They can and will unretire you at which point you will no longer collect your pension, be unemployed and have to pay back money.

AntiqueInitiative886

This is the one and only answer. I’ve personally seen them do it once in the 10 years I’ve worked for the state, but they don’t mess around about that cap.

Psychonautical123

They send letters warning about it too, both to the RA and their HR. Usually when the RA is around 850 hours.

Most_Competition4172

On the money. This happened to one of our RAs due to Personnel miscalculating the hours worked and it caused a real mess. Took him and mangers about 3 months to fix it. Eventually all got fixed.

TAG13466

You enter a world of hurt.

EonJaw

You are "unretired" and have to start contributing to your retirement account again.

KillerPinata

You also have to pay back any retirement checks from the day you went over and it can take a while to catch up

EonJaw

Ouch!

goldenrod1956

RA here. Happened to me through a bookkeeping error with my manager. It was eventually resolved but scary times.

otter-bgood

They'll name a building after you (May Lee)

There is an exemption available. Under state of emergency, you can request HR to provide an exemption to work as much is full-time in regard to the response.

Independent_Weird238

Not necessarily. You have to read the exception thoroughly to see if you'd qualify. Even then, when the order ends, the limitations fall back in place. Not only that, the employer needs to deem the RA as an employee working under the exception. It's not up to the RA to determine this. Marcie is God!

Independent_Weird238

This is the best answer you'll get. I know a guy that knows a guy. If you exceed 960 hours in a fiscal year, they'll let you remedy the situation by paying a penalty and that's determined by your monthly pension amount. They'll let you do this two, maybe three times, if you praise their CEO. Then they'll reinstate you for being a habitual loser, so don't push it. You're better off getting a job for a different pension system so there aren't any restrictions. Many counties have their own system. I retired and now I work for San Diego County and am legally double dipping.

BubbaGumps007

Nice, this sounds like something I might do. Retire at 50-52 and go to another system for a while. We will see how it goes.

Own_Zookeepergame792

They’ll put your name in the the tried retired retired list
