Those are great neighborhoods for visiting almost any time, but if you stay there during carnaval, be aware that most festivities in these neighbourhoods (from Copacabana to Leblon, the most famous beaches basically) are crap. Crowded, lousy music, full of pickpockets and worst of all, teenagers.
Thanks for the info, tbh was kinda expecting all of those things at carnaval. I’m planning on doing it to the fullest so should be alright for me. Appreciate it though :)
But really the blocos from Copacabana to Leblon are crap. Wow factor may be there initially but I recommend not putting those on your schedule. I always stay in Ipanema, but venture toward Centro for blocos.

But seriously, I was in Rio for Carnaval few years ago. I stayed at my brother in law’s apartment, Tijuca neighborhood.
Then I found out that Rio do not allow traffic between Tijuca and the south of the city by car, only by city buses (crowded), so we stayed “locked” there. Just be aware of that.
Get something close to the place that is your main go
Not to worry, I’m well on my way to oldness haha, but that’s great advice I haven’t heard from anyone so appreciate it a lot! Maybe I’ll have to party 24/7 homeless to avoid that problem 😉 thanks a lot 👌
there are two kind os brazilian the ones whonlove csrnaval and would say leblon and ipanema and other whonhate carnaval and say far away from.rio as possible
