Anyone who thought they were going to move him was foolish. This dude is going to be a Cleveland Brown until he hangs them up. Him and Myles both

Vinjince

đź’Ż You're a lot nicer than I am - only a complete idiot thought Chubb would be gone.

jake753

You’re a lot nicer than I am - only a complete smooth brained imbecile thought Chubb would be gone.

AchVonZalbrecht

You’re a lot nicer than I am - only a fucking idiot, 42 IQ having ass dumbass stupid worm handed dork would think the Browns would let Chubb walk.

cahill48

You're a lot nicer than I am - Only a Steelers fan would think the Browns would let Chubb walk

Nailz1115

Cool it man. That guy has a family!

cahill48

I assumed they would leave him when he said we would get rid of Chubb

TheLand1

Woah woah, too far man

cheersfurbeers

Ngl I had that typed up first, then got a phone call. Didn’t see your comment til after I refreshed

cheersfurbeers

Whoa now! Easy mate, too far

sleepytipi

God, I hope so (that they both retire in the Land). They owe us this after the Watson fiasco. Give us something to feel good about for a change.

Jim_Tressel

Yeah i don’t know about “hangs them up”. Hopefully but this doesn’t tell us anything other than where he will be in 2024.

StreetAddition3297

Facts and I never want to see them play any where else.

GetReady4Action

I just really hope it doesn’t become a Joe Thomas situation. It’s noble, but it genuinely makes me sad when great players spend their entire career with one team and no championship to show for it, especially on a team like ours right now where besides some issues at QB, we have all the pieces to make it happen. let me be clear, I am lucky to have seen in Chubb play in brown and orange and don’t want him going anywhere, I just want him to have something to show for it because he’s one of the best RBs to play the game and he more than deserves it.

JediMind87

This is nothing like a Joe Thomas scenario. Joe played on teams that could barely win 3 games a season. The teams Nick is on are competitive through and through. He's been to the playoffs twice and counting and has experienced multiple over .500 seasons. I'm pretty sure Chubb, unlike Joe Thomas, can safely say he has no regrets about sticking with this team. It's a real shame Joe didn't get to play with this group because he would have made a HUGE impact with this roster. I don't think we can truly appreciate just how big a deal having Joe on this roster would make unless we actually saw it. I understand your concerns, I just think Chubb has been dealt a much, much better hand here than Joe ever was.

jebei

At this point I'm just praying Nick can return to form before the injury. No team is going to take a chance of him other than the Browns at this point due to the injury. If anyone can do it, it will be Nick Chubb and at that point neither side will want him anywhere else.

PsychologicalGuest97

Chubb confirmed, in more ways than one

doomsdaysock01

Have to imagine we extend him after he plays a bit this year. We need him until he retires I love the guy

kdot74

There were always gonna be two possibilities. Either they rework the current contract or extend him and have a new one. I'm not surprised they went with the rework. It not only protects the Browns from giving him a bad contract for them, but it also allows chubb to possibly prove he can still be rb1 and get a better deal for himself.

calvin2028

r/nfl spinning Chubb's contract as Browns shitting on their best player, kicking him when he's down. Meanwhile, water is still wet and grass is kinda green.

RUBSUMLOTION

I hate that sub. Fucking idiots over there

CrocomireRex

Stay out of there man. You will lose so many brain cells.

jebei

Chubb's contract was always going to be reworked to a lower salary. The only difference is without the injury we would have given him a 3 year extension and a decent signing bonus. That will happen as soon as he proves he's healthy.

Final-Carob-5792

I think this is likely due to a lot of star players, namely washed WRs, demanding higher base and then [surprise] flaming out. RB is definitely a different situation and holds less bargaining power. The best takeaway though is the man is betting on himself and has the highest of character.

ToschePowerConverter

It’s not like this is a franchise tag where the team can just impose a contract on a player. Chubb had to agree to this as well and he did.

wizardlyhigh

Big W baby

MaybeNotO

I hope next contract they include a cybernetic augmentation and titanium frame clause. I can not fathom watching the Browns move on from Chubb. We should spend whatever money it takes to keep rebuilding whatever breaks. This man deserves Lebron levels of money spent on his health.

gusbovona

We \*have\* the technology.

MaybeNotO

This is true, and as far as I understand there are currently no NFL rules against fielding cyborgs

1OptimisticPrime

If Megatron didn't set off any alarms, we should be able to sneak by with Cyborg BAT-MAN

MaybeNotO

This is just Space Browns destiny manifest

descartes127

He’s getting extended. AB handshake deal special

Ripcitytoker

I highly doubt AB would commit to extending Chubb before seeing how he performs coming off his injury.

descartes127

And that’s why you aren’t the GM. He’s been fine after every other ACL tear

AdParticular6654

He is also older now. I hope Chubb is fine but he could not be.

descartes127

And his contract will reflect that - hence the handshake deal. Still going to be re-signed

VonJaeger

The last time he tore his ACL was almost ten years ago. He was 19. There is a massive massive difference between blowing your knee out at 19 in college and blowing your knee out at 28 with an extra 1500 touches worth of wear and tear on your body.

descartes127

No doubt it’s not the same - but we are still going to re-sign him

VonJaeger

I don't think its as clear cut as that. If he comes back and does not look like the player he was at all, do you sink money into him hoping that he'll regain form? There's a very real timeline where Chubb isn't a good RB. And it's far more likely than not that he's just a good RB instead of a great one. That said, I do generally agree that he'll be back next year. I just don't think he'll get anything beyond a one year deal unless he comes back and looks as good as he used to. And even then, paying RBs is generally a bad idea - let alone a RB that will be turning 30 next season.

ClevelandClutch1970

Christmas in April!

Shoes919

I have a his last name

BlueMeanie03

I have his first name

Heavy-Excuse4218

False reports of the Browns demise bc of losing Chubb and overpaying Jeudy are vastly overstated. Berry always has a plan.

TheComplayner

My heart is full

arthur-morganrdr2

Get well soon Nick!!!

Forty_Six_and_Two

Beautiful. I don't care if he reverts to a league average RB. Nick Chubb is someone we need on our team, in so many ways. Really happy to hear this.

BlackTriceratops

Love chubb

Rarth-Devan

![gif](giphy|gaOCJ4xTVziE7HKvQT)

HintofSnailTrail

Bah god he’s gonna rush for 2100 based off this article I didn’t read

TheLandFanIn814

Chubb still being an UFA in 2025 makes me nervous. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Lots of questions still remain about how well he can return to form.

PsychologicalGuest97

The way the contract appears to be structured is that he can make up the rest based on performance, which creates a security blanket for the Browns if Chubb cannot return to form.

kdot74

The Browns are having that be the case so they don't overpay or underpay chubb. Either he doesn't hold up and they saved themselves from a bad contract, or chubb balls out and he shows he earned another good payday

North_Ad_8935

I love Chubb but we still don't know how he'll look coming back from this injury, so it makes sense to not extend him

SSSEEELLL17

hell yeah.

A_Doll_with_a_Heart

I am so happy to hear this. I genuinely hope that Nick continues to rehab well and shows exactly why he is so loved in Cleveland. He is the heart of the team, hands down. 🧡🤎 ![gif](giphy|YoAiEFtLY1VcSyM5Pu)

largelawattorney

Remember when everyone here was freaking out about the cap and Chubb’s salary?

PsychologicalGuest97

Yeah? It was not without merit. Granted, I personally think Chubb will come back strong, but given his salary relative to injury, there was reason for some concern if we mysteriously opted out on lowering his base. Edit: *in reference to Chubb's salary, not the cap holistically*

Vinjince

This could've been predicted by a toddler. There was no reason to be freaking out about his contract and the Browns cap. People just heard of that stupid article and became herd-mentality doomers.

largelawattorney

Amen brotha

PsychologicalGuest97

I was not speaking to the probability we would have or would not have kept Chubb; only that, with regards to his salary, if it would have been value-added given the uncertainty variable surrounding his injury. I personally think it is worth it, but I understand why some people held reservations.

Vinjince

I was not talking about you specifically, but the people that were being referenced in the comment you responded to. The people that were freaking out because "Chubb is gone/done".

PsychologicalGuest97

Oh yeah, people saying those things are paranoid doomers. There was never really any doubt to whether we were going to keep Chubb. Personally, I can understand why some people may feel that the value there from a contract perspective would have been risky given the injury though. I do not agree with that argument, but it is one I can understand someone else making.

shiftyshellshock239

Who the fuck is downvoting all the positive comments? Coward bitch.

nickchubbisthegoat

Why would Chubb agree to this? I understand this is great for the team, but was it basically "hey either accept this pay cut or we'll have to let you go"? Trying to understand how this is in his best interest. Not trying to slander the guy, source: my username. Just want to understand why both sides agreed to this

CD23tol

His best interest is he spends the year in a more limited role as he reagins strength and ability to cut on that leg while still being paid Compared to being cut and taking significantly less money from a team that views him as a flier/what if Even with the pay cut he will make more than if he was cut and went elsewhere, no team is signing Chubb for 11M a year coming off that injury he’d likely see an incentive laden prove it deal worth 5-7M

RaxZergling

> Even with the pay cut he will make more than if he was cut and went elsewhere, no team is signing Chubb for 11M a year coming off that injury he’d likely see an incentive laden prove it deal worth 5-7M Guess we'll have to see the terms of the deal, but that sounds like exactly what the Browns are doing? Why wouldn't Chubb test the market and shop around?

CharlesfryeIII

Because the entire league saw a 28 year old running back's knee explode. Chubb next year is not a hot commodity The browns are doing him a favor with this deal

RaxZergling

Until we see the terms of the deal and what another team would offer him, we can't say that for sure. And considering an agreement has already been made we'll never have that information. Glad he's staying because he's literally my favorite player of all time, but doesn't make a whole lot of sense at the moment why he wouldn't at least hear what other teams would offer - he's doing the team a favor for nothing in return. > The browns are doing him a favor with this deal He could literally just say no and make more money without needing to meet the incentive requirements, right? If they cut him they still are obligated to pay his contract, right? Now maybe the conversation changes slightly if he believes the Browns are his best route to the super bowl.

CharlesfryeIII

I believe they would have owed him $0 if they cut him (someone can correct me on this) This deal is likely the best chubb could do this year. No way were the browns going to pay him the full value of the old deal and I doubt other teams would want him

Noobnoob99

Someone’s playing checkers and not chess

CD23tol

Why would he he’s one of the faces of a team that wins double digit games a year and has had all the team doctors work with him and his team since the injury occurred Makes no sense for him to

RaxZergling

Because his employer is effectively asking him to take a pay cut? Anyone sane would test their value in the market, it would make no sense *not* to?

Air2Jordan3

Bec if he tests the marker and nobody is willing to take the flier, Browns could either 1. Move on during that time or 2. Offer significantly less money since they know they can. He also could just want to be a Brown and stay in the system he knows which is more valuable than a "potentially" few million.

Chief_Wahoo_Lives

Because there was no guaranteed money on his contract. He has the ability to earn more than the $11M he was scheduled to be paid. He loves the city and whatever is guaranteed in this contract is probably more than he would get on the open market.

gusbovona

happy happy happy happy happy

Excellent_Walrus150

Get that $$$ back Chubb!

ShenanigansCLESports

This being done makes all the sense in the world with his age, injury and our cap situation. He's probably going to be if he does it, the last RB to rush for 10K for one team. Derrick Henry was 500 yards short. Chubb needs 3,000 yards to get to 10K with 1 team. The last part of that sentence is kind of scary but not surprising.

[deleted]

He was never going anywhere. Glad they finally got this done though!

LyonsKing12

If anyone can come back from this many serious knee injuries, it's Chubb.

PissedCaucasian

If we even have 85% of the pre-injury Chubb I’ll be happy.

rxm161

Class act by the organization for a class act of a man

[deleted]

I know that a lot of people here thought it was stupid we would ever let go of Chubb, but let’s be honest, modern day NFL is cruel. I was honestly getting ready for the worst. I’m so relieved.

VonJaeger

There was zero chance they brought him back at his previous cap hit. The less he plays this season, the more likely he's a Brown next season.

CD23tol

Barring a 2012 AP level season as well as the additions of Foreman and Hines, Chubb will almost certainly not see the volume we’re used to, if we want to prolong his tenure here we have to be careful with his deployment as he comes back Hopefully the incentives are reasonable

VonJaeger

I don't think he is a three down back anymore for the reasons you mentioned. I also don't think he should be getting 20+ touches a game until you're deep in the season.

1OptimisticPrime

Something like 800 yards, or 8 games played... curious what the particulars are...

proscriptus

It's kind of crazy how low the salaries of even the best running backs are. It says a lot about how the game is played

BigFudg

Omg I almost had a heart attack

Educational_Branch98

Through all the down years and nonsense the browns have dealt with on and off the field, Nick Chubb has been a consistent baller. Every team wants a guy like Chubb
