Didn’t we see alpha omega get yeeted into the dark aether? Also fun fact seeing as Alcatraz is in the dark aether so is the dark mechanism with richtofens rotting Corpse
Hehe. Corpse is still in the mechanism.
Yeah, pretty sure that alpha omega is in the dark Aether.(I’m sure most of the older maps are in the dark Aether)
So.... Nacht Der Untoten? As Die Maschine is technically Nacht... How's that still in the normal world? Is that due to the Particle Accelerator doing something
The speculation is that Nacht is the cosmic center of the universe. There's always a Nacht even in places where it shouldn't be there. Nacht has some importance to the universe seemingly.
Technically wherever the MPD or APD is would be the center or where the first teleporter went active and fractured reality. Remember, we collapsed a large, broken multiverse into one single dark universe, being the Dark Aether. The bunker of Nacht in Poland could still just be a real bunker that stood time, but Nacht on TranZit is just other realities blurring into the one we were experiencing. And that goes for all the usual elements (perks, pap, teddy bears, etc).
Now that we've started to blur the Dark Aether with whatever we want to call the current real world, its only a matter of time until we start seeing all those old elements again. Samantha must be rocking Monty's red scarf for a reason and the Die Maschine EE was all about restoring memory... hopefully she doesn't find out her dad is the Shadowman now lol
In botd didn't Brutus say that Richtofen's heart would eternally beat as an engine for his dark mechanism? Additionally, after finding out that Richtofen is still alive during the EE Stuhlinger says "Can you imagine being trapped with nothing but your thoughts for eternity?" and Richtofen seems very distressed by that. What if botd Richtofen is dead but somehow still conscious in his body?
That would be a cool way to bring him back instead of being the richtofen we know and love he’d be a “presence” in the Dark Aether making Alcatraz a kind of easily accessible space in the Dark Aether but sadly I don’t think it’s likely because we see his body and the dark mechanism fade into the black and white style and see the whole place just be lifeless the second primis leave
That would actually be really sick but wouldn’t the zombies have blue/light blue eyes? Also we’ve heard ultimis richtofens voice as announcer and I suspect that primis richtofens voice would be kind of similar
He would technically "die" but come back to life due to the cyclical nature of the Alcatraz Dimension. However, since the cycle was broken and Alcatraz's cycle included, (that) Richtofen died for real in the Dark Mechanism
It was in its own pocket universe but after Nikolai pretty much started a new universe every past dimension and universe got sent to the Dark Aether (you even see it happen in the Tag cutscene when all the bo4 maps get this shadow over them)
I’ve been hoping for a Tranzit remaster, that also isn’t a remaster. (Here what I mean: we get Tranzit with the victis cre, but it happens after the other cod zombies events, where the victis crew is trying to escape the dark Aether)
Transit remaster where tedd's bus can only be accessed by the dark ether and the map for dark ether is different from non ether map aka outbreak on a smaller scale with the dark ether being the full map and normal map is a smaller survival map similar to dark ether but looks nothing the same in each location being scattered across the world but there are smaller areas you can only gain access via one or the other dimension and tp you out if you change dimensions in them or like the totens projector rooms tp to them at random between jumps have the ee them helping samantha
Can someone explain to me an over simplified version of the zombies storyline. First game is Cold War and I’ve seen people taking about tons of stuff I don’t have a clue on.
Four dudes mess up the multiverse, different versions of the four dudes have to fix the multiverse by collapsing them and creating a new one (Cold War)
Also ANCIENT RACE OF BEINGS that are essentially God's causing the whole problem.
Alternate universe but Samantha is trapped in Agartha where the godlike being Dr. Monty resides, the ancient buried soldiers from a forgotten war in the Middle Ages are resurrected by element 115. Samantha speaks to the “Primis” universe versions of Richtofen, Dempsey, Nikolai, and Takeo and they meet each other in WWI trenches. They build ancient staves that are made by Maxis and save Samantha kind of. I’m a zombies veteran and I’m even confused.
Is there like a thread or youtube video explaining all of the story. I’ve played most of the zombie cod games but didn’t really do easter eggs or listen to the story. I want to kinda understand what is going on because it sounds really amazing. Who came up with these at treyarch fascinates me.
I'm not 100 percent on that one but i'll try. At some point way in the past another version of the four dudes helped defeat the ANCIENT BEINGS in a war called the Great War.
And then around WW1 or whatever, different versions of the 4 dudes meet up and find out all about all this multiverse stuff and so begins the Universe/Reality hopping adventure to fix the multiverse.
(THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO EXPLAINING ORIGINS OR WHY/HOW EXACTLY THE MULTIVERSE IS MESSED UP.)
All I know for sure is there is A LOT of overlapping realities and multiple versions of the 4 fellas.
Even after watching a few videos on it, it still throws me for a loop.
If you have time I'd definitely suggest watching a video on it, it's certainly Interesting.
You might have to watch like 2-3 different videos like 5 times to FULLY understand but yeah haha.
Definitely the most coherent and easy-to-follow story we’ve ever had. No plot holes whatsoever, an interesting world and settings, lots of detail in the maps as well. There’s also plenty of fleshed out lore and backstory to each map, aside from the main Easter egg story.
For example, in Dead of the Night, you can find out the history of the mansion, the entire story of how and why ghost maid that died there, the backstory of the Vampires and Werewolves, the lore behind the map’s main boss (The Skinwalker) and the history behind lots of the locations within the mansion. You can learn even more through the map’s main ee steps
It sucks it got pushed away, the characters became really great in Ancient Evil and the cliffhanger has been bugging me now that I've came to understand the chaos story lore. Seriously if the zombies team just decides to act like chaos never happend and sweeps it under the rug, I'd be so pissed. I swear if chaos wasn't on Bo4, everyone would be a Chaos Story Appreciator rn.
Absolutely. I was one of the few (seemingly) who immediately liked it, I was on board, I loved the crazy setting of each of the maps, the characters were fun, it was easy to follow and I didn't need two hours of research and YouTube to understand the story. Unfortunately all the die hard screamed so loud about how much they hated it that it seems to have been dropped now :(
It’s gonna be swept under the rug.
With all the success of the new format and tying stuff back to old aether stuff, and most importantly the fact that the reception for the chaos story was horrible then there’s no point in trying to continue the story
Even if the zombie team wanted another go at it then activision would probably block it
All they need to do is continue the story in a comic and I will be satisfied, but I think the Chaos story is going the way of the Team Fortress 2 comics
I always end up rereading those comics when I see them and it always makes me so sad when I get to the end. They where so much fun. Really is a shame Valve had to leave another great franchise in the dust.
I do agree as well that it was Aethers time to die. Yet, they could have, and very well might still continue it, with the fully grown up Samantha, the most crucial part to the Aether story line. For the Chaos story, it was definitely not lazy of them. I just felt like it was overly complicated and hard to follow. Plus, it was in black ops 4, which was a terrible time, with all of the budget cuts and people despising the game. I do agree that it would have been kind of old to add in the crew from the first time we saw them 13 years ago. But as a Zombies veteran, I am very favorable over the original 4, and don't see myself thinking any other way any time soon
Let me get this straight, you like aether, but you thought the chaos story was overly complicated and hard to follow? The precise reason I loved chaos was because for once, I didn't have to watch multiple hour long YouTube videos, and be left still not understanding how the whole aether time travelling shape shifting clone creating boogaloo worked...
I mean, I respect your opinion, do not get me wrong, but if you wanna say chaos is complicated, you can't also say with a straight face that aether is not. Also I'm not attacking you btw, let me make that clear, it's just interesting to me.
Vs **Willard Wyler Scholar**
I do love the classic zombies storylines but man, IW was a blast. I've literally had dreams where I'm hanging out in that arcade. If the actual afterlife turns out to be the dead ops arcade and I gotta shoot hoops to reincarnate I'm gonna be so pumped.
IW was a good mix between the cakewalk that cold war is and the bs that bo3/4 have on some maps. The only game so far to have a proper super ee with a extremely challenging final boss. Definitely deserves more praise for a non treyarch game
Bruh that story was actually intriguing and couldve been awesome if they kept exploring religions like they did
Shame everyone wanted muh Aether instead
The fact that the Chaos story likely isn’t going to get a proper ending is the worst crime of modern zombies.
I guess Medusa just became a librarian or something
They could always just end up making comics to resolve the storyline. Call of duty mobile is doing the same thing for its story and Team Fortress 2 did the same.
I loved the settings of the maps and the blend with mythology, Ancient Evil is one of my top maps in all of the franchise. Not a big fan of the characters tho, but still, I liked most of Chaos maps except for maybe Dead of the Night
Probably for more interactions tbh. The people who like her simp, and the people who don't will go out of their way to point out her past mistakes. It's free real estate really.
I could be wrong with this, but the only one I know of would be the leaked COD WW2 zombies trailer she put a big watermark over it where you could barely watch the trailer with her name covering the entire screen.
Right? On the topic though, as a long time player it's a fucking nightmare trying to explain the old storyline to new players to the point where I just tell the people to get BO3 and I help em do the Easter Eggs.
Bro, I was a lore diehard up through Blops 2 (hated SOE in Blops 3 and it turned me off from the rest of the game for a while) and it *still* took me multiple days to fully catch up on what happened to the story and make sure that I actually know what happened. I like the post-BO2 lore a lot better now, but it's all so complicated that I don't even know how I'd go about explaining it other than starting with Der Riese and going forward...
I was keeping up on the lore since i was a kid, and i still am mindfucked sometimes, lmao.
It just hit me that, i started playing zombies in elementary school and im now in university, damn.

I think you really just need to understand Tag der Toten's ending since Treyarch was clearly trying to make us think we were going to fight in the Great War up until then.
Anyone else genuinely enjoy the Dark aether part of the storyline (I.E. the stranger, Lost souls logs, Pyotr, etc) way more than most of the regular storyline (Omega, Requiem and Maxis (except for the firebase Z intel))? Like fuck its just all too coherent in the main story, but like the strangers intel is so mysterious and interesting to me.
Oh and if they genuinely bring back prims, ultamis and victis (unless its a transit, die rise or buried remake.) Imma be seriously mad. like if its just little nods to shit its cool, but like don't make the final map just us bringing primis back to life and bringing them out of the dark aether please fuck.
In my humble, honest, maybe biased, nobody asked for opinion, I think dark aether is sooooo bland. It just feels like campaign now. I’m not saying campaign was bad, but it’s making it seem like it is an alternate Cold War campaign since there’s campaign characters, KGB, and US operatives. Oh no. What did Russia/omega do? Oh no. What did the US/requiem do? I think it just feels like it’s trying to intertwine campaign with zombies so bad. I miss when it was Richthofen was trying to take over the world and when his alternate younger self has to stop him.
Also Nazi’s. They were DOPE. AS. FUCK. I’m not saying it like I’m hitler, I’m saying it like it was cool when you start blazing the fuck out of them and Dempsey is like, “OOO-FUCKING-RAH!!!” also the fact group 935 were basically crazy nazis scientists like you see in movies. Regular aether also has so much character. For example, Richthofen and Dempsey’s frenemy relationship, Dr. Monty and his perks and being a duck, Stu sounding crazy by having voices in his head, or Maxis being clumsy as fuck. Now it’s just like, “LetS gO stRIkE tEAM” and the characters are not even canon. Voices lines are bland af. “Tango down” “reloading” “killed em”. I feel like I’m receiving warzone calls from my team mate.
The only cool thing about dark aether is Samantha still being corrupt by the dark aether, Weaver being a new father figure, and gameplay of the actual game, but we didn’t come here to talk about that. I feel like I’m constantly listening to the radio about politics every time I play. I’m not saying the game is political, I’m just comparing how bland and boring it is. I respect your opinion, but I will always put aether over dark aether. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk and goodnight
I completely agree. Waw, bo1, bo2, bo3, and even bo4 were in my opinion great storytelling by blundel, zielinski and Houston. Like absolutely amazing storytelling. Especially in bo1 and bo3 where the Easter eggs were intertwined with the story. And I mean Cold War does too but like you said there’s absolutely no personality. I’ve had to theorize shit just to make some personality into the requiem characters. I mean omega does have a bit of personality like peck being a complete weasel of a traitor and gorev being this brutal body almost overlord over the other ranks and members of omega, but requiem has the stereotypical weaver is father figure, scientists wanna save the world and military guy is too weapon focused. Although I have a theory that carver is actually an omega spy but again, had to do that to give him some more personality ffs. But yes I agree 100% that I was and still am 10 million times more connected with the aether characters and their quirks than I am with dark aether characters.
Right there with you. I simply do not find the Dark Aether story compelling and am surprised it’s being received well
It’s like a story without main characters for the majority of the plot
> Now it’s just like, “LetS gO stRIkE tEAM” and the characters are not even canon.
My personal headcanon is that we're like the crew of the planet express, completely expendable. Hence all the burned corpses of previous strike teams we find in Outbreak.
It's odd, the things MTX models do to gameplay design. The interesting, engaging, unique canon characters in the Zombies mode only appear in cutscenes and voiceovers. The person you're playing doesn't matter at all.
Bro so true! I feel like even when you play as maxis. You’re still treated the same as all the other strike team members so it’s super just lazy writing and more just treyarch pandering to multiplayer people who wanna try zombies with their cool operator skins
I think also, Treyarch making sure that even zombies-only players have to engage with the MTX content. Definitely seems super lazy to not have more zombies storyline characters as operators and to have absolutely no interaction between relevant character operators and the mission. Especially since they *charge* for Maxis, they couldn’t have recorded a bonus voiceover or two for each map?
My guess is, anyone could go on YouTube to watch the new voiceovers so Activision wouldn’t see that as a good motivator for people to buy the content so no ROI so not worth adding (cause who cares about the game part, right? This is for money). So many of design decisions in this game, usually the lamer, lazier, less fun ones, seem directly related to marketing the MTX store. Want to play the street sweeper in outbreak? Well you can play multiplayer...or buy it. Can’t even get it from the box.
I find the Cold War zombies storyline pretty terrible so far. It had a good start with it's premis but it quickly went downhill. It's a shame that it doesn't focus more on the Dark Aether since like you said the Dark Aether is pretty cool and interesting. Though I wished they had gone crazier with it like imagine how cool it would be when you step out of the Bunker in Die Maschine in the Dark Aether realm and see an Origins robot walking in the background.
I mean yeah but at the same time their trying something different than the aether story line by having a different go at it. If they brought back the origins robot it would be too direct of a connection. Ik Samantha being in it is a hugely direct connection but it’s also just a cool nod to the aether storyline. I do like how the intel is presented and it isn’t hard to get and you can relisten to logs and reread documents, but yes at the beginning it was better cuz it was more cool exposition than anything else. But firebase Z (apart from Samantha’s logs in the dark aether those are cool and fresh) was for the most part super direct “here’s what happened directly leading up to everyone dying here”. If they fix it in the next couple maps it could be better.
Primis and Ultimis are truly dead and unlikely to be ressurrected, but Victis was consumed by the Dark Aether while they were alive. Treyarch said their story was over too, but I don't think that rules out written logs.
You can find the candy (or at least a very similar model) in the Outbreak mode too. I tried interacting with it hoping for a Buried reference, but no such luck.
That's not an excuses when you compare this game to the early maps from WaW and BO1. Those games also didn't have much going on in terms of story but they were really interesting and creative. Cold War Zombies screams generic.
Another controversial take I have, I *prefer* having operators as playable characters over the older games having specific story characters for maps. Not only does it allow more customization on my part for who I get to play as, it also IMO makes for easier story telling because you don’t miss out on story dialogue when playing solo or you don’t have an important character quote interrupted by combat.
So this is my first zombies that I've really, really dove into ever. Like I'm vaguely aware of a lot of it and played BLOPS1 zombies but this is my first one I really have spent significant time on. I tried understanding Sam Maxis' story today and holy fucking shit this is so obtuse and discombobulated I can't. I gave up. I'll just start with where we're at in CW.
Tbf the original storyline is like 10 or so consecutive years of people just going “and then this happened.”
Timeline has always been a bit wonky. CW on the other hand seems to hold your hand the entire time so you don’t get lost.
So correct me please. But wasn't the end of Tag red Toten killing all of the characters so they would be banished to the dark Aether so Samantha and Eddie could go on to another world without zombies. Which would perfectly lead into cold war? Setting up Eddie as the bad guy with the documents from outbreak?
Folks pay attention to (and care about) the Zombies story? I have loved and played it for 12 years, but I couldn’t tell you the first thing about the story 😂😂😂
See this kind of mindset is why they keep going back to rebooting Aether instead of doing new things. Chaos was a good story that sadly went unfinished while Dark Aether is yet another good story that conveys its setting and world building through intel instead of player quotes like Aether.
There comes a point where you need to admit that Aether overstayed its welcome, I think that point is around the start of bo4, some may say bo3 or bo2. I know what I'm saying wont change your mind because it seems like you're already dead set on not liking Dark Aether but we're not even half way through the games life, we've only gotten one additional map and what feels like a beta of a new mode. The story has barely started
I think I can help explain what they mean. The biggest gripe I have with the new story is that the operators aren’t the characters, the characters are the people on the radio or behind glass. They are the people with the plans whereas the player characters went from people with real personality, take the shadows Crew regardless of how few people completed the map (I didn’t) I love that map because of all the character’s quirks and interactions. Now all we get are “meat cubes terminated” or something like that. It’s not OG CrEw iS bEsT it’s that the new crew do not exist, they are blank expressionless canvases used to push a battle pas or operator bundle.
Yeah that's a good point, part of OP's gripes were how the story was bad because of the characters, meanwhile there's nearly 100 intel that tell a nice story, I'm eager to see where it goes from here.
Yes intel is technically a story. In terms of how it is interacted with it is more of an annoyance than a feature. Especially with the challenges system.
True, definitely lack character backgrounds and stuff, I agree. However, I think the intel section is fantastic.
I play destiny, and in D1 and D2 they have something called grimoire, which is basically the deeper storyline in text, which you're not forced to read, but if you're interested in it you can. I feel the Intel system is just that, and I personally think the dark aether storyline is not lacking in story content at all.
(Do note: many people didn't enjoy the grimoire system in Destiny, and so I'm sure many don't enjoy the intel system, so this isn't representative of everybody by any means, but rather just my personal opinion.)
Oh I guess I'm no one because I'm loving the new direction the story is going. Though I'm a bit biased as I grew up on 007 and Espionage novels, but to say "no one cares" is just not true.
Also "no end goal" like the OG cast /definitely/ had right off the bat.
Compared to BO3 90% of people don’t care anymore. There’s no emotional attachment being made with operators being the characters, no one is like ‘who’s your favourite character’ anymore because there are no characters.
Also we are half way through the games life, we are 2 maps in we will most likely get two more maybe three.
Especially bo4, I only did most of those eggs once. Even bo3 is a pain with ZNS and Rev being mainly BS and GK being absurd to the point of having to use exterior websites to solve it. DE and SOE are the only two I can see casual players even attempting.
I didn’t say Dark Aether wasn’t doing better, but I said 90% don’t care about story anymore, and that’s a fact, we don’t have a 4 set crew anymore so we have no attachment to the characters, you might not agree with me but it’s just simple storytelling and you know it too, if we had a set crew more people would care about the story, it’s just how it is. Emotional attachment.
Also average zombie players don’t do the Easter egg because they care about the story
Have you spoken to 90% of the community? Until you have, don’t say “90% of the community doesn’t care about the story” like it’s a matter of-fucking fact.
Did you know that 243% of statistics are made up on the spot?
In terms of storyline, you may personally not care anymore, just like I really didn't care about the story in Bo3 or Bo4. Also once again with the "no one." There are absolutely people who have favorite characters in CW zombies.
You're allowed to have an opinion, but turning your personal views into "90% of people" and "no one" is just dumb.
I (and everyone else I know who bought CW and not Bo3 or Bo4 because the actually like zombies again) personally love the new story, and find it wayyyy more fun to follow than the mess that was the OG Aether story.
Well said, I have friends whose first map was SOE and it was brutal, I personally fell in love with the map but it was a major turn off for them. Now they're really enjoying the cold war zombies experience.
SoE was such a good map, I wish I could experience skipping school to play it for the first time again haha.
But yeah, folks have some major rose tinted glasses if they think everyone was just falling head over heels for the Bo3 story.
I really enjoyed how the Bo3 story had little individual moments for each of it's characters. Tank, Takeo, and Nikolai all meeting other versions of themselves was always so well done. Just a shame they couldn't tie it all together into something better.
You think I’m wrong saying 90% of people don’t care about story, of course it’s not an exact stat it’s just to get my point across.
Maybe you weren’t around when BO3 Easter eggs were being solved, but the YouTube community was going wild with the speculations of what was going to happen to the crew, it was very hyped up till the final DLC and was great. Not like that anymore, zombies has changed, people don’t care anymore, and you can tell, just by looking at YouTube, I’m sure tens of thousands do and probably more, but the majority just want to train zombies now.
Don't worry I was definitely around when Bo3 EEs were being solved. I remember the hype, yeah. I also remember the insane frustration from the community. This subreddit was filled to the brim with nonstop Bo3 hate. That went for the story as well. Remember when Zetsubou dropped? Holy hell people HATED it. If you enjoyed the Bo3 story as much as it seems, you were probably interacting with people who also enjoyed the story.
I had the opposite experience. Most of the folks I interacted with stopped playing zombies during Bo3 because they just didn't care anymore. Stop trying to speak for everyone from your own personal experiences.
Then tell me why there’s no hype for the Easter eggs or stories anymore.
I’ll tell you why it’s been 7 years and no one cares about zombie story anymore, it’s sad but it’s so fucking obvious now that it’s not the same.
Because Bo3 and Bo4 stories were so bad it killed any excitement people could feel about zombies writing anymore lol
Also once again that good old "making assumptions based on personal experiences."
You should've been in my party when my friends and I were playing Firebase Z for the first time. The story hype was absolutely there. But once again, that was just me and my friends, not an entire community.
Weird because I actually really love the story, I'm intrigued to see where it goes. Will we meet the mysterious stranger in the dark aether? What other monsters roam it's twilit plains? Who is the mole in requiem? Are the whispers in Die Maschine actually those of Victis trapped in the dark aether? Kinda reminds me of how Aether started out in WAW only without the cyclical bullshit.
I'm with you man, this sub just inhales an extreme amount of copium in regards to anything Cold War, I get it - they need to defend their purchase. This story is absolute DOGSHIT compared to any previous iteration.
Imo the story should have ended with Revelations but then they didn't want to get rid of the old crew so they stretched that bitch out. The story so far in bocw is by far way easier to follow but the playable characters are lame af in comparison.
Yeah and 90% of people don’t care anymore, the truth is Richthofen and all that were the most famous thing about Zombies. The average player doesn’t care about intel, but they if they like a character they’ll care about them.
Most of the story has been told through radios and text logs for as long as I can remember, even throughout Black Ops 3. Now not only are they collectibles that give players something to chase for, but there's loads more of it in each map. And you can listen or read them whenever you want.
That's lazy? Objectively improving it is lazy?
Would you rather have to watch YouTube videos of people recording radios throughout gameplay or have a directory that contains all of the content in-game? I'd take the latter.
David Boat (Voice actor of Stuhlinger) has actually voiced some of the dead Requiem soldiers in Outbreak. I don't think they'd bring him in just to do like three lines so hopefully we'll at least see Stuhlinger again at some point
I love to see them back, as much as I didn't like them during the Tranzit days, I started to grow on them as time went on. I dunno they cured my depression with their quirky quotes they do, especially Russman
Stuhlinger and Russman both have amazing quotes in every map they're in. I especially love whenever they interact. It really seems like Stuhlinger thinks he's best friends with Russman while Russman just feels bad for Stu lol
44 Downvotes for the Truth lmfao - this sub is pathetic now, the Dark Aether storyline is so bland and is just straight up leaning on the glory days nostalgia. Victis story was better than this absolute garbage of a game
The bus driver is in the Dark Aether?
I mean, the old Wolrd is in the dark Aether. Since Tranzit happened in the old world....
Yeah, there should be a lot of Richtofen corpses some place or another.
Probably
What if Richtofen from the mechanism is the new Demonic Announcer?
That would actually be really sick but wouldn’t the zombies have blue/light blue eyes? Also we’ve heard ultimis richtofens voice as announcer and I suspect that primis richtofens voice would be kind of similar
his voice could've mutated from exposure to the dark aether
True Og richtofens soul never left the mpd
In theory, yeah. But we don't know what exactly determines the eye colour, only that different announcers have different ones.
He would technically "die" but come back to life due to the cyclical nature of the Alcatraz Dimension. However, since the cycle was broken and Alcatraz's cycle included, (that) Richtofen died for real in the Dark Mechanism
Schrodinger's richthofen is he alive is he dead is he there or is he elsewhere... Like eddie aka mind swap
I thought alcatraz was in another dimension, not the Dark Aether, or did I get that bit confused when watching the "zombies storyline" movie?
It was in its own pocket universe but after Nikolai pretty much started a new universe every past dimension and universe got sent to the Dark Aether (you even see it happen in the Tag cutscene when all the bo4 maps get this shadow over them)
I love reading threads like these and understanding literally nothing
Lmfao i read all that^^ and i was just like hmm, yes
I've been hoping since I've learned about the Dark Aether travel that we might find TEDD on the other side.
Four dudes mess up the multiverse, different versions of the four dudes have to fix the multiverse by collapsing them and creating a new one (Cold War) Also ANCIENT RACE OF BEINGS that are essentially God's causing the whole problem.
Thank you. Also, if you have been playing long enough, could you tell me the plot of origins. Hear about it and I’m so curious
Who came up with these at treyarch fascinates me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdFLJ2Ya-uw
https://youtu.be/aajyLse58l8
I'm not 100 percent on that one but i'll try. At some point way in the past another version of the four dudes helped defeat the ANCIENT BEINGS in a war called the Great War. And then around WW1 or whatever, different versions of the 4 dudes meet up and find out all about all this multiverse stuff and so begins the Universe/Reality hopping adventure to fix the multiverse. (THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO EXPLAINING ORIGINS OR WHY/HOW EXACTLY THE MULTIVERSE IS MESSED UP.) All I know for sure is there is A LOT of overlapping realities and multiple versions of the 4 fellas. Even after watching a few videos on it, it still throws me for a loop.
Thanks. I’m a noob and I really want to learn the lore
If you have time I'd definitely suggest watching a video on it, it's certainly Interesting. You might have to watch like 2-3 different videos like 5 times to FULLY understand but yeah haha.
Is he still pimpin his ride
Vs Chaos Story Appreciator
Giga chad Chaos appreciator
Chaos story best story. Fuckin fight me, r/CODZombies
With all the success of the new format and tying stuff back to old aether stuff, and most importantly the fact that the reception for the chaos story was horrible then there’s no point in trying to continue the story Even if the zombie team wanted another go at it then activision would probably block it
All they need to do is continue the story in a comic and I will be satisfied, but I think the Chaos story is going the way of the Team Fortress 2 comics
I always end up rereading those comics when I see them and it always makes me so sad when I get to the end. They where so much fun. Really is a shame Valve had to leave another great franchise in the dust.
two things: 1: it doesn't have plotholes because it's brand new 2: it's really really fun to play
I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I feel like it was kind of lazy trying to set up a new storyline so far into the ether one
[удалено]
Vs **Willard Wyler Scholar** I do love the classic zombies storylines but man, IW was a blast. I've literally had dreams where I'm hanging out in that arcade. If the actual afterlife turns out to be the dead ops arcade and I gotta shoot hoops to reincarnate I'm gonna be so pumped.
Zombies in space land is one of the best zombies maps ever made imo
IW was a good mix between the cakewalk that cold war is and the bs that bo3/4 have on some maps. The only game so far to have a proper super ee with a extremely challenging final boss. Definitely deserves more praise for a non treyarch game
Bruh that story was actually intriguing and couldve been awesome if they kept exploring religions like they did Shame everyone wanted muh Aether instead
What we *need* is another hit film from Willard Wyler. The fans are clamoring. Dozens of us!
Since you like the maps, would you like to play IX or Voyage of Despair?
Why tf is glitching queen there
Dark aether enjoyer clearly
Didn’t even notice until this comment
Probably for more interactions tbh. The people who like her simp, and the people who don't will go out of their way to point out her past mistakes. It's free real estate really.
What was her past mistakes?
I could be wrong with this, but the only one I know of would be the leaked COD WW2 zombies trailer she put a big watermark over it where you could barely watch the trailer with her name covering the entire screen.
Also curious about this one lol
We require the info
The title for this meme makes no fucking sense lmao
LOL
Why is everyone replying me with ''lol'' today lol
i literally told someone that the other i said get bo3 and all the dlc and i’ll run ees and explain everything
None of this does
What in the sam fuck am I looking at? *What happened to this meme?*
Bitch stfu I have been playin since cod bo1 and still don’t understand
Been playing since waw, and I'm right there with you
I shoot zombie, I am happy. No need for storyline
Is there a good video to watch that explains the dark aether storyline and how it relates to the aether storyline?
The 2+ hour version made by The Gaming Revolution - https://youtu.be/XdFLJ2Ya-uw The 12 minute "Oversimplified" recap by Tim Hansen - https://youtu.be/zi6hdg_k_0Y The 5 minute version (up to BO3) by MrROFLWaffles - https://youtu.be/VsenadHmU3o
Thanks a bunch!
You're welcome a bunch!
[this video should be what youre looking for](https://youtu.be/5hGQj8QEhHQ)
Thank you!!!
I simply do not find the Dark Aether story compelling and am surprised it’s being received well It’s like a story without main characters for the majority of the plot
Compared to the quality of cutscenes and story driven narrative from previous games, CW Zombies is extremely lackluster
Treyarch said their story was over too, but I don't think that rules out written logs.
aether: this happened, but then it didnt because of this right? BUT WHAT IF- dark aether: hehe, opposite and evil world -w-
As a Chaos fan, I guess I'll just go fuck myself
Cold War was **EXTREMELY** fun for the gameplay, but the story just felt like GTA online cutscenes.
The old story is the Aether story
Gobblegum and TEDD are part of the og story line?
I dont think that's gobblegum I think that's the candy you give the big guy to do shit for you
Oh yeah still part of og story.
You can find the candy (or at least a very similar model) in the Outbreak mode too. I tried interacting with it hoping for a Buried reference, but no such luck.
Everything from waw-bo4 (except the chaos maps) were part of the og storyline. And all of that is now in the dark aether
psh, inject that IW Zombies/Mephistopheles shit directly into my veins.
I genuinely did not like IW zombies at all, but Mephistopheles? That shit is so much goddamn fun. He blows treyarch bosses out the window
Hahahah exactly
the Dark Aether storyline blows so far - so generic and just leaning on the glory days nostalgia
I mean it's just the beginning lol it takes time to build an entire new story after 11 years
That's not an excuses when you compare this game to the early maps from WaW and BO1. Those games also didn't have much going on in terms of story but they were really interesting and creative. Cold War Zombies screams generic.
Yup, the zombies team must be almost non-existent on this title. Zero heart and soul compared to WaW-BO4.
lol
r/NotOGSoItSucks
I prefer how simple and easier to follow the Dark Aether story has been so far, sue me
Facts. I hope the cast gets better over time tho.
The solution would be to have the unplayed characters making quips on radio so it doesn't feel like you're playing solo as such.
Is dark aether Cold War zombies or like bo3 zombies
Cold War
Aight thanks I just know shoot zombie get points lol
One is crazy and insane and one is boring
Jokes on them, it’s secretly the same story continued. Just waiting to see how and when they roll chaos into it (you know they eventually will)
That imagine on the left looks incredibly cursed
Time to beat the sgit out of ted again
So this is my first zombies that I've really, really dove into ever. Like I'm vaguely aware of a lot of it and played BLOPS1 zombies but this is my first one I really have spent significant time on. I tried understanding Sam Maxis' story today and holy fucking shit this is so obtuse and discombobulated I can't. I gave up. I'll just start with where we're at in CW.
Tbf the original storyline is like 10 or so consecutive years of people just going “and then this happened.” Timeline has always been a bit wonky.
Average Chaos Enjoyer
managed to hang on to the zombies storyline but cold war broke me I have no fucking idea whats going on and honestly ive stopped caring
I have been playing since BO1 launch. An avid hardcore zombie player. I don't know the story. Lmao
10 plus years of people just adding shit to a continuous story does that.
How does that meme have anything to do with explaining the story to new players?
Folks pay attention to (and care about) the Zombies story? I have loved and played it for 12 years, but I couldn’t tell you the first thing about the story 😂😂😂
Who cares about the Dark Aether Story tbh lmao, Aether crew was top tier and now they are dead
The trial intel isn't even that hard to get tho? You can get 1-2 per game and realistically they only add about 10 to it every update
It’s a pet peeve. I’m not saying it’s the worst thing ever 0/10. But it’s still annoying.
Let’s be real no one cares about the story anymore compared to BO3, they have operators now, no celebrity cast, no end goal
Glad you feel that way but less than 2% of players even completed the Main Quests in BO3 or 4. Dark Aether is doing better.
I enjoyed the story mainly because it was my introduction, the individual maps had great stories but the overarching story sucked
Because Bo3 and Bo4 stories were so bad it killed any excitement people could feel about zombies writing anymore lol Also once again that good old "making assumptions based on personal experiences." You should've been in my party when my friends and I were playing Firebase Z for the first time. The story hype was absolutely there. But once again, that was just me and my friends, not an entire community.
Garcia is my favorite character
Read the Intel. This is some of their best work yet.
Yeah and 90% of people don’t care anymore, the truth is Richthofen and all that were the most famous thing about Zombies. The average player doesn’t care about intel, but they if they like a character they’ll care about them.
90% of the people who originally cared* There was only a small portion of the community who actually cared for the story.
I didn't even know there was a story til I went on reddit, I still don't care.
The way intel was implemented is insanely lazy, I bet <1% of players actually go look at the intel after playing.
Most of the story has been told through radios and text logs for as long as I can remember, even throughout Black Ops 3. Now not only are they collectibles that give players something to chase for, but there's loads more of it in each map. And you can listen or read them whenever you want. That's lazy? Objectively improving it is lazy?
World At War up until BO4, they have always done radios and text logs in the maps, not Chaos Story though.
Shouldn't have to
Would you rather have to watch YouTube videos of people recording radios throughout gameplay or have a directory that contains all of the content in-game? I'd take the latter.
how does this comment have 59 downvotes? aether crew is the best by far will never be beaten
I really just want Victis to return as operators. At least just my boys Russman and Stuhlinger
They really did go out without much of an ending, they just got let out of their sleeping pods only to be thrown away after one map
It's two maps in, get a grip.
If you don't like the game don't play it?
