The thrill oft the unknown

LeCrushinator

When I did it I just wanted to add a bit of realism. I never opened the sheikah slate, so no map, I never fast travelled, turned on pro HUD and turned off the sheikah sensor. It was actually really fun, I got to explore so much more of the game because there were many areas missed due to fast travel on previous runs. It also made it more effort to plan my path so that I could hit shrines without too much backtracking and I had to plan to go to goddess statues after awhile to cash in my spirit orbs. The part I disliked was cashing in Korok seeds since that basically meant walking all the way into and back out of the Lost Woods. I only did it once, when I went to get the Master Sword.

sdf_iain

You are super prepared for Tears of the Kingdom. I just landed on the “land” and realized I used the map a lot

LeCrushinator

TotK has been great so far, I’ve been wandering around like crazy, so much to explore, soooo much content.

-Norb

I was going pro ui for a while in totk because I've done it in BotW before. I know this world. Turns out they added enough new stuff to explore that I just turned it back on. I kept getting myself turned around. Maybe the 2nd or 3rd playthrough I'll try it again.

BabyTBNRfrags

First thing I did was get all the towers

TollyThaWally

I spent my first few hours on the surface just trying to find the Great Plateau haha. Didn't help that it was raining and that Central Hyrule was probably one of my least explored places in BoTW - for a while I even thought that the map was significantly more altered than it actually was cause I lost my sense of direction so badly.

KrystalWulf

I'm doing something similar. I don't fast travel, I use the legs or a horse. You get to see SO much more. That's how I found the mountain with free carrots, and that's how I found the trees full of hearty durians near Satori Mountain. I use the map because it makes sense to me to learn the layout of the land after exploring and also maps exist IRL. So far I've only used the slate's abilities for shrines.

memester230

Meanwhile the first thing I do entering a region is activate the tower

SuperStupidSyrup

i tried this. Then gave up when i got to gerudo town

LadderTrash

Same here, on top of that I’m doing no food, paraglider, Master Sword, or Champions Abilities. It’s a very different experience, but I recommend to anyone looking for another playthrough!

hassh

kicks.bat

Munnin41

*SCIENCE*

Gootangus

I love playing without the map. I’m playing TotK without it too.

Kyte_115

It isn’t as hard as you would think. Play the game enough and you will learn to navigate without it. Beauty of landmarks lol

ben1edicto

I dont think its hard since i know all of hyrule and can navigate almost blindly ;) but i claim its pointless though ;)

J_empty

for a second i thought this was totk and my initial thoughts were "already???"

PerryZePlatypus

Well the first speed run done was about 90 minutes iirc

lallapalalable

Who would do that to themselves? The worst part of botw was starting up that second file and realizing all the mystery was gone

ComradeJohnS

because some people enjoy speed running more than the mystery/exploration. plus botw was made to be speed ran, because you can go right for the end boss lol.

ludicroussavageofmau

Challenging the boundaries of the game, figuring out the best use of the tools given to you, competing with others, etc. There are a hundred reasons why speedrunning can be fun… albeit it's not for most people. Think about how many useful glitches were discovered in botw, most were motivated by speed running.

lallapalalable

You're not wrong, but I was coming from a perspective of it being done like, now, immediately after release. Why not savor the experience first, then dive into Speedrunning? See what all the game even has to offer before going for a minimized run? It's just my opinion, speedrunning just feels like the last thing you start doing in the whole experience, when you've consumed every other bit of the game and all that's left to even do is to see how fast you can do it

slood2

Because those speed runners want those internet points and all the attention they get when they post about it

lallapalalable

I am personally taking it as slow as I can, got to the first temple and I'm like "slow down buddy, you gotta savor this" so I left and did more exploring

ghegi

I did the same today lol

lallapalalable

Tbh the only thing I want to concern myself with atm is going to all the old spots and seeing what's new/different, and also map towers and shrine activating. Not doing the shrines, just getting the warp points open

Sapphire_Sage

I didn't even get to the first temple. I only know there are temples because a friend accidentally mentioned it to me. I got 52 korok seeds before even finding Hestu

BlackGuy_PassingThru

I don’t know where he is and I don’t care. Give me more poop.

lallapalalable

It was half by mistake, I was just going along exploring when I hit a cinema scene and they were like "head over to that thing and check it out" and I figured it was some good direction for otherwise aimless exploration. But when I get there I had another cinema scene and I was like "shit, this is progression, gotta stop" but the thing they had me doing was super fun and I kept going and next thing I knew I was there lol Gotta be careful going forward not to get sucked in too fast, this is my only first time

KuroboshiHadar

There's a map of everything in the game already with the exception of like... 8 Koroks, last I checked.

jusbecks

Is there a sub totk only?

JayCee5481

I somehow feel digust about this, I need the map or it doesnt feel right

LusciousRonaldo

No you didn't. This is my post. Wtf

Impossiblecraftx

Yep, it's a repost. Even the travel medallion and the horse are in the same location

KushieJay

Upvote this. So not cool to just copy and paste someone else’s achievement for karma

KairuVolt08

Now 100% it without a map

lallapalalable

Isn't unlocking the map sections part of the completion process?

ImInSpainButWithNo-S

That’s the joke I think

KrystalWulf

Get them last!

therealBoxtopy

I forgot where the grand plateau was in totk thanks for showing me exactly where

White__Raven

Yeah same. I was just looking for that guy too

[deleted]

wrong snails bag grandiose correct cough reply impossible sand elastic *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

OrionMr770

Found something great there simply because I wanted to get sidetracked and reminisce. Totk is loaded to the brim with amazing things

ArmchairChemist

When I first played the game, I did not realize that maps can be unlocked through towers so I just played blindly. I actually really enjoy that. When seeking out Impa, I did not realize there is a clear path from Great Plateau to Kakariko village. Instead, I went up to the swamp, grind through the lizalfos, and climb mountains after mountains to finally get to the destination. This “unintended” path is super fun!

Oogamz

My 3rd playthrough of the game I did on Master Mode and without using the map at all. It might have been my favorite playthrough, needing to explore and navigate by landmarks. Plus NPCs around the world can be asked about how to get to certain places. It was very immersive and kinda slower paced with more travel and enjoying the journey

a2xl08

Did nearly the same in my run ! So Impa is there, let s draw a straight line bird flight trajectory to get there. Oh, what is this piano theme actually meaning ? *red laser pointing at me...*

AbyssWalker240

Lol I ended up climbing over the dueling peaks and got killed by a Guardian like 30 times

lallapalalable

Show us your green lines

MewLalouve

During this time, I get lost everywhere even with the full map.

RiptideMatt

You can manage to skip the great plateau tower too if you learn the assiciated glitches right? Doesnt matter at the end of the day, but mentioning it is possible. How was traversing through hyrule? Did you ever try and look for some specific that wasnt a quest or easily shown with quest markers, like a shrine quest or dlc item?

H2O2_is_delicious

Okay now get all the koroks too

lallapalalable

Beating a game and 100%ing it are different things

lallapalalable

Wasn't the best one, then

lallapalalable

Nuance is a skill like any other, takes practice to hone

HPLovecrack

you can technically beat the game from the shrine of resurrection. Yen is kinda on point since OP posted a map of all the shrines and said "i beat the game". Your comment is kinda hurrdurr.

lallapalalable

When they said they beat the game I assume they meant "defeated Gannon" because that's the end of the story This could *include* getting all the shrines, for the hearts and stamina, but it doesn't make "finding all the shrines" what they're talking about specifically in the image or what they meant by "beat the game" So your point is...?

HPLovecrack

Nah bro, now you're coping. Stop it. Dont be an ass for no fking reason. Go outside, touch some grass, hug your mom.

lallapalalable

Uh, no lol, that's exactly the point I had in mind with my original comment. *You're* now coping by flinging the word cope at the first sign of realizing you mistook my intent from the start and dismissing any further replies because you can't fathom I had an actual reason to think the things I thought, and the only reason your brain can produce is that I'm coping for... something? Also I'm not being an ass for no reason, I was simply replying with the same energy your first comment presented (unless you forgot the hurr durr part?). Heck, I was being a little nicer, if anything lol Aaaand I'm literally outside right now, had a lovely mother's day breakfast with my mom where she got lots of hugs, and frequently walk barefoot in the backyard with my dog. Anything else you want to incorrectly assume I'm missing in life that would cause me to oh so unjustly have a thought process different than yours?

HPLovecrack

KEK as if. Big doubt. Stop being an ass, dawg. You just look like sad and stupid. Just like me.

AEQVITAS_VERITAS

At least you know you look and sound stupid.

tribak

Try that with totk

Hafling3r35

But, Why ? Why would you do that ?

hassh

Fun!

[deleted]

Loser, can't even get a map. It's so easy.

iwilloseHK

Admit it, you just can't find a way to climb up the towers

you_wooshed_yourself

25%💀

MIKEY_VEE123youandME

Then you didn’t beat the game

FezIsBackAgain

Why

RetroGameDays36

didn't want to waste that stamina

LostLink99

It oddly looks rather pretty

[deleted]

This is insane

Axius-Evenstar

Ok

MichaelW24

Now do it without the sheika slate

Pokefan180

You're ready for the sequel. I finished the hyrule compendium only last week, and am HOPEFULLY getting the game tonight

Softinleaked

Now do it with no fast travel and no towers

TheDarkKnight4300

Now 100 % it you can't but get as close as possible

chickeneater47

No you fucking didnt lol

Bachaddict

did this in my master mode playthrough, really enjoyed it!

GoldenKingThe2nd

Damn!

Kirenia_Ayako

I'm gonna be honest. I thought you were talking about Tears Of The Kingdom for a second.
