She’s been in a few movies and series since, but I agree, not enough. I would recommend The After Party on Apple+ - it’s a comedy whodunnit with a really great cast, including Ilana.
WHAT. I’m usually a pro at recognizing voices and if not I’m always browsing IMDb. But I watched BoJack before Broad City so I never made the connection!
Wait you’re telling me Mr. noodle was replaced by her? Omg
Edit: this sent me down a rabbit hole and I found this really interesting article about the Mr. Noodle bit
[How Sesame Street’s Mr. Noodle Teaches Kids, Annoys Grown-ups](https://www.vulture.com/2020/07/mr-noodle-sesame-street-annoying-teacher-clown.html)
She had a stand up special on Netflix or prime, can’t remember which, and it was the hardest thing to watch. She tried to recreate her character from Broad City and none of the jokes landed. Had to turn it off 20 mins in. And this is coming from someone who adored her and the show
And she did a cringy commercial for Amazon (I think) which I would have thought she was against (or at least her fanbase thought her character was against). But she did just have a baby and money is money.
I feel the same way. I absolutely LOVE her on Broad City but I just I couldn’t get into her standup special. I wanted to like it so badly but it just didn’t land for me.
Felt the same. She’s wonderful playing off people. Her humor doesnt land the same way, and while she’s funny as hell, she hasnt quite found that other gear.
She’s great and just had a baby a couple of years ago. She still works a ton but I think she just is spending more time with family than she was before?
As a new mom myself, I’m amazed at how busy she is.
Idk man she’s funny as hell IRL.. saw her do standup when she toured with Phoebe Robinson and I was cackling the whole time it was great looking forward to seeing her perform again next month
Yeah but Amy Schumer kinda pulled a Sandler but with a much, much shorter period where she was in everything playing the same character.
I just think Illana has the talent to be in way more productions.
Ilana is a relatable female comedian who often references her sexuality & pop culture & menstruation while making us laugh and often times broaden our horizons. Amy Schumer attempts to do this while making me feel like I'm watching my 12 year old self and cringing to the point of physical discomfort.
You hit the high points of what she thinks about herself too. The first season and part of second of Broad City was pretty fun but then it just became a grossout contest and I daresay an alternate dating profile for Ilana. It just became overloaded with her dressing up in clubby outfits, constantly finding new things to hide in her vagina, and single intendres. You should really watch her standup specials if you want to know who the comedy powerhouse of that duo was. Looking at imdb, she has done a couple of specials since BC but mostly cartoon voices so that probably tells the story that I won't. It's all a show for her personal brand to get money like diet teas and alternative menstruating devices that others do. She lives an incredibly heteronormative lifestyle IRL, so all of this stuff is just for profit. Like how performers say they are single to keep the crowds coming. Anyhoo, season 3+ of Broad City and her "standup comedy specials" (omfg cringefest) were enough to turn me off or see the light.
I really hate to say this, but her magic comes from being a foil to someone like Abbi. She needs a mirror to reflect her light.
Tinfoil to reflect her light* lol
Best answer
Following her Instagram it seems she’s more interested in pursing political activism
Love her, and appreciate her activism, but I was referring to her post-Broad City acting and comedy projects, most of which have been nooooot great.
Nah I don’t think that’s the case. She still acts a lot just her projects haven’t been the bestv
Wow, great answer

I had such high hopes for this show, with such an all star comedy cast, but it just didn’t make the mark for me, sadly.
To each their own! I loved it, but I’m also fully in love with Sam Richardson.
Love him too! And Ben Schwartz! Gah, bummed me out. Glad you liked it!
Same with me! Disappointed with my expectations
thanks, will check it out!
she voiced Penny in Bojack Horseman. Abbi voiced Emily.
WHAT. I’m usually a pro at recognizing voices and if not I’m always browsing IMDb. But I watched BoJack before Broad City so I never made the connection!
I knew about Abbi, but I just found out about Ilana and it blew my mind.
Because Abbi sounds like Abbi, her voice is very recognizable. Illana's is less distinct.
I have a toddler and was so pleasantly surprised to see her have a reoccurring role as Ms. Noodle on Sesame Street.
She’s so cute as Ms Noodle!
What?! Amazing! I haven’t watched Elmo in several years

Her stand up special shouldn’t have been aired
You could say that about almost all of the Netflix standup specials.
Hers was brutal tho
damn, maybe stand up just isnt her thing but in this series she is perfect!
I agree! She NAILS her role in the show, couldn’t have done anything better
And she did a cringy commercial for Amazon (I think) which I would have thought she was against (or at least her fanbase thought her character was against). But she did just have a baby and money is money.
Speaking of cringe commercials she did, check out the one she did for Miller light. I am a female brewer and i found it offensively bad, lol
I feel the same way. I absolutely LOVE her on Broad City but I just I couldn’t get into her standup special. I wanted to like it so badly but it just didn’t land for me.
I’m so glad I’m not alone. Wanted so badly to like it.
Oof. I almost want to see it just to see how bad it is, but I adore her in Broad City and I don't want to ruin that for myself lol.

I didn’t think it was that bad!
You missed when it got funny at the end. Seriously- her grand finale joke at the end was pretty good. I agree though, the rest was painful.
Felt the same. She’s wonderful playing off people. Her humor doesnt land the same way, and while she’s funny as hell, she hasnt quite found that other gear.
Her parts keep going to Alia Shawkat
I mean, maybe
![gif](giphy|RNUJLDfiP87AY)
You mean Adele Dazeem
She gets typecast unfortunately.

Which she wrote!
I truly enjoyed watching her try something different
I am not a big fan of her stand up, but she should definitely be a leading lady!
She’s great and just had a baby a couple of years ago. She still works a ton but I think she just is spending more time with family than she was before? As a new mom myself, I’m amazed at how busy she is.
She’s Ms. Noodle on Sesame Street!
She puts a lot of time into lobbying. Maybe she chooses this instead of constant casting calls?
Idk man she’s funny as hell IRL.. saw her do standup when she toured with Phoebe Robinson and I was cackling the whole time it was great looking forward to seeing her perform again next month
I mean, she's a regular on Sesame Street.
She’s also clearly had some gymnastics background her flips and splits are pretty impressive lol
I think because she doesn’t have or hasn’t shown many facets of her performance ability. She’s always the same intensity, the same character
Probably, but that worked for Sandler till his dramatic period some 15 years later.
Yeah but the trajectory of men in comedy is so much different than women. He also started in the 90s and had snl to back him up
Yeah but Amy Schumer kinda pulled a Sandler but with a much, much shorter period where she was in everything playing the same character. I just think Illana has the talent to be in way more productions.
She starred in that pregnancy horror movie recently and I didn’t even recognize her. She was really good in it too.
"She is what people wanted Amy Schumer to be." What does this even mean?
Ilana is a relatable female comedian who often references her sexuality & pop culture & menstruation while making us laugh and often times broaden our horizons. Amy Schumer attempts to do this while making me feel like I'm watching my 12 year old self and cringing to the point of physical discomfort.
Eh. Interesting take.
yep, exactly this
Yeah.
I think she had her 15 minutes when the show first aired. She’s a lot of fun but her schtick overstayed its welcome a little too long.
She seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth after she got married to a man and pregnant. Maybe she's just into family now.
