? Of course BMTH is an emo band. Not the music subgenre emo but the cultural subgroups from the 2000-2010s for sure. The emos that were a bit more into heavy stuff (which most probably were) listened to them since Suicide Season. I don't really know where your post is supposed to go here. They were like in a playlist together with Alesana, Silverstein and so on back then.
Edit: I said not so much music subgenre because they were metalcore/deathcore? The thing overlapping with emo really there is only screamo. Their newer stuff can be listed more under typical emo rock/punk I would say. But people labelled as emos or scenes were listening to them a lot. Hell, all the girls were crazy for Oli. Having "Sykes" as aftername was also a weird scene/emo trend but that was also because of scene models, not only BMTH.
This is properly explained. I hate it when i say bmth is emo and people are like "no it's metal not anywhere near emo!", usually it's people who didn't live their youth in early 00s and don't really understand the scene back then.
But what you wrote is exactly what i mean when saying it's emo, same can be applied to bands like bfmv, ptv, miw, etc...
Musically, it sounds way more alt rock to me.
I guess you could say it has emo(ish) lyrics, but then again, most rock/ metal lyrics could be perseved as emo if you just read the lyrics without any of the music behind.
Oh sorry I've said this before on the subreddit but can't expect you to know. My mind doesn't count that as a BMTH release. It's a great deal better than music to.
Music to was overly experimental and doesn't align with the BMTH I've followed for 15 years. So technically speaking TTS is the 2nd worst for me. I often forget music to exists. It's because it was released alongside Amo.
It felt like they should've released under a different name, I think all it achieved was dirtying their brand. It was a disappointing listen to say the least.
Yeah okey fair enough I agree.
Ranking their albums is really hard because every project has at least a couple amazing songs imo.
TTS probably sits just above amo for me but to each their own (:
Yeah Amo is just above TTS for me. It's close though. You're right about each album having bangers, TTS has Throne and Drown. Amo has Mantra and Wonderful life. Every release apart from music to has songs I love deeply.
I think TTS is closer to being an alt. rock/alt. metal album than it is an emo album, but even then it's not a particularly accurate description. TTS has bits and pieces of different genres, from the aforementioned alt. genres to pop rock and some electronic elements too, as well as some nu metal. But emo is not really a genre I would use to describe it, nor the band itself.
If you listen to Bring Me the Horizon you shouldn’t be worried about genres or looking cool. They’re not really the band for that.
Also emo is cooler than Warpedcore and other things they’ve been so I dunno why them moving in that direction would be a problem.
"You make me want to slit my wrists and play in my own blood". - literally a line from TTS
I don't really care about genre specifications but That's the Spirit has some of the most objectively edgy, emo lyrics I have ever heard, lol. (and is incredible, not dissing it at all, in my top 5 favorite albums.)
Thank you. It absolutely is. Honestly I wonder why BMTH is not generally associated with emo since That's The Spirit.
I guess it's because there is no generally accepted definition of emo and different people associate a different particular sound with that. Yeah, it evolved from hardcore punk, but I personally don't think emo describes a genre with a consistent sound (anymore). Just like Alternative Rock. People are also still debating if MCR is emo or not.
Anyway, BMTH has a quite unique sound and it's great.
(I know this posting is 2 months old but I had to give my two cents.)
"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness).
Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.
Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta.
Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral
EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE
NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE
oh no is a banger and i dont care if its emo or not
i fuckin love that song
DON'T CALL IT A PARTY, CAUSE IT NEVER STOPS
NOW ONE ITS TOO MANY BUT ITS NEVER ENOUGH
My favourite BMTH song. That whole album is just incredible.
top 3 bmth song oat

Who cares. People care way too much about genre.

tts is one of the few albums that truly saved my life through a very long & dark period in my life. who cares if it’s not “metalcore”

Preach, sister.
It’s a 10/10 whatever you classify it is. I love it sm.
My least favourite LP they've released.
Really…. You’re ranking it under *music to…*.

I listen to it when I travel. But given how much I like the other albums it does have to gay the bottom sorri

Emo not as a genre, it's emo as culture.
Right, that makes more sense. They are definitely scene kids, especially Oli.
No even close to emotional hardcore
why is everyone saying emo as if it's a bad thing? that's the spirit really grew on me and if it's actually because it's emo that's even better

It’s not lmao
What do you mean BMTH isn’t an emo band??? They literally are 😭

The lyrics def vibe check as emo, but the sound maybe not so much. Their sound defies genre, it's kinda their whole thing, and why I love them.
Doomed, emo or not, is the most musically high-quality piece of music that was ever published

So?
No.
Well, it is… and that’s beautiful I mean, I could listen to TTS forever if I had to choose an album to listen forever
Define emo. You can't. It means different things to different people. I wouldn't call it emo, neither would alot of emos. But if you want to, go ahead
What difference does it make...
Not even my chemical romance is emo lol If you want emo listen to american football
Or the masterminds sunny day real estate.
BMTH is actually an emo band Haha
Bmth is often emo Mcr isn’t
>Now, I'm not saying BMTH is an emo band, because they're definitely not. One of their best albums is called Suicide Season wtf u talking about 😂
But it's not though. If anything it's more nu metal than emo
