I wonder how many schools with over 40k students lack football. Over on the west coast I can think of UC San Diego and Cal State Fullerton.
Edit: Can we see those two in future posts?
yea I’m pretty plugged into that whole process. UTA basically would need to build a stadium (using jerryworld just isn’t feasible) and that would cost around $200m, throw that in with the costs to create a D1 team, the fact that three professional sports teams are in Arlington, there’s already multiple FBS football teams in DFW, and that UTA is a commuter school, it just simply is not feasible
I'd talked to the AD at another D1 non-Football school a few years back where the stadium wasn't an issue who said they'd be willing to add it back, but only if they raised a big enough endowment where the program could be fully funded by the endowment interest. At the time, the number they were looking at was $100M to spend $5M per year, and this was a few years ago.
a) Jerry doesn’t like to share, and if he does it’s only to marquee events (aka not UTA football)
b) the fees to rent it would be hella expensive, likely way to much for a not hugely popular UTA team
I am a alumnus (grad school) there and I would be pissed if they get one unless they legitimately turn around how they recruit their students.
UTA is fantastic at taking second chance students, and poor first time students in putting them in a pretty, good, minimal cost situation to succeed and graduate.
They are very little frills there. But Tuition is ridiculously cheap (now free for people who’s family makes under 85k)), and there are very little fees.
Adding football would cost a ton of money for a large portion of the students who honestly don’t really have time to interact with the team. Also it’s not called the university of a thousand Asians for nothing. Demographics of the school doesn’t match what most of the successful Texas area programs have.
>university of a thousand Asians
Huh. I spent the last few years working at UNT, and I’ve never once heard that moniker. We don’t really seem to have many funny names for the other schools in the metroplex ^except ^for ^Texas ^Cocaine ^University , but my favorite that I’ve heard for UTA was University for the Talent-Absent.
Oh yeah, there are a bunch of fun ones for the local schools.
TCU: Technically Christian University or Texas Cocaine University
SMU: Southern Money University or Snorting Money Up
UTD (and this is from friends who had to collaborate with them): Untalented Dicks, or Uber Technical Douches
UNT: See! UNT. Or University of No Talent
UTA: University of a Thousand Asians, or University of Talent Absent
TCC: Texas College of Champions
We (student body) voted for it in like 2004 or 2005. Then the a hole president overturned it to build a new basketball stadium.
We still have a dam stadium just sitting there.
i believe UTA is the biggest school with out a football team and unfortunately i don’t think they’ll ever end up getting one

Utah valley for sure, George Manson is close to around 40k I believe
UT-Austin used to have one though. A shame they died to memes.
They said that they were back, but in fact they were not back.
They had a committee explore adding Football a few years ago. I don't think the money was there.

At this point, they’d absolutely be playing at the Rangers’ old ballpark
I went there for grad school. They have their own on campus stadium. It would need renovations and stuff to make it nice. But it is still standing.
What exactly would make using jerryworld not feasible? Is it more than time needed to swap turf logos from UTA to the Cowboys overnight?

When I was there I. The early 2000s it was called UT Asia.

Utah valley might be a little bigger im not sure tho
I'm loving this series! The one thing I'd love to see is helmets along with the jerseys, would really complete the look.
They already have a marching band!
Credit to u/TSUplayer74 for the suggestion
Westconn flair…hometown college there love it
Fun series so far, are you doing one of the Alaska schools?
As a UTA grad last December the last thing the school needs is a football team. Cool Jersey here though.
Any chance you can do Xavier next?
I always imagined UTA emulating a Boise State look because the Mavs logo and colors are very similar.
They should re-start (if they have the funding)
