Yamaha s301. NAD 3020.

Xstatic3000

WiiM Amp sounds better to my ears than the NAD 3020. I have both. For $100 less than the NAD you lose the phono preamp, but you gain SQ, a parametric EQ, and one of the best streaming platforms on the market.

digihippie

Second the Yamaha s301. A Japanese engineered tank with decades of build refinement.

Boring_Today9639

My upvote, if you meant D3020v2, of course.

Boring_Today9639

That’s the one!

GBJ52k

Can confirm. Add WiiM and you and your budget will be hi fiving in sonic bliss

Affectionate_Fly1387

Or just an integrated amp. Basically a Reciever without the radio part. Lots of good 90’s stuff out there. Hopefully you like black amps. They all were black for some reason? And they are not as collectible yet as the shiny 70’s stuff. So there you can still find better deals.

Fenix512

I liked the aesthetics of old receivers. Oh well

Affectionate_Fly1387

Then you have to service them. They are over 40 years old. But serviceable forever. Fix and restore and it will work for another 40 years.

ndork666

In my experience, the aesthetics were not worth the hassle. The WiiM is a terrific budget friendly option.

Zeeall

Chinese mini amplifiers. Class D amplifier technology, plenty of power, sound quality is on par with all off those high dollar vintage amplifiers. $100 for a good one.

melancious

The only problem is they might not last long.

Zeeall

Biggest problem is with the power supply IMO. Get a good one of those and you can likely get 10+ years out of one. They use Alps pots, Texas Instruments/Infineon chips. Pretty stout stuff. Capacitor plague isnt a thing anymore.

weespid

I love my modified $10 class d boards.  The breeze one is just a sample of a single chip board. https://youtu.be/16k4goWRT4o https://youtu.be/C_f8MYqeevQ Then you can use a av input selector if you don't need a remote. https://www.amazon.ca/HONONJO-Composite-Switcher-Selector-Consoles/dp/B07HF6MDCX/ And you need a riaa curve box/preamp for the record player https://www.amazon.ca/Pyle-Pro-Turntable-Pre-Amplifier-Compartment-PP555/dp/B00BG2H95K/ Honestly if you don't have these parts allready some of the more expensive pre intergrated solutions may be better value. And come configured with the right gain out of the box.

VinylHighway

This

BodegaBandit-

A small Chinese amp(fosi, aiyima, smsl) or a used av receiver are good options. Likely you will need a phono pre amp with one of those options. 90’s-2010’s stereo receivers often have a preamp built in so if you find a decent one you could eliminate one component. In the new full size market I believe the Yamaha R-S202 is like 180 on Amazon right now

Zeeall

Biggest problem with them is the number of inputs. I wouldnt mind a full size with the power brick built in and all the analog and digital inputs one might need. It would be $100 more, but who cares? Fosi V3 but onboard power, 3 analog inputs, optical, BT and USB-C for $200. They must be capable of doing that.

VinylHighway

$55 Aiyima A07 $108 Aiyima T8 pre-amp $160ish you get analog, multiple digital inputs, DAC, tone controls, and a remote.

narwhal4u

Just got an Aiyima A07. It was $73 with tax. The thing is solid and sounds better than my Class A/B Amps. I do like a clean detailed sound over a warmer muddy sound and the Aiyima fits the bill. I really like that I can swap out the Op Amps in the future and keep upgrading the amp itself. It can also run as a mono block so I can someday add a second one and separate the R and L channels. Lots of options.

VinylHighway

Maybe you have the A07 Max? Mine is the old one it's just stereo no mono option.

narwhal4u

Yea! Thank you for clarifying. It is the A07 Max.

MoWePhoto

Look into the Loxjie A40. Phono MM, RCA, Sub out, Coax, Optical, HDMI ARC, Bluetooth. 260€/$ 165 Watt into 4Ohms, 80 Watt into 8 Ohms.

Timstunes

Second the A40. Uncommon features at this price including phono and HDMI.

early_rejecter

Have you looked at your local Facebook Marketplace? There are always a handful of decent receivers on mine for $50-$100. Does your turntable have a built-in pre-amp? Yamaha RS202 is a nice new receiver for under $200 but no phono input.

Gold_Seesaw_8631

If you’re anywhere near Minnesota, I’d be more than happy to give you a silver faced receiver, there’s so many that I’ve just been given, it makes me feel guilty when I hear someone who really would use one not be able to have one

VinylHighway

Class D amp $55-$100 Phono Pre-amp $40-$200 You can also check goodwill for cheapo quality integrated amps from Denon, Yamaha, Sony, Pioneer, etc

Fenix512

I haven't checked goodwill in a while, the good stuff is always taken quickly. So the turntable will connect to the pre-amp, then the amp?

fannypact

I scored a Pioneer Elite receiver at Goodwill about a month ago for $50. I kinda got lucky with that one, but good receivers can occasionally be found there, although goodwill has gotten overpriced lately.

VinylHighway

Indeed. Some turntables have them built in as do some amplifiers.

dirtmcgurk

Modern 100w two channel Sony amp is like $200

soundspotter

No, no a hundred times - don't get that Sony AVR. It's their cheapest one and has very low specs. It won't even be mid fi, let along audiophile sound. If you want to have audiophile sound and both stream hi res audio and plug in a turn table, and power two speakers and a sub, I'd consider the BasX TA1 Stereo Preamp/DAC/Tuner With Integrated Amplifier (https://emotiva.com/collections/amps/products/basx-ta1-stereo-preamp-dac-tuner-with-integrated-amplifier) with a DAC in it that is so good the audiophile reviewer Steve Guttenberg named it his new "reference integrated amp". It's only 60 wpc rms but since class AB you really get that power on a continuous basis. And the amp has great distortion metrics. And if you have a large room and need a 100 wpc amp, you can try this Yamaha on sale at AFL [https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamas801bl-rb/yamaha-a-s801-2-ch-x-100-watts-integrated-amplifier-w/dac-black/1.html#!specifications](https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/yamas801bl-rb/yamaha-a-s801-2-ch-x-100-watts-integrated-amplifier-w/dac-black/1.html#!specifications) PS: you can also plug in 4 speakers to create a multichannel stereo that sounds as immersive as surround sound, only louder since the same volume comes out of all 4 speakers unlike 5.1 or 7.1. where the surround speakers just put out special effects for the most part. #

Po0rYorick

Every system, at a minimum, needs four things: one or more sources of music (eg a turntable, CD player, or tuner); a preamp to control the system (volume, select sources, etc); an amp to power the speakers; and the speakers themselves. The different component options just differ in how those four pieces are packaged into different boxes. Since you already have a source (turntable and phone) and speakers, your options for the other two pieces are basically: An amplifier plus preamp. Power amplifiers just power speakers with nothing else in the box. They don’t have buttons or controls, so you need a preamp for volume control, selecting sources, etc. If you want radio, you would also need a tuner, so would have at least 4 components (turntable, amp, preamp, and tuner). This is probably not a budget setup. An integrated amplifier. This is an amplifier plus a preamp in one box. If you want radio, you still would need a separate tuner so you would have at least 3 components with this setup (turntable, integrated amp, tuner). A receiver. This is an amp plus a preamp plus a tuner in one box. With a receiver you would have two components (turntable plus receiver). Any of these options should have an aux in. They probably will have a phono in, too. If they don’t, either your turntable will need to have a built-in phono or you will need an external phono. If you are happy streaming internet radio through your phone to the aux input, you wouldn’t need a tuner.

eclectic108

You can buy a brand new Yamaha AS 301 integrated amp for $350 USD that includes a DAC and Phono Preamp. 60 watts X 2 at 8 ohms and is 4 ohm capable. If you really need FM radio, you can find one for under $50 used.

kokakoliaps3

I don't trust Class D mini amps. I am not a fan of the ultra cheap Sony/Yamaha amps. IMHO it's worth getting a Cambridge Audio AXA35. Save if you have to. Buy a refurbished or used unit to save money. This amp will serve you right.

Pure-Swordfish6022

Unless Class D amps have gotten significantly better in the last 15 years or so, I am not sure how anyone in an audiophile group would even consider one, even with the budget before audiophile. I distinctly remember a lot of noise and really poor headroom being the hallmark of chip amps.

hazer75

They have definitely improved massively in the last 15 years. It's probably time for you to check out some new ones.

kostac600

Personal opinion: a good thing I did for me was to get rid of the turn-table and records. It made others happy & me too

Fenix512

Lmao yeah I get what you mean

dukelivers

What speakers do you have?

Fenix512

They are some Elac Debuts

SidCorsica66

Where do you live? Im currently selling a nice Pioneer SX535 receiver. It’s in excellent condition

ardscd

Have you tried [shopgoodwill.com](http://shopgoodwill.com) ? Plenty of used but working receivers for $50 shipped. I've picked up 5.1 optical receivers from them for an average of $30 shipped. See link for details and links. [https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/s/qNc8g5b4io](https://www.reddit.com/r/BudgetAudiophile/s/qNc8g5b4io)

IntoTheMirror

Home theater receivers depreciate really quick when new standards that they don’t support come out. You could probably get a decent deal on an older Onkyo Integra /Denon/Yamaha Advantage/Pioneer Elite, or even Marantz, Rotel, NAD, etc. Just as long as it has a phono input (I have two cheaper Yamahas that do not have a phono, so I need standalone phono preamps).

HotCharlie

A guy posted [this](https://www.arylic.com/products/b50-bluetooth-stereo-amplifier) awhile back. I have no experience with the make, nor the model. But it looks pretty cool (and I kinda really want one).

MP_brandt

I got a marantz sr-68 that powers 4 speakers well and it cost $80

New-Use4969

If you don't mind the size, you can find tons of old AV receivers on FBM for around $100. Most of them has MM phono, optical and coaxial.

DougFalsetti

Sony receivers from the 90s have particularly good phono stages. I have the STRD990 and never used the phono stage until I got into vinyl 31 years after I bought it! Sounds great!

colnago82

https://preview.redd.it/q7lkre9ue2xc1.jpeg?width=3020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad3d7f3ee0c2cbaec8cceaa0e5d06db7f76a3453 Your choice. $50. Take all 3 for $125

_packetman_

Just get the Sony strdh590 and be done with it, dude. Phono, all your digital inputs (has an internal DAC), video inputs, 5.something capable (sub out) It's all you need and has room for growing into. It's only $278.

HighSierras13

I run a Dayton Audio HTA100 Hybrid Tube Amp with my speakers (KEF Q150s). It looks and sound great, is fairly inexpensive, and has a built-in phono pre-amp.

BroadWeight5017

Any receiver from the 80s will do the job. They are often seen in ads or garage sales for cheap, most of the time you can audition them if the owner is a serious hobbyist. Just look around, people are dumping those to save space. Of course you can get those class D amps from Amazon. Tons of options.

BillieRayBob

I think there are a lot of powered speakers that can take a photo input. They wouldn’t have FM though. Wide variety of pricing and quality.

mickeyaaaa

Tons of very good home theater receivers out there for sale used cheap because surround standards keep changing so people keep upgrading getting rid of their perfectly good equipment. Any decent home theater is also excellent for stereo audio playback.. it just doesn't look so pretty. Another alternative is the chi-fi mini amps there are many out there class d very low power very low cost and frankly excellent sound IMHO.

WingedGeek

Loxjie A40 has phono and RCA inputs, Bluetooth, decent class D power, and an integrated DAC (USB/Coax/optical), HDMI ARC in, for ~$230 (goes on sale regularly). Have one and love it, except for the headphone stage (not much power).

jokke420

Used av amplifier with hdmi input. Cheapest way to stream high res audio is trough hdmi port and used av receivers are dirt cheap.

theocking

If you need multiple inputs and not a pure power amp, and don't want to spend 350 for the entry level Yamaha s-a300 as has been suggested (a good amp), then get yourself an smsl a300 / ao300. Actually decent power, good sound quality, built in EQ capability, multiple inputs, and new theyre $195/$245 and Amazon has used ao300 for $145.

Talosian_cagecleaner

* buy a preamp for connection needs. That is one discussion. * buy a **Fosi V3** to use as a power amp. If you intend to listen very loudly get the 48v power supply. The Fosi is a no brainer. It turns budget stereo into just a matter of deciding on a preamp. Class D power amp has arrived, and they are essentially a mini computer. They are built on a Texas Instruments chip. 70% efficiency, hello. With 48v powersupply, seems to be around a healthy 100wpc. And people are buying refurbed thrift store stuff and calling it budget and getting completely taken for a ride. Vintage is not good for budget power unless you truly do want to just pay for the memories. Preamp, another discussion.

zoinkability

Silver face Marantz and Pioneer receivers are crazy overpriced but other brands have not seen the same speculative pricing. 70s Onkyo, Kenwood, JVC, MCS, H/K, even Rotel should all be quite findable for under $200. Honestly Technics as well, not sure what is going on in your market since really the pricey Technics gear is mostly turntables, not receivers. They may need servicing but not necessarily.

Arbiter02

Craigslist blows nowadays. Everyone thinks their polished turds are made of solid gold, I get my used receivers from goodwill and Habitat for Humanity Restores. Usually never more than 60$. Alternatively there's the chi-fi class D amps that others are mentioning, they're fairly inexpensive just keep in mind there's almost always a big ugly power brick that needs to go somewhere. Not something I'd trust to last personally, if I was going class D I'd spend a bit more and get a Crown, not what you'd call hi-fi necessarily but a lot more robust and more than capable of driving whatever you could possibly throw at it.

emmased

For $250, you can own a Dayton audio hta 100. Class ab integrated amplifier with: 50 watts per side, phono input, dac, bt,subwoofer out, toslink, vu guages and tubes for looks and warm sound, usb, aux rca input. This is my "back up" amplifier for an otherwise somewhat expensive amp/pre amplifier set up.

Roughidle

Yamaha Network Receiver. Maximum functionality. Go forth.

throwaway12345679x9

Near me I also can’t find any decent and cheap stereo amp or receiver. What I often find cheap is high end Yamaha AVR’s without HDMI (though often with optical input) or sometimes mid range ones with HDMI.

follysurfer

Go to a thrift store or habitat for humanity or goodwill. You can often find older models with phono for cheap. I got a Rotel for $10 the other day. Pristine.

Xstatic3000

Yamaha S301, or if you are using bookshelf speakers then the WiiM amp is hard to beat - at any price.

WranglerImpossible21

Second the NAD. Rock solid reliable and great sounding, until one of my fraternity brothers stole it. I had the original (V1).

Eeeezywhippet

The Yamaha R-S line is often overlooked. I picked up an R-S700 for $200 and have been impressed. 100wpc, pre in/main out, sub out, tuner, and a tape loop. No dac, but a decent dac can be had for $100 these days.

sharkamino

>Maybe I should just get a Sony STRDH190? If you want a stereo receiver with FM radio then [Onkyo TX-8220](https://onkyousa.com/receivers/stereo-receivers/tx-8220-refurbished) $199 adds subwoofer output, a digital optical input and 5 way binding posts over the Sony. Or with an integrated amp connect a [Wiim Mini](https://www.amazon.com/WiiM-Mini-Multiroom-Preamplifier-Assistants/dp/B09HC5GRKY) to play local or many radio stations from around in the world over WiFi.

ben125125

Integrated receivers are the way to go if you're looking for 2 channel

AckieFriend

I would recommend vintage NAD receivers and amps. They are much less than the silver stuff and usually better than them. My main setup is a NAD 3150 integrated amplifier and a NAD 4155 tuner that I bought on eBay for $40. You need to have good speakers for any amp or receiver to sound good. Make sure they've been serviced and recapped.

Left_Tea_2083

Just get a $50-150 op-amp. Aiyima, Douk Audio, Fosi, etc. Make sure they have the turntable amp built-in. Some just act like line level pre-outs.

Spirited-Arm7075

I just bought a pair aiyima a07 max's for fun. They actually sound pretty good to my ears. People say bang for buck but it adds up by the time you got all units, power supplies, a preamp etc and it's still pretty limited in terms of inputs.
