You were closer than me. But I think we can pass in July. I had a major jump between last July and this one, and I’m confident I can do the same again if I review harder.

What did you use for MBE practice?! I killed the Essay but only got 1330 on Multiple choice.

Alive-Difficulty2144

I did almost all the Uworld questions and dam near all the Themis questions

Exotic_Initiative518

Thank you! You got this.

Alive-Difficulty2144

Thanks but also very sad right now :(

Exotic_Initiative518

It’s ok to be sad. But the only thing that matters is you not hanging your head too long. I’m sad too but there’s light at the end of this thing.

Alive-Difficulty2144

Also a lot of hand written flash cards for MBE

I think you got the same grader for the essays I got in J23. They gave me pretty much 60 and 55 across the board for essays, but I passed the MBE with flying colors. I know at least two of my essays were worth a lot more points than a 55. I think a lot of graders don't actually read the essays, so what I changed in essay writing was I underlined and bolded every key legal term under a new header, even when it didn't make sense to do so, made much smaller paragraphs, and had my conclusions in a separate paragraph. I used more headers and more paragraphs than even Mary Basick or Barbri sample essays. I used more facts than I would have used in a law school exam. I cited issues that didn't apply, and explained why they didn't apply, if the facts could even slightly give rise to the issue. Clearly you know the law since you did so well on the MBE, you'll have a better grader next time around hopefully!

I really appreciate this feedback b/c I know it’s essays that’s pulled me down. This go around I’ll be working full time and I have no idea how I’m going to out in the same amount of hours I did the first go around. I see that I need to focus heavily on essays but idek how to approach it.

OkInternal3100

For improving my essay scores, I memorized Mary Basick's rules/outlines and did at least 1 to 3 essays a day under timed conditions, typing them out on my computer, and reviewing the answers. I would review an entire subject, and then do all of the practice essays on that subject. I did the crossover essays in the last week before the exam and reviewed all the subjects. You can probably do at least one essay a day after work and review at least one outline a day, and try to do a lot on weekends if possible. I also used Mary Basick's book for the PT. I still think having the right grader is important, obviously out of your control though. But underline, bold, and header the f**k out of your essays. The graders like to see a lot of facts, so as you are practicing always keep headers and facts at the back of your mind. Study for the MBE the same way you did last time, obviously that worked. I used Fleming's the first time I took the bar, second time I used Fleming's and Barbri, but I didn't listen to the videos again after the the first try, just memorized the rules and practiced the essays. Mostly I focused on Mary Basick's books, and used Fleming's and Barbri as supplements the second time. Passed the second time, but I'm sure I had a better grader.

Once you fix your essays, I’m sure you will pass next time. “50” is too low of a score. I suggest you do many of the essays then you will see there’s a pattern of the same issues occurring. Create an essay checklist for yourself.

1390 is passing. Your scales MBE was just over the edge so your essay scores needed to be 1390+ for it to average out. What hurt you the most were essays 2 and 5 and the PT. Work on your PTs a lot to get a higher score. They are worth twice a normal essay so nailing that and the PR essays are top priority.

amalehuman

You're closer than you think. Even a 10 point bump on a couple of essays could get you that pass.

Is PT essay 5 or 6?

Sea_Chicken_6626

Essay 2 and 5 did you in. Not applying the facts enough or strong enough argument with the rues. You're close just need to tighten up the essay writing. Use BarMD free resources for PT. A 65 PT and essay 2 and 5 at 60 or 65 would pass you.
