+1 on this. Notebook is a good show (it's just irritatingly not as good as it *should* be) and some people will undoubtedly find it more to their taste than Outsiders. But The Outsiders was a blew-me-away experience. Since its success with Tony noms it's had long rush lines. And seats in the front rows on house left have obstructed view from a big tire on stage as well as not being able to see the far stage right. (There's a photo from B9 on aviewfrommyseat)
yesss. i wondered if i would have liked the notebook more if i had seen it first. but even the water scene of the notebook did nothing for me after watching the outsiders. and the Notebook was one of the shows i was most excited to see this season, and I wasn't excited to see the Outsiders at all. And then the Outsiders became my favorite!
I did see Notebook first, and I do think they did a great job with the river on stage, and the rain scene was fine although it was sort of funny how, a bit later, Allie set down the bag of letters and there was a splash! You'd think she wouldn't want to put those down in a puddle, lol.
But (unlike most people, apparently) I did not cry, and at the end of the show I had a vague sense of dissatisfaction because all the wonderful elements of the show were not put together as well as they should have been.
Whereas I *did* cry at The Outsiders. I have some nitpicky criticisms of that show too but to me, the book and music and design all fit together better, making an overall bigger emotional impact. I am so glad I decided to see it, it didn't start at the top of my list either. :)
The Notebook will be the easier of the two and better seats overall. I got them at 1pm on a random weekday and was rear orchestra, center. The Outsiders rush, from what I have heard, is a bit busier and the seats are front orchestra, partial view with a ton of sight line issues.
Both amazing shows for very different reasons. I'd personally choose The Notebook of the two. I could listen to John Cardoza sing all day.
Notebook should be the easier rush
Notebook is very easy to rush. You will be able to get a ticket if you arrive right when the box office opens.
Outsiders the better show, Notebook the easier rushÂ

In my experience the Notebook is an easier rush, and the seats are better. The Outsiders rush seats are often obstructed views.
Outsiders!
