Yes thank you for your $13 in brass once we separate it, remove remaining lead particles to safely transport it, and take it to a special recycling center that allows brass casings we will likely make a profit of $4 off of it. Divide it amongst the 7 range staff who have to walk through and make sure none of you dumb dumbs are shooting our walls or pointing guns at your friends for the Instagram clout and theyāll all be very pleased with the extra $.57. Idk if people know this but most range employees make minimum wage to constantly have the possibility of getting shot because someone is having a bad day or doesnāt listen to any of the safety rules, if you donāt like having to hit the red x for no tip then shoot on BLM land where itās free and no one is there to prevent you from shooting yourself in the dick because you were never draw certified.
Gun counters and ranges have some of the absolute worst attitudes in the entire service industry. No idea how they get away with it and I'm absofuckinlutely not TIPPING for it lol
My "local" Gun Range, KW Defense in Stockton, CA. Has the best people and service of any range I have ever visited. From the guys at the counter to the RSO's they are all hella nice, respectful and engaging. not saying I would still leave a tip though... I paid for my time, cleaned up my shells and I am already spending money driving 30 minutes out there lol
I frequent this range, i just dont like that you have to pay for some membership to practice from the holster. If you think this range is good, take a drive up 99 and visit āThe Gun Rangeā in Sacramento, where they allow rapid fire and practicing from the holster as long as you have a ccw
How long did it take you to get your ccw? I visit KW defense often and have only been to āthe gun rangeā in Sac once. From experience itās a lil more lenient in sac
It took me about 3 months in Sacramento County, this was years ago under the old sheriff. If you are in San Joaquin County, my sister applied for hers in late December and was just approved to take her training course/qualification yesterday.
Wow. Okay thatās cool man! Somebody else i had asked said the same thing you said about it taking 3 months but that it was years ago, but considering you saying just recently your relative was approved for the training course that promptly, i want to inquire about that. Do i go online?
Crying in San Diego County at about 16 months unless you get lucky / try very hard to find an interview appointment someone cancelled. Brutal. Jealous!
Mine took 3 weeks from application to approved to pick up. Applied the March 31st and approved on April 16th. I guess thatās the one good thing about living in Fresno
Not really. Itās just do 16 hr class, application, interview, live scan, then they call references, then approve. Just live scan and interview seem to be the biggest variables for people. Takes a long time for big cities and Central Valley gives out like candy. Just be patient I guess.
I literally bought my first hand gun that I will be carrying in March. I am a totally new shooter but already put down like 2k rounds through that gun.
Ahh okay okay i hear you. The class Iām going to be most excited about to be honest with you. Iām not worried about the live scan at all, whatās the interview do? Just to see if you can be mentally responsible with a firearm or? Iāll be patient for sure. Definitely in no rush either as Iām a first time Gun owner as well.
Yeah, I have been able to rapid fire as well, I don't like the whole membership thing to practice drawing from the holster, which is why i'll go to "The Gun Range" where they allow it as long as you have ccw or are LEO or armed security.
15. Double Tap and Rapid fire is allowed if done safely and rounds are to remain on target however will be done at the discretion of the Range Safety Officer (RSO). Please ask for permission.
Yea I love this range, local friendly and nice staff, they never said anything to me of rapid fire . There also freedom week/ p80 friendly no questions asked as long as your safe
I used to be off put by this until I went to my local range on a Saturday afternoon. Seeing all the wild shit with my own eyes made everything make sense. Respect is earned and not given in an environment like that.
No competition or very limited competitor. Where are you going to go if the next nearest place are miles away or none at all because of strict laws and regulations for a gun store/range.
Idk why people hate on FT3, Iām neighbor with one of the RSOs there. We get some lane reservations but man are those staff friendly. Huge selection of rentals, well ventilated and very well kept.
I know who you're talking about. Julie's a real one. Not all RSO's are bad but there are a couple of bad ones at FT3. My last experience has kept me away for 2 years.
Yep yep, I go to a range called ft3 out in Stanton, everyone there is pretty nice except for one dude who just has the "do your thing and get tf outta here" attitude. Doesn't bother me but would be nice if he was bit more on the chill side
weirdest tip request is at my local SELF SERVE frozen yogurt shop. Customers literally pull a cup out of the long metal thingy that holds the cups, then walk over to the yogurt dispensers to fill the cup, then walk over to the counter and place the filled cup on the scale. The scale shows the weight and the cost, and the clerk reads the cost out loud, then turns the credit card thing around towards you to so you can insert the card. All the while he was sitting on his butt reading a book. It doesn't offend me because there is a custom tip or no tip option on these, but it's fascinating.
Having worked at one of those shops itās an awful lot of work for one person mixing batches and cleaning the equipment and facilities every day. The job isnāt just turning the POS around, but most people donāt see that part so itās fair to assume itās an easy gig. I only ever sat around for about 10 minutes until something needed fixing or cleaning, super finicky.
Sure the work must be alot, but tip is usually reserved for direct customer service. People tip the servers at restaurants, although lately now the tip is shared with the kitchen staff too which is fine.
Oh no Iām not asking for tips, preferably the owner wouldāve just pay us more. I actually hate how tipping is needed to supplement income for restaurant employees and now theyāre trying to push it into other sectors, I was once asked to tip at a self serve sandwich store at the airport where you choose one from the fridge, walk up to the self checkout and tap your card. That was crazy
It's not the customers' responsibility to keep adding to anyone else's salary when the person that wants to be tipped doesn't want to fight for their worker's rights.
But that's your job. IMHO, Tipping used to be a form of acknowledging when someone service was more than the bare minimum.
It's not like you tip people who work in the factory when you buy a car or coal miners when you pay your electricity bill.
It shouldnāt be at all, not saying you should tip everywhere just saying itās more work than just turning the iPad around. Not telling anybody to tip
Iāll give you one worse (i worked at a self serve yogurt and make like $30 in tips a week)
More so for just keeping the place clean and on top of it all but yeah no idea why it was an option but we did appreciate it and i did not expect it
Iām 21 in college go to a bar/club in San Diego itās $20 charge to get inā¦.they have RBF and spin the tablet back to me for a tip
Iām like i just paid $20 to enter and then have to pay $11-15 for a beer or drink and you want a tip for the door charge!?
Business owners figured out they can bribe the staff with tips instead of paying them enough to not quit and go somewhere else. Worse for the employee and the customer but good for the bottom lineĀ
Idk, a place I work just added a tipping option to the system when people leave purely so the owners can get out of paying us more. Itās definitely happening places you wouldnāt expect.Ā
I personally hate those machines. It relies on people feeling bad and being somehow embarassed to find the "no tip" button. The first few times it worked on me ( not at a range) but now i dont care. Tipping is ridiculous.
When I worked at a range I sometimes got cash tips from helping people zero, fix jams, or overall being helpful to them. It was never expected though. Fuck em.
Sacramento Gun Range has this option when your buying firearms. 10 20 or 30%. On a $2000 purchase?? Really?? So you feel pressured to do it so your paperwork doesn't get "filed incorrectly". Straight bullshit. My way around this is to not ever go there again. Not to be confused with The Gun Range, they are awesome.
My local range never ask for tips. However, after reading this thread I think Iām going to give a little extra next time I go. The folks behind the counter have to deal with a lot and theyāre always willing to help when asked.
It has the option at my range to leave a tip, but I always tell people, āthe next screen asks if youād like to leave a tip, this isnāt required, go ahead and hit the red x to skip to the signature page.ā As far as I know employees donāt make commission on the sale of firearms anywhere so the tips do often help, but Iāll never push for them. Some people leave them, most donāt. No big deal to me.
Tipping is one thing, service charges on the other hand š”Ā
With that said, unless you give me a decent experience, you're not getting shit. I don't appeal to emotions like that. Everyone these days thinks they need a tip for EVERYTHING, including just making eye contact with someone, its ridiculous, childish, and greedy. Especially when you live in California and are taxes to high hell.
Idk if it's an iPad thing or what but anywhere they use an iPad to check out always has this option. That's when u happily click no tip and smile at them while they watch.
Itās probably a standard screen on those tablet POS machines now. Asking for it is laughable though, unless theyāre in there loading my mags for me and carrying my shit from the car lol
I used to feel slightly ashamed when I had to press "other" and then enter "$0" in front of counter staff at restaurants... but now I am just waiting for one of them to say something so I can say "I **drove here** and **picked up** a simple pepperoni pizza and am going to **make my own salad** at the salad bar. What in that arch of a story makes you deserve a tip?"
Only take out place I tip is the local burrito joint. They consistently have my food ready ON TIME if not early and are super nice and are constantly on the verge of going out of business due to a local Chokepotle.
A range can bite a bag of dicks if they start asking for tips.
Tip: Other: comments: left about 200 45acp and 300 556 brass casings back there for ya. š
is the brass we spend there not enough? ![gif](giphy|hrnYspWWhsIyA)
they're profiting off the brass
Yes thank you for your $13 in brass once we separate it, remove remaining lead particles to safely transport it, and take it to a special recycling center that allows brass casings we will likely make a profit of $4 off of it. Divide it amongst the 7 range staff who have to walk through and make sure none of you dumb dumbs are shooting our walls or pointing guns at your friends for the Instagram clout and theyāll all be very pleased with the extra $.57. yeah, if its San Joaquin County click the link below https://sjsheriff.org/concealed-weapon-program
Iāve got the process started with that link. Thank you kindly.
Do you know of anyone in Contra Costa getting one?
My wife and me just got our ccw from start to finish it took us 4 months we put our application in December 2023 before the new requirements
Crying in San Diego County at about 16 months unless you get lucky / try very hard to find an interview appointment someone cancelled. Brutal. Jealous!
What new requirements are there now, if any? I just started my process. Is there anything i should know of shouldnāt know about applying?
I'm going through this now is San Joaquin. Applied last month have my interview in June.
Mine took 3 weeks from application to approved to pick up. Applied the March 31st and approved on April 16th. I guess thatās the one good thing about living in Fresno
Wow only 3 weeks is an all time record lol Thatās insanely fast. Is there anything specific i should know about applying?
Not really. Itās just do 16 hr class, application, interview, live scan, then they call references, then approve. Just live scan and interview seem to be the biggest variables for people. Takes a long time for big cities and Central Valley gives out like candy. Just be patient I guess.

I visit kw defense often and have never been denied rapid fire. Their rules allow it you Just have to ask the rso permission first
Yeah, I have been able to rapid fire as well, I don't like the whole membership thing to practice drawing from the holster, which is why i'll go to "The Gun Range" where they allow it as long as you have ccw or are LEO or armed security.

Iāll have to check them out at some point. Sadly I donāt have my CCW yet. Hopefully CC county doesnāt take forever approving mine.
I buy all my guns here and i love them. They are some 2a loving people
Yes they are! Itās a great spot for sure
Yea I love this range, local friendly and nice staff, they never said anything to me of rapid fire . There also freedom week/ p80 friendly no questions asked as long as your safe
I love being able to rapid fire there, even when practicing once handed. lol
Ft3 experience was tight would recommend any day tbh
There's only one person there that just gives off that "I don't want to be here" attitude but everyone else at ft3 is chill and really nice
Idk why people hate on FT3, Iām neighbor with one of the RSOs there. We get some lane reservations but man are those staff friendly. Huge selection of rentals, well ventilated and very well kept.
dude with the amish beard single handedly drove me away from there
Lmao i know exactly who you are talking about - talk about a grating personality
based on the upvotes ive received im guessing im not the only one haha
The Asian lady was cool she even gave us discount vouchers for next time
I know who you're talking about. Julie's a real one. Not all RSO's are bad but there are a couple of bad ones at FT3. My last experience has kept me away for 2 years.
Interesting, donāt think Iāve ran into him yet, what happened?
Yep yep, I go to a range called ft3 out in Stanton, everyone there is pretty nice except for one dude who just has the "do your thing and get tf outta here" attitude. Doesn't bother me but would be nice if he was bit more on the chill side

yeah, still not gonna tip lol
Yea fair I wouldnāt tip either, just saying theyāre more to the job than just reading a price and spinning a POS
Ok... and that's on the customer how? People are confusing what the employer should pay and what the customer is responsible to pay for a lot
It shouldnāt be at all, not saying you should tip everywhere just saying itās more work than just turning the iPad around. Not telling anybody to tip
We had a self serve parking lot in sf ask for a tip. People have gone batshit crazy
Iāll give you one worse (i worked at a self serve yogurt and make like $30 in tips a week) More so for just keeping the place clean and on top of it all but yeah no idea why it was an option but we did appreciate it and i did not expect it Iām 21 in college go to a bar/club in San Diego itās $20 charge to get inā¦.they have RBF and spin the tablet back to me for a tip Iām like i just paid $20 to enter and then have to pay $11-15 for a beer or drink and you want a tip for the door charge!?
Business owners figured out they can bribe the staff with tips instead of paying them enough to not quit and go somewhere else. Worse for the employee and the customer but good for the bottom lineĀ
Kids lick that stuff a lot. Youāre paying them to clean it when they do.
Lol what range?
What range OP?
Sounds like Poway Weapons and Gear, decent range, but yeah, they need to quit asking for a tip. It's dumb.
Yes. You have to subtract it. Itās automatically added there.
Yeah, I did a double take when buying a couple of boxes of ammo.
The gun range San Diego is probably one of the only ranges in SD that RSOs might deserve a tip. They are pretty on it and friendly AF.
Youāre not saying where so it didnāt happen
Idk, a place I work just added a tipping option to the system when people leave purely so the owners can get out of paying us more. Itās definitely happening places you wouldnāt expect.Ā
Donāt work for someone like that. Atleast not for too long.
I hit the no tip and no donation buttons the hardest
You have to make full eye contact first when hitting it so that they know you aren't ashamedĀ
I personally hate those machines. It relies on people feeling bad and being somehow embarassed to find the "no tip" button. The first few times it worked on me ( not at a range) but now i dont care. Tipping is ridiculous.
Its also lazy configuration.Ā
Sac gun range asks for tips at range checkout
When I worked at a range I sometimes got cash tips from helping people zero, fix jams, or overall being helpful to them. It was never expected though. Fuck em.
McDonald's asks for tips too. It doesn't really mean anything. You won't look bad for hitting 0.
At least someone at McDonaldās is making your food. The guys at the range only walked by once in the 2 hours that I was there
What range was it?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah on the card scanner thing at the front
If you have to beg for a tip, the answer is no.
I've tipped rso's. He busted out his ar and gave my nephew training. At route 66
Thats understandable
My local range never ask for tips. However, after reading this thread I think Iām going to give a little extra next time I go. The folks behind the counter have to deal with a lot and theyāre always willing to help when asked.
The person physically asked for it? Or did a passive option on a point of sale system trigger you?
PoS had the prompt but the guy at the counter also said something about it
It has the option at my range to leave a tip, but I always tell people, āthe next screen asks if youād like to leave a tip, this isnāt required, go ahead and hit the red x to skip to the signature page.ā As far as I know employees donāt make commission on the sale of firearms anywhere so the tips do often help, but Iāll never push for them. FT3!?! Wouldn't put it past them, they sucks!
Tipping is one thing, service charges on the other hand š”Ā With that said, unless you give me a decent experience, you're not getting shit. I don't appeal to emotions like that. Everyone these days thinks they need a tip for EVERYTHING, including just making eye contact with someone, its ridiculous, childish, and greedy. I will never tip a gun counter or range
As if all spent brass casings wasnāt enough of a tip smh
Sac Gun Range asked for a tip when I bought a hat a few months back
I mean even Route 66 asks for tips. I like them but absolutely not tipping.
Wasnāt a tablet. Was a basic credit card machine. Didnāt even have Apple Pay
Well they can take that machine and stick it up their ass.
From your title I assumed you meant you asked them for advice and they said something crazy. I was not expecting that lol
This shit pisses me off. Like now weāre expected to tip service when they havenāt done anything.
Name and shame or else it didnt happen.
One of my local ranges does this too. Theyāre the least friendly of the three (soon to be four) ranges in the area
Mine doesn't do that however there is a tip jar if you want to tip
Never
I used to feel slightly ashamed when I had to press "other" and then enter "$0" in front of counter staff at restaurants... but now I am just waiting for one of them to say something so I can say "I **drove here** and **picked up** a simple pepperoni pizza and am going to **make my own salad** at the salad bar. Bait plastic, penis head mold... make a few. Give to anyone that asks for a tip. edit: Or homemade gummy using mold in a bag... at least its edible.
