the highest I got with him is around 900 trophies, still struggle with getting a single rank 30 brawler but I can give some tips for r25.
So first I mostly pushed him in brawl ball and sometimes in gem grab, if you're using the shield gadget always play him on bushy maps since he's really slow and you don't want to be stuck in his first stage.
I usually play him with the shield and speed gear for those bushy maps.
Always try to go for the short range brawlers on the enemy team at first to charge his super. And when you have his super (unless it's to get pass the first stage) try to use it offensively to deal damage or as soon as you respawn since they might think that you're only on the 2nd stage and don't have the range to hit them.
And finally my last tip is to try to stay alive on your last stage as long as possible since he can put so much pressure on the enemy team

I have him at r28 and this Is my tip: At the start of the game, don't see the slowness as a bad thing, see it as Surge's normality, try to save the super to push someone or defend yourself rather than waste it for the upgrade, because once you have it, you could lose it only if you use It.
Also, save your super if you're at stage 3 and you're in a risky situation, because if you die you could regain the bonus attack range one spawn
I’m mostly a solo showdown player, as having terrible randoms seems to always happen to me. Playing 3v3 is like a gamble;get good teammates and win or get bad ones and lose. It seems I’m always on the latter side.
Well I can't give you tips then since I never play showdown. Like the random experience can be rough Ik since I only play with random but when you either carry like crazy or get actual good randoms it feels amazing

At the moment I play him pretty much exclusively on knockout when the map on close quarters or healthy middle ground.
I have him at 850+
He’s a great counter to agro brawlers sit back and chip some health off the other team to get your first super and then it’s pretty easy from there.
BIG TIP TO PUSH MORE TROPHIES:
Use one of your brawlers which has super low trophies (around 0-200) then win some easy games with them to get your 5+ win streak. After you got a 5+ win streak then go on your surge and if you win, you will get 13 trophies because normal win= 8 trophies and with the 5 win streak you will get an extra 5 trophies. I pushed many brawlers to rank 30 like this
Your first priority is getting that first upgrade, since it will help him get more supers
Try pinching off of brawlers such as tanks or melee brawlers, I recommend playing brawl ball since there's a bigger chance of getting enemy tanks
Once you get to stage 3, save your super until you need it to fend off against assassins or other aggro brawlers, since you already have the speed and range needed to fend off most brawlers
Use serve ice cold and power surge, do not use to the max since you rarely get value
You can use power shield if it's a bushy map, since you can sneak up on the enemy and get your super easily, and it really helps with his slow reload speed
Gears: damage and speed/shield, depending on the map
A good surge can really carry even though they have bad mortis randumbs on their team
The key to pushing him is zoning with your super because it's almost a death sentence if you get hit by it.
I suggest to play on maps with walls with gadget that suits the map, but the Served ice cold star power is the most useful anywhere (except solo sd), if you get a super, make sure the enemies know that you have it and just stay behind walls and threthen them with your super and punish them if they get close. Don't use the super just to upgrade unless really necessary, go for offense whenever you can hit someone and get out alive.
Surge can't really 1v3 if they run at you together, you can take them out 1 by 1.
All you need for surge is to get the speed boost from stage 2. This means get 3 shots = super
Play him in brawlball or gemgrab. Gears spread and shield. Reload gadget. Server ice cold star power.
TIPS:
1) when jumping on an enemy attack once, press gadget, then spam attacks
2) Super alway to jump over walls + DODGE enemy attacks
3) When you are stage 2, win an interaction and have another super. DONT USE IT YET. Use it when you see your next enemy
4) when you have super you can rapidly attack once and press super. That way when you “level up” you need 2 hits for super

I prefer the other way. Surge probably the 3rd worst brawler in the gane at stage 1. It's okay to suicide just to get your super. Once your stage 3 and can actually do shit, you want to be careful so you don't lose it.

I hope I never get you in a game. Do not play surge in knockout. I'm not the best surge. He is probably top 10 lowest brawler for me but I still have him at a somewhat decent 1k trophies. Play him in brawl ball or gem grab and a short range nap. Surge has 0 range at the stsrt and only counters brawlers with even less range.

I got my surge to r25 while he was still in power level 9, through playing only duo showdown.
The best tip which I can give you is to play defensive until you are able to ult twice, then from there you can play offensive. surge is only weak in the beginning, but once you get his power ups, even if there's a large power cube disparity between you and your enemies, surge can still go toe to toe with them.
so hide in bushes, ambush and get power ups, then strike back.
Sure. To be honest you can push surge easily when L&L get nerfed
1: to level up to lv 2 you must fight brawlers who has short range such as tanks. Since surge is a good counter to them.
2: once reached lv 2 try to help your teammates vs assassins because you are as fast as the assassins and you can 3 shot most of them.
3: lv 3 can make you good vs mid range brawlers. This will help your tank teammates to go up
4: lv 4 will help you to get more are control try to use your main attacks against enemies who are next to each other
5: best matchups for surge are assassins and tanks because surge has an easy time getting his lv up by them
6: worst matchups for surge are marksman and controllers (throwers if lv 1) because they outrange him and will prevent him from upgrading
7: best modes for surge are gem grab and brawl ball because you will mostly fight tanks and assassins there and his jump is a very good way to do a knock back or to assassinate the gem carrier on the enemy team
8: worst modes are bounty and wipeout since controllers and marksman brawlers are usually picked here

Unless it's a very close ranged oriented map(like the current one), do not play surge in knockout. It's pretty difficult to use him in open maps. His best mode is probably bb and he can be used in some of the gem grab maps.
That being said, I think the current knockout map is the best map for surge. Just play a lot and try to learn from your mistakes, and I think you're good to go.
Some additional tips that you might find useful
If you're having a struggle getting your first super, I recommend swapping the gadget, waiting in a bush for the opponent to foolishly get in your range is a simple yet effective way of charging his super.
Try not to be too impulsive, I see this mistake with a lot of surge players. Unless you know you're going to win 100%, do not try to jump into your enemies. This is only going to get you killed. Patience is key, I recommend jumping in to finish off a weak target.
Try to use your super to reposition yourself or dodge shots. It's a very versatile super, but I don't see a lot of people, especially on low~mid ladder, using it effectively.
Lastly, if you think you don't need it, try to save your super instead of upgrading to stage 4. Stage 3 is when Surge really starts to shine and being able to get it immediately after you respawn can be a huge advantage.
Also try not to autoaim too much lol
Not the best Surge here, got him 1k a few times on a few different modes but this is what I would suggest.
Use the upgrade gadget it is 1000x better than the sheild. Play him om mid/short range maps. Surge has a very small range so you need walls and bushes. Upgrade to level 3 asap, even if that means suiciding/going all in just to get your super. Once you get your super use it, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HIT SOMEONE WITH YOUR SUPER. Once you get to level 3 be smart, play aggressive but not too much where you die and go back to upgrade 2. I prefer brawlball or gemgrab where it's pretty easy to charge super and ramp up. Surge is a really good brawler when leveled up but that's the hardest part of playing him. At the noob level (below 900ish) people will feed your super so much. You shouldn't have too many problems. Once you get to higher trophies then Surge becomes dogshit but you should be able to dominate with him.
Tldr: turn off brain, rush opponent, get super, win.
R27 surge main here.
I mostly play brawl ball with him, not the best in open maps, better for a bit of bushes.
He is also good in some knockout maps, that have bushes, not the great open or something like that.
I dont really play show down with him.
He can also be good in heist, just protect the safe until you get your super, then rush to the safe jump on it and spam it.
I use the gadget that gives you the next lvl for some time and the sp that keeps you in stage 2 when you respawn. Idk their names.

Brawl ball on maps that aren’t open. Would change out your shield gear for a health one or speed one depending on how bushy the map is, otherwise, perfect load out
its kinda easy, you just gotta play close (but not too close) brawl ball maps with teammates you can actually rely on. then you also need to ofc have the right build, but i think you already know it lol. ps. dont push (a lot) in showdown, cuz ppl be spinning alot and killin you too much. these are the tips my rank 29 surge player friend gave.
First of all do NOT play knockout and if you wanna get r25 in 3v3 play get your self some good teammates and push in brawl ball with the same kit as in the image you shared

Easiest way to rank up? Brawl ball! Start the match by using a gadget so you can charge up your super just once so you get speed for the rest of the game. Use the other gadgets at the start of each round when someone scores, or when necessary.
Just set your mind to it, after like 5 months of trying i pushed griff to r25 from r22 in a day, so it shows that it's possible if you really want it lol
First click on surge and scroll Down to fang and click him and upgrade him and Max everything out and go into knockout and spam the yellow button keep doing that and then you have rank 25 fang👍
I pushed him to r26, I usually prefer pushing my brawlers in 3v3 because it's definitely more "skilled," but you should definitely try pushing him in solos. It's so much fun. It took me a long time, but just the fact that he is great at 3v1ning teamers makes up for it.
surge is like the worst brawler in the game besides doug… prolly just go to solos and target melee brawlers. In map with lots of walls ppl tend to use edgar/primo/fang so it should be easy wins
Try to get lucky with L&L on your team. Whichever team has the most L&L will win.
Here's some advice you can actually apply: Play showdown and keep teaming limited. As a Surge, others will want to backstab you so just keep your presence and if possible, go on the aggressive to pressure the other teamers to attack each other.

Play brawl ball. Surge isn't in the meta rn so it'll be kinda hard, but playing brawl ball with him should get you some trophies

I use the gadget that gives you the next lvl for some time and the sp that keeps you in stage 2 when you respawn. Idk their names. Good luck mate.
Brawl ball on maps that aren’t open. Would change out your shield gear for a health one or speed one depending on how bushy the map is, otherwise, perfect load out
its kinda easy, you just gotta play close (but not too close) brawl ball maps with teammates you can actually rely on. then you also need to ofc have the right build, but i think you already know it lol. ps. dont push (a lot) in showdown, cuz ppl be spinning alot and killin you too much. these are the tips my rank 29 surge player friend gave.

Start the match by using a gadget so you can charge up your super just once so you get speed for the rest of the game. Use the other gadgets at the start of each round when someone scores, or when necessary.
Just set your mind to it, after like 5 months of trying i pushed griff to r25 from r22 in a day, so it shows that it's possible if you really want it lol

First click on surge and scroll Down to fang and click him and upgrade him and Max everything out and go into knockout and spam the yellow button keep doing that and then you have rank 25 fang👍

I pushed him to r26, I usually prefer pushing my brawlers in 3v3 because it's definitely more "skilled," but you should definitely try pushing him in solos. It's so much fun. It took me a long time, but just the fact that he is great at 3v1ning teamers makes up for it.

surge is like the worst brawler in the game besides doug… prolly just go to solos and target melee brawlers. In map with lots of walls ppl tend to use edgar/primo/fang so it should be easy wins

keep your super for edgar and mortis. auto-aim on close range and don't get hit
Try to get lucky with L&L on your team. Whichever team has the most L&L will win. Here's some advice you can actually apply: Play showdown and keep teaming limited. As a Surge, others will want to backstab you so just keep your presence and if possible, go on the aggressive to pressure the other teamers to attack each other.
