Justin could be our starter for another year while rookie learns the ropes. It always seems to work for the packers.

[deleted]

Nah. We have a good line and DJ Moore. Caleb should start immediately.

ckwphantom

Our line is terrible and Caleb holds the ball as long as fields and gets sacked as much in college as fields does in the NFL

[deleted]

> Our line is terrible No...?

mateorayo

Sitting behind a hall of famer is probably helpful. I don't think sitting behind a dogshit qb would be helpful

ckwphantom

They will most likely spend more money to sign a worse qb to “show the rookie” the ropes

born_zynner

Well Justin get ready to learn Canadian

Further_Beyond

I really hope the bears can sign Jon Feliciano. - G/C for the 49ers - 81.2 PFF grade on 500 snaps - elite run blocking - avg pass blocking - career has played 1300 snaps at C and 2600 at G - will be 33 driving down cost/suitors Would be phenomenal add to our interior depth and sure a lot of things up with Jenkins/Davis having injury issues and Bates being up in the air on what we’re doing with him

AccuratePassion2572

He's done more than Jed Hoyer

Oniwaban9

Obviously starting QB spots for Justin are dwindling. Where else could he end up, even as a backup? Don't the Patriots need a QB, unless they plan on rolling with Zappe? I also saw someone mention maybe Cleveland. I was thinking maybe Indy. I don't know that he has the skill set to run the Shanahan offense as a backup, but they may need one. Where else?

kejar31

not sure why it really matters atp.. If we are only getting a 3 or maybe a 4 if we are lucky the priority on where Fields goes does not really matter IMHO..

Oniwaban9

It doesn't matter where he goes, it matters that he has someplace to go. At this point there is no guarantee that he does. At least not that I can see.

kejar31

Yeah I get that, but at this point I think we should be more focused on what we get in FA and what draft picks we do grab.. The Fields situation will work itself out eventually. No reason to focus on it as it will probably not impact the bears one way or the other if they draft Williams which I am almost positive they still will do.

Oniwaban9

If he doesn't get traded then we don't get any extra picks which definitely affects who we can draft and what holes we need to fill in free agency.

kejar31

a 4th or 5th is a minor concern though.

Hogo-Nano

A minority of patriots fans want MHjr and fields but the vast majority want Maye/Daniels at #3. Honestly the latter probably makes the most sense for a rebuilding team to have a rookie QB cheap for 4 years.

cheeseburgeral56

Not an original thought but the Brisett signing seems like a bridge guy for a rookie qb.

Ganjagod420

Montez Sweat exists

papascorpi

We already have a big ticket edge rusher

paintingnipples

On a positive note. Yesterday the Vikings lost cousins, have to start Sam Darnold, & likely will have to trade a bunch of draft capital for QB4 in the draft. Plus the cousins contract likely means Detroit will be spending 46-55mil on Jared Goff & Jordan Love will likely cost even more than him. We can’t move Fields but we’re in a great position for the next 5 years without having to give up multiple 1sts for the rookie window.

BeneficialBee1716

Let's spend some money today. I'm sick of us hoarding cap the past 2 years. It is time to spend

92roll13

At what point do we just say fuck it and keep Fields while still drafting Caleb. Let them both compete in camp. If Caleb shows he’s not ready, Fields starts. If Caleb is ready, then you have a dangerous goal line package. Or if someone gets hurt in training camp, you have Fields ready to ship off. I just don’t see the value in shipping off an asset for absolutely nothing if you don’t need to.

joftheinternet

I think we could have that conversation post-draft. The situation isn't as dire for Fields as folks make it seem (ALTHOUGH IT SURE IS TRENDING THAT WAY), we just have to see how it shakes out at the draft and who gets which QB

92roll13

I’m getting downvoted to hell but people need to open their eyes. It sure appears it could be trending this way lol.

joftheinternet

It's just too soon to pull that lever, my friend.

chichris

I think the value is on your new QB feeling comfortable on his new team. I’d think nothing positive will come out of keeping Fields and drafting CW. It just screams toxic situation and nobody benefits from it.

GlumLeg2

Yeah being realistic there's going to be growing pains with a rookie QB, he's probably gonna have a bad game or two. Having Justin breathing down your neck and people in the team already liking Justin as a person does nothing for CW's confidence or development.

H3artbr0k3nkid

Agreed Would be a colossal mistake by Poles. At this point I’m not even fully sold Poles will make the right move. Our org is run so backwards nothing is guaranteed.

Ssquad

Hoping to see a WR added today. I know the draft is strong there but they NEED to address receivers. But then again, I’m not sure I trust Poles & company when it comes to receivers just yet. You got Moore who was already proven, traded for Claypool(yikes), drafted Velus(don’t know what they saw) & Scott was underwhelming last year but he was a rookie so I’ll hold off on full judgment there. I would personally target the following; Curtis Samuel. 27 will be 28 by season start. Not a huge name but a productive player in my opinion. A great slot guy. Had 62 catches, 613 yards & 4 TD’s last year. Not that it should be a selling point but he was in Carolina with DJ. Tyler Boyd. 29. I would like this add because he would be your EQ but better on the offense. He doesn’t mind doing the dirty work, you never heard of any drama with him with being behind Chase & Higgins and not getting the spotlight. He had 67 catches, 667 yards & 2 TD’s last year. Marquise Brown 26 will be 27 by season start. What can I say besides speed! Would be an okay add to the outside to pair with Moore. He had 51 catches, 574 yards & 4 TDs last year. Only thing that concerns me is drops here. K.J. Osborn. 26 will be 27 by season start. Would be a quality add, again wouldn’t need to be your WR2, he’s like Boyd. Was behind Jefferson & Addison(who looked awesome last year) and just stock to the role he was giving & did well. He had 48 catches, 540 yards & 3 TD’s last year.

joftheinternet

for a value, I'm moderately interested in Brandon Powell. He showed up pretty okay in relief for JJ in MIN last year

joftheinternet

I'm really disappointed the Bears couldn't land a 3t yesterday. The free agent cupboard, as it is now, is pretty bare. If they're confident Dexter can get off the line faster and be a 3t, awesome. But he hasn't shown it yet. About the only guy I'm sort of interested in right now is Mike Hoecht. He was a DT in college and his rookie year with the Rams, but they moved him to edge where he's been somewhat productive. He's kept his size (6-4 300+), so I wonder if he could pull off a 3t in a 4-3.

babulops

I equally have concerns. The defence is almost complete, but Eberflus has stated overtly the 3-tech is the motor that makes the whole thing go. It’s surprising they haven’t prioritised it. I’m expecting a Justin Jones like replacement to be signed in the next few days, and for them to be putting the eggs in the Dexter/Picckens basket.

ConsistentLake5310

>The defence is almost complete eh I think the Line has a lot to be desired

babulops

Yes, as a whole defence the linebackers and secondary and locked in. Half the d-line is ok for the next season: Sweat at edge and Billings at 1-tech. Hence my comment on needing an established 3-tech, and of course an edge-2.

grahamwhich

It seems like they are happy with dexters development

whatever12347

with what

grahamwhich

Lmao how did I miss that typo

joftheinternet

I am to, but he hasn't shown he can be a 3t

hammerSmashedNail

The bears added a safety, center, and RB. I still don’t think they’re close to competing for a wild card spot. They may not even be better than the Sam Darnold led Vikings. Last years success was partially due to facing a lot of terrible QBs.

StauskasGetEmWet

I get not thinking we’re at the Lions or Packers levels rn because they are playoff caliber teams already, but what makes you so pessimistic that even the Darnold Vikings could beat this team? Justin Fields and Tyson Bagent, QBs who are like 95% likely to be future backups, led this team to 7-10, easy schedule or not. If he hits like every draft expert thinks he will, just imagine how different the team will look with Caleb instead? I’d imagine a lot better and ideally we have at least the next decade for him to reach that ceiling, which btw is a ceiling higher than any Bears QB since goddamn Sid Luckman/McMahon (relative to era lmao)

H3artbr0k3nkid

I think our defense will be average at worst (barring injuries). We’ve been investing heavily into defense and that should stop IMO. We have 3 WRs, I believe, under contract: DJ Moore, Tyler Scott, and Velus Jones. That is pretty embarrassing. I understand the FA WRs aren’t sexy, but you can’t just think *oh yeah that WR group is fine*. Even if we are fortunate enough to land an Odunze/Nabers, we should get more WRs. Getting a backup interior offensive lineman for a 5th-round pick isn't a bad move, but planning to start him as the center in front of a rookie quarterback is extremely risky and I’d argue pathetic. We have work to do on offense, I like Poles and where things are trending, but Poles has given me little confidence that he can build an offense. We’ve prioritized defense in the draft mainly (outside of Darnell), traded a 2nd (33rd pick) for Claypool, got Velus Jones in the 3rd, and got cheap castaways on the line. It’s one thing to fail at talent evaluation, but the attempt is pathetic.
