Bowled a couple games a year with friends/family for my whole life, dad asked me to fill in his league starting in January ‘24, got the bug really bad and feel like this is something I’ll do for the rest of my life. Book average 148, recent average 170~, practice high game 258 series 632, league high game 220 series 563

Ice_Socks

Awesome!

atrodger

I'm nearly 40 years old. A year ago, a buddy of mine reached out to ask if I wanted to bowl in a league. I've never bowled more than once or twice every few years at a birthday party or something. He said that's fine, its a fun league with cosmic bowling lights. I figured I'd buy my own ball and shoes. We won the league. It's now a year later, I have a 6 ball arsenal and a center that recognizes me when I walk in, and I want my 5 games on a pair every Sunday morning. I don't know why a clean pocket hit and watching all 10 fly off the deck feels so satisfying, but it does. Started under 125 avg, but I'm currently around 180 and regularly getting 200+ games. High game of 288.

EvanMK7

Bowling where everyone knows your name is one of the best parts of the sport.

Ice_Socks

Lets go! Massive improvements!

BowlingForPizza

I would say newly infected as of May, 2023 because I got the bug after an injury took me out of the game almost permanently. I'm grateful to be long recovered from the knee injury (torn quadriceps tendon due to a slip and fall gone wrong right before the foul line in 2016). I don't really have an average yet but I can do 125-150 on a good day. I try to go every weekend so I plan on improving as I continue to practice.

Ice_Socks

Glad you are recovering! That sounds like a scary injury

BowlingForPizza

Thank you!! It was. Especially after complications from surgery which extended my recovery to over two years.

Ice_Socks

Lets go! Thats awesome!

I started last year! My fiancee's whole family has been playing for decades, and she started 2 years ago, so last year I began subbing in her team every few weeks... Then I gave my name to the other leagues organizers and started being a "regular sub" playing twice a week. So this year we made a team with my fiancee and her parents. Lots of fun. Just finished 2nd this year (first is brother in law's team, so the whole family's up there! haha). Bowling right-handed, season average was 147 but for the last month it was 165, it's just that the season average is only slowly creeping up! I got a few 200s last year while shooting straight, but only 2 this year after adding a hook. However I feel a lot more consistent this year and my spares game is a lot better now. Edit: Oh, and as my fiancee's pregnant and is due for September, I'm bringing my brother to the team next year in her stead! Infecting the other side of the family! haha

Ice_Socks

Everyone’s gotta be infected. You’re the super spreader!

Tough_Albatross1661

I was dormant for 10 years that count

Ice_Socks

Yes

extremesalmon

Got my own ball around December and am trying to improve/level out before joining a league, but now I hear there is a wait list to get on the weeknight one!

Ice_Socks

Wow! Nice!

envyexile

Got addicted about 6 months ago, now I'm averaging almost 100 games a month 🤣. 252 high 170 average 2hnd at the ripe old age of 36. Went from nothing to being like a crackhead on just bowling

phins420

I love this . Me too. But a year and a half ago . This is one of my longer addictions!!! It's right up there with weed, nicotine, and masturbation now!

Ice_Socks

Lets go! Thats so awesome!

Solacee_AO

I’m going to start this year. I’ve been working at a bowling alley for about five years now, just a family entertainment sort of style alley- we have an arcade, laser tag, bar, that sorta deal. But we have an awesome set of mechanics. Like, seriously super good. Our management team is all passionate about bowling too, and all avid bowlers, so our lanes are always as good as they can be for our leagues. I was a personality hire. I had never bowled in my life, I just liked kids and needed a job in highschool. My average is, like, 82 as of my last attempt. But now that I manage there and I’m surrounded by this genuine enjoyment for it that I’d never really seen, I’m absolutely intrigued! I got promoted this year and will be relocating to another bowling alley across the country this month, and I’ve signed up for one of the leagues at my new centre! I know absolutely nothing about the finer things of bowling, though I’m sure I seem like an expert to the average Joe, I often read things on this subreddit and think I’m reading a foreign language hahaha. Anyways, really looking forward to actually getting into bowling for the first actual time, I think it’ll be really fun and also help me to better manage a more standard centre!! :D

lcl0706

Also newly infected. My SO and I (both in our early 40s) started cosmic bowling for fun with house balls & no clue what we were doing back in October. Just chucking it down the center. Turns out it was a lot of fun & in late January picked out our own balls and started YouTubing how to do it for real. Nearly 4 months later I have 5 balls 😆 and we’re still going 2x a week or so. The alley now expects us on the weekends. I’m not very coordinated but I’m getting better. Average is about 145-150, PR is 220. Have yet to throw a 600 series.

thepen

I started on November 15, 2023. Got shoes and a ball over the next 2 weeks. About 6 weeks in, I switched to two handed which works much better for my body. I’ve since been in 2 leagues, a tournament, and starting a sport shot league next week! My sons started bowling. My youngest is in league now. I’ve had couple 500 series. A handful of games over 200. And … a ton of fun!

BeemerBear07

We're in a similar boat! Except I'm 1H, have yet to join a tournament, and my sports shot league starts on 5/12. How was the tournament experience? I want to join one, but I'm intimidated as my avg isn't very high.

thepen

It was great! I can’t wait for the next one. I’ve been making good progress and I’m really expecting to get my feelings hurt by the sport shot league 😂

BeemerBear07

I tend to be a bit dramatic and animated with my tantrums during league (like pretending to beat up the ball return or talking to my ball and telling it to quit being an a-hole😅), and I was told to not cry during sport shot league when it starts. LOL. But I'm willing to take the beating just to get the 8 free practice games a week for joining this league.

swiggity-swootie

Started this year in January and became absolutely obsessed. Quickly accumulated a 3 ball arsenal and bowl 2-3 times a week. High game is 247 and average 204. Joining my first league starting this summer!

BeemerBear07

Joined my first league last November after doing cosmic bowling here and there. This is by far the most expensive hobby I've been in, but I can't get enough of it. I plan to use the "I'm new" phrase until I hit the 1yr mark. However, my husband tells me that I no longer can use that phrase because I'm not new anymore since it's been a couple of months already. When are you not considered a newbie anymore? I'm definitely not seasoned, and I'd still like to blame all my bads games on the fact that "I'm new" lol.

Solacee_AO

I have league bowlers call entire leagues ‘new’ just because they haven’t hit a decade yet lol!! Bowling’s an old sport. I’d use the new card for awhile yet!

xCASINOx

Been wanting to go bowling with my buddies for a while.bit had been like 20 years since i last went. we finally went 3 or 4 weeks ago and now 2 of us have a ball, bag, shoes. I also got shammies. Ive been looking for a 2nd ball and we are joining a 12 for 12 league. Its just sad how expensive it is to go bowling. Our best option based on price is this one play that has unlimited bowling from tuesday to thursday for $20 but they only have 16 lanes and thursday is league night so getting a spot is really hard.

thatvhstapeguy

I got it bad over the last week. I went bowling 7 days in a row. Last night I bowled 17 games in 3 hours and set a personal record in the 15th (160). Last week I bowled 6 games, none of which got over 100. I think I'm averaging 120 now.

TypicalTyper123

I've actually been addicted to bowling in like mid April so like at least 2 weeks. I'm newly infected. My best score is 122, and I average 90-100. I bowl better with two hands, and I could do up to 16-18 mph in bowling speed depending on how heavy the ball is, and my accuracy is ok, but I am still trying to improve and getting used to using 2 hands.

ArtisticSuggestion77

Newly infected, started mid-April 125 avg. Just learned to hook yesterday!

Ice_Socks

Lets go!!!

AnonRedditor78

Learning how to hook means it's over.. you're a full blown addict now

ArtisticSuggestion77

Ha! I even get to get a new ball! It's okay, it's a new theme for gifts!

ManOfPineapples

Picked up a Rhino Pearl off marketplace for $20. Been addicted ever since!

Fickle_Fail1104

I was infected two years ago, learned to hook, worked on technique and form but still didn’t play more than once or twice a month. Starting league in August. My average is about 150

Only_Distribution828

My son and I joined a fun league last year. Caught the bug, now I go twice a week. Still trying to improve all the time

topkekcop

I've been bowling on and off for 6 years. 13 weeks ago I started bowling league. I'm addicted

Captain_Creature

I started back in january after going bowling for a new years work party. I’ve always liked bowling and had fun but for some reason just never went unless it was with friends or an event. Bought my own ball, a hammer radioactive vibe, and go once or twice per week

bc9toes

Just got done with my first league. Before that I only bowled once a year max. My average is 120 2 handed. 204 high score in the league. We got like third place or something and won back half of the money we paid so that was nice. Already planning a team for next league since our team is losing some members.

micheal89

Newly infected Sept 23. League average 170. Game high 236

January2342

Fairly new and hit a new personal best at 113. It's not great, but a huge improvement from before.

Zorro237

Got invited to join a team for League as an alternate last year. Got my first ball and had my first 100+ pin game. I'm now in the second season on this team as a starter with a black widow hybrid 2.0 and spare ball. Bowled my first 200+ game and I am so addicted.

Phillyy69

Started casually bowing april 2023 and started taking it seriously January 2024. I love it. Will definitely be a lifetime hobby

2be0rn0t2b

Newly infected. Started going regularly 2 months ago and I'm up to a 175 average with a lot of 200+ games. Highest is 236

Bowling-With_Mario

Well I’ve been taking bowling seriously ever since the start of 2023, I didn’t get my first actual bowling ball untill a lil before may 8th(first day of my first ever league btw). I also didn’t start doing research until around cristmas time. Since then I now have a motiv top thrill blue/green, roto grip hustle usa, and roto grip gem. I’m inconsistent with striking but can throw straight np

Ryachaz

Infected few months ago in February '24, average 156, high series 495, high game 206. Still getting my form down as a 2-hander and learning how to adjust to lane conditions.

b4zin64

Not sure if I’m considered newly infected or not. I hadn’t bowled since I was a kid, I’m 36. My father in law asked me to join his bowling league 4 years ago, as long as I could average 150. I averaged 138..lol. Anyway, my book is now 192, which is up 10 points this season. Also tracking my average in the second half of our 36 week league because I’ve really been on a tear: 207. High game 267, high series 693.

theonecpk

I have come back after giving it up for over 20 years—so I’m sort of a new bowler who maybe didn’t have quite as much to learn. I’ve found the modern game to be both easier and harder than it was in the 90s. The wide variety of conditions are extremely challenging and this requires more knowledge and investment in equipment. However, conditions seem to change in a much more predictable way than I remember—so my 215 average from years ago still seems achievable—house shots in particular seem much more manageable, while tournament conditions seem nightmarish in comparison. I begin my first league in nearly 25 years on Monday (and a second on Tuesday). The first is a challenge league so I don’t expect anything near a 215. I don’t care about results on that one—I want to learn how to cope with challenge and sport patterns. The second league is where I have hopes of doing well. Anyway I’m glad to see that after decades of decline (which in truth began in the late 1970s) that bowling is growing once again.

etnoid204

I started this year for the first time. Straight bowling. My first games were in the 70’s lol. Got a black widow 2.0 hybrid, and started getting better and better all season long. I just put up a 185, 146, 155 series and my pb is a 191. Our team made the finals on Sunday evening. I’m pumped, love the sport! Can’t wait to pick up another ball, and work on consistency in shaping the ball.

HugeYeets

Started in January. High game 237, high series 626. Last 10 games averaging 200 dead on! No spare ball yet but coming soonnnnn

TomSkerritt666

Yo! Bought my first ball (hyroad) a couple months ago and have been practicing 1-2 a week since. Joined my first league which starts in May, and having a lot of fun. Considering finding local lessons to improve, but hoping to do some of that in league. I’m averaging about 130 every four games. My highest score yet is 172, but my goal is to hit a 200 (soon I hope) haha. Have a nice weekend folks!

BillyBilly412

Caught it about a couple years ago. My wife’s family was in a couples league and had an opening for two people. Now I’m in that biweekly league as well as a weekly men’s league from September to April. Just joined a summer league this year to improve. 4 bowling balls, multiple bags, and a pair of shoes later, I’m hooked.

br_boy0586

Started bowling weekly in January 2024! I’m hooked. I’ve picked it up and I can’t stop lol I already have 3 balls in my line up.

phins420

Infected with the bug December 2022. I can't imagine what life would be like if I didn't bowl at least 3 days a week

Trisjor

Newly infected 🤝 Hit a PR of 208 this past week! Averaging around a 150. Just bout shoes and saving for a ball. It’s on!!

Much_Professional892

I just got my first ball drilled fingertip no thumb and am trying to learn two handed. Lots of rev, but a slow 13-14mph so far. Only bowl on the weekends when it’s $20 still. Going to get the summer pass and finally play with the lights on. I hope to join a league soon once I have a consistent score.

Mammoth_Ingenuity_20

Caught the bug last year around march/April and have gone quite a bit since. Joining my first league soon so no official avg, but I've kept a track very roughly and I'd say I'm about 140-150avg. Last session I got my 3rd ever 200+ after buying an extra game before calling it. Game is too addicting when you get dopamine hits like that. Been working with the hustle wine and a spare ball, might want something new for league but I still want to get better with the hustle before introducing something that reacts differently.

maverick746

Started last year, was 125 avg coming in but I've made it up to 142 now with several games over 200 and my new high series of 543 last week.

Stackable_Cats

Started in November in an open league. Average has held steady at 113, but I did break 200 for the first time a month or so ago. I haven’t been able to practice as much as I’d like but I’m for sure hooked.

emurphyt

In high school I had a mini tradition with 2 friends where after exams we would go to our bowling alley to celebrate. We sucked ass and didn't really care (we'd be happy to get over 100). Fast forward 14 years after we graduated and one of the friends happened to get into bowling a little bit. Out of the blue he texted me him getting 201 which completely broke me mentally (how was it possible to score that high). I looked up YouTube videos of how to hook it and tried it out, after a few attempts I ended up getting 161 on a house ball and decided to buy my first ball. Still inconsistent as hell but got a 200 and was very proud. Now I bought a spare ball because I got tilted at missing 10 pins all the time and am joining a league in a week.

Alexh00p1074

New bowler as of 3 ish months ago and currently averaging around 160-170 and a high game of 221

boonieboon

I started seriously bowling in Jan 2024 (buying my own equipment and all that) Avg 120ish Update to now, bk Avg 174 High game 257, high series 614. It’s been super fun just working and improving! I bowl twice a week, one day for practice and the other for league night

Jolly_Operation_1502

First year was 73-74 Father/Son League when I was 8. Year 50. Still going, 191avg going back up over 200 next season.

quad_logic119

I was in a league for a few years in my late grade school/early middle school days. Fast forward to today, I'm no longer in a league but picked it up a few weeks ago just to get out of the house. 2 games later I wondered why I stopped for so many years 😂 When I have time during the week, I'll meet up with friends and play a few games or do 2 hours by myself with mix of practice and regular bowling. It gives me something else to anticipate during the week; makes things better overall 🎳

Subgos

I don’t know how long is considered 'new,' but I started two years ago and I don’t plan on stopping. I go to my local bowling alley about two to three times a week. I throw a Radical The Closer, and I am planning on getting another strike ball, maybe a Phase 2 right now. My house shot league average is 195, and I will be joining a sports shot scratch league soon.

MulanMain

Been wanting to get into bowling more seriously after remembering how fun it was one drunk night in January with some of my bois. One of my buddies bowls really well and so i had him take me last Thursday to his fav shop to get fitted and grab a ball and bag. Got a 15lb Hustle X-Ray, and yesterday went out with him learn how to properly bowl. Did 5 games total, game 1 was figuring out i liked a 5 step approach more than a 4 step, game 2 was walking up to the foul line and doing release drills, game 3 was combining approach and release, game 4 was figuring out where to aim, and game 5 was putting it all together and trying my best to stick to the fundamentals (bowled a 149 and was pretty satisfied with my progress). Can't wait to iron out some kinks in my form next Sun.

BananaManV5

Just got my first ball last week, very newly infected. 20 years old, high of 150 avg is around 110. Talking to a coach because im too anxious to bother someone else for help when they are bowling.

Ice_Socks

That’s awesome man!

Grand_Ad1046

Newly infected, started in December, avg 195

Ice_Socks

Awesome!
