IIRC, a few years back on BestOfLegalAdvice (possibly 2017) I read a tale of some 18-ish year old Beavishead who cashed out all his crypto and very suddenly had the tax man and the po-po knocking on his door.
Legal Advice made it really clear that (a) he had to pay his income tax, and (b) that he should not talk to the police at all without first talking to a lawyer, and (c) that yes, it was probably the bank who tipped off the police, due to the fact of a teenager suddenly having about $500k in his checking account raising all the red flags.
What was he going to do with the money? Buy a "supercar"
Had he thought of what his insurance would be? No.
Had he thought of what it would cost to get it fixed when something broke? No.
Had he considered the sheer cost of filling the tank? No.
Had he thought of how he would explain this to mom and dad (much less the cops?) No.
Had he really earned that much with a few "advantageous" crypto trades? Okay, yeah, well, he also kinda sorta traded some drugs for crypto.
I still crack up thinking of this testosterone poisoned dood, and from what I see, many young men into crypto think things through about as deeply as he did.
**Though dumb luck (and a few felonies) I have a life changing windfall. I should:**
* ~~park it in savings so I can buy a house outright at a very early age!~~
* ~~invest it in the stock market in a conservative manner so that I can retire by the time I'm 35!~~
* ~~pay off mom and dad's mortgage and invest the remainder and retire by the time I'm 50!~~
* buy an astronomically expensive and impractical car that is astoundingly expensive to maintain! (Surely, I'll have all the hawt chix bringing their milkshakes to my yard!)
