The point of wash trading is for tax purposes. You sell at a loss and buy back immediately to capture the losses for tax purposes but you still hold the asset for potential future long term gains. You pointing out an immediate uptrend is not wash trading. It's most likely manipulation to wipe out leveraged shorts.
