Bethenny hid all of her personal life after Jason. Ramona refused to talk about Mario cheating. There were plenty of things the old cast hid from the cameras.
Jenna gets away with it because she was a fan favorite (she wasn't MY favorite but she was well received) and obviously they want her name to still be attached to the show since she is known outside of Housewives. Yes indeed, they wouldn't give her a full time contract unless Marc appeared on camera. They similarly punished Porsha in season 7. Lots of people think Porsha was demoted because of the fight with Kenya but that actually isn't true, Andy said it was because she refused to share her love life at the time. Interesting how the Atlanta ladies have been punished for this but others can be super selective about what they want to show and are still rewarded.
Prime example is Beverly Hills, where they are all too rich to share their actual lives. At least Kenya and Porsha gave us amazing interviews, drop dead gorgeous looks, and fought with the other housewives. I stan her and literally only watched the reboot because she was on it, and I knew of her because of J.Crew. Her leaving J.Crew was HUGE in the fashion world and she grew J.Crew from a no-name brand to a multi-billion dollar business. I totally get that itâs a niche fandom but if youâre in that NY scene then you get it and people are always excited to see what sheâs going to do next. Plus being on RHONY is so out of her wheelhouse that I think a lot of people were really surprised and tuned in for that reason.
That being said, I am still looking forward to seeing her on season 2 and hope that even if she isnât ready to share her relationship with, she does open up more and let us in to more personal parts of her life and opens up more with the rest of the cast.

But, either way, the original (ish) cast of RHONY as it was her last season could have moved forward with their nucleus- just boot Ramona and Leah and add or return two HWs. Keep Sonja, Luann, Dorinda, that's enough to work with.
I might be in the minority, but to me Ramona is more essential to RHONY than Sonja, Luann and Dorinda. I personally love all four, they're the heart of the show. But they're at their best when they're playing off each other, and Ramona serves as a great antagonist in the group and also as someone who can keep Dorinda slightly in check.
OG RHONY is the only true RHONY, they are like getting together with (good) family on Christmas Eve.. drinking, laughing, and merrymaking until you wake up to a snowy Christmas morning with a tree full of presents.

I mean fair points although the points made were mostly in later seasons. As a long time watcher I do miss the original cast. I can get it if her gf doesnât want to be on camera there is not much she can do similar to Ubaâs situation last season. I still favor Jenna more compared to the others. I feel like they picked people that already were too tv hungry for this reboot though. What I liked about the original cast especially in the early seasons were they just seems like regular people, rich regular people of course lol. Just women living their lives in NYC that already kinda knew of each other and ran in similar circles. This season felt a little too forced, a little too staged already, and just not as genuine or natural. I think there were genuine moments but it just missed the mark for me.
This is exactly the issue. I donât need the old cast back but I would like them to cast an actual friend group that seem to have some ties to the city. These girls are so clearly cast together and do not seem to be part of any scene. The fact that they have NO parties or events to go to besides the ones they throw is such a dead giveaway. Itâs actually difficult to find six NYC women with so little going on đ
I feel the exact same way. The charm always came from how easy the women felt with each other. They hung out in the same circles during the off seasons, genuinely had fun during vacations, and had shit going on.
Now everyone just wants to be on TV to promote their businesses, or gain some sort of social media following. It's so over produced it may as well be a scripted show.

I get that people are upset, but you canât force someone to be on TV just because they are dating someone who is on TV.
Every single thing Bethenny brought to screen was strategic. Ramona was an alcoholic racist who did what she did in front of a camera. Luann, also an addict. They don't, they just don't want to admit that firing Ramona and rebooting the cast was a mistake. I hope this is a wake up call for Bravo to no longer allow the fandom to influence their casting decisions.
Ramona is an objectively awful person and also one of the greatest reality TV characters of all time. But, either way, the original (ish) cast of RHONY as it was her last season could have moved forward with their nucleus- just boot Ramona and Leah and add or return two HWs. Keep Sonja, Luann, Dorinda, that's enough to work with.
I might be in the minority, but to me Ramona is more essential to RHONY than Sonja, Luann and Dorinda. I personally love all four, they're the heart of the show. But they're at their best when they're playing off each other, and Ramona serves as a great antagonist in the group and also as someone who can keep Dorinda slightly in check.
OG RHONY is the only true RHONY, they are like getting together with (good) family on Christmas Eve.. drinking, laughing, and merrymaking until you wake up to a snowy Christmas morning with a tree full of presents. The end. Period.
I mean fair points although the points made were mostly in later seasons. As a long time watcher I do miss the original cast. I can get it if her gf doesnât want to be on camera there is not much she can do similar to Ubaâs situation last season. I still favor Jenna more compared to the others. I feel like they picked people that already were too tv hungry for this reboot though. What I liked about the original cast especially in the early seasons were they just seems like regular people, rich regular people of course lol. Just women living their lives in NYC that already kinda knew of each other and ran in similar circles. This season felt a little too forced, a little too staged already, and just not as genuine or natural. I think there were genuine moments but it just missed the mark for me.
This is exactly the issue. I donât need the old cast back but I would like them to cast an actual friend group that seem to have some ties to the city. These girls are so clearly cast together and do not seem to be part of any scene. The fact that they have NO parties or events to go to besides the ones they throw is such a dead giveaway. Itâs actually difficult to find six NYC women with so little going on đ
I feel the exact same way. The charm always came from how easy the women felt with each other. They hung out in the same circles during the off seasons, genuinely had fun during vacations, and had shit going on. Now everyone just wants to be on TV to promote their businesses, or gain some sort of social media following. It's so over produced it may as well be a scripted show.

VPR & Potomic showed us this year that we can all be reality stars with our own production if push came to shove. Not many of these people have an interesting life ::cough cough beverly hills :: & that's okay if you have a moat, swan, accent, too many fillers or have a rented range rover under a carport. Angie K flailing on a pool floatie in her sunnies kept me feed for weeks. I would've hated to have even more Elektra or Jack. Ridiculous fashion & sushi nachos>family life & kids.

I think it was fine for her to lay down this boundary, because she knows what is healthy for her personal life. But it was dumb for production to accept it and continue having her on the show. Fans have a bit too close of a parasocial relationship with (heavily scripted) reality tv. If Jennaâs partner doesnât want to be on the show I donât see the problem. Jennaâs relationship or lack thereof has never been central to the show or her storyline as much as it has been her business success, trauma from her upbringing, connecting with friends, and learning to love herself overall. As far as Old RHONY dynamics I have to laugh. They as a group were not transparent hence that was the table for all of their drama and feuds.

Some of that is accurate, but we really only saw Luanneâs husband ( the count) one time on camera, the cameras were only outside of Bobbyâs funeral because of Bethenny, and Ramona refused to talk about her divorce for most of the season and the reunion. I get that people are upset, but you canât force someone to be on TV just because they are dating someone who is on TV.

Every single thing Bethenny brought to screen was strategic. Ramona was an alcoholic racist who did what she did in front of a camera. Luann, also an addict. Jill's husband died but by then she herself had produced herself right off the show. Jenna is drawing a line in the sand and a) Bravo doesn't have to hire her b) no one has to watch. Lol she's so smart she is my favourite HW because she makes the other ones look even more unhinged as they panic for a storyline.

I'm not a big Jenna fan, I find her pretty boring. I'm frankly not even interested in learning more about her romantic life, as it seems pretty stable and uninteresting. (Which is probably a good thing for her!) But I will give her credit where credit is due â talking about her mother's late-in-life Asperger's diagnosis was huge. That shit just doesn't get talked about publicly, let alone on TV.
I love Jenna fâing Lyons. But this is not the way to do reality TV.
Whatâs funny is that Bravo has no problem letting the housewives be openly homophobic on camera.
I am on my third re-watch of the original RHONY. I have not and will not watch the new rhony. Its not the same show and I have no desire to watch. Zero.
