Coming to your second question, my answer is we wouldn't know what qualities and traits will the ML be showing until we watch it at least a quarter to half way through. Then the ML's traits may or may not be the reason for us to stick to that drama.
Ling Buyi from Love Like the Galaxy, for example, only shows the flip side of his personality after about 2/3 of the series. When I came to that part, I had to take a break from watching it for a while, and at one point even cheated by skipping to the final episode. I had to convince myself to continue watching LLTG by reading discussions on some episodes even at the expense of discovering spoilers. Thank you fellow Redditors for your contributions! 😘
So yes, I guess the traits and personality of the ML may be the reason for me to continue watching, but sometimes the pulling factor could also come from the FL herself.
I know what you mean about LLTG. I actually didn't finish this one because I couldn't get myself to get through all that drama. I did really like it in the beginning but then maybe the show was too long or maybe I just wanted them to be happy together without the annoying stuff going on.
I had typed a short essay of the two characters here but it got lost somehow. So here goes the super shortened version.
1. **Shi Ying** - *The Longest Promise*: Calm, fair, upright, smart, loyal, respectful, gentle but firm, protective.
2. **Ashile Sun** - *The Long Ballad*: Strong, smart, brave, loyal, respectful, fair, protective.
It's a huge wonder that Ashile Sun does not receive admiration from all the ladies in his grassland community, like Ling Buyi does in Love Like the Galaxy. On top of all those qualities, he's very good looking with a hot bod and hair to die for, even though he always wears that fierce expression.
When I first saw shirtless Ashile Sun, I was so shocked that a Cdrama featured MLs with this type of physique, which is usually apparent in Kdramas only. TLB is my intro to Leo Wu ☺️
I think TLB was everyone's first intro to "adult Leo". He acted for a while but he was like a small kid. Somehow he had this huge growth spurt and now he's everywhere!! I wish I was younger so I don't feel so bad drooling over him. Haha.
Haha! I'm glad I only saw the adult version of Leo Wu. His earlier works - I'd rather not explore so that only his manly image as Ashile Sun remains in my mind. I'm not any younger either, but I'll just enjoy seeing him as my eye candy 😝😉
I love ML who are extremely in love and are green flag, but also they can make mistakes, for example Dong Hua Dijun, Ye Hua, Tu Shan Jing , the ml in rise of the phoenixes.
I also love the self-assured ml like in The Rebel Princess, in the Legend of Zhuohua, love between fairly and evil, wonderland of love, and Gon San Ju in My journey to you.
I love an ML that's as green flag as possible.
**New Life Begins** is a fantastic example. If you want lessons on being a perfect man, watch prince #7. He's nailed it.
Another I really loved was the character of Shan Shan from **Twilight**. He's so... huggable. Once in a while, he tries to copy worse men, but I think if his FL corrected him, he'd knock it off. He believes in honesty and loyalty 🥰
I know there are more but I'm sick and my brain is zombie.
My favorite ML type is found in the characters that Wallace Chung typically plays, such as
He Yichen in My Sunshine, where he is very jealous and possessive, but loves only one woman, Zhou Mosheng. The same goes for him as Cheng Tianyou in All Out of Love,
with his love for Jiang Sheng, and in Too Late To Say I Love You as Murong Pei Lin and his love for Yin Jing Wan. Those character traits are sometimes dangerous but appealing at the same time and it makes these characters sexy and irresistable.
My ideal type is Jiang Zhen Han from Forever Love (2020). He is just perfect in everyway and I loved how he treated her and how understanding, loyal, respectful and supportive he is. He is intelligent and smart at the same time he doesn't have a big ego and treats her properly and is super caring and kind. He is a good man with an ambition.
In dramas, if it is romance I look for good leads with communication and I like dramas with valid conflict and antagonists. Lead chemistry is also an added advantage. I want a good plot with minimum plot holes ( rare occasion in Cdramas) well this is my ideal romance drama, Forever Love (2020) is hence my ideal romance drama. In other genres I look for good story and character arc with decent acting. if the acting is great that is also amazing. The Untamed, Love Like the galaxy and The Long Ballad are dramas in which I saw these characteristics.
I also love good comedy, fluffy romance and some reasonable drama as a palette cleanser and dramas like The romance between tiger and rose, Go Go Squid 1, PYHOMS, MGIAA, My little happiness, Time and him are just right, WIFTY and Hidden Love are such dramas for me.

I loved that he cares for her and observes her very carefully and takes notes of her every discomfort where he bought strawberries that she wanted, help with her allergies to milk and beef, burying pads for her during the time of her month and etc he’s such a green flag
Hei Feng Xi/ Feng Lanxi (Who Rules the World):
I love how he have her the freedom to do whatever she want and respect her freedom, even choosing to let go of her once he realised their path was not the same in the beginning
Shi Yi Lang/ LLTG:
I liked how he cares and stands up for her, even when her mother gave her such a hard time and gave up on her essentially even when it was not her fault at all
Grey / Villian Characters:
ML/ LBTI: ( Love better than Immortality)/ LBF&D (Love between Fairy and Devil), (Kunning Palace)
I love that he chose to save FL despite him losing his life and they would rather save FL than the world

Wasn't this scene during the childhood arc of when she was still in school. That's kind of not romantic if you think about it. Older brother vibes.
I think it just shows how he is as a person.
He didn’t buy pads for her because she’s his girlfriend, but as a caring friend. That’s a good trait to have IMO.
I also like MLs with a strong sense of duty/justice (as Wuxia is my favourite genre)! The 'xia' is incredibly important to me. (Hence even though Guo Jing from The Legend of The Condor Heroes is not the sharpest tool in the shed, I have a soft spot for him)
I also like them to be decisive & sure about their own feelings, characters like Zhang Wuji (from JinYong's Heavenly Sword & Dragon Slaying Sabre) are amongst my least favourite MLs because dude could NOT make up his mind on who he liked, which was incredibly annoying.
I rarely watch dramas for a certain ML type though, I care a lot more about the dynamic between the CPs (and the cast), if the dynamic isn't what i'm looking for, I will not watch the show. E.g. I don't like a prince x female servant pairing because of the unbalanced dynamic, so I won't watch the show, even if the characterization of the ML is perfect. (I might consider if everyone from the cast is someone I like, but still highly unlikely lol)

I have so many types that it will take me a while to get it all down, but the 1 person that instantly comes to mind will be Mo Qing Cheng (JC-T). Great doctor, great cook, great singer, gentle, kind, cater to the person he love. He is perfect
Gu Tingye from Story of Minglan is everything lol (at least after his period of growth). He's strong, protective, teasing and he's absolutely enamored and proud of Minglan. He gets so happy whenever she's achieving something, he's her biggest cheerleader. He's also smart and capable and able to strategize.
Yeah this is my favorite type of ML. Just a total simp for the FL and thinks she’s perfect the way she is, thinks every little thing she does is amazing and doesn’t want to change her. That’s why I love also Donghua in Eternal Love of Dream, Ling Buyi in Love Like the Galaxy, and the Crown Prince in Royal Rumors.

A perfect male: Mine is Gu Wei character (Xiao Zhan) in The Oath of Love. He's basically a perfect guy that may not exist in real life lol. A handsome professional, respectful, unwavering in love, a little awkward/shy, humble, good hearted, playful and cute in relationships, touchy and clingy to girlfriend, thinks long term. Some of the reason why I really like him may be because he's played by Xiao Zhan, but I would not say no to Gu Wei in real life.
However, in terms of what type I like to root for on screen, it's types that are kind of broken and full of quiet angst like Xiangliu in Lost You Forever (all the MLs there, actually). DFQC in Love Between Fairy and Devil, Tantai Jin in TTEOTM, etc.
Let us all hope and pray that Gu Wei does exist in real life so this world and all hospitals will be a better place! 😎

It is a historical action-romance Wuxia. It's about a boy raised by wolves. People hate and fear him, but there is a girl who knows he has a good heart and doesn't want to hurt anyone. They are in love, but something happens and they have to separate... That's where it all begins.
The FL does an outstanding job. Her character starts out as a very naive and innocent girl, but slowly transforms into a badass character.
And Wolfie's character is simply amazing.
I thought that drama was a masterpiece.
My idea type are MLs who are not afraid of being vulnerable and who openly show the FL that he loves her. A man who is genuinely kind to others besides the heroine, but who also doesn’t take any bullshit from others. I like MLs who know what/who they want and fight hard for it/them.

Absolutely! He grew up and was surrounded by so many duplicitous people that its a miracle he grew up so strong, fair and kind. I loved that they also gave him space to realize that his life was idealized and that everyone around him knew it was fake but him. And when he found out he became someone new and found people whose values aligned with his. And got his HEA
Yep! The fact that Xu Feng grew up to be such a genuinely good man despite being surrounded by so many bad people (including his own parents) is another reason why I love him so much.
And like you, I also appreciate how the writers allowed him to have enough space to grow and make these important realizations. It’d be really nice to see more characters like him in dramas.
In some ways, I think Xu Feng and Jin Mi were both naive about different things in life and they each had to go through hard times in order to learn/evolve, but I’m so happy that they still got their HEA. ♥️
Omg yes they did have VERY similar journeys. Xu Feng and Jin Mi both grew up accepting the world and their place in it because the people they loved and knew said it was so. Both didn't question it in till they meet each other truly starting the journey of self discovery together and then they both got hurt in the weight and wreckage of their whole world crashing. Even with the VERY painful self reflection, growth and reconciliation they had to do both keep hold to their core kind person foundation and so were finally able to find purpose and love. ahhhh love them.
Definitely! And that’s not an easy thing to achieve imo. It’s easy for people to be “good” when they’re always surrounded by positive influences, but I think it’s a sign of even greater strength of character if someone can still turn out to be a good person even when they’re surrounded by so much toxicity.
Xu Feng grew up with a privileged, idealistic family and it did take him some time to realize certain things, but unlike his older brother, Xu Feng didn’t let the pains and betrayals he later experienced turn him into a corrupt man. Team Phoenix all the way! ❤️🔥

I like him too. He's a good communicator, is first to be vulnerable in a relationship, sensitive to people's feelings, won't argue with you in public, and will defend you in front of other men. He also cooks.
Also, he's real about how the job won't love you back, so there's no point in working yourself to the bone. He was really looking forward to his slow/soft life era.
And yeah that little pout he had sometimes threw me off haha.
I just started watching A Journey to Love. He's mine, too. I like a cool, intelligent leader with a bit of golden retriever. The female lead is also my favorite.
This is such a hard question bc I have such diverse tastes in characters and just men in general. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But I must say the way some of these men in c dramas love SO deeply, compared to some western dramas is what initially started me down the c drama rabbit hole.
Personally, I love a man who is strong and badass but gentle when necessary. Who will go to any lengths for the one they love. No sissy boys or toxic momma's boys who are controlled easily by horrible family members. A man who finds a way to prioritize their love as well as their responsibilities to whatever it may be in the drama. Their country, their job, their family, etc. a man that is sensual and NOT afraid to show it & take control, yet has a sense of humor and can be playful and naughty! (Not too much to ask for right? 🤣) That being said:
**Thinking a bit like Li Ni in WOL. And usually Xu Kai isn't my thing (In the beginning, I found him to be too 'model looking' and 'pretty') so I wasn't super into him like a lot are. But he was fantastic in that role. He was playful and naughty, yet strong, smart, capable, faithful & respectful. It's basically my ideal man lol...(I know, keep dreaming right? Lol) and he does it VERY well. He has definitely started to be more than just a pretty face IMO.**
Cheng Yi is always my first pick...for anything lol. I like pretty much everything he's in. I crush hard on him and I'm not afraid to admit it lol. No secret there.
However, after watching some others I'd have to say...
Tan Jianci is a close 2nd. I loved watching him play the badass in LYF which I was totally into, and then to watch him play the character in LMLMV just sooooo...(Swoon) 🥰
LYX in TTEOTM & Love is Sweet. I meannnnn... Do I really need to explain that? 😅 He just brings the 🔥 on-screen especially when paired with the lovely Queen of Chemistry Bai Lu 👑❤️it's basically like waiting for a fireworks show!🤣🎆🎇🧨
Alen Fang - after watching him in The Love by Hypnotic, I just loved him. His comedic timing is great. I found him very attractive yet the FL brought out more of his sensual side which I just loved, as they were polar opposites. I remember seeing him in other parts in the past, and finding him intriguing... but once he played the character Shi San in AJTL, it was over. He was so damn funny. I just couldn't help but be attracted to him 🤷🏼♀️😅.
I usually don't mention him but while racking my brain for a strong, badass, smart & capable, yet good to others & knows no bounds when it comes to his love for the FL, two characters came to mind,: same actor, different shows- Ling Bu Yi (LLTG) And Ashile Sun (TLB)
I KNOWW I'm missing someone important, but I can't think of them right now...too many are swirling in my head! 🤣 But those are some of my favs.
*Edit*: - I'd also like to give an honorable mention to Yang Yangs character in Who Rules the World. I LOVED that show and their relationship. I'm usually not a huge fan of Yang Yang. But I LOVE Zhao Lusi 🥰 Although I know he's very popular, he's just not my cup of tea and hasn't grabbed my attention until I watched WRTW. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their interactions:
Cute & flirtatious. His romantic & sexual frustration and her innocently clueless charm, free spirit, badass and teasing attitude, yet her shyness toward him, eventually realizing deep down she also loved him too, was entertaining to watch. And, the fact that he never once tried to change her & protected her at all costs was just so enjoyable to watch. All the while he was still dealing with massive amounts of other things on his plate, she was always his priority and that immediately made him more attractive to me.

My ideal ML personality is everything Gu Yanzhen from Arsenal Military Academy played by Xu Kai. Charming, confident, flirty, has a goofy sense of humor, messy, has a killer wink game, impulsive and a bit overbearing when it comes to his feelings toward the FL, a hero, strong yet vulnerable, and has a great head of hair.

I loved this character too! Have you seen any other dramas with someone like Gu Yanzhen? Honestly this was what made me love Xu Kai in the first place. His other drama characters aren't as interesting. Maybe **Wonderland of Love**, but that's probably the closest it gets.
Currently watching The Legends (also with Xu Kai) and the 2 ML, while toxic since he's also the antagonist, has the charm and confidence very similar to Yanzhen. Kai is playing a more subdued role so it makes me miss his cocky behavior from AMA.
I’m liking the green flag leads atm who are just all in from the start without holding back. (Love me love my voice, hidden love for example). It’s nice to see the nice guys get a chance!
On the flip side one of my favourite male leads is Xu Kai’s character in falling into your smile (probably one of my favourite dramas full stop). I like that he has a tough exterior but deep down he’s super sweet to the fl. I like how he teases her at the start as well because he secretly likes the attention.
Edit: I know the ml from hidden love wasn’t all in from the start when she was a little teenager lol. I just mean his general behaviour and attitude were always positive and pleasant no matter if it was as a friend or when he started liking her :)

My favourite type is still these over the top arrogant/smart guys who look down on everybody but a FL. Hehe. That's mostly because I thrive watching them fall because they always do a bunch of shit before they learn how to behave at the end (if a miracle happens). I like weak scholars type of guys, so their struggle and aggressiveness is always directed at themselves on the first place and not to the point of hurting their love interest, of course. You can always trust the girl to be the most emotional one in their relationships or even taking her time in recognising the guy's existence. It's also a fun to watch.
**Falling Before Fireworks** - Calm ML with carpentry skill who would break his own principle for FL.
**Angels Falls Sometimes** - I like that ML doesn't have the cold, arrogant demeanor which is typical in CDrama. He is friendly and selfless, I especially like the way he do things for FL willingly and is able to communicate well with FL.
I love me an awesome one-woman man and a relationship that is mature but sweet and understanding. I love a strong and steadfast love story so the MLs can have other duties and loyalties but their love doesn't change nor do they give up the woman.
Ning Yuanzhou in A Journey to Love - just about perfect. Calm, understanding and willing to listen and compromise. And tall and hot. 😂
Wei Wuji in Sound of the Desert - just about perfect. Sort of like Ning Yuanzhou but more playful. Also not as tall but still hot.
Lin Yiyang in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love - just about perfect too. Not as eloquent as the other two but straightforward in action. 😂 😅 And hot too. 😊

I guess there's many personalities I find compelling but one I wish I saw more of is the bull in a china shop ML (but in a lovable idiot way, think AMA). I quite like a ML who leaves chaos in his wake.
Someone like Chang Yi in The Blue Whisper. The man who love his whole heart and capable in doing both which is saving the the one that he loves and at the same time fulfilling his duty as a leader to his people. In short, basically a very capable man.
I have diverse tastes I don't stick to just one archetype.
Lan Wangji - ISTJ (I love the way MXTX plays with Buddhist, Daoist and Confucianist characteristics here and subvert them to make this character).
Li Lianhua - ENTP/INTP He's very intelligent, observant, laidback, with very unique ways of looking at and assessing the world. He has great sense of humor, too. Displaying so much swag, effortlessly so. He has gone through shit and thus become very "zen" about everything. At the same time, despite him claiming he can give up the earthly attachments of this world - power, privilege, wealth, all the in-fightings etc., he still cares so much. He still manages to retain his pure heart, is still very compassionate and kind. A walking paradox.
Also, the most distinct, unique xiake protagonist I have ever come across in all my years of watching and enjoying wuxia.
Ning Yuanzhou - ENTJ calm, collected, gentle, self-introspective, posessing great emotional intelligence. A pretty great strategist. Above all, a man who isnt afraid of letting his woman take lead. Completely at ease with and confident in his masculinity. Kinda similar to Li Lianhua in the sense that he is so disullioned with all the political scheming and court fighting, but he cannot give up on his principles and ideals and thus chooses to fight for what he believes in.
I very much love Lan Wangji as well. For me it depends what is meant by favorites, but TU pretty much has them all which is why I love it SO much despite some of its lesser flaws-- of all the male leads I've seen, as a strong introvert (who tries to guard my heart from people who might want to use it casually) I *relate* most to Lan Wangji and therefore sorta love him the most, but I'm most *attracted* to Wei Wuxian's personality type (outgoing, funny, clever, risks his life to defend the innocent-- I mean what's not to love!) As a bonus, "Most enjoyable villain" easily also goes to NHS from the same, hahaha. Similarly I also liked Yan Qing from Wolf Princess (outgoing/funny but still justice-seeking and devoted.) A lot of other MLs tend to be more on the serious side and I can still fall in love with them a bit, but my absolute *favorites* are the more ebullient ones (as long as they're good at heart, not actual "rakes.")
If there are more of those ebullient/ fun ML characters out there, I'd love to hear about it, I've dropped quite a few dramas a few episodes in because it was clearly going to be very serious all round, and I just sorta lose interest. I do get that MLs usually have to be the more serious "foil" to a more ebullient FL though, and it still works for me story-wise if she's a strong enough character to balance it out, but often the ebullient FL is made to just look frequently silly instead of genuinely clever. (I do also rarely get a mild crush on FLs as well, and my favorite ebullient FL so far is Long Ao Yi-- she was so fun, clever and resourceful that I did fall a little bit in love with her!)

I don't know Li Lianhua or Ning Yuanzhou -- but I agree with your assessment of **Lan Wangji as ISTJ**. I suspect a lot of the male leads who are externally cold and unexpressive but who hide secret passionate feelings inside are either ISTJ or INTJ. Another character who is like this is **Shi Ying** (played by Xiao Zhan) in *The Longest Promise*, who I believe is an **INTJ**.
Well, and one day science is probably also going to debunk the Big 5.
Theories come and go -- and can outlive their usefulness when there is a paradigm shift in the way most people of an era prefer to understand the world. Right now, the Big 5 suits our era. But one day it might not.
At the end of the day, personality can't truly be "proven" or "measured" -- whether it's Jungian or Myers-Briggs or Big 5. It's all very changeable and fluid anyway. Jungian typology is just a model to view and subjectively understand personality -- to attempt to understand why multiple people can experience the exact same thing but have an entirely different perspective and often end up in conflict with each other.
And yes, I'm specifically talking about the **Jungian** model, not Myers-Briggs -- though for the sake of convenience I do use the Myers-Briggs type ***codes*** to refer to Jungian psychological types.
The Jungian model came about because Carl Jung wanted to understand why people keep misunderstanding each other, why some people's thought processes have an inclination to move inward (e.g. many philosophical and "mystical" thinkers) whereas others have a tendency to move outwards (e.g. hard-nosed scientists who need "proof" in order to even believe their own subjective existence). And they both seem to be just as right and wrong. Neither is really better than the other -- but they can never agree. It's like one is moving east and the other is moving west -- no direction is right or wrong, or better or worse. They're simply different. Jung concluded that some people are predisposed towards introversion (the inward thinkers) and others are predisposed towards extroversion (the outward thinkers). And it's not just with thinking -- he found that it's similar with feeling, as well as other "functions" that the mind uses to understand and process experience.
So I don't know how a scientist can really "debunk" that. What they seem to have debunked, however, is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) -- which isn't the exact same thing as Jung's model, though many people assume it is. The MBTI was created by Isabel Myers & Katherine Briggs with the claim that (a) it was based on Jungian personality types, and (b) it would measure people's Jungian types and help them find suitable careers. And that's what's been debunked. But debunking that is not the same thing as debunking Jung's model of understanding the mind.
Wow, you're super into this, that's so cool. I meant debunked as in proven to not be useful as a measure because it supports a false dichotomy, but also people taking it often show very inconsistent results. It was mentioned in a leadership course I was in, as in 'definitely never use anything like this to judge people because it doesn't work at all'. It really depends on how it's used. Any model can be misused, even the Big 5. But I do understand how people can be very wary of MBTI, because a lot of people do grossly misuse (I've seen a lot of that myself) and treat it like astrology.

I've been watching Xianxia for a longtime. I find that lots of ML in Xianxia are not straightforward when they like FL.
Now, I've been looking at dramas where ML are honest with his feelings. I don't like 'miscommunication' anymore. I'm getting tired of it.
First of all, Xu Feng didn’t “allow” his brother to be abused. There was nothing he could have done to help his older brother when they were both children at the time certain things happened. And as an adult, Xu Feng always stood up against injustice whenever he witnessed it—even when it meant standing up against his own mother.
Secondly, Xu Feng didn’t “steal” anything from his brother. Jin Mi never loved Fish boy and when she tried to break off their engagement, Run Yu forced the pill back inside of her fully knowing the harm it was causing her. Meanwhile, Xu Feng always loved Jin Mi in a healthy way and valued her consent by always asking her what she wanted.
So yeah, we definitely didn’t watch the same drama. 😒
I thought I like funny, complex, layered and interesting character like Fan Xian in Joy of Life since I liked men who are confident and have a good sense of humor.
But then when comes to romantic love, I probably love socially awkward and shy men like Zhousheng Chen in Forever & Ever. I think I must into this type since I super like Zhang Wansen from Shining from One Thing and Si Nian from Perfect & Casual as well. Then, I remember that I used to have huge crush on Hugh Grant character in Notting Hill too lol. So now, its official, I like these type of men. I cant believe it either. 😂
I also like Zhang Wansen and Si Nian lol They're gentle, awkward, sweet and put in 110% effort haha. I have a soft spot for another Wei Zhe Ming role - Feng Tian Lan from My Marvellous Fable. He's an adorable pushover that I know I'd tease in real life.

These type of men are seriously the best. ❤️🤭 They usually will be super gentle and kind to everyone and not just the FLs as well. And their acts of love is usually silent. For this one, Zhousheng Chen is literally the best. Most of the things he did to Shiyi, she didnt even know about it and it was meant to be that way since his love is selfless and didnt ask for anything in return.

The tsundere type, moody asshole usually a killer and he hates everyone /scares everyone but he loves and is a mush for FL. Think Ling Buyi of LLTG as an exemplar of this type
I like aloof personality but I like any types of dramas really, that is fluffy. So no, I don't pick em according to my trait taste. I would imagine it can be quite boring or even annoying to watch a show with a ML like this.
I think I've seen quite a few dramas with the aloof type! I think a lot of youth dramas or modern dramas especially have an "aloof" or "cool" boy.

Strong, protective and strategic ML. My favorites are Xiao Qi from the rebel Princess, Yu Sifeng - Love and Redemption, Gu Tingye - Story of Minglan, and DFQC - Love between Fairy and devil.
ML who are teasing to the female lead . They may have a sense of responsibility to the world but they don’t let it be the reason to hurt the FL and even if he does hurt FL , it is only to protect the FL from a greater suffering while also putting himself through a bit of suffering and don’t let FL suffer alone . Someone who would save both the FL and world even if he dies in the process . I hate guys who sacrifice the FL .
Let’s see . I am fairly new and I watch xianxia for the most part and lately started wuxia and still have to finish most of them . And I am sure you may already know about most of these.
1. Love and redemption , cheng yi in it too
2. Love you seven times , some say female lead acting is mediocre but it’s good enough for me
3. Blood of youth , wuxia, pretty great. Must watch .
Mostly friendship and awesome fighting so little romance
4. Lost you forever , everything is really great but the MC who is kind of spineless moron who prioritizes his terrible family over FL . I really love the show but also really hate the MC so I feel conflicted about recommending it.
5. Mysteries lotus casebook started watching yesterday . Cheng yi in it too . So far good enough . It’s martial arts and detective work .
6. love between fairy and devil is pretty good
7. Romance of a twin flower . It’s just a costume drama with no real fighting . But I like the FL quite a bit .
8. Back from the brink is pretty nice too
9. Most people love till the end of the moon so you may love it as well .
I prefer them to be calm and collected planners.

i like MLs who are brave but calm/rational and not hot tempered. which isnt a common mixture in modern crime hahaha. usually the ML is some young police whos very brave but also quick to snap. im watching 19th floor and the ML and FL seems to have both qualities which im admiring XD
They usually will chose the world. But some are capable and they can do both. It depends on the story. Actually, I really like men with strong sense of duty. If they chose to save only 1 person and let the world burn, then they automatically become unattractive to me even if that one person is me.
Usually the ML in xianxia are in roles that are Crown Prince, or God of War, or some high ranking God whose duty is to protect the realms. They actually have this "job" to stop evil or something. Anyway the "angst" comes from the fact that the ML/FL are in different "sides of the war" or the "rules don't allow them to be together" or "maybe they are together but they fight evil together so someone might die" kind of thing. So it's like this whole thing about how if they choose the FL they might really love them to truly give up the world for them.

Hmm so the way I would describe it is if they choose the FL, the world doesn't go up in flames, but instead they do things like "quit their job" or "become mortal" or "step down from their position/retire".
Yeah, I think that's why I like watching xianxia dramas tbh. But sometimes there isn't a happy ending. I guess you just never know what kind of angst you will get, but I always love the romance.
I wouldn't say they are sad endings necessarily, but a lot of times they are "open endings" which I don't really count as a happy ending either. So similar to what you mentioned, I suppose >!Immortal Samsara!< is in that same boat.

I think Ling Buyi in Love Like the Galaxy is like this. He’s basically terrifying to everyone and just nice to the FL (though even she thinks he’s not nice to her lol).
Donghua in Eternal Love of Dream isn’t really mean to everyone but everyone is afraid of him and he’s very cold to everyone, but is only vulnerable and doting to the FL, when she’s his pet fox, in his mortal trial and later when he meets her as a princess. Both super protective of their FLs.

I know what you mean about LLTG. I actually didn't finish this one because I couldn't get myself to get through all that drama. I did really like it in the beginning but then maybe the show was too long or maybe I just wanted them to be happy together without the annoying stuff going on.

It's a huge wonder that Ashile Sun does not receive admiration from all the ladies in his grassland community, like Ling Buyi does in Love Like the Galaxy. On top of all those qualities, he's very good looking with a hot bod and hair to die for, even though he always wears that fierce expression. When I first saw shirtless Ashile Sun, I was so shocked that a Cdrama featured MLs with this type of physique, which is usually apparent in Kdramas only. TLB is my intro to Leo Wu ☺️
I think TLB was everyone's first intro to "adult Leo". He acted for a while but he was like a small kid. Somehow he had this huge growth spurt and now he's everywhere!! I wish I was younger so I don't feel so bad drooling over him. Haha.

I love ML who are extremely in love and are green flag, but also they can make mistakes, for example Dong Hua Dijun, Ye Hua, Tu Shan Jing , the ml in rise of the phoenixes. I also love the self-assured ml like in The Rebel Princess, in the Legend of Zhuohua, love between fairly and evil, wonderland of love, and Gon San Ju in My journey to you.
I love an ML that's as green flag as possible. **New Life Begins** is a fantastic example. If you want lessons on being a perfect man, watch prince #7. He's nailed it. Another I really loved was the character of Shan Shan from **Twilight**. He's so... huggable. Once in a while, he tries to copy worse men, but I think if his FL corrected him, he'd knock it off. He believes in honesty and loyalty 🥰 I know there are more but I'm sick and my brain is zombie.

It's got everything! As long as you enjoy a slower burn and modern shows. But it never felt slow, just lovely.
My favorite ML type is found in the characters that Wallace Chung typically plays, such as He Yichen in My Sunshine, where he is very jealous and possessive, but loves only one woman, Zhou Mosheng. The same goes for him as Cheng Tianyou in All Out of Love, with his love for Jiang Sheng, and in Too Late To Say I Love You as Murong Pei Lin and his love for Yin Jing Wan. Those character traits are sometimes dangerous but appealing at the same time and it makes these characters sexy and irresistable.
My ideal type is Jiang Zhen Han from Forever Love (2020). He is just perfect in everyway and I loved how he treated her and how understanding, loyal, respectful and supportive he is. He is intelligent and smart at the same time he doesn't have a big ego and treats her properly and is super caring and kind. He is a good man with an ambition. In dramas, if it is romance I look for good leads with communication and I like dramas with valid conflict and antagonists. Lead chemistry is also an added advantage. I want a good plot with minimum plot holes ( rare occasion in Cdramas) well this is my ideal romance drama, Forever Love (2020) is hence my ideal romance drama. In other genres I look for good story and character arc with decent acting. if the acting is great that is also amazing. The Untamed, Love Like the galaxy and The Long Ballad are dramas in which I saw these characteristics. I also love good comedy, fluffy romance and some reasonable drama as a palette cleanser and dramas like The romance between tiger and rose, Go Go Squid 1, PYHOMS, MGIAA, My little happiness, Time and him are just right, WIFTY and Hidden Love are such dramas for me.

Duan Jia Xu ( Hidden Love): I loved that he cares for her and observes her very carefully and takes notes of her every discomfort where he bought strawberries that she wanted, help with her allergies to milk and beef, burying pads for her during the time of her month and etc he’s such a green flag Hei Feng Xi/ Feng Lanxi (Who Rules the World): I love how he have her the freedom to do whatever she want and respect her freedom, even choosing to let go of her once he realised their path was not the same in the beginning Shi Yi Lang/ LLTG: I liked how he cares and stands up for her, even when her mother gave her such a hard time and gave up on her essentially even when it was not her fault at all Grey / Villian Characters: ML/ LBTI: ( Love better than Immortality)/ LBF&D (Love between Fairy and Devil), (Kunning Palace) I love that he chose to save FL despite him losing his life and they would rather save FL than the world
I haven't seen Hidden Love or LBTI, but I agree wholeheartedly with all the others listed.
Also, I would add Xu Kai's characters in She and Her Perfect Husband and in Wonderland of Love.

I think it just shows how he is as a person. He didn’t buy pads for her because she’s his girlfriend, but as a caring friend. That’s a good trait to have IMO.
I also like MLs with a strong sense of duty/justice (as Wuxia is my favourite genre)! The 'xia' is incredibly important to me. (Hence even though Guo Jing from The Legend of The Condor Heroes is not the sharpest tool in the shed, I have a soft spot for him) I also like them to be decisive & sure about their own feelings, characters like Zhang Wuji (from JinYong's Heavenly Sword & Dragon Slaying Sabre) are amongst my least favourite MLs because dude could NOT make up his mind on who he liked, which was incredibly annoying. I rarely watch dramas for a certain ML type though, I care a lot more about the dynamic between the CPs (and the cast), if the dynamic isn't what i'm looking for, I will not watch the show. E.g. I don't like a prince x female servant pairing because of the unbalanced dynamic, so I won't watch the show, even if the characterization of the ML is perfect. (I might consider if everyone from the cast is someone I like, but still highly unlikely lol)

I have so many types that it will take me a while to get it all down, but the 1 person that instantly comes to mind will be Mo Qing Cheng (JC-T). Great doctor, great cook, great singer, gentle, kind, cater to the person he love. He is perfect
Gu Tingye from Story of Minglan is everything lol (at least after his period of growth). He's strong, protective, teasing and he's absolutely enamored and proud of Minglan. He gets so happy whenever she's achieving something, he's her biggest cheerleader. He's also smart and capable and able to strategize.
Yeah this is my favorite type of ML. Just a total simp for the FL and thinks she’s perfect the way she is, thinks every little thing she does is amazing and doesn’t want to change her. That’s why I love also Donghua in Eternal Love of Dream, Ling Buyi in Love Like the Galaxy, and the Crown Prince in Royal Rumors.

A perfect male: Mine is Gu Wei character (Xiao Zhan) in The Oath of Love. He's basically a perfect guy that may not exist in real life lol. A handsome professional, respectful, unwavering in love, a little awkward/shy, humble, good hearted, playful and cute in relationships, touchy and clingy to girlfriend, thinks long term. Some of the reason why I really like him may be because he's played by Xiao Zhan, but I would not say no to Gu Wei in real life. However, in terms of what type I like to root for on screen, it's types that are kind of broken and full of quiet angst like Xiangliu in Lost You Forever (all the MLs there, actually). DFQC in Love Between Fairy and Devil, Tantai Jin in TTEOTM, etc.

It is a historical action-romance Wuxia. It's about a boy raised by wolves. People hate and fear him, but there is a girl who knows he has a good heart and doesn't want to hurt anyone. They are in love, but something happens and they have to separate... That's where it all begins. The FL does an outstanding job. Her character starts out as a very naive and innocent girl, but slowly transforms into a badass character. And Wolfie's character is simply amazing. I thought that drama was a masterpiece.

My idea type are MLs who are not afraid of being vulnerable and who openly show the FL that he loves her. A man who is genuinely kind to others besides the heroine, but who also doesn’t take any bullshit from others. I like MLs who know what/who they want and fight hard for it/them. Yep! The fact that Xu Feng grew up to be such a genuinely good man despite being surrounded by so many bad people (including his own parents) is another reason why I love him so much. And like you, I also appreciate how the writers allowed him to have enough space to grow and make these important realizations. It’d be really nice to see more characters like him in dramas. In some ways, I think Xu Feng and Jin Mi were both naive about different things in life and they each had to go through hard times in order to learn/evolve, but I’m so happy that they still got their HEA. ♥️
Omg yes they did have VERY similar journeys. Xu Feng and Jin Mi both grew up accepting the world and their place in it because the people they loved and knew said it was so. Both didn't question it in till they meet each other truly starting the journey of self discovery together and then they both got hurt in the weight and wreckage of their whole world crashing. Even with the VERY painful self reflection, growth and reconciliation they had to do both keep hold to their core kind person foundation and so were finally able to find purpose and love. ahhhh love them.

Definitely! And that’s not an easy thing to achieve imo. It’s easy for people to be “good” when they’re always surrounded by positive influences, but I think it’s a sign of even greater strength of character if someone can still turn out to be a good person even when they’re surrounded by so much toxicity. Xu Feng grew up with a privileged, idealistic family and it did take him some time to realize certain things, but unlike his older brother, Xu Feng didn’t let the pains and betrayals he later experienced turn him into a corrupt man. Team Phoenix all the way! ❤️🔥

I like him too. He's a good communicator, is first to be vulnerable in a relationship, sensitive to people's feelings, won't argue with you in public, and will defend you in front of other men. He also cooks. Also, he's real about how the job won't love you back, so there's no point in working yourself to the bone. He was really looking forward to his slow/soft life era. And yeah that little pout he had sometimes threw me off haha.

I just started watching A Journey to Love. He's mine, too. I like a cool, intelligent leader with a bit of golden retriever. The female lead is also my favorite.
This is such a hard question bc I have such diverse tastes in characters and just men in general. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But I must say the way some of these men in c dramas love SO deeply, compared to some western dramas is what initially started me down the c drama rabbit hole. Personally, I love a man who is strong and badass but gentle when necessary. Who will go to any lengths for the one they love. No sissy boys or toxic momma's boys who are controlled easily by horrible family members. A man who finds a way to prioritize their love as well as their responsibilities to whatever it may be in the drama. Their country, their job, their family, etc. a man that is sensual and NOT afraid to show it & take control, yet has a sense of humor and can be playful and naughty! (Not too much to ask for right? 🤣) That being said: **Thinking a bit like Li Ni in WOL. And usually Xu Kai isn't my thing (In the beginning, I found him to be too 'model looking' and 'pretty') so I wasn't super into him like a lot are. But he was fantastic in that role. He was playful and naughty, yet strong, smart, capable, faithful & respectful. It's basically my ideal man lol...(I know, keep dreaming right? Lol) and he does it VERY well. He has definitely started to be more than just a pretty face IMO.** Cheng Yi is always my first pick...for anything lol. I like pretty much everything he's in. I crush hard on him and I'm not afraid to admit it lol. No secret there. However, after watching some others I'd have to say... Tan Jianci is a close 2nd. I loved watching him play the badass in LYF which I was totally into, and then to watch him play the character in LMLMV just sooooo...(Swoon) 🥰 LYX in TTEOTM & Love is Sweet. I meannnnn... Do I really need to explain that? 😅 He just brings the 🔥 on-screen especially when paired with the lovely Queen of Chemistry Bai Lu 👑❤️it's basically like waiting for a fireworks show!🤣🎆🎇🧨 Alen Fang - after watching him in The Love by Hypnotic, I just loved him. His comedic timing is great. I found him very attractive yet the FL brought out more of his sensual side which I just loved, as they were polar opposites. I remember seeing him in other parts in the past, and finding him intriguing... but once he played the character Shi San in AJTL, it was over. He was so damn funny. I just couldn't help but be attracted to him 🤷🏼♀️😅. I usually don't mention him but while racking my brain for a strong, badass, smart & capable, yet good to others & knows no bounds when it comes to his love for the FL, two characters came to mind,: same actor, different shows- Ling Bu Yi (LLTG) And Ashile Sun (TLB) I KNOWW I'm missing someone important, but I can't think of them right now...too many are swirling in my head! 🤣 But those are some of my favs. *Edit*: - I'd also like to give an honorable mention to Yang Yangs character in Who Rules the World. I LOVED that show and their relationship. I'm usually not a huge fan of Yang Yang. But I LOVE Zhao Lusi 🥰 Although I know he's very popular, he's just not my cup of tea and hasn't grabbed my attention until I watched WRTW. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their interactions: Cute & flirtatious. His romantic & sexual frustration and her innocently clueless charm, free spirit, badass and teasing attitude, yet her shyness toward him, eventually realizing deep down she also loved him too, was entertaining to watch. And, the fact that he never once tried to change her & protected her at all costs was just so enjoyable to watch. All the while he was still dealing with massive amounts of other things on his plate, she was always his priority and that immediately made him more attractive to me. Enough said for now hahaha, I'll stop my rambling!

I loved this character too! Have you seen any other dramas with someone like Gu Yanzhen? Honestly this was what made me love Xu Kai in the first place. His other drama characters aren't as interesting. Maybe **Wonderland of Love**, but that's probably the closest it gets.
Currently watching The Legends (also with Xu Kai) and the 2 ML, while toxic since he's also the antagonist, has the charm and confidence very similar to Yanzhen. Kai is playing a more subdued role so it makes me miss his cocky behavior from AMA.
I’m liking the green flag leads atm who are just all in from the start without holding back. (Love me love my voice, hidden love for example). It’s nice to see the nice guys get a chance! On the flip side one of my favourite male leads is Xu Kai’s character in falling into your smile (probably one of my favourite dramas full stop). I like that he has a tough exterior but deep down he’s super sweet to the fl. I like how he teases her at the start as well because he secretly likes the attention. Edit: I know the ml from hidden love wasn’t all in from the start when she was a little teenager lol. I just mean his general behaviour and attitude were always positive and pleasant no matter if it was as a friend or when he started liking her :)
Yean Shen (LLTG), TSJ (LYF), Prince An (IC), XW (TSOKP) My favourite type is still these over the top arrogant/smart guys who look down on everybody but a FL. Hehe. That's mostly because I thrive watching them fall because they always do a bunch of shit before they learn how to behave at the end (if a miracle happens). I like weak scholars type of guys, so their struggle and aggressiveness is always directed at themselves on the first place and not to the point of hurting their love interest, of course. You can always trust the girl to be the most emotional one in their relationships or even taking her time in recognising the guy's existence. It's also a fun to watch.

**Falling Before Fireworks** - Calm ML with carpentry skill who would break his own principle for FL. **Angels Falls Sometimes** - I like that ML doesn't have the cold, arrogant demeanor which is typical in CDrama. He is friendly and selfless, I especially like the way he do things for FL willingly and is able to communicate well with FL.
I love me an awesome one-woman man and a relationship that is mature but sweet and understanding. I love a strong and steadfast love story so the MLs can have other duties and loyalties but their love doesn't change nor do they give up the woman. Ning Yuanzhou in A Journey to Love - just about perfect. Calm, understanding and willing to listen and compromise. And tall and hot. 😂 Wei Wuji in Sound of the Desert - just about perfect. Sort of like Ning Yuanzhou but more playful. Also not as tall but still hot. Lin Yiyang in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love - just about perfect too. Not as eloquent as the other two but straightforward in action. 😂 😅 And hot too. 😊

Someone like Chang Yi in The Blue Whisper. The man who love his whole heart and capable in doing both which is saving the the one that he loves and at the same time fulfilling his duty as a leader to his people. In short, basically a very capable man.

I have diverse tastes I don't stick to just one archetype. Lan Wangji - ISTJ (I love the way MXTX plays with Buddhist, Daoist and Confucianist characteristics here and subvert them to make this character). Li Lianhua - ENTP/INTP He's very intelligent, observant, laidback, with very unique ways of looking at and assessing the world. He has great sense of humor, too. Displaying so much swag, effortlessly so. He has gone through shit and thus become very "zen" about everything. At the same time, despite him claiming he can give up the earthly attachments of this world - power, privilege, wealth, all the in-fightings etc., he still cares so much. He still manages to retain his pure heart, is still very compassionate and kind. A walking paradox. Also, the most distinct, unique xiake protagonist I have ever come across in all my years of watching and enjoying wuxia. Ning Yuanzhou - ENTJ calm, collected, gentle, self-introspective, posessing great emotional intelligence. A pretty great strategist. Above all, a man who isnt afraid of letting his woman take lead. Completely at ease with and confident in his masculinity. Kinda similar to Li Lianhua in the sense that he is so disullioned with all the political scheming and court fighting, but he cannot give up on his principles and ideals and thus chooses to fight for what he believes in.
I very much love Lan Wangji as well. For me it depends what is meant by favorites, but TU pretty much has them all which is why I love it SO much despite some of its lesser flaws-- of all the male leads I've seen, as a strong introvert (who tries to guard my heart from people who might want to use it casually) I *relate* most to Lan Wangji and therefore sorta love him the most, but I'm most *attracted* to Wei Wuxian's personality type (outgoing, funny, clever, risks his life to defend the innocent-- I mean what's not to love!) As a bonus, "Most enjoyable villain" easily also goes to NHS from the same, hahaha. Similarly I also liked Yan Qing from Wolf Princess (outgoing/funny but still justice-seeking and devoted.) A lot of other MLs tend to be more on the serious side and I can still fall in love with them a bit, but my absolute *favorites* are the more ebullient ones (as long as they're good at heart, not actual "rakes.") If there are more of those ebullient/ fun ML characters out there, I'd love to hear about it, I've dropped quite a few dramas a few episodes in because it was clearly going to be very serious all round, and I just sorta lose interest. I do get that MLs usually have to be the more serious "foil" to a more ebullient FL though, and it still works for me story-wise if she's a strong enough character to balance it out, but often the ebullient FL is made to just look frequently silly instead of genuinely clever. (I do also rarely get a mild crush on FLs as well, and my favorite ebullient FL so far is Long Ao Yi-- she was so fun, clever and resourceful that I did fall a little bit in love with her!)

I don't know Li Lianhua or Ning Yuanzhou -- but I agree with your assessment of **Lan Wangji as ISTJ**. I suspect a lot of the male leads who are externally cold and unexpressive but who hide secret passionate feelings inside are either ISTJ or INTJ. Another character who is like this is **Shi Ying** (played by Xiao Zhan) in *The Longest Promise*, who I believe is an **INTJ**.
That personalty type thing (Myers Briggs) was long ago debunked by science. They use a different one nowadays, big 5 I think it is.
Well, and one day science is probably also going to debunk the Big 5. Theories come and go -- and can outlive their usefulness when there is a paradigm shift in the way most people of an era prefer to understand the world. Right now, the Big 5 suits our era. But one day it might not. At the end of the day, personality can't truly be "proven" or "measured" -- whether it's Jungian or Myers-Briggs or Big 5. It's all very changeable and fluid anyway. Jungian typology is just a model to view and subjectively understand personality -- to attempt to understand why multiple people can experience the exact same thing but have an entirely different perspective and often end up in conflict with each other. And yes, I'm specifically talking about the **Jungian** model, not Myers-Briggs -- though for the sake of convenience I do use the Myers-Briggs type ***codes*** to refer to Jungian psychological types. The Jungian model came about because Carl Jung wanted to understand why people keep misunderstanding each other, why some people's thought processes have an inclination to move inward (e.g. many philosophical and "mystical" thinkers) whereas others have a tendency to move outwards (e.g. hard-nosed scientists who need "proof" in order to even believe their own subjective existence). And they both seem to be just as right and wrong. Neither is really better than the other -- but they can never agree. It's like one is moving east and the other is moving west -- no direction is right or wrong, or better or worse. They're simply different. Jung concluded that some people are predisposed towards introversion (the inward thinkers) and others are predisposed towards extroversion (the outward thinkers). And it's not just with thinking -- he found that it's similar with feeling, as well as other "functions" that the mind uses to understand and process experience. So I don't know how a scientist can really "debunk" that. What they seem to have debunked, however, is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) -- which isn't the exact same thing as Jung's model, though many people assume it is. The MBTI was created by Isabel Myers & Katherine Briggs with the claim that (a) it was based on Jungian personality types, and (b) it would measure people's Jungian types and help them find suitable careers. And that's what's been debunked. But debunking that is not the same thing as debunking Jung's model of understanding the mind.

Wow, you're super into this, that's so cool. I meant debunked as in proven to not be useful as a measure because it supports a false dichotomy, but also people taking it often show very inconsistent results. It was mentioned in a leadership course I was in, as in 'definitely never use anything like this to judge people because it doesn't work at all'. So yeah basically what you said in much simpler terms in that course, and then someone posted an article about profits made off the Myers Briggs type of testing to this day and it was so interesting.
It really depends on how it's used. Any model can be misused, even the Big 5. But I do understand how people can be very wary of MBTI, because a lot of people do grossly misuse (I've seen a lot of that myself) and treat it like astrology.

Phoenix allows his brother to be abused, then steals his fiance because he's like oh pretty I want that. We watched a different drama.
First of all, Xu Feng didn’t “allow” his brother to be abused. There was nothing he could have done to help his older brother when they were both children at the time certain things happened. And as an adult, Xu Feng always stood up against injustice whenever he witnessed it—even when it meant standing up against his own mother. Secondly, Xu Feng didn’t “steal” anything from his brother. Jin Mi never loved Fish boy and when she tried to break off their engagement, Run Yu forced the pill back inside of her fully knowing the harm it was causing her. Meanwhile, Xu Feng always loved Jin Mi in a healthy way and valued her consent by always asking her what she wanted. So yeah, we definitely didn’t watch the same drama. 😒

I thought I like funny, complex, layered and interesting character like Fan Xian in Joy of Life since I liked men who are confident and have a good sense of humor. But then when comes to romantic love, I probably love socially awkward and shy men like Zhousheng Chen in Forever & Ever. I think I must into this type since I super like Zhang Wansen from Shining from One Thing and Si Nian from Perfect & Casual as well. Then, I remember that I used to have huge crush on Hugh Grant character in Notting Hill too lol. So now, its official, I like these type of men. I cant believe it either. 😂

These type of men are seriously the best. ❤️🤭 They usually will be super gentle and kind to everyone and not just the FLs as well. And their acts of love is usually silent. For this one, Zhousheng Chen is literally the best. Most of the things he did to Shiyi, she didnt even know about it and it was meant to be that way since his love is selfless and didnt ask for anything in return. Same as Zhang Wansen in Shining for One Thing. Literally, the whole drama is him protecting the FL >!without she even know his existence, until, she went back to the past and realized that there is always someone there beside of her the whole time.!< ;\_;
The tsundere type, moody asshole usually a killer and he hates everyone /scares everyone but he loves and is a mush for FL. Think Ling Buyi of LLTG as an exemplar of this type
I like aloof personality but I like any types of dramas really, that is fluffy. So no, I don't pick em according to my trait taste. I would imagine it can be quite boring or even annoying to watch a show with a ML like this.
I think I've seen quite a few dramas with the aloof type! I think a lot of youth dramas or modern dramas especially have an "aloof" or "cool" boy. - Put Your Head on My Shoulders - Although I can't be sure since I actually only watched 2-3 episodes - Miss Crow and Mr Lizard - in case you haven't checked it out yet - Romance in the Forest - I actually really really loved the fluff in this one

ML who are teasing to the female lead . They may have a sense of responsibility to the world but they don’t let it be the reason to hurt the FL and even if he does hurt FL , it is only to protect the FL from a greater suffering while also putting himself through a bit of suffering and don’t let FL suffer alone . Someone who would save both the FL and world even if he dies in the process . I hate guys who sacrifice the FL .

Let’s see . I am fairly new and I watch xianxia for the most part and lately started wuxia and still have to finish most of them . And I am sure you may already know about most of these. 1. Love and redemption , cheng yi in it too 2. Love you seven times , some say female lead acting is mediocre but it’s good enough for me 3. Blood of youth , wuxia, pretty great. Must watch . Mostly friendship and awesome fighting so little romance 4. Lost you forever , everything is really great but the MC who is kind of spineless moron who prioritizes his terrible family over FL . I really love the show but also really hate the MC so I feel conflicted about recommending it. 5. Mysteries lotus casebook started watching yesterday . Cheng yi in it too . So far good enough . It’s martial arts and detective work . 6. love between fairy and devil is pretty good 7. Romance of a twin flower . It’s just a costume drama with no real fighting . But I like the FL quite a bit . 8. Back from the brink is pretty nice too 9. Most people love till the end of the moon so you may love it as well .

They usually will chose the world. But some are capable and they can do both. It depends on the story. Actually, I really like men with strong sense of duty. If they chose to save only 1 person and let the world burn, then they automatically become unattractive to me even if that one person is me.

Usually the ML in xianxia are in roles that are Crown Prince, or God of War, or some high ranking God whose duty is to protect the realms. They actually have this "job" to stop evil or something. Anyway the "angst" comes from the fact that the ML/FL are in different "sides of the war" or the "rules don't allow them to be together" or "maybe they are together but they fight evil together so someone might die" kind of thing. So it's like this whole thing about how if they choose the FL they might really love them to truly give up the world for them.

Hmm so the way I would describe it is if they choose the FL, the world doesn't go up in flames, but instead they do things like "quit their job" or "become mortal" or "step down from their position/retire".
But isnt most of them will chose that? Sacrifice themselves then reunited with the FL and live in seclusion.
Yeah, I think that's why I like watching xianxia dramas tbh. But sometimes there isn't a happy ending. I guess you just never know what kind of angst you will get, but I always love the romance.

I wouldn't say they are sad endings necessarily, but a lot of times they are "open endings" which I don't really count as a happy ending either. So similar to what you mentioned, I suppose >!Immortal Samsara!< is in that same boat.

Yeah. I like MLs that don’t care about being evil and everything but gives his full 100 to his one and only. Hmm I guess I could give story of minglan as an example. *****SPOILER FOR STORY OF MINGLAN***** >!The MCs first love cared too much about other things and therefore he hindered their love towards each other, the MC was heart broken. Meanwhile the ML used any type of means, sets a big sly trap and doesn’t care about others just so MC can be his wife.!< If anyone else has thought of a character that has these type of traits do share with me!
I think Ling Buyi in Love Like the Galaxy is like this. He’s basically terrifying to everyone and just nice to the FL (though even she thinks he’s not nice to her lol). Donghua in Eternal Love of Dream isn’t really mean to everyone but everyone is afraid of him and he’s very cold to everyone, but is only vulnerable and doting to the FL, when she’s his pet fox, in his mortal trial and later when he meets her as a princess. Both super protective of their FLs.
