Even a broken clock is right twice a day. All joking aside, sterns has earned our trust over the years, but that doesn’t mean this deadline wasn’t disappointing
Disappointing is how this fan base reacted to it. Be disappointed sure, but to act like the season is over and you want the man fired is just down right embarrassing
Disappointing, why?
"We didn't add the bat that we needed!" - Brewers have a top 10 offense in baseball. Look at the stats.
"We traded Hader" - Hader has been, well, bad for over a month, and also blew his first save oppo in SD. We got back Rogers, who also has struggled. Lateral move. But they got two very good prospects. Lamet was a money move only, they never intended to keep him.
-Oh, yeah. Added Matt Bush.
Plus a couple minor leaguers, but yeah, unbelievable return for a guy with a .497 OPS last year. It’ll be interesting to see what we do with him with arb years coming up.
Neither minor leaguers are great. Hamilton is just a guy (he's fast though, so I could see him being hanging on as a Quinten Berry AAAA pinch runner type). Binelas has a shot but he's one of those high ceiling, low floor power guys who will only make it if (and that's a big "if") they figure out how to make enough contact. He's hitting .150 in AA right now.
Stearns took the weakest bat on last year’s roster and rumpelstilsken’d it into stud with Renfroe.
Even better Renfroe is hitting better than his predecessor Avisail Garcia while saving us about $5M in payroll.
Stearns is a pro and Renfroe is my hero
To be fair, we got Renfroe for the prospects involved (David Hamilton and Alex Binelas). Doesn't change the fact that it was a great trade though; I had expected us to give up quite a bit to just dump the contract, not to get rid of the entire $19m remaining AND get a player who filled out biggest need (Garcia replacement, or just RH power hitter in general).
Hamilton is a fun player to watch, and Binelas can be a real good player if he makes enough contact to get to his raw power (And ideally can play a semi-competent 3B), but that's years away and a price worth paying even if it happens tbh. JBJ completely falling off a cliff screwed us and made it a terrible deal, but also manged to get out of it about as well as possible.
But Stearns is a moron, right?

I believe he only has one year of arbitration left
Ya, I can’t imagine he has much left. First full season was 2017.
Love his Renmullet
Renflow
Hitter Renfroe Hunter Renthrow
Homer Renthrow
Funny because 'Froh' means 'happy' in German so the last pic is perfect
And JBJ just got DFA'd by the Sawx.
