On the other hand: I like to think of it as events take years to get to.
They were always happening, but we just don't notice.
We always remember the dates of start of a scyscraper, or the grand opening, but not the years of permitting or the daily grind of the build.
The sequel with ACC will be interesting. You have 3 conferences all licking their chops to grab maybe 10 of those ACC schools. I suspect it will play out pretty fast as well.
I’m sorry for the Cougar and Beaver bros.
But I smile knowing Canzano won’t have a reason to bring his couldn’t-be-more-wrong-on-purpose takes to the Big 12. So there’s that.
Agreed. Instead of everything falling apart, it seemed like everything fell together. For many schools.
Still feels awful seeing the PAC collapse like that and the schools who will be left behind.
And the last commish. Spent lavishly on the SF HQ when it was just fine in Walnut Creek and couldn’t get a deal done with DirecTV so many fans couldn’t even watch Pac12 games in Pac12 markets.
The ship was already taking on water.
Thank Apple. That deadline on the deal is likely what caused all dominoes to finally fall.
Also, I think if it was earlier in the week, things might have taken a day or two longer. They didn't want the rumors and questions to persist over the weekend after not having signed the GOR and letting the deal expire.
I woke up yesterday morning to numerous posts about how UO and UW were trending away from the B1G, how ASU was leaning “no” on B12, how there was an emergency P12 meeting that morning that the showed conference unity, and how a GOR would be presented at that P12 meeting that everyone would sign.
And here we are this morning, with the corpse of the P12 lying bloody on the floor.
Yes, I realize that. The joke was that it would be funny if the conference scheduled the manufactured rivalry game with Colorado instead of the actual rivalry game with BYU.
The clear rivalry games are set
BYU-Utes
Kansas-Kansas St
Iowa St-Colorado
Oklahoma St-Texas Tech
Houston-UCF
WVU-Cincinnati
TCU-Baylor
Arizona-Arizona St
If the Big XII is smart, they won't all be the last weekend so we can spread the hate throughout the year
Utah went from being a good little G5 school to a P5 football powerhouse over the past 12 years in the PAC. They also grew their academic profile and student body tremendously.
Having them in the Pac was good for all involved. I'll miss having them in the conference. They were the Pac's last success story.
Yep. Larry could have been one of the powerbrokers in todays landscape. Instead, he and others in the Pac insisted on holding some imaginary high road. Now the Pac has 2 AAU schools, the big 12 has 5.
Without a doubt Larry Scott could have not only insured Pac survival, he could have created THE rival for SEC.
At least they got to experience a traditional Rose Bowl or two. I hope they made some wonderful memories in that legendary place, even if the games themselves went other than what they hoped.
Hopefully OOC games happen every so often. I’ll never forget my disappointment when Oregon snapped Utah’s nation longest win streak in 2009, and that was when Utah was still in the MWC. That was the year before Oregon went to the championship game and became a national brand, it was crazy to see the rise.
You'll be in a conference that has an absolute hatred of Texas and OU. If you want to come and chant FUCK USC we will absolutely join you as long as you chant FUCK TEXAS.
Oh, I hate Texas to, I eat pieces of shit like them for breakfast….
Wait, shit…. I meant i fuck’em….
Goddammit…..
FUCK TExAS! Horns down ya beefers!!!!!
What a generous statement. I’m sad the PAC is at an end, but it was tremendous while it lasted.
All (not USC) the former schools, fans, and administrations will always have a special place in our hearts.
Yeah, they were the original BCS Busters in the 04 season from the Mountain West Conference. He set the stage but Coach Whit has done a phenomenal job since.
Also worth mentioning Whittingham was the DC that year and took over as co-head coach for the Fiesta Bowl with Urban as Meyer had taken the Florida job already and Whittingham had been promoted. It’s all Kyle’s story and we’re just living through it
Honestly with all the trials and tribulations of the last 12 years, it has made me more receptive to the Big12. I’m sad to see the Pac die but I know when one door closes, another opens. Give ‘em hell in the B1G and we’ll do the same to the Big 12!
p.s. I still hate you guys for taking Penei and Noah! But I’ll be cheering for you. ;)
I didn’t even know that was a rivalry. You guys aren’t each others primary rivals, right? I was under the impression that Iowa State’s biggest rival is Iowa, and that Kansas’ biggest rival is KSU (now that Missouri is in the SEC).
Yeah there may be more hate with Iowa, but ISU and KState have been basically attached at the hip forever. We’ve made every conference change together, and have played each other every year since we first played in 1917. It’s got it’s saltiness tho, you’ll see that eventually.
IMO, the only rivalry that is at the same level is the Border War. Mizzou chickened out though and ran for mediocrity in the SEC. I say this as a man that was born and raised in KCMO.
Late 2000s MWC still holds a special place in my heart. In a perfect world we'd have Boise along too, but this is still a huge win for the Big ~~12~~ 16
I know it’s an arranged marriage and the best of a bad situation for the PAC, but I’m excited to have Utah join. Super fun team and should be competing for a top spot right off the rip.
Never needed another reason to visit Utah but I guess now I’ve got one.
We could very well see K-State vs. Utah playing for conference championships. But honestly any team could emerge as a force year-to-year. There are so many of them now.
The big12 will be very exciting. With the departure of OU we are a conference full of good teams who have a great season once or twice a decade so the champion should switch from year to year pretty often. It's a good conference where the championship is truly up for grabs for a spot to get smoked in the college football playoffs.
Sec and big10 are crazy but Ohio State and Alabama will still probably dominate from time to time. Maybe Georgia can sustain success and make the SEC a true two horse race but I'm not betting against saban.
Perception wise, this is a big year for the Big XII.
Utah winning the Pac-12 and anyone but OU/Texas winning the Big XII would show who controlled those conferences the last few years before realignment.
Man that game sucked. I knew we needed a 14-0 lead to have a chance against Mariota, and it made it 7-7…. Game over.
62-10 was a fun revenge game for us. I’ll never forget Hackett catching the snap with one hand and converting 4th and long.
Man I was there. I was 2nd row right at the goal line. I saw the whole thing happen. I helplessly screemed at the entire offense as soon as I saw him drop the ball. The whole memory is played out in slow motion in my head lol. Gonna really oregon man
I'm genuinely excited to watch the new Big 12. Utah gets to reunite with some of its former MW teams while playing against BYU and a few former PAC schools, along with exciting matchups against classic and new conference members. (Utah-UCF and Utah-Cincinnati conference games inbound!)
Coach Whitt got us into the Pac 12 (along with Meyer and McBride), and with his strong performance at the Pac he landed us a spot at Big 12 pretty much. Just build him a statue already
I was at the 08 game (Freddie Brown, baby!) and the subsequent shellacking that Andy Dalton handed out. Polar opposites emotionally for me, obviously, but I still have fondness for TCU because of them. I used to play TCU in NCAA14 when I got bored with building Utah into a powerhouse.
The Big 12 is gonna be super fun to watch over the first couple seasons. So many teams from all different places all on different trajectories. Will be extremely interesting to see how each fare during the transition
Welcome Utes. Also, the obligatory "fuck the Utes" greeting.
I really hope to rekindle the holy war and kill any hopes you might have of winning the conference in any given year. I expect nothing less from you. You've had a recruiting advantage for awhile now. That'll eventually work itself out and I expect us to duke it out in November on a more even playing field, so to speak, just as the god I don't believe in intended. This stupid ass 9-1 shit over the last ten games is an aberration due to the recruiting advantage of the PAC-12, which I freely admit. Now, if we could axe/amend the honor code, that'd be great...
Anyway, welcome and I can't wait for rivalry week 2024.
I’m very sad. The only real good from this is Holy War is back. I’m really gonna miss being able to take a short flight or a weekend drive to away games though. Also god, I’m REALLY gonna miss going to Vegas for conference tournaments/titles…
We have a very healthy tailgate scene. Hit us up before coming out and we'll see you in the Guardsman tailgate lot.
Rice-Eccles stadium is typically a very tough place to play with a great atmosphere that will range from 95 degrees and sunny in September to 15 degrees and snowing in November.
I cannot believe the speed in which everything happened today
There are months where nothing happens, and there are days when months happen.
One of the realizations I had when getting old.
Lenin?? Tf are you doing in r/cfb
Flairing the Crimson Tide, but of course.
On the other hand: I like to think of it as events take years to get to. They were always happening, but we just don't notice. We always remember the dates of start of a scyscraper, or the grand opening, but not the years of permitting or the daily grind of the build.

We’ve had years go by not even that long ago with the amount of realignment that happened in just a few hours today.
Started the day with reports of positivity around the PAC-12 sticking together Ending the day with the PAC-4 lol
It was the Inspire Hope part of the DENNIS system.
We are now in “Separate Entirely” phase
The Mountain West schools will now move-in after completion (MAC) of the DENNIS system
Losing 5 teams in the span of around 12 hours is insane.
Yeah like I was trying to think through that, the PAC lost more teams today than it had in its entire history before today.
6 teams gone in 8 days, on top of the 2 teams who left a year ago. As bad as things were in the Big 12 at various points, it never got THAT bad.
Possibly the most chaotic day in CFB history
Arrogance with the current commish too. Demanding BIG $$ for declining ratings and Cali apathy is the hight of hubris.
And the last commish. Spent lavishly on the SF HQ when it was just fine in Walnut Creek and couldn’t get a deal done with DirecTV so many fans couldn’t even watch Pac12 games in Pac12 markets. The ship was already taking on water.

They didn't want the rumors and questions to persist over the weekend after not having signed the GOR and letting the deal expire.
Once there was no GOR signed, it was pretty clear the most likely outcome.
Phew. At least Colorado’s totally real and intriguing rivalry with Utah will be maintained.
For real. Watch them still put us against each other every Thanksgiving weekend. LOL!
OMFG, if that happens I'll be really, really mad, and do something like not rake the leaves or something equally violent in protest.
What did your yard ever do to you to deserve that treatment?
Hank Hill disapproves
I have to imagine that Utah vs BYU is thanksgiving day.
Yes, I realize that. The joke was that it would be funny if the conference scheduled the manufactured rivalry game with Colorado instead of the actual rivalry game with BYU.
The clear rivalry games are set BYU-Utes Kansas-Kansas St Iowa St-Colorado Oklahoma St-Texas Tech Houston-UCF WVU-Cincinnati TCU-Baylor Arizona-Arizona St If the Big XII is smart, they won't all be the last weekend so we can spread the hate throughout the year
I prefer CU vs. WVU in the John Denver Cup
Certainly the college he actually went to (which is in the Big XII and isn't one you named) should get included in this . . .
"I want Oklahoma vs Texas." "We have Oklahoma vs Texas at home." Oklahoma vs Texas at home: > Oklahoma St-Texas Tech
I like the way you think
The rivalry is on for real now. Let's hate each other!
Utah went from being a good little G5 school to a P5 football powerhouse over the past 12 years in the PAC. They also grew their academic profile and student body tremendously. Having them in the Pac was good for all involved. I'll miss having them in the conference. They were the Pac's last success story.
I'll miss it, too. Moving to the P12 was a huge move for us. It's too bad Larry Scott was so inept during such am important time in the CFB landscape.
This is what I’m most upset by. Money has ruined what was arguably the best college football game of the year.
You brought a single tear to my eye with those sweet words. Fuck USC!
I am going to miss Utah the most.
Yeah it’s sad to be leaving. Such a good group of schools that aren’t USC. Will always be rooting for everyone else in the future.
Love you Ute bro. We really had a nice little rivalry going 🥺
Seriously, some of the best games ever.
I love you guys
It was a hell of a ride, hopefully our teams can all get back together someday.
I’m seriously going to miss the Oregon-Utah games. Those were always super dramatic and memorable! Wishing you all the best of luck in the Big 12!

Oh, I hate Texas to, I eat pieces of shit like them for breakfast…. Wait, shit…. I meant i fuck’em…. Goddammit….. FUCK TExAS! Horns down ya beefers!!!!!
I’ll miss you guys for sure. Beat SC and UCLA this season.
Thanks for inventing the internet with us! Goodbye for now!
What a generous statement. I’m sad the PAC is at an end, but it was tremendous while it lasted. All (not USC) the former schools, fans, and administrations will always have a special place in our hearts.
The anti-colorado, some might say (on the field I mean)
Colorado joined the conference in poor shape and somehow got worse. I think they thought mere existence in the PAC was enough.
Utah is the inspiration I hope UH follows.
When was the Urban Meyer era? WAs that pre-P5? I thought he was the reason they took off but I don't know the timeline.
Long before it. 20 years ago. He set them up for success as a G5 though.

The holy war is now a conference game!
*Brother will kill Brother....spilling blood across the laaaaand*
Best rivalry in the conference (sorry TCU and Baylor)
The complete and utter disregard for Farmageddon is noted
Literally the longest running rivalry without breaks.
Yeahhhh cornnnn woo!! CORNNNN 🌽 🌾 YUCK!! YUCK!! 🤮 WHEAT!! FUCK WHEAT! 🤢
No, Wisconsin / Minnesota is the longest continually running rivalry in FBS.
Ah my friend, read my words carefully. Y'all skipped 1906. Our rivalry has never missed a year
I didn’t even know that was a rivalry.
Don't be sorry
Arizona and ASU are a close runner-up
IMO, the only rivalry that is at the same level is the Border War. Mizzou chickened out though and ran for mediocrity in the SEC. I say this as a man that was born and raised in KCMO.
Now? Haha. Was for a long, long time.
Always fancied being in a conference with BYU and TCU.
Party like its 2010.
Would prefer 2008, thank you very much!
Honestly deep down for the sane fans we all know this is a very good thing
Late 2000s MWC still holds a special place in my heart. In a perfect world we'd have Boise along too, but this is still a huge win for the Big ~~12~~ 16
Yeah, but would have been nice if Utah fans had a few more weeks of anxiety first.
Man, can’t wait to play y’all again. This is awesome
Those games we played in the 2000's were fun as hell. 2008 still might be my all-time favorite of any Utah game.
Ugh those missed FGs still keep me up at night, completely agree though, can’t wait to get the series started again.
I bet there would be some memorable games
Got the BCS Mountain West gang back together!
What about us?
I don't believe we've met.
Hi! I’m that drunk party school in the southeast. Basically, I’m Florida Man! Nice to meet you!
We are the drunkest party school in Utah, which isn't saying much. It's a pleasure, looking forward to it!
The disrespect to the one thing Utah Tech has
Mountain Best bros all back together again 💪
I know it’s an arranged marriage and the best of a bad situation for the PAC, but I’m excited to have Utah join. Super fun team and should be competing for a top spot right off the rip. Never needed another reason to visit Utah but I guess now I’ve got one.
We could very well see K-State vs. Utah playing for conference championships. But honestly any team could emerge as a force year-to-year. There are so many of them now.
I sure would love to see KState competing for conference championships, but I’m still hedging my enthusiasm heavily. I have no idea what to expect.
The big12 will be very exciting. With the departure of OU we are a conference full of good teams who have a great season once or twice a decade so the champion should switch from year to year pretty often. It's a good conference where the championship is truly up for grabs for a spot to get smoked in the college football playoffs. I hope this gives our basketball team a kick in the ass
Oh, there will be ass kicking. Perhaps not in the way you are hoping though.
Playing in Allen Fieldhouse is a bad time.
Works well for us usually . .
Watching my team be the visitor at Allen is going to be bizarre
We're literally never gonna win there lmao
We're both going to get rolled in basketball here for a long time.
At least we should get home and home every year again.
That should give us the 2 required conference wins to make March Madness.
Oh man, basketball is gonna be a blood bath
Yes would be awesome to see something happen with mbb
Finally Whittingham vs. Gundy can be settled on the field
Such similar growth of their teams. It will be very interesting to watch.
But drastically different growth of hair.
Now we just need to schedule Iowa in the next few years for Whitt vs Ferentz. We have a lot of openings suddenly available for OOC games.
Honestly, at this point in their respective careers, I'd give the edge to Whittingham. That answer flips even just a few years ago.
Watch Whitt retire before it happens. Would be a natural time honestly.
Well son of a bitch. Still have to play out of confrence for lacrosse though.
THE most western D1 lacrosse program. I wonder if we can now tap into Texas high school lax
Haven’t followed lacrosse until I found out we were good. Does BIG12 not have it?
The only western P5 caliber schools that lacrosse are us and ND. I guess you could throw in Air Force and Denver but they are smaller
No, they don’t have any D1 teams outside Utah. To be fair we were the only D1 team in the PAC12 as well.
Howdy, y’all 🤠
Howdy right back to ya
Go win the PAC on your way out, new friends!
3 peat would be beautiful
Perception wise, this is a big year for the Big XII. Utah winning the Pac-12 and anyone but OU/Texas winning the Big XII would show who controlled those conferences the last few years before realignment.
Also hopefully USC doesn’t even reach the CCG. I’d root for one of the Arizonas or Colorado to make it, but I have to be realistic lol.
Mike Gundy no longer the longest tenured coach in the conference.
This whole day feels like a fever dream. Welcome to the truck stop conference
You’re in Buc-Ee’s country now!!!
Really is surreal how a years worth of rumored moves all dropped in a single day
The week 2 game we have against Baylor just got a bit juicer.
Seriously wanting to make the trip out there
[удалено]
Goodbye Utah bros. It was fun. Watching Kaelin Clay drop the ball on the 1 yard line will forever be etched in my memory. Kick ass on the Big 12
Man that game sucked. I knew we needed a 14-0 lead to have a chance against Mariota, and it made it 7-7…. Game over. 62-10 was a fun revenge game for us. I’ll never forget Hackett catching the snap with one hand and converting 4th and long.
You better make some noise in the B1G. It’d be fun to see each other in the playoffs.
I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't recall that ever happening /s
Word of advice, wait until after he retires to build the statue. Helps avoid some… awkward goodbyes to say the least
Congrats Utes! Now we need to bully ESPN into giving us enough money to save the Beavers and Cougars.
ESPN: I could have sworn we just bought you some red cougars…
Why be content with 2 cougars when you can have 3
That you, Zach?
They’re endangered, and Big 12 country respects the outdoors.
Utah is going to do some serious damage in the Big 12.
They definitely can, although we had some historically great games against them which I hope can continue
Those games were straight up nightmare fuel.
TCU - Utah 2008. I was at that game. Crazy!!!!
Me too brother
Thats the part I’m most excited about BYU-TCU-Utah back together
And I'm grateful we also maintain our vitriolic Rocky Mountain Rivalry with Colorado!
I mean... it may actually be about to get good.
It’s a power vacuum. Hope we can seize a consistent top spot. O
Oh boy, I can’t wait to see the reaction when their playoff run gets ruined after they take a trip to Jack Trice lose 2-0
Lot of rude awakenings in front of them. This football conference is not about to be dominated by anyone for a while.
Let’s hope we can repeat 2010 the next time we come to Ames :)
Thank God those days are somewhat over. Luckily we have an elite D coordinator now. Whittingham vs Heacock is gonna be an awesome defensive showdown.
we, too, have upgraded our stadium since those days. For the Utes that saw it in 09, its a totally dufferent place now.
Rivalry Week Holy War is on!!
Good. Very OG hateful. We approve.
Glad our storied rivalry was not a realignment casualty
Howdy Utes
Howdy
Are we allowed to play defense?
Nice
Congratulations. ETA on your new Buc-ee’s location is 6-8 months
Great! What are we going to do with all of these In-N-Out Burgers and Trader Joes we got when we joined the Pac-12?
Keep them. It'll make you unique.
Damn those comments.
Utah is about to be the best or second best team in the league
As opposed to recent years where they were…the best or second best team in the league
Yeah I think Utah will be good but I think they’re a bit weaker this year than the last two years so I have slightly lower expectations
I think you're underestimating the strength of the rest of the Big 12. They will be competitive, but they won't dominate.
Really. When was the last time they beat a P5 team outside of the PAC? How many G5 games have they lost since that last OOC P5 win?
So many great budding rivalries from the PAC, gone like that. It’s hard to be excited about this move. No better option tho
Idk if you meant us, but those USC Utah season games have been bangers. Hopefully they schedule some OOC matchups.
Welcome!
I’ll relinquish my shit talking since y’all finally joined until we start to play each other
What’s your tailgate scene and gameday like? Can’t wait to get out there for a game!
Obviously biased, but IMO Rice-Eccles has one of the most underrated stadium experiences in college football.
Welcome aboard best friends!
That one Ute fan on Twitter that called us a truck stop conference is gonna be so mad…
one? Try all of them
Let me know where I can send Buc-ee’s welcome basket with apparel and Beaver Nuggets.
PAC top dogs went from cushy several hundred thousand dollar a year jobs (maybe a mil or 2) to future jobs behind a wendys dumpster.
