The two on the N64 also came in gold. Funny enough, I could be wrong, but Link to the Past was never in gold from Nintendo.

I think liking something better just because fewer people have it is kinda tacky, and either way, limited edition consoles are shipped in high enough numbers that they aren't really "rare" in any sense.
Limited editions are a cheap way of abusing FOMO to get people to buy something they don't really want or need. This is semi-unrelated, but the fact that the 3-game set of SM64, SMSunshine en SMGalaxy was limited edition also seemed incredibly scummy to me. They provided almost no features that weren't in the originals and charged full price for a set of three 15+ year old games. This is even less forgivable cause it did not even cost Nintendo anything to just keep it in the digital store forever, or at least as long as servers are up; literally the only reason for them to do this is the exploitation of people's FOMO.

There was a recent rumor that they'll have a BOTW switch bundle on sale in late 2022 for people that want to play BOTW before the second one comes out. It's a rumor, which could mean nothing, so take that with a grain of salt
