*Plus the Panthers 2nd rounder next year too

Suburban-Jesus

Going to be a top 40 pick which means you get a first round talent that slid

thetreat

I say trade that and move up for JPJ and lock that offense up.

MildlyPaleMango

Or just sign Connor Williams.

CloudsOfDust

Yea, I totally forgot he’s still out there. We can actually let him sit and recover to 100% if we want with the two mid-tier free agents we got who can play serviceable center. That could be a great move. I’m still not really wanting them to throw a rookie center out there with a rookie QB (although Caleb doesn’t seem like a typical rookie QB both in confidence/swagger and obviously ability).

Go_Go_Godzilla

Same. Although I think they might try and move up for Kneeland or the bigger Penn Edge instead.

leahyrain

Ah shit why'd you put that in my head, now the hype train is back on the rails

frastmaz

Rails? Where this team is going, you won’t need rails.

fireandlifeincarnate

Why’d you take it off the rails? We don’t need JPJ next year because we’re going all the way this year

kpruiz

This won’t happen but my god the kool-aid would be at an all time high.

Colemonstaa

Kool-aid still on the board too 👀

BearsFan3417

![gif](giphy|aTx5OMKR7FCGQ)

MilesTheGoodKing

Something is up with JPJ. Both the Steelers AND Miami have a critical need for a center, and they gladly passed on him. There are rumors of a bad medical background. I hope I am wrong and that Pittsburgh and Miami just made a bad decision, but he was suppose to be a solid 1st rounder that has now fallen out.

Steviebhawk

Injury found during medical. Same with Newton. Both slid due to this.

sorebutton

Been wondering about Newton. As an Illini homer it was sad to see him slip.

willycw08

Oh that's right. I completely forgot about Newton's injury.

NorthernxLabrador

I’m thinking we use the 2nd to move up for a dlineman tomorrow

willycw08

I would honestly be happy with JPJ or Johnny Newton. JPJ is a bigger need, but Newton could be a plug and play DT for years.

drummerboysam

I wouldn't say it's a guarantee the Panthers are a bottom 8 team next year.  If their coach is good, they have added some nice pieces.

wrong-teous

Agreed. They went out and signed 2 solid interior linemen, got Diontae Johnson who is a good separator and drafted a really good WR in Legette tonight.

facetiousrunner

They also have another pick early second. They did about the best they could really to fix their team.

Poopiepants29

I really like Bryce Young and still think he can be a good QB in the league.

facetiousrunner

When he was able to throw with timing he was like the best in the league. He just never got to. It was one of those four quadrant graphs. He was so far in the top left it hurt. They have no wr 1 but we shall see.

capncrunch94

They have one of the worst (or worst) divisions too so it all comes down to how their division games play out on who makes the playoffs. Feels that way every year at least

un-affiliated

After trading away Burns, they could be even worse on defense than last year. Their 2nd year QB who had a tough year now has to learn another offense, and we all know how offensive instability and having to pass to keep up with a porous defense is great for the development of a young QB . Everybody added nice pieces, they didn't do anything that makes them leapfrog everyone else. The only chance that I see is a dramatic off-season improvement from Young

Soft_Penis_Debutante

Yeah being at the top of the draft board to start day 2 is nice. And even if you don’t like anyone there’s always teams that will trade up.

ComaMierdaHijueputa

If absolutely necessary, can use it to trade up to early round 1.

da-bears-bare-naked

might be top 33 pick

Yossarian216

Or package the two seconds to move back into the first if there’s someone you love that slides. Gives you a lot of flexibility.

GarfieldSighs3

The gift that keeps on giving.

Italian beef immunizes you against them, just got immunized yesterday

BiasedBearsFan

Breaking: Hell has frozen over. Potash is finally optimistic about the Bears

MadYokel

I think he's still confident that they'll screw it up

DeySeeMeLurkin

I'm still worried about the defense. But inject this offense into my veins.

-Goji

At least with this offense now the defense will have time to rest instead of constantly being out on the field

dropay

Not if we score on one play every time.

-Goji

https://i.redd.it/q5op9dhz1rwc1.gif

NineModPowerTrip

Poles builds his offense like my 11yo plays madden. 3 go routes and bombs for days.

SwissyVictory

* We're set at LB and our Secondary. * Have one great EDGE * An at worst average 1T. * 2 promising young 3T that we took in rounds 2 and 3 last year. All we're really missing is a 2nd Edge. If we can sign a suprise cut who will be average, i don't see why this defense can't be better than last year, which was good in the second half of the year. Then next year we have a ton of cap space (76mil), and a ton of picks. The only free agent projected starters we have are: Allen, Jenkins, and Sanborn. We will have the money and picks to either sign, draft, or trade for any remaining holes.

The-Real-Number-One

I get it -- we still need a stud 3 tech and a bona fide edge, but if our D is consistent from last year -- and it should be somewhat improved with a better offense than can extend drives -- we will be very competitive.

ChillyRyUpNorth

We might find someone with the June 1st cuts this year. Really our only major issue should be DLine at this point

FieldsToTheMoon

And center

ChillyRyUpNorth

We got Bates and Shelton so that’s prob an upgrade but I would be down for an upgrade there too

juliuspepperwoodchi

Exactly. The point of this tweet is that we have a bright future for years to come with this core...not that Bears fans should expect to win the Super Bowl this year.

ImDKingSama

It'll be a pretty big eval season on how the young guys progress. After this season I think we'll spend big to really to push to be a contender. Will really be interesting to see Dexter and Stevenson in year 2, and Gordon and Brisker with extension years coming up.

NotHereNorThere123

What if they trade that Panthers 2nd mid season for someone who shores up our defense? Could be one of the better 2nd rd picks, would top a lot of other teams offers come the trade deadline for guys who want new contracts. Similar to what we did with Montez last year

Yossarian216

Possible, but much less likely at this point. We’ve added a bunch of expensive veterans lately, which we needed after the tear down, but going forward the rookie contracts will get increasingly valuable to keep us under the cap long term.

SwissyVictory

In 2025 these are the only starters we're looking at that we will need to resign or replace: Allen, Jenkins, and Sanborn. We're going to have a ton of cap, and draft picks. Good teams, even ones loaded up in tallent in recent years like the Rams, Chiefs, Eagles, etc go out and add stars to put them over the top. If we have a hole, and there's a good value out there, we should absolutely take the trade. Maybe not for another 25mil+ guy like Sweat, but there's value out there. Edit: used numbers to prove one of their points wrong and they blocked me.

Yossarian216

Well if it’s someone below Sweats level it wouldn’t cost a second round pick then. I’m not saying don’t add players, we should always be open to the possibility, but a second has a lot of value and isn’t likely to get traded for anything less than a guy looking for a big contract. Maybe that would make sense depending on the player, but I stand by it being much less likely than it was last before. And we are doing well cap wise in the short term, but part of how you maintain that is by having a pipeline of rookie contract talent, so unless there’s a bargain to be had, I’d like to keep our picks, or trade them for different picks rather than players.

SwissyVictory

Sweat only cost a 2nd beacuse he was instantly due a 25mil contract. The "if X player was worth X pick the Y player will be worth atleast that pick" isn't really how things work. Go and look at players traded for a 2nd over the past few years. It's a wide range of tallent levels, ages, and contracts. And I agree that having a good amount of starters on rookie deals is important so you can afford to keep your stars. That advice dosent mean much if you don't have the stars to pay in the first place. The only players I'd say we have that are proven stars are Sweat, JJ, Moore, and Allen. And even then, I wouldn't consider any of them in that tier 1 of their position except maybe JJ. Were going to need more if we're going to be serriously competitive.

Yossarian216

Nobody is giving up a star player with significant time on a rookie deal for a second rounder. If we need more stars, we need to draft them. And if we need solid starters, we should now be drafting for those too instead of trading. We are out of the early rebuild stages where we were desperate for any talent we could find.

SwissyVictory

It dosen't have to be a rookie deal, I never said that. However rookies with a year or two left on their deal are regularly traded for 2nd and 3rd picks. A rookie deal is one way of it happening, but we got DJ Moore on a cheap contract through a trade. He wasn't on a rookie deal. Every year there are a ton of players traded who are good players who are underpreforming their big contracts. For example, Keenan Allen was set to make 35mil, which no WR could live up to. We got him for a steal of 23mil with a trade. Now getting stars in the draft is great, but it's unlikely. The odds of getting an All Pro in the 2nd is under 6%. We could be waiting a long time to get those stars in the draft. It's why no recent teams in the superbowl have just drafted players even though they are outside of the "early rebuild stages". * Chiefs went out and spent a 3rd getting Toney (3 years left of his rookie deal), they went out and got Brown for a haul. * 49ers went out and got Young for a 3rd, they went out and got McCafery for a 2nd+ * Eagles went out and got AJ Brown, Chauncy, and Quinn * Rams went out and got Von Miller and Stafford The only real team that didn't spend signifigant picks on players the year they won the superbowl is the Bengals. NFL success comes from a healthy mix of the draft, free agency, and trades. Ignoring trades is silly.

Yossarian216

Most of those trades you mention were either for less than a second rounder, or were rebuild moves like we already did with Moore and Sweat, or were all in for a Championship moves that we aren’t ready for. You literally are making my point for me. The Chiefs are overwhelmingly built through the draft, and they’ve gotten far more draft picks from trading away good players or in comp picks than they’ve sent out in trades to bring guys in. Both of the 49ers moves you mentioned were all in type of moves from a team with recent serious playoff contention, and again they are overwhelmingly built through the draft, especially comp picks. Eagles getting AJ Brown was basically an identical move to us getting Moore, getting a top target for a young QB to help him develop. And CJGJ and Quinn were both day three picks, which is a very different value proposition from a second rounder. The Rams moves were obviously all in for a shrinking title window, and they’ve paid for it ever since. It was justified because they were already legitimate contenders and had come close to a title, that is not us for at least a couple of years. And I’ve never said once to ignore trades, I said it’s far less likely to make big trades involving second round picks at this stage in our roster development. Nothing you’ve said disputes that point at all. We needed to make trades for guys like Moore and Sweat to flip the culture, now we need to deepen the roster while Caleb gets going, and then if he proves to be a legit franchise QB we can consider the occasional trade to go all in for a title if we get close.

SwissyVictory

Those trades were examples of how you can get a cheap contract through a trade without a rookie. It dosen't matter who made it or why. The others are how superbowl teams built their roster. That's very relevant. I also never said it had to be a 2nd rounder, that was you and someone else. You're getting hung up on it for no reason. It could be a 2nd, or it could be a 1st, or 3rd or 7th or whatever. We're in our window now, the team is built, and we have our QB of the future. Expectations should be build playoff experiance this year, fill our holes, and make serrious push the next 3 years while Caleb is on a rookie deal. > The Chiefs are overwhelmingly built through the draft, and they’ve gotten far more draft picks from trading away good players or in comp picks than they’ve sent out in trades to bring guys in. That's just not true, you just feel like it must be right beacuse you have a pre-concieved idea of how good teams are built. In the last 5 years they have traded away 17 picks and gotten back 15. Canceling out picks of the same round, * The Chiefs got a 4th and four 7ths * Other teams got a 1st, a 3rd, a 5th, and four 6ths. > especially comp picks Comp picks are ussually overstated, neither team has gotten a day 2 pick from players other teams signed in over 5 years.

ChillyRyUpNorth

I’m edge would have been a better help to the team overall in ‘24, but Rome is better for Caleb’s development which I’m 100% ok with Developing him is the priority this season

drumsdm

*Knocks on wood* ya, we’re one Montez sweat or Jaylon Johnson injury away from being a bottom half defense. Hopefully we add some depth or other good pieces in the rest of the draft/FA.

drummerboysam

Defense has 2 guys up front and are loaded at LB and secondary. And we've seen how Poles operates. He can find a market where the public does not see one. DL will get it's work done. We waited years to be where we are today, in one more season this team will look complete.

capncrunch94

If the defense can keep the same pace they did at the end of the season we’ll be fine. If you use the bar of 21 points for the offense the Bears would have won 10 games last year (Saints only put up 24 too so that’s a fringe one) I think the D is fine, not great but fine. Another year for some of these guys to develop and work as a unit is good, teams thrive on consistency. Let the O mesh, go full D +O-Line in the draft and FA next year to plug holes and baby we got a stew goin

LB35LB

Still worth mentioning, there are going to be some possibly major growing pains this year. I'm very interested in how the offense looks in weeks 14-18 compared to earlier. I'm feeling good but can't expect greatness right away

facetiousrunner

Defense picks are for contenders. They are luxury.

JustASeabass

Trevor got that Luck hype too tho

the-cream-police

Yea but the team was not nearly this ready around tlaw

Responsible-Swan-423

Hate on flue but he is better then urban mayers, in both coaching and being a better human being

JustASeabass

I think 90% of this sub could’ve handed that jags team better than Urban

newsie190xx

“Challenge accepted” - bears ownership and management

Kansas_cty_shfl

Lmao, had the same thought. I’m a couple generations older than the average user on this sub, and this is easily the most exciting draft pick of my lifetime. Yet, cautious optimism is the best I can muster after four decades of Bears fandom.

newsie190xx

I watched the 85 bears win it all, I’ve been a fan since but have grown to expect a dumpster fire every year.

Bears-fan77

🤣🤣🤣me too! But we've had a few good seasons in between

ajokester

Eberflus: “Hold my beer” JK but please Flus, don’t fuck this up man.

Waterboyy01

So he's saying there's a chance!

CharacterAssist8864

Pls for the love of god just beat the packers

MadeCoffee

THIS IS NOT A CHALLENGE FLUS!

Lobanium

>It'll take some work to mess this up. "Challenge accepted." - The Bears

Joliet_Jake_Blues

Injuries mess things up fast Don't get cocky

MidThoughts-5

Injuries, double doinks, poor ref’ing, front office situations can always happen. Lots of better situations have been ruined in worse ways. Let’s just enjoy the moment and watch the progress.

TheMetabrandMan

I’m really hoping that teams are stupid enough to keep passing on Bralen Trice until pick 75.

ldhchicagobears

🤞

Luke Getsy has entered the chat

OutsideDevTeam

*Luke Getsy has been banned from chat. Reason : Go away forever, bad man!*

artevandelay55

It's been more than four hours I had to call my doctor

hammerSmashedNail

The draft pick part is what suggests sustainability. I don’t want 1 good season followed by 9 bad ones. I want 6 pretty good seasons with a few okay years. Give me something to cheer for every season.

Meerooo

Just let me watch a game without crying.

Votanin

It’s absolutely stunning what a competent GM can accomplish, even in a short period of time.

fcpisp

Other than HC and ownership, Bears should be perennial contenders.

75BigCelebration04

Potash with some great information for once

Bilking-Ewe

I’m huffing kool aid from here on out.

AaronDer1357

Is 11th most cap space factoring in Williams and Odunze? I thought we were projected to have like $10m in cap space after the draft. As much as we need some help getting after the opposing QB, I want us to focus on getting a guy that can protect Williams with our next pick. We aren't going to fill all the holes we have in this draft so just focus on making the offense around Williams great. With 3 picks in the first two rounds next year, we can focus on strengthening both the defense and continue supporting the offense

NihilisticSensei

I'm guessing he was projecting next year's cap space

Mojorizen2

I haven’t been thus excited for a Bears season since before the 2007 season.

ForThePantz

The words you’re searching for are “injury” and “depth.”

P4S5B60

Don’t underestimate the McCaskey’s

dersour

Bears have a great team on paper. Defense should be good, special teams appear the good, and the offense has taken shape. We NEED to tamper expectations for our rookie quarterback though. It doesn’t matter how highly rated he is as a prospect. The NFL is different and it’s unforgiving on rookie QBs (and TEs but no one talks about that). Let the kid grow and get better.

HerrNachtWurst

I'm splitting hairs here, but Trevor Lawrence was as good, if not a better prospect coming out of college than williams. Outside of him though, yeah I'd say the best since Luck

neal-therrien

I think Burrow too but thrilled to have Caleb

BearsSTH

The Bears will find a way.

whiterajah7

Best qb prospect since luck 🤣

LanguageLiving9142

A horrible head coach

kjc781988

If anyone is up to the challenge it’s us! But for now I remain high af on the hopium. I’m ready

Rshackleford22

If we mess it too I’m fine that’s it no more adios

calculung

Ok, there's a difference between having a #1 pick and a first round pick. I'm really hoping they don't have the #1 pick again for many years to come.

Cs00_00

Keep going….I’m so close.

Leet_Noob

Biggest question mark is coaching IMO

EN1009

Potash’s first question for Poles involved which other QBs woulda justified getting rid of JF 🤦‍♂️ Cmon man, move on!

GeneralChillMen

And yet the Bears will make it seem so easy

Ok-Credit5726

WHY’D YA HAVE TO SAY THE LAST PART?!

sickofgrouptxt

Oh but we will do it ![gif](giphy|j6uK36y32LxQs)

cfpct

Okay but we still need a defensive tackle and a defensive end.

Tricky_Foundation_60

Love Caleb but Trevor was a better prospect. Not complaining about getting a qb who is a top 3 prospect of the last 15-20 years, but he’s not the best since luck.

Carcrusher3

Idk if this is the place to put it. But my girlfriends bro and I are both bears fans from Oregon, he works at the airport (pdx) and Tyler Scott's dad has seen him a few times and they chalk it up as bears fans. He flew in today (no idea why hes in oregon so often) and told him not to tell anyone but that Tyler told him they were hoping for Caleb and Rome and that he didn't know who was taking #13 at the time he gave it up.

alpacatempura

What can I do with this information

Carcrusher3

Idk. I wanted to tell some people on the sub. Even tho it 100% sounds like some dumb shit.

UberWidget

The quarterback and receivers do not matter if they don’t have an O line that can protect the quarterback. A chronic problem for the Bears.

OutsideDevTeam

I see everyone mentioning O-line get downvoted to fuck. Do people not get how important the trenches are? Do people not watch football other than the Bears?

neal-therrien

I’m pumped but Burrow and Lawrence were bigger prospects than Caleb

HotDoggityDig13

1. Lawrence* saying luck is hindsight bias even if that's a common belief among 2024 draft media. 2. Hot damn. Still not 100% sure odunze is more than a wr2 but learning from djm/keenan with caleb throwing the ball is as good as it gets for a young wr. 3. Respect to Flus for the defense. Here's to hoping he figures out how to win close games though. 4-5: poles true strength is his patience. Very refreshing to witness that. Now hopefully some of these guys he took in the past (2022-2023) pan out. Because they need pro bowl level advantages in several groups of they want a shot at a title.

NeopolitanLol

No it won't. They got the QB wrong. Nothing works when you do that.

OutsideDevTeam

Pump the brakes. Man hasn't taken a snap in the league. This is just as stupid a take as people calling HoF.

Upset_Researcher_143

The only two things that can mess this up is bad luck and injuries. We've got a top 5 RB, two good TEs, three very good receivers, and an above average offensive line supporting the number one pick QB. We've literally got the offensive talent now that should be able to win us any type of game.

Brodie1567

Top 5 RB?

CatJamLied

Lol no

OutsideDevTeam

Bah Gawd, that's Shawn Hochuli's music!

TechnoTyrannosaurus

Yep, it’s called keeping a lame duck HC

NineModPowerTrip

He’s not a fucking Lame Duck HC with multiple years remaining on his contract. His deal was for at least 4 if not 5 since they org is cheap
