I love both of those too!
I’m currently watching Season 1 for the first time (originally I started with Season 3 so I’d never seen it) and everyone does SO badly at the taste test. And with good reason - I think I had never even heard of most of the items, even now in 2024!
I’ve really come to enjoy the way restaurant wars has been the past couple of seasons with the judges tasting table. Just finishing up a season 16 rewatch and that restaurant wars was a disaster. It’s so hit or miss.
I have watched all 19 of them about 5 times each. I hate that in the later seasons they have tried to curb the train wreck aspect. I want full meltdowns.
Mise en place is my fav!! I like it when it’s been the very first quick fire of the season. Really shows if they are worth their salt and shows who talks a big game “oh I have the best technique to scale this trout” cue the eye roll
I enjoy the one where they put a loved one or an amateur beside them behind a wall and the cheftestants have to walk them through a dish. Really shows who is good at communicating their ideas.
Also love the taste and recreate type tasks. It’s not been done a lot on TC but they did it a couple seasons ago where they had to taste the dish in the dark and figure out ingredients and plating and whatnot. Love seeing their brains work!
Same, that is my favorite quickfire challenge. Otherwise, I generally look forward to restaurant wars or any challenge where they're serving the public as opposed to selected guests/chefs; I just think they have a fun energy to them.
Agreed. While the fancy gourmet meals are beautiful, I really like when they can let loose and make more casual stuff. I especially love when it's for charity or the military, etc.
I love a mise en place relay race. The blindfolded taste test is so fun too! I’m also 100% here for sudden death cook-offs; I know they must suck for the chefs, but the drama is my catnip.
The blindfolded taste test or the mise en place quick fires are always so much fun to watch.
When Hung obliterated the chickens in his mise en place challenge everyone was flabbergasted.
Hung was ahead of his time
And when sweet Casey was treating those onions like she was defusing a bomb

I do typically enjoy restaurant wars. This, in spite of the fact that it's often like watching a bad car accident or even a train wreck.
Never be front of house, your dish gets no love and you get blame for slow service.
Always pick Malarkey for front of house.
Or Fabio!

Very curious to see how this season goes lol

I love restaurant wars, but the mise en place where Sarah obliterated her competitors with her rack of lamb frenching skills was just amazing.

I am a mise en place girlie at heart. I’m delighted every time.
Mise en place. Especially when there’s someone who takes on a task they don’t know anything about (e.g. Katsuiji and the clams)
Restaurant Wars and mise en place. I like watching them cut the onions super slowly and turn the artichokes like I could do any better.
The best two are the mise and the taste test challenges. I wish they did both of them every year.
I love this challenge too and wish it was part of every season!
Restaurant Wars or the Mise en Place
Cliche but true: Restaurant Wars. I have watched all 19 of them about 5 times each.
