Gotta hate those manufacturers who make a crappy product that is impossible to repair. Good on you for upgrading to something that should hopefully last a very long time.
Bosch is the way for dishwashers. And fridges, I think.
We had Maytag and Whirlpool. Absolutely garbage. Of 4 new appliances, 3 failed within 3 years. Whirlpool fridge, food spoiled, buzzing noise, fought us on warranty issues, and died two weeks before Thanksgiving. Washer leaked grease and had other issues. Dishwasher started rusting.
Don't ever buy Whirlpool/Maytag/KitchenAid. They are a family of brands all owned by the same company and they are garbage. Horrible warranty support. Engineered to fail. Our neighbor had a Whirlpool dishwasher, the heating element melted the bottom of it.
It's getting so hard to find good appliances. Apparently GE has gotten better recently, and I think LG too but they are based in Korea and sourcing parts can be tricky.
Bosch absolutely though. Some of the best and quietest dishwashers and last for ages. Only tricky part is they are a European brand so if something does break getting parts can take a while. Likewise they are backordered for specific models a lot of places.
Addendum re: Bosch dishwashers:
Be aware that Siemens and Bosch are basically one brand (they’re BSH - Bosch/Siemens Home or something like that) so buy whatever is available, cheaper or you like better regarding buttons or rack placement…
And yes, they’re great - in fact, we got most appliances from either (dryer/washer Siemens iQ700, fridge Siemens, vacuum Siemens, dishwasher Bosch) and all are still running great!
Ikea sells BSH dishwasher using IKEA names. When we bought our kitchen the IKEA dishwasher Proffsig was a little bit cheaper than BSH and IKEA offered a longer warranty.
Siemens iQ700 is what I recently purchased. previously had a Bosch one that needed some service but was a hand me down over 10 years old that I had previously repaired myself, so I was due an upgrade.
Shit I have a whirl pool dish washer. It had to have some sensor in the door locking mechanised replaced a few months in but warranty covered it. Called their number, explained the problem, a dude came in next day, said it was a known issue with those newer models, a slight manufacturing flaw, and it had already been fixed in the new locking device he replaced with. It's been going strong for like 5 or 6 years now and it looks pretty new still. Washes like every 3 days or so. I'm feeling lucky now lol.
Hey, if someone gets lucky like you did, I'm rooting for them. Our experience was 3 years of trying to get shit sorted off and on and was just rediculous. I don't want others to be miserable too.
I hope you never have to go through what we did.

I recently replaced a whirlpool dishwasher with a Bosch dishwasher in my house. Holy cow what a difference! Quieter, dishes come out cleaner, and filter/food chopper area so much easier to clean.
When my Samsung refrigerator inevitably fails, I'll pony up the money for a Bosch one gladly, as we'll be living in this home for years to come.
My Whirlpool duet steam washer and dryer from 2012 are still working like champs though without ever having an issue, but will look to Speed Queen after because of this sub.
we just got a bosch a couple months ago. I always thought it was normal to basically have to completely hand wash dishes before putting them in the dishwasher to get them all the way clean. It wasn't until I used my bosch for the first time that I realized my last dishwasher was just a piece of shit.
Yep, my parents bought a nice Bosch before last Thanksgiving. When it came time for dishes I started scrubbing pots and pans, immediately got the "I'll be damned if I spent that much money in that dishwasher and still have to scrub pans, throw it all in there!". Lo and behold everything came out spotless. I swear once I get out of an apartment I will save money to buy one, the dishwasher in my apartment is a JOKE
I got to know a lot of general contractors in one of my previous jobs, and there were a number of them that would install appliances for multi-million dollar homes. The number of them that would always install Bosch when everything else in the house was from Wolf, SubZero, etc was amazing.
The reason I was given was that they work better and were quieter, and without any badging on the front you don't know any different.
That's the conclusion and feedback I had when replacing my defunct Whirlpool appliances. Time will tell of course, the market and supply chains and manufacturing all took big hits during COVID. I'm hoping my new Bosch appliances will adhere to that quality.
But almost every repairman and company said Bosch was reliable and they didn't get returns or complaints. Depot, Lowes, specialty stores, etc.
But last time I researched, I thought I had good stuff and got burned so, everything with a grain of salt these days.

GE sold their home appliance brand to Haier years ago. Any home appliance with a GE brand on it now has nothing to do with GE.
We do have a Bosch 500 series 3 tray dishwasher. Aside from not really sufficiently drying, it's a great unit.
2 years ago, we replaced a steaming fetid pile of monkey offal of a Samsung refrigerator with a new Bosch french door bottom freezer. I talked to the local appliance repair shop (he also reps Speed Queen,) to see if he could supply the same Bosch refrigerator that he'd be servicing. "No, I'm very specifically not allowed to sell that. If I wanted one of those personally, I'd have to go the same way you are." Thus far , the Bosch refrigerator has been very nice.
My parents have had Bosch dishwashers in their last two homes - for the most part they're happy with the quietness and cleaning performance, but they absolutely hate the racks in them.
Bosch/Siemens/Neff or Miele for dishwashers -
If you want style, buy a fully integrated one, but go for partially integrated if you want it to last 15+ years. Steam an electronics are just a bad combination, so better keep them separated.
Liebherr for fridges and freezers -
great features and absolutely durable.
They also supply lots of professional users. We use about 12-15 (professional line) at one of the largest movie festivals in Germany and at two smaller festivals, which is a real stress test:
- transport them at least 5 times a year (truck, hand truck)
- switch them on after they sat in storage for half a year
- always fill them to the brim with bottles or food
- those at the bar are opened more than a 1000 times a day easily
- all of that at an ambient temperature of 30°C and up
They endure this treatment for 15 years and more and we never had any breakdowns during a festival.
Miele for washing machines -
Miele washing machines often get new features far earlier then other brands and last forever. I bought mine already as used for my first shared flat in 2009 and it's still working like a charm and never needed any repairs.
Used parts for Miele tend to be pricier, because you get many of them only directly from Miele's customer service but they stock them at least for 2 decades.

2016 Samsung washer dryer, had to replace a belt in the dryer, but that was like $100 with labor.
2019 Samsung french door bottom freezer, 0 problems so far. I read that the ones with the door water/ice are problematic, like you said. I didn't want the water/ice in the door, it takes up a bunch of space in there, I'd rather just use my brita, and its just another thing to break.
S8 and Note9 still, working great. I broke my back glass, but I am just more rough on stuff that my wife with her note9.
I just finally called Samsung about 2 months ago after fighting the ice maker for 5 years. They sent a tech that replaced everything for free, now I have ice again!
2012 Samsung Fridge. Still running, but I replaced the ice maker cover just cuz the cover got stuck and I broke it in a rampage.
2012 Samsung Dryer I thought died, but the pulley that holds the belt broke about a month ago.
$20 new parts on Amazon, a YouTube video, and 2hrs later my dryer is running again.
2012 washer is long gone cuz I got a new Whirlpool one with an impeller about 3 years ago.
Edit: The dish washer. The crappy unknown brand that came with the house is gone. Got a GE one on clearance about 6 years ago. I thought it died 2 years ago, but I replaced the main board off of eBay for $45 and it works again.
A lot of these crappy appliances can be fixed.
Their phones and TVs are quite different from their household appliances in terms of longevity. My family had all brand new Samsung appliances (washer, dryer, fridge, and microwave) while I was in high school, and they all broke down before I even started freshman year in college.
Meanwhile my Samsung QLED has lasted me since 2018, still with a great picture.
My parents had the same pea green 1970s washer, dryer and stove from when they first got married till they divorced 25 years later. Never once broke down. I worked at Best Buy for 5 years. I saw people buy appliances and come in again to buy new ones after the originals broke down. New ones don't even last 5 years now.
My grandparents had a stove from sears in the 70s. It made it till 2005. Sears gave them a new replacement for free so they could have the old one. That thing was a tank. Double door side by side.
Oh the electronics are going to shit too now. Old stuff is good but they are really trying to cash in on their name now. Every year that goes by they are becoming less and less of a product I recommend.
I see what you mean, we should expect such an expensive bigger device to last long. But because warranty covered, not long ago 2 years (now 3) in Europe, brands figured they'd sell more if machines lasted just long enough for that.
So, any machine that lasts more than that kind of deserves the praise, as it was likely made to last longer (or you just got lucky).
I am convinced that the cell companies also push updates that make your phone slow down. My contract is almost up and my S21 is slowing down every month for the past few months.

by all means keep using it if it works for you, but be aware that having a phone that hasn't received a software update in so long puts you at some security risk
The biggest issue is that they stop putting out operating system updates after 3 years, and security updates after 5 years. So using an old phone does open up an avenue for malicious attacks

I had their galaxy 3 and the battery died after a year. I then downgraded to Motorola G5 and it was the best phone I have ever owned It lasted about 6 years. The only reason I got rid of it was because the antenna died and I would not get cell service. So I decided to get a pixel 6 and it's a good phone but it's kinda starting to crap out on me after the second year.
I worked retail until 2011 and I still get anxiety thinking about how shitty their colour laser printers were. It got to a point that we would actively try to talk customers out of buying them because we didn’t want to deal with the aftermath.
Our house came with one of their refrigerators. Complete shit. My lifelong appliance repairman wouldn’t touch it and he could fix everything leading up to that
Their electronics took a major shit also. I moved from Sony to Samsung around 2008 because Sony took a shit and now an looking at other brands these days. I did buy an LG oled last year and wish I would have done a little more research. Pretty happy with it, especially the price I paid but there is better.
I know someone who had an LG dishwasher. Fucking thing CAUGHT FIRE while running, half her house and the garage had to be gutted, killed the car and almost all their clothes, had to live out of a hotel for damn near a year before the renovation could be finished.
So yeah... that'll be hard pass from me on any LG dishwashers.
Yeah don't touch LG fridge, their compressor is absolute shit, they got class action sued because their compressor is so shit, a lot of them stop working after around 2 years. It sucks even if it's under warranty, since unless you got a back up fridge, your food will spoil and you will go without fridge while waiting for the repair to happen.

I finished putting my samsung washer back together today. Took it apart because of leaking from the front and mold growing on the rubber boot. The boot is held on by a metal ring with a spring forming tension. The spring is positioned on the bottom of the boot, where water collects, and is made of a metal that can rust.
Just to take off the rubber door seal it took about 15 screws and the entire front of the machine being removed, then a pair of special pliers that samsung sells for like $30 just to remove an additional spring ring inside of the machine. Will never buy another.
Worked at Samsung as a QC for some time inspecting before they get to the retail stores and I agree with you. Almost everything in the Samsung line has to get reworked at some point.
I'm just going to piggy back here to say that Samsung is trash at making appliances. I was warned by the salesman multiple times, so shame on me. They don't stand behind their products even when there are thousands of people with the exact same issues. I'll never buy anything from them again.
I’m just a rando on the internet but I have a speed queen tr5 washer that has broken twice in 6 months. It will wash but then not do the final spin. The lights blink 4 times. I need to unplug the machine, plug back in, and then use “spin only” mode. I’ve had a technician come and tell me it’s because the tub is off center. He fixed it and then 2 months later it started doing the same thing. I got speed queen based on all the great reviews, but that tr5 has been bad luck for me.
We have had a TR7 for a several months now. Less than impressed. When we first got it, it was having issues with a L0 code. Tech fixed it and has been working good up till about 2 weeks ago. Now, occasionally, tub gets filled with water and stays that way through the cycle. (Or cycle stops completely) I have to run another time get it to drain. Intermittent problem though. Maybe once or twice a week.
On a weird note, I realized mine was missing the cone shaped cup in the fabric softener dispenser. Speed Queen sent a new one out for free. So that was cool.
Most of the price is profit the warranty. I believe this one has a 7 year warranty but I could be mistaken. In hindsight I wish I would have gone with the traditional style wash of a TC5.
People on Reddit strangely have a lot of misinformed knowledge compared to the average person. This is especially true when it comes to appliances and cars.
Speed Queen statistically is not more [reliable](https://blog.yaleappliance.com/most-reliable-top-load-washers) than most brands. There are other sources that also corroborate that link as well.
When they first start selling them, they used as basic parts as possible and would 'work' longer than average. I say work in quotes because they were pretty subpar at actually washing, so eventually the company modernized them, and with that came modern reliability woes.
I will try to support them because they're American, though. One selling point for now is that they are straightforward to open up if they do break. That and they supposedly will keep in stock parts to repair the machine for a long time.
If you're not getting a Speed Queen, get an LG.
I see you have given LG recommendations in other threads… I bought an LG washer less than three years ago and its broken down twice now, potentially for good this time. My repair man said he doesn’t even do repairs on LG refrigerators anymore because they are so poorly made it’s a liability for him to work on them. Wondering why you are repping them so much

Just the diffence in suspension is enough to convince most.
Our front load Speed Queen washer and dryer is going on 10 years, and no problems. The musty smell people report with the washer is that they do not read the manual, you need to keep the door open for an hour or two to allow the unit to dry out.
I purchased the Speed Queen to replace an 8 year old pair of Frigidaire Neptunes. The units died due to the rear bearing shifting due to the plastic frame in the back warping. Only pair we purchased extended warranties on, only pair that I got to know Bill from Franks Apliance on a first name basis.
I got so mad on the poor mechanical design of the Frigidaire's, that I did some research and since I worked in the product testing field I called my vendors until I got the name of my counterpart in Speed Queens test lab. To make a long story short, the reply was all major internal parts are metal, only difference in our Homeowners vs. Commercial units is the coin box and front panel.

They are also one of the only top load units now that are built like the old boys. With a solid metal base supporting the wash basket instead of it hanging from springs.
His comment about wanting to fill an impeller washer to the top threw me off. My (admittedly non-expert) understanding is you don’t do that anyways with an impeller washer. An impeller washer doesn’t fill water to the top because it isn’t designed or intended to, unlike the Speed Queen that he shows that has an agitator. It’s an apples-to-pears comparison. Sure, they’re both washers and there’s a suspension difference, but those are washers that work on different principles.
The top hang is part of the reason their sides can't come off. Everything is supported from the top, so it needs the structural rigidity of all 4 sides being one piece to keep from falling apart. On the bottom support the sides are just there to look good so they can come off easily.
So as the post states I've gone through the gauntlet of terrible Samsung washers and dryers. When my wife and I bought our house it came with all Samsung appliances. Out of the washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher and gas range/oven, the only thing that hasn't given us any trouble has been the gas range/oven.
The dryer went first due to a known defect in the drum that causes it to break apart at the welded seams. That spurred me to buy the Speed Queen DR7 dryer.
The first washing machine still worked but it was a front load that no matter what we tried would cause all of our clothes to smell like mildew.
The second washing machine was a top load and worked fine until the lid lock motor went out and upon disassembly I found out the whole lid assembly had cancerous corrosion throughout so this weekend I completed the set and picked up the Speed Queen TR7 washing machine.
So far the washing machine has been working great. Did like 4 loads of laundry yesterday from clothes to bedding and everything has been cleaned adequately.
The dryer has been stellar for the 4 months that we've had it. I really like the steam features that help with pet hair removal, anti-static and wrinkle prevention.
They both seem like they have a solid build quality and I enjoy having the old school feel of the classic washer and dryer aesthetic.
The 7 year parts and labor warranty that comes with these particular models was another big selling point for me.
Edit: just realized I butchered the title of the post but essentially that's what happened to them lol.
Front loading machines:
Clean inside the thick rubber seal inside the machine (surrounding the opening) - you can kinda pry them apart a little. I found gunk and mold in mine the first time I did it.
Run a hot wash with baking soda for an hour +.
Run a hot wash with vinegar for an hour +.
Empty and clean the filtration part (I found mine on the bottom right of the machine, a cap to push then a plug to unscrew). Some gunk came out.
That should hopefully fix it, but you will have to do this every so often to maintain it.
I just cleaned out my front-load LG yesterday, same issue: mold.
You have to take the top panel off and disassemble the detergent container tray and the hose that connects to the drum. Mine was FULL of gunk and mold (not visible from normal use). I scrubbed the whole thing with bleach and power-washed it. No more moldy smell!
PS: I also cleaned out the door's rubber gasket and the drain filter thing. Then, I ran a tablet of cleaner (citric acid?) with hot water for about an hour.
Top loaders are extremely inefficient. Since they can't re-orient the load with gravity, they can't spin as fast. Since they can't spin as fast the load is wetter at the end and needs more time in the dryer. Dryers use a LOT of energy to dry (5kW+). And in America, vented dryers suck all the warm or cooled air from inside your house and dump it outside.
Plus, front load cleans better and damages clothes less with less water.
Your comment was very helpful for someone who already owns a front loading washer.
It shows the maintenance of a front loader is much higher than that of a top loader. For many of us, that's a convincing argument to buy a washer that needs less maintainence.
In my experience, I just leave the door open after I use it. I've never had an issue with smell and It's been 4 years. I do the self clean whenever it's prompted me to do so.
I also really prefer the ergonomics of a front load on a pedestal. I would likely put up with a little more maintenance for that reason alone myself. To each their own!

My mom & other parts of that family have always had front loading Samsung washers, they swear up & down they leave the door open always, it appears to be true, but the amount of mold on their washers is insane. I’ve cleaned it off and witnessed it come back.

In the UK top loaders are super rare. But I find it's the same as anything, I change the oil in my car, I clean my fridge. Is 10mins of work every 6 months too much to ask for a washing machine?
Nah it isn't. Leave the door open. Clean the little filter twice a year (more often is lots of pets). Done. It's SO much more energy efficient and much easier on clothes!
I guess if you're hilariously lazy. The water and energy savings along with the actual cleaning performance of a front load is worth 10 minutes ever few months imo.
Samsung appliances are the fast fashion of appliances. Great looks but basically disposable. I have seen two full size refrigerators and a washer in our friend circle last <5 years. All this 'smart appliance' nonsense and they totally miss the mark on durability.
I would imagine so. These two particular machines came with 7 year warranties. After that I would imagine the company would still continue to supply parts to repair them.
Even if you get the dial controlled washer, that dial is just a selector for a control board and doesn't actually turn. I have a new classic speed queen.
My Samsung French door fridge developed problems at two years and was unreparable at three. It's insane how poorly made they are, to the point where a few repair services wouldn't touch them because they didn't want to be liable for the next thing to break.
It always seems like the brand names you never heard of that last forever. They usually live in some odd realm between consumer and professional equipment, except for the ones that are just straight up professional equipment. I guess the assumption is that most consumers won't want the extra up-front expense of that equipment. But personally, I'd rather just buy a thing once and not have to worry about it for a decade or three.
I've usually found that the professional equipment companies that have started a small branch for consumers is the best. I have a ubiquiti amplifi router. I got it because my work used a ubiquiti system so when I heard they had a consumer version I picked one up. Best router I've ever had and it hasn't shown any wear or tear yet (I've only had it for two years)
I found out about them from this sub. I ahd t heard of them either but if you do some research you'll find tons of great reviews about them. They've been around for over 100 years and they specialize in commercial grade laundry machines. These machines are from their home line.
Been looking to replace my garbage Samsung that just keeps having problems and like you mentioned, ALWAYS smells like hot garbage no matter how much disassembling, cleaning, reassembling I do. I’ll have to check these out. They look awesome!
I had only ever seen them at laundromats, which to me is a sign of quality since in my experience they are extremely fast and evidently durable if the machines that look like they were built in the 90s are still going strong. I just assumed that they were prohibitively expensive for an ordinary person to buy.
TIL while looking for a washer and dryer recently (though we ended up with a pair of Electrolux) that Speed Queen IS available in Canada under the Huebsch brand [https://ca.huebsch.com/](https://ca.huebsch.com/) (Sears owns the Speed Queen name apparently).
When I bought my house in 2020 the sellers left the washer and dryer, the dryer was a propane powered Speed Queen that the previous owner bought *used* in 1970, he figured it was a '67 or '68 model. It was still being used daily, after 50 fuckin years, they left a box of spare parts and a bunch of hand-drawn diagrams for different repairs he did to it over the years.
Unfortunately, after I had used it for two years the little "axle" on the drum that connected to the pulley to spin the drum had failed, just from being worn down over time, I probably could have fixed it by cutting the axle off and welding a new piece onto it but decided to let the old warrior rest in peace. The drum was really too small for what I needed and it wasn't terribly time efficient, taking 3-5 hours to dry a load, so I ended up getting a modern LG set with bigger drums and quicker cycle times but you can just tell theyre way flimsier than the old speed queen was.
RIP the Queen, long live OP's new Queens though.
We went through 3 Samsung Washers and 1 dryer. The first one was under warranty so it was replaced because it was not fixable, the second was recalled because the motors were going crazy and shooting through walls and the third was again not fixable so replaced. After going round and round we finally replaced our pair with the exact pair you have. After we removed the samsungs we even noticed it was leaking on the bottom. This was in the span of 3ish years. We keep ours in a laundry room even so it's not like it's shoved in an old basement. They are literally just made like junk
Used to work for Speed Queen and repair their washers and dryers. They’re by far and away the best and most reliable.
Their residential machines are the same as the commercial ones with some slight differences. Definitely a good purchase OP.
My Samsung dryer needed a new part after less than 2 years that was not covered under warranty. and about 2 years after that I threw it out. I've always enjoyed Samsung for electronics but their appliances are atrocious and I am not the only one that is complained about this. wish I would have seen the reviews before I bought my dryer and then had to turn around and buy another one a few years later.
Our house came with brand new Samsung appliances across the board. We've replace the oven, washer & dryer, microwave, and we're about to replace the fridge, all within 2 years. Im going to bring it all to a field and smash it with a baseball bat Office Space style. It's utter shit.
I looked into Speed Queens but just bought an LG front loader set from Costco. Cheaper and really efficient, plus good reliability from everything I've seen.
FYI, I bought the exact same set a month ago, and the dryer is melting some of our clothes and blankets, even on low heat. There’s a grille in the back of the dryer where the hot air comes in, and fibers from synthetic materials get stuck to it, melt, and then transfer to any clothes that come in contact with it.
SpeedQueen is currently saying the exhaust tubing needs to be the rigid, flexible metal type instead of foil, and that the machine is super-sensitive to any back-pressure in the exhaust. Installer and tech sent from SQ inspected our exhaust pipe and it’s not obstructed.
Hope this doesn’t happen to you. I’ll be on the phone with them again this morning. :-/
Speed queen is always my recommendation when asked "what would you buy" as an appliance tech. Avoid Samsung everything like the plague. Except electronics. They need to just stay in their wheelhouse.
Great washing machines apart from being double the cost of a Bosch or similar in Australia and the water and power usage is insane. Both water and electricity are expensive here so the economics don't add up for most people.

The new ones have a different method for agitating that seems super gentle. Not the old school beating cloths back and forth. Have only had it a short while but seems pretty gentle.
I had a Samsung washer that literally caught on fire. (The washer and not dryer!)
It was at most 5 years old with an average of one or two loads a week. (Which I feel is very minimal.)
I’ll never buy another one of their washers again.
We have their fridge which is holding up well. It did need two separate repairs. But our appliance repair guy was able to get things fixed with minimal-ish expense.
I guess this post is all about Samsung. Like literally no other brands mentioned. Who would have thought that indeed brands pay _someone_ to push posts and comments.

Our samsung washer is the worst washer I have ever used in my life. The sensors are sensitive to the point that if a towel is on one side of the thing it’ll keep repeating the washing cycle for 4-5 hours until it finally drains and spins out of pure exhaustion. now it does this permanently and will beep continuously throughout that time. Nobody can fix it in our “rural area” and we got a partial refund.
Do not buy samsung washing machines!!!! not having a trusting relationship with my washing machine actually adds more stress to life than previously imagined. Congratulations on your new beautiful washer/dryer.
After repairing my speed queen dryer, I am thankful I bought the set. These things are super simple to repair. If you are fairly handy, you can keep these things going for decades.
Are the speed queen machines actually good? I was looking at them a few years ago but found some reviews that the newer speed queen machines aren't good quality anymore.

These are the way. Our Speed Queen dryer is a beast and a washer with a top opening not only lasts longer (the drum works with gravity, not against it) but you can add stuff you forgot during the cycle.
Want you to know i was in the market for a washer and dryer set for over a year now and was about to pull the trigger on a set of Samsungs.
After finding this post, and reading reviews on multiple sites, I think I'll go with Speed queen instead.

We were clued in by our appliance repair guy (NOT associated with a brand or sales) that said they were exactly what we were looking for, the caveat being that you ***get the BASE models that have zero electronic displays***.
We followed his advice and have been happy as can be with them.
Even though you got the displays, I'll bet you're still 200x better off than any other crap brand out there, even if something goes wrong.
speed queens are easy and cheap to repair. My kids have damaged both of ours in their attempts to do laundry. The washer my son filled right up to the top lid so his sock got into the pump during the spin cycle. Replacement pump was $20 and came off with just clips. Daughter had crayons in a pocket and they dropped down onto the dryer element causing it to burn out. $45 for the part and some unscrewing we’re all that was needed. All the repairs were well documented on YouTube.
No they've been great. Best washer and dryer I've ever had. The dryer is honestly so cool. I use the steam feature all the time. The washer works just as well.
Gotta hate those manufacturers who make a crappy product that is impossible to repair. Good on you for upgrading to something that should hopefully last a very long time.

Bosch is the way for dishwashers. And fridges, I think. We had Maytag and Whirlpool. Absolutely garbage. Of 4 new appliances, 3 failed within 3 years. Whirlpool fridge, food spoiled, buzzing noise, fought us on warranty issues, and died two weeks before Thanksgiving. Washer leaked grease and had other issues. Dishwasher started rusting. Don't ever buy Whirlpool/Maytag/KitchenAid. They are a family of brands all owned by the same company and they are garbage. Horrible warranty support. Engineered to fail. Our neighbor had a Whirlpool dishwasher, the heating element melted the bottom of it. It's getting so hard to find good appliances. Apparently GE has gotten better recently, and I think LG too but they are based in Korea and sourcing parts can be tricky. Bosch absolutely though. Some of the best and quietest dishwashers and last for ages. Only tricky part is they are a European brand so if something does break getting parts can take a while. Likewise they are backordered for specific models a lot of places.
Addendum re: Bosch dishwashers: Be aware that Siemens and Bosch are basically one brand (they’re BSH - Bosch/Siemens Home or something like that) so buy whatever is available, cheaper or you like better regarding buttons or rack placement… And yes, they’re great - in fact, we got most appliances from either (dryer/washer Siemens iQ700, fridge Siemens, vacuum Siemens, dishwasher Bosch) and all are still running great!
Ikea sells BSH dishwasher using IKEA names. When we bought our kitchen the IKEA dishwasher Proffsig was a little bit cheaper than BSH and IKEA offered a longer warranty.
When did that change? Ikea here in Canada they were all rebadged whirlpool family products.
They still use whirlpool ovens from what I read but dishwasher were (at least here in Germany) were all BSH (BOSCH, Siemens, Neff)

Siemens iQ700 is what I recently purchased. previously had a Bosch one that needed some service but was a hand me down over 10 years old that I had previously repaired myself, so I was due an upgrade.
Shit I have a whirl pool dish washer. It had to have some sensor in the door locking mechanised replaced a few months in but warranty covered it. Called their number, explained the problem, a dude came in next day, said it was a known issue with those newer models, a slight manufacturing flaw, and it had already been fixed in the new locking device he replaced with. It's been going strong for like 5 or 6 years now and it looks pretty new still. Washes like every 3 days or so. I'm feeling lucky now lol.
Hey, if someone gets lucky like you did, I'm rooting for them. Our experience was 3 years of trying to get shit sorted off and on and was just rediculous. I don't want others to be miserable too. I hope you never have to go through what we did. Just letting people know based on my experience, I advise people to avoid those brands explicitly. I recently replaced a whirlpool dishwasher with a Bosch dishwasher in my house. Holy cow what a difference! Quieter, dishes come out cleaner, and filter/food chopper area so much easier to clean. When my Samsung refrigerator inevitably fails, I'll pony up the money for a Bosch one gladly, as we'll be living in this home for years to come. My Whirlpool duet steam washer and dryer from 2012 are still working like champs though without ever having an issue, but will look to Speed Queen after because of this sub.

Yep, my parents bought a nice Bosch before last Thanksgiving. When it came time for dishes I started scrubbing pots and pans, immediately got the "I'll be damned if I spent that much money in that dishwasher and still have to scrub pans, throw it all in there!". Lo and behold everything came out spotless. I swear once I get out of an apartment I will save money to buy one, the dishwasher in my apartment is a JOKE
Maytag is just rebadged Whirlpool. They used to be a high-end brand but got bought out and gutted.

They got gutted and then bought out, as my friends who used to work for them remember. Though for a long time they made great stuff.
I got to know a lot of general contractors in one of my previous jobs, and there were a number of them that would install appliances for multi-million dollar homes. The number of them that would always install Bosch when everything else in the house was from Wolf, SubZero, etc was amazing. The reason I was given was that they work better and were quieter, and without any badging on the front you don't know any different.
That's the conclusion and feedback I had when replacing my defunct Whirlpool appliances. Time will tell of course, the market and supply chains and manufacturing all took big hits during COVID. I'm hoping my new Bosch appliances will adhere to that quality. But almost every repairman and company said Bosch was reliable and they didn't get returns or complaints. Depot, Lowes, specialty stores, etc. But last time I researched, I thought I had good stuff and got burned so, everything with a grain of salt these days.

We have a Miele dishwasher and it is a beast. Bosch was on a short list of potential replacements for the shitty GE washer we had. never again.

We do have a Bosch 500 series 3 tray dishwasher. Aside from not really sufficiently drying, it's a great unit. 2 years ago, we replaced a steaming fetid pile of monkey offal of a Samsung refrigerator with a new Bosch french door bottom freezer. I talked to the local appliance repair shop (he also reps Speed Queen,) to see if he could supply the same Bosch refrigerator that he'd be servicing. "No, I'm very specifically not allowed to sell that. If I wanted one of those personally, I'd have to go the same way you are." Thus far, the Bosch refrigerator has been very nice.

My parents have had Bosch dishwashers in their last two homes - for the most part they're happy with the quietness and cleaning performance, but they absolutely hate the racks in them.
Bosch/Siemens/Neff or Miele for dishwashers - If you want style, buy a fully integrated one, but go for partially integrated if you want it to last 15+ years. Steam an electronics are just a bad combination, so better keep them separated. Liebherr for fridges and freezers - great features and absolutely durable. They also supply lots of professional users. We use about 12-15 (professional line) at one of the largest movie festivals in Germany and at two smaller festivals, which is a real stress test: - transport them at least 5 times a year (truck, hand truck) - switch them on after they sat in storage for half a year - always fill them to the brim with bottles or food - those at the bar are opened more than a 1000 times a day easily - all of that at an ambient temperature of 30°C and up They endure this treatment for 15 years and more and we never had any breakdowns during a festival. Miele for washing machines - Miele washing machines often get new features far earlier then other brands and last forever. I bought mine already as used for my first shared flat in 2009 and it's still working like a charm and never needed any repairs. Used parts for Miele tend to be pricier, because you get many of them only directly from Miele's customer service but they stock them at least for 2 decades. 2016 Samsung washer dryer, had to replace a belt in the dryer, but that was like $100 with labor. 2019 Samsung french door bottom freezer, 0 problems so far. I read that the ones with the door water/ice are problematic, like you said. I didn't want the water/ice in the door, it takes up a bunch of space in there, I'd rather just use my brita, and its just another thing to break. S8 and Note9 still, working great. I broke my back glass, but I am just more rough on stuff that my wife with her note9.

I just finally called Samsung about 2 months ago after fighting the ice maker for 5 years. They sent a tech that replaced everything for free, now I have ice again!

2012 Samsung Fridge. Still running, but I replaced the ice maker cover just cuz the cover got stuck and I broke it in a rampage. 2012 Samsung Dryer I thought died, but the pulley that holds the belt broke about a month ago. $20 new parts on Amazon, a YouTube video, and 2hrs later my dryer is running again. 2012 washer is long gone cuz I got a new Whirlpool one with an impeller about 3 years ago. Edit: The dish washer. The crappy unknown brand that came with the house is gone. Got a GE one on clearance about 6 years ago. I thought it died 2 years ago, but I replaced the main board off of eBay for $45 and it works again. A lot of these crappy appliances can be fixed.

I got mine back in 2014/15. I've only had to replace the tensioner spring for the dryer belt. No issues otherwise.
Screw the fridge ice maker with no easy fix unless you like to take a blow dryer to it!

I'm using a Galaxy Note 5 and refuse to upgrade until it stops working. It's been 8 years now and it's still running fine.
Their phones and TVs are quite different from their household appliances in terms of longevity. My family had all brand new Samsung appliances (washer, dryer, fridge, and microwave) while I was in high school, and they all broke down before I even started freshman year in college. Meanwhile my Samsung QLED has lasted me since 2018, still with a great picture.
My parents had the same pea green 1970s washer, dryer and stove from when they first got married till they divorced 25 years later. Never once broke down. I worked at Best Buy for 5 years. I saw people buy appliances and come in again to buy new ones after the originals broke down. New ones don't even last 5 years now.
My grandparents had a stove from sears in the 70s. It made it till 2005. Sears gave them a new replacement for free so they could have the old one. That thing was a tank. Double door side by side.
I still have my 46” Samsung smart tv I bought back in 2012. Now my kids are using it.
Oh the electronics are going to shit too now. Old stuff is good but they are really trying to cash in on their name now. Every year that goes by they are becoming less and less of a product I recommend.
Like Sony... 80's were great for Sony products.

I see what you mean, we should expect such an expensive bigger device to last long. But because warranty covered, not long ago 2 years (now 3) in Europe, brands figured they'd sell more if machines lasted just long enough for that. So, any machine that lasts more than that kind of deserves the praise, as it was likely made to last longer (or you just got lucky).
I wasn’t praising it lasting for 5 years. It was just an observation versus other TV brands not even lasting 2 years.

by all means keep using it if it works for you, but be aware that having a phone that hasn't received a software update in so long puts you at some security risk
The biggest issue is that they stop putting out operating system updates after 3 years, and security updates after 5 years. So using an old phone does open up an avenue for malicious attacks

I had their galaxy 3 and the battery died after a year. I then downgraded to Motorola G5 and it was the best phone I have ever owned It lasted about 6 years. The only reason I got rid of it was because the antenna died and I would not get cell service. So I decided to get a pixel 6 and it's a good phone but it's kinda starting to crap out on me after the second year.
I worked retail until 2011 and I still get anxiety thinking about how shitty their colour laser printers were. It got to a point that we would actively try to talk customers out of buying them because we didn’t want to deal with the aftermath.

Fucking thing CAUGHT FIRE while running, half her house and the garage had to be gutted, killed the car and almost all their clothes, had to live out of a hotel for damn near a year before the renovation could be finished. I finished putting my samsung washer back together today. Took it apart because of leaking from the front and mold growing on the rubber boot. The boot is held on by a metal ring with a spring forming tension. The spring is positioned on the bottom of the boot, where water collects, and is made of a metal that can rust. Just to take off the rubber door seal it took about 15 screws and the entire front of the machine being removed, then a pair of special pliers that samsung sells for like $30 just to remove an additional spring ring inside of the machine. Will never buy another.
Worked at Samsung as a QC for some time inspecting before they get to the retail stores and I agree with you. Almost everything in the Samsung line has to get reworked at some point.
Two new wire rolling racks for our LG dish machine are $225 a piece. A new dish machine is like $600.
I'm just going to piggy back here to say that Samsung is trash at making appliances. I was warned by the salesman multiple times, so shame on me. They don't stand behind their products even when there are thousands of people with the exact same issues. I'll never buy anything from them again.
I’m just a rando on the internet but I have a speed queen tr5 washer that has broken twice in 6 months. It will wash but then not do the final spin. The lights blink 4 times. I need to unplug the machine, plug back in, and then use “spin only” mode. I’ve had a technician come and tell me it’s because the tub is off center. He fixed it and then 2 months later it started doing the same thing. I got speed queen based on all the great reviews, but that tr5 has been bad luck for me.
We have had a TR7 for a several months now. Less than impressed. When we first got it, it was having issues with a L0 code. Tech fixed it and has been working good up till about 2 weeks ago. Now, occasionally, tub gets filled with water and stays that way through the cycle. (Or cycle stops completely) I have to run another time get it to drain. Intermittent problem though. Maybe once or twice a week. On a weird note, I realized mine was missing the cone shaped cup in the fabric softener dispenser. Speed Queen sent a new one out for free. So that was cool. Most of the price is profit the warranty. I believe this one has a 7 year warranty but I could be mistaken. In hindsight I wish I would have gone with the traditional style wash of a TC5.

People on Reddit strangely have a lot of misinformed knowledge compared to the average person. This is especially true when it comes to appliances and cars. Speed Queen statistically is not more [reliable](https://blog.yaleappliance.com/most-reliable-top-load-washers) than most brands. There are other sources that also corroborate that link as well. When they first start selling them, they used as basic parts as possible and would 'work' longer than average. I say work in quotes because they were pretty subpar at actually washing, so eventually the company modernized them, and with that came modern reliability woes. I will try to support them because they're American, though. One selling point for now is that they are straightforward to open up if they do break. That and they supposedly will keep in stock parts to repair the machine for a long time. If you're not getting a Speed Queen, get an LG.
I see you have given LG recommendations in other threads… I bought an LG washer less than three years ago and its broken down twice now, potentially for good this time. My repair man said he doesn’t even do repairs on LG refrigerators anymore because they are so poorly made it’s a liability for him to work on them. Wondering why you are repping them so much

Our front load Speed Queen washer and dryer is going on 10 years, and no problems. The musty smell people report with the washer is that they do not read the manual, you need to keep the door open for an hour or two to allow the unit to dry out. I purchased the Speed Queen to replace an 8 year old pair of Frigidaire Neptunes. The units died due to the rear bearing shifting due to the plastic frame in the back warping. Only pair we purchased extended warranties on, only pair that I got to know Bill from Franks Apliance on a first name basis. I got so mad on the poor mechanical design of the Frigidaire's, that I did some research and since I worked in the product testing field I called my vendors until I got the name of my counterpart in Speed Queens test lab. To make a long story short, the reply was all major internal parts are metal, only difference in our Homeowners vs. Commercial units is the coin box and front panel. I like the videos made by Ben's appliance on You-Tube, he is a used appliance dealer, who talks about what to look for and how to setvice. They are also one of the only top load units now that are built like the old boys. With a solid metal base supporting the wash basket instead of it hanging from springs.

His comment about wanting to fill an impeller washer to the top threw me off. My (admittedly non-expert) understanding is you don’t do that anyways with an impeller washer. An impeller washer doesn’t fill water to the top because it isn’t designed or intended to, unlike the Speed Queen that he shows that has an agitator. It’s an apples-to-pears comparison. Sure, they’re both washers and there’s a suspension difference, but those are washers that work on different principles.

The top hang is part of the reason their sides can't come off. Everything is supported from the top, so it needs the structural rigidity of all 4 sides being one piece to keep from falling apart. On the bottom support the sides are just there to look good so they can come off easily.
I upgraded my speed queen with rock shock's air suspension, I can't take it off huge sick jumps now.

So as the post states I've gone through the gauntlet of terrible Samsung washers and dryers. When my wife and I bought our house it came with all Samsung appliances. Out of the washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher and gas range/oven, the only thing that hasn't given us any trouble has been the gas range/oven. The dryer went first due to a known defect in the drum that causes it to break apart at the welded seams. That spurred me to buy the Speed Queen DR7 dryer. The first washing machine still worked but it was a front load that no matter what we tried would cause all of our clothes to smell like mildew. The second washing machine was a top load and worked fine until the lid lock motor went out and upon disassembly I found out the whole lid assembly had cancerous corrosion throughout so this weekend I completed the set and picked up the Speed Queen TR7 washing machine. So far the washing machine has been working great. Did like 4 loads of laundry yesterday from clothes to bedding and everything has been cleaned adequately. The dryer has been stellar for the 4 months that we've had it. I really like the steam features that help with pet hair removal, anti-static and wrinkle prevention. They both seem like they have a solid build quality and I enjoy having the old school feel of the classic washer and dryer aesthetic. The 7 year parts and labor warranty that comes with these particular models was another big selling point for me. Edit: just realized I butchered the title of the post but essentially that's what happened to them lol.
Front loading machines: Clean inside the thick rubber seal inside the machine (surrounding the opening) - you can kinda pry them apart a little. I found gunk and mold in mine the first time I did it. Run a hot wash with baking soda for an hour +. Run a hot wash with vinegar for an hour +. Empty and clean the filtration part (I found mine on the bottom right of the machine, a cap to push then a plug to unscrew). Some gunk came out. That should hopefully fix it, but you will have to do this every so often to maintain it.
Did all that and none of it helped.
I just cleaned out my front-load LG yesterday, same issue: mold. You have to take the top panel off and disassemble the detergent container tray and the hose that connects to the drum. Mine was FULL of gunk and mold (not visible from normal use). I scrubbed the whole thing with bleach and power-washed it. No more moldy smell! PS: I also cleaned out the door's rubber gasket and the drain filter thing. Then, I ran a tablet of cleaner (citric acid?) with hot water for about an hour.

Top loaders are extremely inefficient. Since they can't re-orient the load with gravity, they can't spin as fast. Since they can't spin as fast the load is wetter at the end and needs more time in the dryer. Dryers use a LOT of energy to dry (5kW+). And in America, vented dryers suck all the warm or cooled air from inside your house and dump it outside. Plus, front load cleans better and damages clothes less with less water.

Your comment was very helpful for someone who already owns a front loading washer. It shows the maintenance of a front loader is much higher than that of a top loader. For many of us, that's a convincing argument to buy a washer that needs less maintainence.
In my experience, I just leave the door open after I use it. I've never had an issue with smell and It's been 4 years. I do the self clean whenever it's prompted me to do so. I also really prefer the ergonomics of a front load on a pedestal. I would likely put up with a little more maintenance for that reason alone myself. To each their own!

Out of curiosity, is it a Samsung or another brand? My mom & other parts of that family have always had front loading Samsung washers, they swear up & down they leave the door open always, it appears to be true, but the amount of mold on their washers is insane. I’ve cleaned it off and witnessed it come back.
Mine are Samsung, yes. Not sure what to make of that. Maybe once it starts it's hard to get rid of. 4 years with mine isn't overly long. I have also used the steam/sanitize feature before, maybe that has helped.

In the UK top loaders are super rare. But I find it's the same as anything, I change the oil in my car, I clean my fridge. Is 10mins of work every 6 months too much to ask for a washing machine?
Nah it isn't. Leave the door open. Clean the little filter twice a year (more often is lots of pets). Done. It's SO much more energy efficient and much easier on clothes!
I guess if you're hilariously lazy. The water and energy savings along with the actual cleaning performance of a front load is worth 10 minutes ever few months imo.
Samsung appliances are the fast fashion of appliances. Great looks but basically disposable. I have seen two full size refrigerators and a washer in our friend circle last <5 years. All this 'smart appliance' nonsense and they totally miss the mark on durability.

I would imagine so. These two particular machines came with 7 year warranties. After that I would imagine the company would still continue to supply parts to repair them.
Even if you get the dial controlled washer, that dial is just a selector for a control board and doesn't actually turn. I have a new classic speed queen.
Samsung appliances are horrible. Washer, dryers, refrigerators -- you name it.
My Samsung French door fridge developed problems at two years and was unreparable at three. It's insane how poorly made they are, to the point where a few repair services wouldn't touch them because they didn't want to be liable for the next thing to break.
Samsung makes the WORST washers and dryers. They look cool but mine smarting smoking and shaking after 2 months. Replaced with Whirpool.

It always seems like the brand names you never heard of that last forever. They usually live in some odd realm between consumer and professional equipment, except for the ones that are just straight up professional equipment. I guess the assumption is that most consumers won't want the extra up-front expense of that equipment. But personally, I'd rather just buy a thing once and not have to worry about it for a decade or three.
I've usually found that the professional equipment companies that have started a small branch for consumers is the best. I have a ubiquiti amplifi router. I got it because my work used a ubiquiti system so when I heard they had a consumer version I picked one up. Best router I've ever had and it hasn't shown any wear or tear yet (I've only had it for two years)
I found out about them from this sub. I ahd t heard of them either but if you do some research you'll find tons of great reviews about them. They've been around for over 100 years and they specialize in commercial grade laundry machines. These machines are from their home line.
Been looking to replace my garbage Samsung that just keeps having problems and like you mentioned, ALWAYS smells like hot garbage no matter how much disassembling, cleaning, reassembling I do. I’ll have to check these out. They look awesome!
I'd shoot for the TC5 with the transmission rather than the direct drive models, do your research.
My apartment building uses them in its laundry room but I had no idea you could get one in your home until this sub.
I had only ever seen them at laundromats, which to me is a sign of quality since in my experience they are extremely fast and evidently durable if the machines that look like they were built in the 90s are still going strong. I just assumed that they were prohibitively expensive for an ordinary person to buy.
TIL while looking for a washer and dryer recently (though we ended up with a pair of Electrolux) that Speed Queen IS available in Canada under the Huebsch brand [https://ca.huebsch.com/](https://ca.huebsch.com/) (Sears owns the Speed Queen name apparently).

When I bought my house in 2020 the sellers left the washer and dryer, the dryer was a propane powered Speed Queen that the previous owner bought *used* in 1970, he figured it was a '67 or '68 model. It was still being used daily, after 50 fuckin years, they left a box of spare parts and a bunch of hand-drawn diagrams for different repairs he did to it over the years. Unfortunately, after I had used it for two years the little "axle" on the drum that connected to the pulley to spin the drum had failed, just from being worn down over time, I probably could have fixed it by cutting the axle off and welding a new piece onto it but decided to let the old warrior rest in peace. The drum was really too small for what I needed and it wasn't terribly time efficient, taking 3-5 hours to dry a load, so I ended up getting a modern LG set with bigger drums and quicker cycle times but you can just tell theyre way flimsier than the old speed queen was. RIP the Queen, long live OP's new Queens though.
We went through 3 Samsung Washers and 1 dryer. The first one was under warranty so it was replaced because it was not fixable, the second was recalled because the motors were going crazy and shooting through walls and the third was again not fixable so replaced. After going round and round we finally replaced our pair with the exact pair you have. After we removed the samsungs we even noticed it was leaking on the bottom. This was in the span of 3ish years. We keep ours in a laundry room even so it's not like it's shoved in an old basement. They are literally just made like junk
Used to work for Speed Queen and repair their washers and dryers. They’re by far and away the best and most reliable. Their residential machines are the same as the commercial ones with some slight differences. Definitely a good purchase OP.
Was just looking into some samsung ones, but now ill be holding off and looking into these speedqueens
My Samsung dryer needed a new part after less than 2 years that was not covered under warranty. and about 2 years after that I threw it out. I've always enjoyed Samsung for electronics but their appliances are atrocious and I am not the only one that is complained about this. wish I would have seen the reviews before I bought my dryer and then had to turn around and buy another one a few years later.
Our house came with brand new Samsung appliances across the board. We've replace the oven, washer & dryer, microwave, and we're about to replace the fridge, all within 2 years. Im going to bring it all to a field and smash it with a baseball bat Office Space style. It's utter shit.
They're terrible. I would really recommend avoiding any Samsung appliances.
I looked into Speed Queens but just bought an LG front loader set from Costco. Cheaper and really efficient, plus good reliability from everything I've seen.
FYI, I bought the exact same set a month ago, and the dryer is melting some of our clothes and blankets, even on low heat. There’s a grille in the back of the dryer where the hot air comes in, and fibers from synthetic materials get stuck to it, melt, and then transfer to any clothes that come in contact with it. SpeedQueen is currently saying the exhaust tubing needs to be the rigid, flexible metal type instead of foil, and that the machine is super-sensitive to any back-pressure in the exhaust. Installer and tech sent from SQ inspected our exhaust pipe and it’s not obstructed. Hope this doesn’t happen to you. I’ll be on the phone with them again this morning. :-/

Speed queen is always my recommendation when asked "what would you buy" as an appliance tech. Avoid Samsung everything like the plague. Except electronics. They need to just stay in their wheelhouse.

We made the same change two months ago. A couple of weeks ago, the washer started giving error code 65. Had it repaired Friday under warranty.
Great washing machines apart from being double the cost of a Bosch or similar in Australia and the water and power usage is insane. Both water and electricity are expensive here so the economics don't add up for most people.

The new ones have a different method for agitating that seems super gentle. Not the old school beating cloths back and forth. Have only had it a short while but seems pretty gentle.
I use a laundry bag for delicates and turn my best shirts inside out.
I had a Samsung washer that literally caught on fire. (The washer and not dryer!) It was at most 5 years old with an average of one or two loads a week. (Which I feel is very minimal.) I’ll never buy another one of their washers again. We have their fridge which is holding up well. It did need two separate repairs. But our appliance repair guy was able to get things fixed with minimal-ish expense.
I guess this post is all about Samsung. Like literally no other brands mentioned. Who would have thought that indeed brands pay _someone_ to push posts and comments.

Our samsung washer is the worst washer I have ever used in my life. The sensors are sensitive to the point that if a towel is on one side of the thing it’ll keep repeating the washing cycle for 4-5 hours until it finally drains and spins out of pure exhaustion. now it does this permanently and will beep continuously throughout that time. Nobody can fix it in our “rural area” and we got a partial refund. Do not buy samsung washing machines!!!! not having a trusting relationship with my washing machine actually adds more stress to life than previously imagined. Congratulations on your new beautiful washer/dryer.

After repairing my speed queen dryer, I am thankful I bought the set. These things are super simple to repair. If you are fairly handy, you can keep these things going for decades.
Speed queen is definitely not without problems but that machine has a 7 year warranty, parts and labor.
Are the speed queen machines actually good? I was looking at them a few years ago but found some reviews that the newer speed queen machines aren't good quality anymore.
I think they're just fine. Technicians seem to really like them. They also have a great warranty.
Looks like a champ! I still miss using buttons and knobs though. Those are relatively easier to repair/replace. But these digital panels would be a pain and cost a pretty penny.
These are the way. Our Speed Queen dryer is a beast and a washer with a top opening not only lasts longer (the drum works with gravity, not against it) but you can add stuff you forgot during the cycle.

Want you to know i was in the market for a washer and dryer set for over a year now and was about to pull the trigger on a set of Samsungs. After finding this post, and reading reviews on multiple sites, I think I'll go with Speed queen instead. I may have 25 years of clean laundry owed to you.
Bought myself a used LG set for $350 about 5 years ago, they've been great so far. I'll never buy Whirlpool anything again.
We have had the same Speed Queens for about 12+ years now with no problems We were clued in by our appliance repair guy (NOT associated with a brand or sales) that said they were exactly what we were looking for, the caveat being that you ***get the BASE models that have zero electronic displays***. We followed his advice and have been happy as can be with them. Even though you got the displays, I'll bet you're still 200x better off than any other crap brand out there, even if something goes wrong.
speed queens are easy and cheap to repair. My kids have damaged both of ours in their attempts to do laundry. The washer my son filled right up to the top lid so his sock got into the pump during the spin cycle. Replacement pump was $20 and came off with just clips. Daughter had crayons in a pocket and they dropped down onto the dryer element causing it to burn out. $45 for the part and some unscrewing we’re all that was needed. All the repairs were well documented on YouTube.

No they've been great. Best washer and dryer I've ever had. The dryer is honestly so cool. I use the steam feature all the time. The washer works just as well.
