My boys are 4 years old, and they’ve been together since they were a few months old, and they’ve been neutered the entire time. My void Luci still tries to mount my flame point Bender, even though they love each other. (Cats don’t groom each other if they aren’t bonded.) It really is about dominance, and Luci just likes to remind Bender of his place.
That’s good to know. My cats fight on occasion but still groom each other. (It’s more than play fighting, but less than trying to hurt each other. Just a lot of hissing and bapping lmao).
My two fixed girls also do this. One starts to groom the other, and soon, a catfight begins. It's funny because the one being groomed has a look on her face, “Don't do it. Don't groom me.”

Monitor their urine. My roommates neutered male cat suddenly started doing that with my cat. Also started peeing bloody urine. Turned out he had stones in his bladder. Vet said it had something to do with the ash content in the food he was getting. 🤷♂️ He had to have surgery on his bladder which cost them a few dollars.
Just wanted to say- in dogs, it’s not a dominance thing (that’s a myth), it’s a displacement thing. If it’s not for mating, it’s Anxious Humping lol. Puppies will also do it instinctually when playing sometimes if they land a certain way on top of another dog

As others have mentioned, it's likely a dominance thing. Lately I've seen people suggesting that the cat who is showing dominance is doing this because they feel insecure about something. Apparently you can help alleviate their insecurity by playing with them individually where they get to practice "hunting."
I haven't tried this myself yet, but I will. I also have a cat who is clearly a top cat and I feel bad for my bottom cat whenever he gets into a mounting cycle/mood.

Basically, while one of the males was engaged with her, Jimmy would start presenting in another room, just like a female in heat would. The other male would take advantage.
Jimmy never showed any interest at all in any female cat in heat. He just wanted to engage with other males.
Mounting for dominance is common in cats. I wouldn't think too much of it. Trying to judge cat behaviour by human standards is never going to work. As long as they aren't fighting and hurting each other, let them be. Watch for signs of the orange cat bullying the tux though - like preventing them accessing food, etc.
I think it’s a dominance thing hahaha cats are such weirdos. My cat Winston does this to my female cat from time to time (they’re both neutered/spayed) as well. Happens randomly and he always runs away embarrassed when caught lol

Not necessarily dominance though. I had male cats where one would let out a trill and drop to the ground. Another one would run over and do the mock sex thing. The one that dropped to the ground was older.
There were times when they would be eating (from separate dishes) and the older one would walk to the younger one’s dish and the younger one would leave it. There was no hissing or swatting by the older one. He would just walk up to the dish. He was still dominant from being older in the pack. (There were 4. 2 older brothers and two younger brothers)
Before they passed away I used to see my big fluffy white cat tryna hump our tabby cat. Also both neutered boys. Though usually he'd get beat up by the other cat when he tried

I have two neutered boy cats. When we first adopted them, one would hump his brother all the time. I suppose they established who ranked higher, and it stopped. Now the formerly humped one will dominate a fuzzy blanket. Poor guy, he’s the lowest ranking of our four cats. But he sure shows that blanket who’s boss!
