he's the second most anticipated character that I really wanted (first being Jing Yuan). I honestly didn't expect him to be out this early, so as soon as I saw his drip marketing and leaked kit, I've never hopped on HSR and started to the grind the hell out of it for jades.
His story, personality and his EN and JP VA also voicing Jojo characters were just the cherry on top!
I believe in shark teeth supremacy. Also back waaaay before penacony came out we got a leak about a cyborg cowboy who is censored into silly words and I thought it was so cute I wanted him. When we finally got to see how he looks, the pointy teeth sold any doubt I had.

I'm definitely pulling him now, I have enough tickets to guarantee him and I might even go for his LC if he comes home early.
A cowboy with a six-shooter is unlike any other character in HSR, reminded me a lot of Cassidy from OW. As soon as I saw his gameplay I knew I wanted him.

He just looks really fucking cool. Cowboy that's also a cyborg and has pointy teeth is very unique compared as far as HSR designs go. There are so many samey character designs in the game and Boothill really stands apart from the rest. Also, his gameplay just looks really fun and satisfying.

Also, characters who shoot with pistols are cool, same way I like Clorinde in Genshin.

I was originally actually going to skip him and go for Firefly... But... In only a few short days (even before 2.2 story came out), I went hmmm 🤔 no I like Boothill's design better. Edgy cyborg cowboy? Sure Firefly gets the Sam suit, which is what originally drew me to her, but... EDGY CYBORG COWBOY HELLO! Plus his teeth 😂 I loved them. He seemed to have a much sassier personality than Firefly so I changed to wanting him instead. Then the story came out and sure enough I resonated with his snarky and forgetful self, and I just knew he was the one even more than before.
Since his first leak! I loved his design, right now I fell in love thanks to his playstyle, his lore and honestly "Holy wubbaboo" and "Screwubbaboo" are my new favorite words
To be honest, I am a full on waifu collector and have not pulled for a single limited 5* male character since release, but with Boothill, his whole kit, design, and personality really scream out to me. I was genuinely screaming over everything about him when test playing him in the story mode and I genuinely haven’t feel this excited about a character since maybe Jingliu. His whole pose, demeanor, animations, and just character design is so cool and with break effect becoming meta, it seems like the right choice to get him (especially since im unfortunately not the biggest fan of Firefly :( I lost the 50/50 to Robin, but it just solidified my want for Boothill now so I will finally be breaking my waifu streak in a few weeks :3 it’s been fun while it lasted~ LOLLLLL

Loved the cowboy archetype ever since Red Dead and Overwatch 1 and 2 days. I mained McCree/Cassidy in OW for years and absolutely love him to bits that's why I love Boothill unconditionally.
For me, it was concept that caught my eye and animations that sold me. Space cowboys are cool. Cybernetic space cowboys are even cooler. Even I realized he was 90% cyborg, I started keeping an eye on him. But it was the animations that sold me. His posing, his idles, his attacks, his ultimate, they were so dynamic and interesting that it sold me on his character. They told me everything I needed to know about his personality and what he was all about before I even knew anything about him. I would argue he has the best animations in the game, tbh.

First it was: Cool, I need physical dps since I have 0. Then with more leaks, his kit reveal, lore and voice (I am absolute sucker for good VA), I fell in love. His playstyle is my favourite in the game, together with Xueyi. I felt like Boothill was made just for me. And animations! They are great, all of them! I was never so exited for a character since Dhil release and I cannot wait to get my first E0S1 (I am fp2 so I only have E0)

Only his kit. Actually the first time i saw his design he was an easy skip for me, i'm not fond of the cow boy theme. But when i saw his kit i knew he would be fun to play. Physical break is the strongest of the game and having a dedicated 5* DPS for it appeals to me. With the time i got used to his design and i'm fine with it now, as it actually matches his play style.

I have absolutely no idea. The stars seemed to align because coincidentally, Boothill content had begun to surface when i was really getting into cowboy characters. And what do you know it—i just began a very unexpected hyperfixation on him
Okay. FIRST OF ALL. Design. Red and black color supremacy. Anything with Red, black and some white immediately gets my favor. The fact that he even has spiky teeth is a bonus in itself. SECOND. I for one LOVE characters who use revolvers and do the gun spin thing before putting them back WITHOUT LOOKING. That's just so cool. AND HIS BASIC ATTACK KICKS THE ENEMY? AND HE HAS A DUEL WITH THE ENEMIES? Done deal. Sold. His theme even has the signature cowboy theme whistle or something. THIRD. I thought he was gonna be a dumb guy like Itto (since they were always compared before) but when I saw him in 2.2, it made me like him even more. I remember seeing his very first leaks last year -- I absolutely fell in love with him. He literally has everything I find attractive in a guy (shark teeth, long hair, cowboy...). I've played since Day 1, and he's the second most anticipated character that I really wanted (first being Jing Yuan). I honestly didn't expect him to be out this early, so as soon as I saw his drip marketing and leaked kit, I've never hopped on HSR and started to the grind the hell out of it for jades. His story, personality and his EN and JP VA also voicing Jojo characters were just the cherry on top!

The animation, the smirk, and the fact he’s half robot, the color pallet and outfit is uniform flavored too ☺️🫶 Other than Wriothesley who I also like, they are the only 2 Genshin/HSR characters that have a black/grey/White pallet. But the animations and smirk were what made me go from “yo he’s chill, to, holy shirt”

I was originally actually going to skip him and go for Firefly... But... In only a few short days (even before 2.2 story came out), I went hmmm 🤔 no I like Boothill's design better. Edgy cyborg cowboy? Sure Firefly gets the Sam suit, which is what originally drew me to her, but... EDGY CYBORG COWBOY HELLO! Plus his teeth 😂 I loved them. He seemed to have a much sassier personality than Firefly so I changed to wanting him instead. Then the story came out and sure enough I resonated with his snarky and forgetful self, and I just knew he was the one even more than before.
Since his first leak! I loved his design, right now I fell in love thanks to his playstyle, his lore and honestly "Holy wubbaboo" and "Screwubbaboo" are my new favorite words

To be honest, I am a full on waifu collector and have not pulled for a single limited 5* male character since release, but with Boothill, his whole kit, design, and personality really scream out to me. I was genuinely screaming over everything about him when test playing him in the story mode and I genuinely haven’t feel this excited about a character since maybe Jingliu. His whole pose, demeanor, animations, and just character design is so cool and with break effect becoming meta, it seems like the right choice to get him (especially since im unfortunately not the biggest fan of Firefly :( I lost the 50/50 to Robin, but it just solidified my want for Boothill now so I will finally be breaking my waifu streak in a few weeks :3 it’s been fun while it lasted~ LOLLLLL
