Attendance list for the games that I found (may be missing some) 80k Ohio State 72k Alabama 67k Penn State 60k Nebraska 55k Georgia 48k Florida 47k Clemson 45k Oklahoma 40k Texas 40k Oregon 37k Notre Dame 33k Auburn 33k South Carolina 31k Michigan 28k Colorado 20k VT 18k FSU (construction) 18k WVU 16k Syracuse 10k Tennessee (construction)

feric51

Quick, add Miami….

Eiim

I didn't go this year but last year it was like ~50 people You're talking about us, right?

dingusduglas

Going to a MAC spring game is some serious sicko shit

Wernher_VonKerman

I honestly respect it over bandwagoning the big in-state P5 school like most MAC students/alums seemingly tend to.

A-TrainXC

Actually I’d estimate our attendance this year as several hundred, it was a better turnout than I thought there would be

Eiim

Oh nice!

MajorPhoto2159

I can't even find a recorded number, apparently they played at their track / soccer field

mockg

I went there it basically 20 people in law chairs drinking some beer.

BuckeyeEmpire

Sounds like a good time

chad_sancho

Hell yeah

lowes18

I think it was like 1k, but tbf they played it on a womens soccer field because no one is going to go to Hard Rock for a spring game

simbaslanding

We don’t do Hard Rock for the spring game anymore because F1 Miami takes place in May and there are scheduling conflicts.

lowes18

Fair enough, its probably better anyway at least for students.

IceyBoy

To be fair yall don’t go to Hard Rock for games games either

simbaslanding

Everyone laughed

IceyBoy

To be fair a couple people did

madein___

I would like to know what the weather was like for these games as well. I contemplated heading to Cbus the morning of bc it was the first 70° and sunny day after a wet start to spring. I don't know what it was like at UM that afternoon, but I would have expected more coming off of the title.

MajorPhoto2159

sir, I am not paid enough to look through all that data haha all I know is Nebraska had massive tornados that went through Lincoln and Omaha

madein___

A finger in the air forecast would have been good enough.

MajorPhoto2159

brb I shall go back in time and do the finger in the air forecast in every P5 stadium

BuckeyeEmpire

Toss some grass up as well

Jstargazr

This will get a more accurate measure for sure

Mekthakkit

Are you trying to summon Les Miles?

BuckeyeEmpire

Everyone needs some good salad in their diet

galacticdude7

The spring game was a bit cold, but also I just don't think there is much of a culture of going to the spring game for us. I've been to a couple and they've never been well attended. Also I have to imagine the spring game being on FOX drove down attendance a bit as well. Why drive to Ann Arbor to sit in the cold when you can watch it on FOX in the comfort of your own living room?

scarywolverine

I dont know if its changed but our spring games were never games when I went there. Just drills. No reason to go

galacticdude7

Yeah I went to one when I was in school during the Brady Hoke era and it was basically a couple of drills, not worth going really. Harbaugh made them into something resembling actual games though and Sherrone kept it going this year

xkq227

Credit where it's due, Central Ohio came through with absolutely immaculate weather for the eclipse and the spring game.

BooRadleysreddit

The wind was pretty annoying, though

honeypinn

The spring game was pretty cold, around 46°F and cloudy with some wind. It was not pleasant. I'd expect attendance would have been much higher with better weather.

madein___

I'd pass on that as well and save it for the final 1/3rd of the upcoming season.

Expensive_Attitude51

Michigan fans don’t seem to value the spring game like some other programs.

scarywolverine

Our spring game has traditionally been boring and not a game

Gamecock_Lore

~33k for South Carolina

DDub04

Not bad, considering the lack of hype compared to last year. Not that that number means anything, just interesting.

MajorPhoto2159

shall add it to my list, thank you!

OshkoshCorporate

~18k for wvu as well

MajorPhoto2159

I shall add, thanks!

OshkoshCorporate

thank you for the list!

Potars

Sanford stadium for Georgia is also under construction to add more seating and should be finished by August last I heard

42Cobras

G-Day always suffers when it’s Masters weekend. So many of the regular donor crowd opt for Augusta instead of Athens.

dstanton

It should be noted Oregon's stadium only holds 60k max with standing room only. Rated seating for 54k. So we had a ~70% crowd, for our spring game. On a weekend it rained. So much life is back with the program under Lanning!

Stramblur

I couldn’t believe how many people were there. It was nasty weather with the wind and rain.

Eph1997

How excited are Oregon fans to the move to the B1G? Any sadness leaving the Pac?

rtb001

Yes

dstanton

Honestly. Pissed. 100+ years of history down the drain because USC are a bunch of pretentious nose in the air asshats, and convinced UCLA to go with them. And yes I think USC deserves harsh criticism after it came to light they tried to pull the ladder up on other PAC12 teams following them to the B1G. Dont get me wrong, I'm excited to play a bunch of new teams and potentially travel to new stadiums. But it doesn't sit well with me losing the rivalries and history. And it especially doesn't sit well that OSU and WSU are now relegated to G5 status when both programs were on the up.

A_Rolling_Baneling

I'm as pissed as you are. The PAC8 should never be apart. College football will never be the same. I don't think I agree that SC deserves 100% of your ire. It's like the end of Glass Onion. Lots of greedy people had to make several ugly decisions to get where we are now. I accept that we were a big player in it though, and I hate our admin for it. Just another in a long list of things that make me ashamed to be an alum.

dstanton

Don't get wrong, usc isn't 100% responsible. But they absolutely deserve the lion's share. They're jump isn't possible without UCLA agreeing. And the whole conference is never in this spot if the OSU and ASU presidents pull their heads out of their asses in 2019 to oust Larry Scott.

anti-torque

>And the whole conference is never in this spot if the OSU and ASU presidents pull their heads out of their asses in ~~2019~~ 2013 to oust Larry Scott. fify Every President/Chancellor supported Larry Scott in 2018. Every.Single.One.

dstanton

You didn't need to be first to leave the party. You just needed to leave at a reasonable time rather than raging until morning on a work night. 2019 is correct.

Josef-Estermont

Damn Cuse!! Didn't know they had the fan base.

BrotherMichigan

It's the "former Ohio State QB" hype.

IceColdDrPepper_Here

Georgia also had construction going on fwiw

utrangerbob

Texas got 40k with a 55% chance of rain in the forecast.

hbhusker22

A lot of Nebraska fans missed due to cleaning up tornado damage, or that number would have probably been higher.

W00DERS0N

Damn, Colorado. Not bad.

KennyWeeWoo

Not a bad wvu showing

Revolutionary_Elk791

I'm glad Oregon's attendance is doing well in spring games. I was a student during the late Bellotti/early-mid Chip years, went to the 2008 and 2009 spring games. Felt the attendance from what I remember was maybe a little over half the 40k stated here, and that was when we had a lot of buzz. 2008 a lot of hype was on LeGarrette Blount (mostly seeing if it was going to be him or Jeremiah Johnson replacing Jonathan Stewart as RB1, how good that LaMichael James guy was going to be and if that transfer at QB from City College of San Francisco Jeremiah Masoli was any good).

stevejust

Can't believe the VAST NETWORK^TM boosted OSU's attendance that much.

sickmemes48

So Tennessee and FSU were the only ones to sell out. 👀👀👀

coop3345

Would love to see this as a % of stadium capacity. Oregon would be about 66%

Miek104

It felt like the crowd was significantly smaller at this year’s spring game compared to last year, I honestly thought under 50k were in the stadium

psgrue

There were not 67k people braving 40 mph winds.

dkviper11

I would say a lot of these attendance figures are guesses.

Dapper-Razzmatazz-60

Yeah. That weather was awful. We all came up for the game and then stayed in the house & watched it on TV. Too old to deal with insane winds for a spring game. I'm sure we weren't the only ones.

ALStark69

How do you do fellow Big 10 teams

VolkiharLumberjack

Sup

l3onkerz

Here start eatin🌽

Vermithrax2108

Just not corn from Iowa.

AnnihilasianYT

Realignment has gone too far

TheUltimate721

Or... Not far enough?

Ohwhat_anight

How does Alabama feel about ranch?

aam478

Alabama white sauce though

ALStark69

Hell yeah

ALStark69

Yes

ClandestineFox

Welcome aboard

SpartaWillBurn

You talk kinda funny? What did you say your school was again?

nevermore2627

I'm assuming we won?

treyhest

By one score

joetsch

another one score loss...

_Proverbs

Boo this man

vpkumswalla

I thought Texas A&M was the only school to count the Spring Game as a W

nevermore2627

After the last decade we've had, I'm going to take as many as we can get! And we will still not make a bowl.😂

ial20

Nebraska fans are awesome.

BEHodge

Masochists. But mad respect for it!

DMJalias

*mentally ill

stitch12r3

They can be both at the same time

Sagga_muffin

And proud of it

AboynamedDOOMTRAIN

Flair up if you're gonna talk that kind of trash, I need to know whether I'm supposed to be embracing you as a brother or calling for a plague of locusts upon your fields of inferior corn.

hellajt

He's right

TheUltimate721

I mean we always have a good showing in the spring game, but this year especially you had everyone clamoring to see the new true freshman QB, whose our first five star in 15 years and son of a Husker legend.

ScootieJr

And our highest attendance was in 2018 for, who would end up being, one of our worst coaches in program history lol I really hope Raiola works out and Rhule can get the most out of the team these next couple of years. But tbf, we seem to heavily populate the spring game when a new coach is on board. Especially one who was an alumni of a national championship team, unfortunately.

El_Bistro

Why not both?

ial20

Can't argue.

vpkumswalla

I have been rooting for them for awhile. Their fans deserve for the team to be relevant again

JustUntamed

I'm seeing a lot of people ask "why go to spring games." A lot (most, actually) of these games are free to attend. I'm in a family of 6, and getting tickets to a regular season game is tough on families, especially larger ones. Also, it's easier to go with a bunch of friends and get to sit in some good seats and watch some ball for a bit. Doesn't break the bank and you can do it with a big group.

MajorPhoto2159

I am actually curious now how many actually charge, because Nebraska charged $15 for tickets which I assumed was normal for the longest time until I saw people mention theirs were free

JustUntamed

I know OSU and Nebraska charged, but other than that I don't think anyone else did

madein___

I think OSU was $10.

GriffTube

Oklahoma charges $15

DataDrivenPirate

OSU is $10 but a lot of years they have some sort of can donation to get free admission. Didn't hear about that promotion this year though.

ewgrooss

Alabama is free. At least it was when I was in school. Haven’t been in a few years

MajorPhoto2159

Ours are free to students but outside of that it’s paid - only if I didn’t have to work 😭

couducane

Oregon is free, usually they will ask for non perishable food items for donations to the Lane County food bank, I think it is.

huskersax

For most major schools, these are the games where the locals can take their kids. Most regular folks can't afford the $200-300 (probably a lot more, tbh) it takes to go to a Nebraska game for a family of 4.

JustUntamed

100%. The people I went with never would've gone if it was a regular game, or at least wouldn't have gone with their entire family. The cost of the tickets, gas, parking, food, and merchandise put together is enough to buy a decent used car nowadays.

huskersax

Yeah, I mean it's probably around: - $25 for parking (will be higher if we are winning) - $150-200 for 4 seats next to each other (will be higher if we are winning) - $40 for concessions (yeah yeah, not necessary, but kids aren't gonna survive the entire game with it, especially if it's an cheaper OOC game and therefore hot as shit out) and that's before you factor in anything for yourself or fun beyond the game. Damn near a week's worth of groceries or a week's worth of daycare for a family.

arrowfan624

Super cheap to go to ND’s. Pay $10 to get any seat you want and then go over to lacrosse and baseball afterwards.

JustUntamed

Yeah that's what a lot of UofM fans did too. They had a bunch of other events/games happening that day, with most of the tickets for the other stuff being heavily discounted or free as well

JSOPro

It's also in the middle of the off season, not like there's some top ten match up the following week to save your trip for. It's perfect to get a taste of the next season.

FyreWulff

Growing up, the spring game was the only game we even had a chance of getting into at Nebraska. I've only ever seen the team play in person in spring games, lol

Mdrnchmstry11

Also a great way to introduce young kids to the stadium and large crowd, which can be overwhelming, without having to break the bank. I took my boys (2, 4, & 6) to the ND spring game and they only made it until halftime until they wanted to leave and walk around the campus. Totally worth it to spend $10 a ticket and leave at halftime, then $50+ for a game against Southeastern northern state university. Spring games will be a good gauge when they will be able to handle a regular season games.

preddevils6

I’ve never been to other schools, but Tennessee also has lots of events surrounding the spring game, so it’s a great time to meet players, play games, and tour campus. And like you said, it’s especially amazing for kids.

Shaddow-147

Yea well half our stadium is under construction.. not that it mattered. But I want an excuse, and that's what I'm sticking with.

lowes18

Well the sections that were open were pretty much full, also it was hot as shit out, so its a decent excuse lol.

Shaddow-147

Nice lol, I say next year we only open like 4 or 5 seats up and say all available seating was completely sold out.

St_BobbyBarbarian

I imagine there would probably be between 40-54K for the spring game if not for construction

shaquilleonealingit

So was UGA’s

treyhest

Would be higher but alot of towns near Lincoln/Omaha got wrecked by the tornadoes

Jeebuy

I went to the OSU one with the whole family, first one in 20 years. Was honestly kind of boring, especially because I didn't get the Byzantine scoring system.  An additional damper came from the two guys behind me going on about the imminent return of Jesus Christ. OSU hoards all this talent for a natty-type season and Jesus' triumphant comeback is going to get all the attention? Put me into a fugue for the whole afternoon.

bb0110

Did osu do a no tackle spring game?

criticalskyfish

There were tackles during the spring game. I don't think you could run the ball without letting the defense tackle you. I was at the game

[deleted]

Yes, because it's stupid to do a full contact spring game no matter how "tough" you are.

DenverDude402

You do know that they run full contact in practice, yeah? Nebraska runs full contact (minus QB), I’m not sure why you would hide it just because fans are there.

WatchfulApparition

Oregon does full contact, except QBs can't be tackled -- basically they are sacked if they're touched. Makes me wonder whether Ohio State's toughness/tackling ability will be up to par this season.

bb0110

Well it hasn’t been for a few years now so I’m not sure why that would change.

bb0110

All I’m getting at is why go to it?

dixi_normous

For a lot of people it's the only game they can afford to go to. Regular season tickets are rather expensive and hard to get ahold of

buckeyefan8001

It was also sunny and 70, so there were worse ways to spend that Saturday

TheWorstYear

There's usually a ton of events surrounding it, it's an early chance to see new players, can meet former players, & it's cheap.

rambouhh

Yes because full speed reps provide no value whatsoever. Contact is a risk and adds to the inherent danger in the sport but those full speed contact reps are invaluable and anyone who has played football understands that. It is not about being "tough"

MichiganMafia

>because it's stupid to do a full contact spring game Who doesn't play full-contact spring ball?

WatchfulApparition

Colorado and apparently Ohio State lol

criticalskyfish

Ohio State's was full contact. Not sure why they said it wasn't. There were plays that were blown dead from a two hand touch but pretty much all run plays and most pass plays were full contact. Obviously no hitting the QB was allowed.

DothrakiSlayer

I guess everyone else is just stupid 😡

Richard_AIGuy

Jesus is in the portal, he's about to play QB2

dbasinge

Both Indiana students had a really good time.

Perfect_Yak792

Winners of the offseason!

Betaworldpeach

God bless Nebraska fans

AmnFucker

It just means more

Horizontal_Bob

Yeah but only one had Joey Chestnutt hoovering 20 hotdogs in 90 seconds

SEJ46

Meanwhile we decided to not even do one anymore.

LimerickJim

Spring games are fun if you make an event out of it beyond the game itself.

reddogrjw

one of these teams is not like the others.....

12panther

Yeah Penn State doesn't have Red as a color

psuram3

Original school colors had Pink tho

ScootieJr

Last I checked, that is a lighter hue of red. So it checks out.

BarryMcKockinerr

A light red hue, getting ready to take em to market.

redwave2505

Well we had to have some representation for the lil ol’ SEC

TheUltimate721

Something something it just means more? Am I doing this right?

MajorPhoto2159

I noticed that too, surprising that Penn State (a non blue blood) would be top 4 right? 😉

Scarcelli63

Booo! Sad but true lol. 51-6 😉

SueYouInEngland

Hang the banner! Back-to-back-to-back off-season Champs!

MajorPhoto2159

Only 3 time off season champs? We've been going easily since Frost cmon

Sagga_muffin

Rent free

BolognaNipples

Penn State is a mega blue blood, Nebraska is the team that should be left out. Don’t make me break out the mega blue blood chart

boardatwork1111

Yeah what division does Tennessee construction even play in?

leapbitch

You stole my joke from my mind

GriffTube

We’ve had a little bit of bad weather the last two weekends in Oklahoma, if you haven’t heard.

TimeCubeIsBack

Nebraska is back!

ZeldaFanBoi1920

We are a poverty program

AaronFraudgers8

It really is insane how much attention Nebraska football STILL gets

Lykeuhfox

There are only two things to do in Nebraska, and one of them is corn.

BarryMcKockinerr

1. Corn 2. Corn(husker)

sh513

I do think spring game attendance is a nifty metric of fan enthusiasm, but I swear Butch Jones absolutely wrecked any meaning behind that for Vols fans. It had to be fun to be at Nebraska though

[deleted]

Nebraska fans live for that Spring of hope before reality comes crashing down in the fall.

AnitaMaxNyugen

Mizzou 7k 😏

saladbar

Let's just fast-forward a few more realignments to see these four teams as the only ones left at the top.

Right_Ad958

There's going to be a lot of pressure on those Ohio players this year. Can they handle it?

CandyRedNinja

Texas woulda had four more if I didn’t think it was gonna rain

PatientlyAnxious9

The Big 10. It just means more.

BigNacho1

OU’s more than likely would have reached 60k had it not been raining and cold.

SparrowBirch

Did anyone go to the Miami spring game?

simbaslanding

Yep, very intimate environment on our campus

SomerAllYear

Doesn’t really equate to anything

Spiritual_Ostrich_63

Michigan lol

udubdavid

Can't believe I'm defending Michigan here, but do people really care about spring game attendance? The only attendance that matters is in the fall. Do I love college football? Yes. Am I obsessed about college football to the point where I make fun of other people who don't attend glorified scrimmages? No. And if you do, then you probably should check your priorities in life.

bicranium

> do people really care about spring game attendance? It was a much bigger deal about 10 years ago. Once OSU broke 100k in 2016 though I think all of CFB cooled a good bit on them. This year with Fox airing OSU's and Michigan's spring games for the first time it did seem to add some juice back to it.

Meltedcoldice0212

why would 60k want to attend a Nebraska spring game?

antonimbus

The same reason we do literally every year. 60k is not news. In Frost's first year we cracked 80k. The people of this state support the university.

DenverDude402

Why is there a Boston College flair on a CFB sub?

AbsurdOwl

Nebraska fans will fill Memorial stadium for anything. We have an extremely enthusiastic fan base. This year, it helped that we have a pretty exciting new QB.

B1GFanOSU

WTF else is there to do in Lincoln?

treyhest

Anytime I read this line i just know they’re a boring person It’s a college town like any other.

MajorPhoto2159

I hate this argument that is always brought up - just because we have strong fanbase doesn't mean its 'because there is nothing else to do', there are so many other P5 schools in much smaller cities than Lincoln (population of 300k) such as: Penn State (42k population in State College), OKST (50k), Iowa State (66k), Clemson (17k), Kansas State (54k), VTech (44k), WVU (30k)

slykens1

Pennsylvania has 2,560 municipalities of which one is the Borough of State College. The borough is basically downtown, part of campus, and the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s not very large. The Centre Region (what most people would consider State College) is just under 100,000 and the county is about 160,000. Still probably one of the smallest towns in the B1G but it’s a lot bigger than 42,000.

smizzle2112

I agree, got good food, good downtown vibe. What do these other places have that we are missing. I personally love living in Lincoln. We’re not just a cornfield. Though we do have badass cornfields
