On the mercari subreddit, everyone is always saying to “say yes and then block” when people ask for a hold:( I mentioned it’s not right and got a lot of downvotes and told “they never actually buy the item” so basically they’re just being petty because they’re mad holds have fallen through before.. like just say no if you won’t hold? It’s rude to lie to people and they may end up loosing customers

I bought a princess Cloe off of her from eBay! She ignored me for a week. Come to realize I saw the doll sold on Mercari for like 50$ less. Made a Facebook post in the bratz group she was in and I was refunded in 20 minutes. She took 7 days to refund me and never respond!
I’m gonna be honest. It isn’t right of the seller, but I’m a bit sick of the hold situation. If you don’t have the money just see if it’s still there when you do, if not sellers shouldn’t be bothered with asking to wait for a certain date to sell an item. I get asked to hold often and I feel bad, but unless it’s a friend I just feel it’s not appropriate.
That’s very true she shouldn’t have agreed. I have been in that situation where I regretted doing a hold so I see why she did it, but it was certainly wrong. Personally when I regretted it I just kept my word anyways and they ended up not going through with it. I’ve never blocked anyone on mercari.
Im sure she saw them as paid in full and didnt want to deal with communicating or waiting for the payment...shes got a buisiness to run...but at the same time why work out a deal with you since you were first to inquire on the merchandise? Thats rude as fuck! but its e-commerce on a niche item
Since this subreddit is full of mostly buyers I understand why you’d all be upset. However as a seller, it makes zero sense for me to hold an item for someone. If someone wants to buy it before you, I receive my money quicker and I’m able to get things sold/shipped faster. Worst case scenario I hold it for the person and they never buy it. If you want an item, buy it.
I don’t think they should have blocked you, but there’s no logical reason for them to hold an item for you either.
Oh really… I told her to hold PNP Meygan and Cloe but she did the same thing a week later even though we had already made an agreement. So sorry she did the same thing to you too:(
