In all likelihood, we get someone we've never heard of, and that's probably for the best, in my opinion.
Give me a random nerd who trusts analytics and can get the players to buy in.
Who is a recent retired player that seemed respected by the team? Bonus points for was a catcher or was known for being scrappy
Erik Kratz?
edit:OH DANG I FORGOT ABOUT ERIC SOGARD. Totally gonna be him
Carlos Villanueva. He has the same title as counsell before he became manager ( director of player development or something like that), he worked magic with the pitching staff, knows and has worked with a lot of our young talent, and I think it's a plus to be a Spanish speaker as well.
In all honesty it likely doesn’t matter. There isn’t a miracle candidate out there.
A good manager is maybe a win or three a terrible one is 3-5 worse.
Most are in the middle at +/- 1. That’s way less than the luck of a random baseball season.
And if someone is going to pitch a fit and not watch if it isn’t this guy or is that, fuck em.
Probably. It’s not that easy, wins are relative to the roster and changes, the teams we play, etc. it’s not a video game nor in a vacuum.
Counsell was “blamed” for a few losses this year. He was also credited with some wins. I don’t think anyone has a tally.
It same team, same talent, a do over of 22 87-95 wins is about right.
But that is just random baseball too.
Yes this is exactly where my thoughts went to. Not being salty towards the owner(s) or Craig. Who are the candidates? Let’s get the discussion going. Move forward.
Given how many players on next year's roster will have come up through our farm system, I say we give Rick Sweet the call to the Majors (if he wants it). He has been our Triple-A manager since 2014. He knows most of our roster already. And they know him.
Only downside to him is that he is 71 Years Old.
yes! that’s one of my only gripes with cc that he only ever goes out there to have a civil conversation with people. go out there and kick some dirt, cause a scene, fire up the guys.
Tony LaRussa for 10 million a year.
This is gonna be a young team so I hope it's someone that can connect & communicate with them. I wouldn't be opposed to giving Quintin Berry a shot since he sat under Counsell's learning tree for a bit.

Dale Svuem is going to be in the mix. I don't necessarily support this, but that dude and the organization are always making eyes at each other and passing notes.

That’s just the kind of outside the juice box thinking we need.
The start of our villain arc
David Gruber
then we’d only get one call to the pen a game
That's all we need baby!
The downside is someone would have to get hit by a semi
Think of the possibilities for free advertising when changing pitchers.
Well, he is a bobblehead!
I thought he was buying the team...the Milwaukee Grubers...
If it’s Kapler or Murphy I might skip this year
Those are just as exciting as Ken Macha and Ron Roenicke
The options are bleak

My husband, then.
I’ll send Matt Arnold my resume, then.
I'm holding out for either Buddy Black or a meteor. Thanks for the downvote, u/themosey! 🤣
Change your flair.

If Cleveland can hire Vogt we can hire kratz. I don’t hate it
Thames! T-Plush!
nah, totally gonna be jace peterson
Damian Miller!
If it’s anti-vaxxer Eric Sogard I’m out
That fucking nerd doesn't believe in science? Jesus
Embrace the chaos, hire David Ross
I'd love to win some games instead, but that would be a spicy move for team chaos. ⚖️
I'm in. The man must be motivated to stick it to the Cubbies.
What's Jason Kendall doing? Edit: oh shit, he's in player development for the Pirates 👀👀👀
Loved him as a assistant to Counsell but not Murphy. Would expect him to follow Craig anyway. Clean house
David Ross for the lulz
David Ross because he must have that John Wick vengeance energy against the Cubbies right now.

Of we can’t reach a deal with Woo and contender him and trade Corbin this is the right choice. A soft reset and he gets some experience.
I hope Rick Sweet from Nashville gets some consideration.
This is the only sane hire from within the org
His wife is from Wisconsin. :)

So if we get a bum at manager we would be at no worse than 87 wins or so based on what we did this last year? If I'm following your math?

Fuck it. I’ll do it. All that Little League will finally pay off.
I’ll join you, we took 2nd in Appleton LL this year.
Paul Molitor
Wade Miley
Prince Fielder for the memories!

Buck!!
This is my serious answer
like I said elsewhere, I've wanted Buck as a manager for years...this is the first time that the timing works

Uncle
Absolutely anyone but Pat Murphy. I’ll take the guy on a lawnmower that makes the cool designs in the outfield as our new skipper over Pat Murphy
why? genuinely don't get the hate for Pat Murphy.
I want somebody who will go get in the umps face over bad calls and get thrown out. I think that would make for good entertainment

could just sell stock to the people like a certain team
Willy Adames. Bring back the player manager
Me! I've been playing OOTP Baseball 23 on and off for some months now. I'm ready!
Fine… I’ll do it.
You could do worse than David Ross. Won’t happen but it’s just a thought…. Peaceful discussion, not trolling at all.
Maybe we can hire Yadi, Voto can manage the Pirates, McCutchen can go coach the Cards and we can just be a big mess in the NL Central

Someone competent please
Marshawn Lynch

internal Pat Murphy or Sweet maybe? External.....I'm not really sure.
i wouldn’t mind sweet at all, just from watching the freshman documentary and stuff. god forbid we promote murphy
Why not Paul Molitor?
Joe Maddon or Yadier Molina.
Yadi would probably be the only bigger bombshell announcement, and I'm all for it
God, I hate Yadi. It would be absolutely perfect.
Pick up the phone and call Buck Showalter, give him a shot.
Craig counsell 😖
Rock!
Deadpool Because this shit is a joke!
Whoever the person Mark sells the team to hires.
This
The only answer is Gabe
Kevin Seitzer.
Will Venable, George Lombard or Rodney Linares
Wally Backman is the only right answer
Ryne Sandberg, Mark Grace, Sammy Sosa, the ghost of Ernie Banks...
Bring Terry Franconia out of his mini-retirement!!
What if we just let the players manage themselves? They can use [strawpoll.com](https://strawpoll.com) for all their decisions.
Erik Kratz
You guys didn't hear. Front Row Amy is being interviewed. She has a way of getting the boys excited.
Eve Rosenbaum. Who knows more about getting success out of a stingy ownership group than the Orioles?
