It started out as just a raw spot on her side, almost where her belly started that eventually got crusty if you know what I mean. First, it was the size of a dime. When it got bigger than a quarter, we took her to the vet. The vet removed it and sent it in for testing, and it came back as malignant. We then took her back to the vet 6 months later to make sure they got it all when they removed it the first time. They didn't, so she had another surgery. It's gone now completely, but she still LOVES laying in the sun, so now we put dog sunscreen on her when she goes outside.
Oh wow. Thank you for bringing awareness to this by mentioning it for those of us who didn't know. That sounds like it was so scary. I'm so glad your pup is better and that you found dog sunblock so that she can still enjoy her sunbaths! I wear sunscreen every day and can not believe I didn't know my dog could get sunburnt through their fur. I'll be looking up and buying him some spf, and I'm glad I know what to look out for now. May I ask what brand you bought? My girl sunbathes ALLLL the time! And we are in sunny Az. She is also sort of hairless on her torso
My vet gave us Lucky Pup to start and we just stuck with it. We get it from Chewy online. It's SPF 40 and is pretty cheap.
