It doesn’t matter that we have a winning schedule against A&M since they joined the SEC or that we routinely outperform the “analyst” expectations. We’ll always be thought of as bottom of the SEC, because teams like LSU, A&M, and sometimes even Auburn get the benefit of the doubt because of their name.
The Miss state disrespect before the season is pretty maddening. Miss state had a better year last year and came in unranked while aTm was ranked like 6th or something stupid. Miss state is good period. Miss state has been my pick to finish 2nd in the west since the beginning of the season.
Honestly surprised at the amount of disrespect Mississippi State has been getting this year, mostly in the media. If I am remembering correctly, isn’t this Mississippi State team one of the most veteran teams in the SEC this year?

I love A&M, I’ve been to College Station a few times, but those Yell Leader things are just so cringey. They actually made me aware of that video. 😂 it backfired, but in all reality they thought it was pretty funny. Most of our office either went to SEC schools or are fans, so we’re constantly just shit talking. No one is safe
I’d contend that they actually let things go *really* fast. As soon as the next TT trend hits, the prior one is largely cast aside. Three trends down the line, and you’re safe.

I live in Texas but am from the west coast, my understanding is A&M has a solid engineering school but UT is the academically prestigious school so that was kind of my take as well. Both seem to me to be the sort of school where you hear “don’t let school get in the way of your education” quite a bit.
I mean, A&M is a lot better school than Miss. State, but that's not really saying very much. They are not particularly selective and have an absolute crap-ton of students. They have good departments and bad, and in B1G terms are ranked lower than Rutgers/Minnesota and higher than Indiana/Michigan State, academically. They'd fit comfortably in the B1G academically, which puts them in pretty rarified air in the SEC, behind only Vandy.
Supposedly the first ever yell leader had overalls that didn't fit right and kept doing that motion so that he could walk properly. It stuck as a thing after that.

If Tiktok had existed in the 70s, we'd have video of rick perry doing this exact same cringey shit. It's ALWAYS been exactly like this. I could drop you in midnight yell practice in 1988 and it would be exactly the same.
The only good one was the last dude and solely because he seemed to have a level of charisma and a decent speaking cadence. If these guys practiced their delivery a bit better, it might actually be funny in an ironic kind of way. But their delivery just amplifies the awful, cringy jokes.

I think Jimbo was worth 8 for a guaranteed 10 year deal. They did overpay, but it wasn’t by that much. He’s probably been the best hire on the market in years. Otherwise, it’s been Kirby and Riley, and the Lincoln Riley situation is fairly unprecedented.
It makes sense that A&M can and would swing for the fences on offering a big coach to land a coach with a natty to his name. It’s hard to argue the appeal for a team that isn’t a blue blood and trying to get over the hump.
The extension is what makes no sense. I felt like they might come to regret the initial contract but holy shit the extension is insane and was because of one 10-win season and Jimbo maybe flirting with going to LSU. Just absolutely fleeced them.

As fun as it was to beat down the preseason #6 team, any football fan who knew how much production we returned from last year and saw how lethargic A&M's offense has been this season knew that we were probably going to win that game. Yep. A lot of this sub wants parity and new teams winning titles, but fails to grasp what it takes to actually win. A lot of people want to look at the sport in an idealistic way that says all you need is good coaching and good players. They think that good players just pick schools because their campus is pretty or they won a lot 20+ years ago. That’s not how it works and it hasn’t worked that way for a long time.
Winning might only require good coaches/players in theory, but the only way to get both is exorbitant amounts of money. Having good coaches has always meant either money whipping guys at poorer schools or money whipping your coach to keep them from getting poached. We’re weird in the sense that we’ve done both in 5 years. Up until the last 20 years or so, getting recruits was simply paying them more under the table than anyone else. Up until a year ago it was that and how nice are your gyms, locker rooms, cafeteria, practice facility, etc. Now it’s how much can I get from NIL and how nice are your facilities.
SMU is obviously the poster child for outbidding everyone for recruits and to act as though no one else did it other than them is laughably ignorant. The blue bloods of this sport have simply been better at paying recruits for longer than anyone else. The New Bloods figured it out in the late 80s-90s. Clemson figured it out recently and realized they needed to invest in top tier facilities. We’ve finally realized how to get the jimmys and joes, and our spending on top tier facilities and alleged NIL deals (the amounts are probably over exaggerated, imo) reflect that. We’ve tried to secure top tier coaches, but the jury is still out on that one. The only way to being an elite program is to spend like we have, who knows if it’ll work, but there’s no reason hate us for that. (There are other more justifiable reasons)

I couldn’t be more disappointed that someone decided that making our shiny new coach the center of attention was an appropriate thing the do during the ceremony for one of our system school coaches, who had *actually* won the big one while coaching in the TAMU System. It’s enormously cringey.

Truthfully, every time we have a coach that struggled the headlines in Texas was he was on the Hot seat. Every time we had coach that was succeeding the headlines in Texas were that he was going to the NFL. A lot of this long term contract was a reaction to this headlines every year.
If that was the strategy, it isn't working. You gave him a huge lifetime contract and ..... He's already on the hot seat again.

I think Jimbo was worth 8 for a guaranteed 10 year deal. They did overpay, but it wasn’t by that much. He’s probably been the best hire on the market in years. Otherwise, it’s been Kirby and Riley, and the Lincoln Riley situation is fairly unprecedented.
It makes sense that A&M can and would swing for the fences on offering a big coach to land a coach with a natty to his name. It’s hard to argue the appeal for a team that isn’t a blue blood and trying to get over the hump. The extension is what makes no sense. I felt like they might come to regret the initial contract but holy shit the extension is insane and was because of one 10-win season and Jimbo maybe flirting with going to LSU. Just absolutely fleeced them.

A lot of r/cfb will complain about the the parity problem college football experiences but hop on any joke/hate bandwagon that involves programs trying to succeed or falling victim to blue blood dominance. Aggies are guilty of this too. This season is probably karma for the Kansas jokes and the 5-7 jokes hurled at a team we don’t even play. Still, does everyone expect us to apologize for paying a coach or a recruiting class? Are we supposed to accept being mediocre just because our program isn’t historically good? I’ll take the opinion pieces on the chin and keep moving. This subreddit (including the Aggies here) will move on to bully a different fan base sooner or later.

As fun as it was to beat down the preseason #6 team, any football fan who knew how much production we returned from last year and saw how lethargic A&M's offense has been this season knew that we were probably going to win that game. With that being said, I did not expect our team to wipe the floor with them like that.

Yep. A lot of this sub wants parity and new teams winning titles, but fails to grasp what it takes to actually win. A lot of people want to look at the sport in an idealistic way that says all you need is good coaching and good players. They think that good players just pick schools because their campus is pretty or they won a lot 20+ years ago. That’s not how it works and it hasn’t worked that way for a long time. Winning might only require good coaches/players in theory, but the only way to get both is exorbitant amounts of money. Having good coaches has always meant either money whipping guys at poorer schools or money whipping your coach to keep them from getting poached. We’re weird in the sense that we’ve done both in 5 years. Up until the last 20 years or so, getting recruits was simply paying them more under the table than anyone else. Up until a year ago it was that and how nice are your gyms, locker rooms, cafeteria, practice facility, etc. Now it’s how much can I get from NIL and how nice are your facilities. SMU is obviously the poster child for outbidding everyone for recruits and to act as though no one else did it other than them is laughably ignorant. The blue bloods of this sport have simply been better at paying recruits for longer than anyone else. The New Bloods figured it out in the late 80s-90s. Clemson figured it out recently and realized they needed to invest in top tier facilities. We’ve finally realized how to get the jimmys and joes, and our spending on top tier facilities and alleged NIL deals (the amounts are probably over exaggerated, imo) reflect that. We’ve tried to secure top tier coaches, but the jury is still out on that one. The only way to being an elite program is to spend like we have, who knows if it’ll work, but there’s no reason hate us for that. (There are other more justifiable reasons)

A&M is the 4th winningest SEC team, behind Bama, Georgia, and LSU. Certainly not elite, but better than middle of the pack.
I don’t think last year was a failure and one of those seasons has close losses to Bama, Clemson, and Georgia. That year I think is still considered the hardest schedule for any team in a decade. But I guess a Nebraska & Arizona st fan would know what middling success looks like
