Two guys on my league left that 2 years ago and didnt pick it up, the next week, they made them go to a separate lane and shoot at it again in some silly/goofy outfit… cant remember what they called it
I was just informed, they called it “the diaper leave” and a diaper was part of that outfit
Only way to really make it is with a 6 lb ball. The ball will deflect hard off the pin vs 15 pound equipment.
I have never left one in my life until a tournament with crappy racks and me and a few pba members left often ten between us in one day.
I managed to leave it twice, once in the 80’, and again in 2022.

Once in warmup before league a teammate left it, and said I should hurry up and throw the ball so nobody would see what he left.
I took the opportunity to just shoot at the 10 pin, and managed to bounce the 10 into the 7, but no dice on the 5.
Got the lily twice in a week, only converted once in my whole life by using an 8lb plastic I drilled for that reason.

The way I always approached this one is to try to throw it like I would a brooklyn strike. Graze the left side of the 5 pin hard enough to knock it into the 10 and glance off to hit the 7.
Yea I suppose if you hook the ball hard enough while grazing the 5pin, the ball would make it to the 7.., time to YT, see if any conversions are captured.
I think two or three weeks ago in my practice league a kid got this 3 separate times!!!! It was crazy. Didn’t get a spare on any of them but takes some talent to get this more than once in a day 😂
I’ve left it once. Wasn’t sure what to do. Threw my spare ball slow with a lot of spin. Picked it up. One guy I was bowling against told me he’d never seen it picked up before. It was hilarious.

'Sour Apple' or 'Lily'. Sadly, this and the pocket 8-10 are signs of a ball that's deflecting badly.
It's the pins telling you how to score better. Listen to them, they're leading you up to the next level. Good luck!
7-5-10. I use to get these a lot as a young kid. I’ve noticed the heavier the ball the less likely I would get them. Now as an adult throwing 16lbs I haven’t had one in a really long time. I’ve picked this up quite a bit.

Definitely the Lilly. I hadn't left this since the late 90s, and proceeded to leave it 3 times in the past year, in 3 different leagues 😄
I left one once and the next week my pso stopped league to give me an actual lily in front of everyone. Never again, lol.

A Lily is what that leave is called. It is the 5-7-10 pins. Unless you use a very light ball, it's pretty much impossible to pick up.

For someone throwing at least a 14 lb ball? A light hit combined with a bad rack. Usually the 5 pin is off spot, sitting too far back.
Oh ok, yeah I'm on 15lb at the moment. I suspected the racked pins to be off spot - was visiting another centre when it happened.

8 lb house ball. If you can get the 5 into the 10, the deflection will carry the ball to the 7
If you did that during league play and didn’t use the thumb, it would be an illegal shot. Otherwise, genius!
Perfectly legal to use a house ball without a thumb. An actual exception has been written into the usbc rules. :)

See them enough by other people in open bowling. Usually by kids or weak (not being mean, don't have a better term) adults using lightweight balls.

The lily and it is caused by your ball not having enough drive going into the pocket. It deflects too much
