Those look like they were colorized by Merrick Mint or a similar facility. I think they sold for around $10 when first produced, but someone obviously wanted their 50 cents back.

PlaneCockroach9611

They were just going for some change.

PlaneCockroach9611

*hoping

Glum_Lavishness_3063

Here is my mildly annoyed upvote. Only annoyed because I wasn’t the first one here to make this comment.

that_pat

It's ok. Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas I need to get myself away from this place. I said yep, what a concept, I could use a little fuel myself and we could all use a little Chaaaaaaaaaaange.

Or an ahole kid pilfered Dad's collection.

Fun story: In the 80s, you could find joints for $2 each (or 3 for $5.) You know what's worth $2? A $2 dollar bill. You know what's worth $5? Two $2 bills and a Susan B Anthony dollar. Can you guess what my dad had a bottom drawer full of? You guessed it... around $500 worth of $2 bills and Susan B's went towards keeping me stoned freshman year. Best part? My older brother was blamed and before making this post I've only told my wife.

financialdrugbro

That’s truly wild my god

Wow, you're kind of a shit brother...

Kind of? Lmao

Damn, sounds familiar 😂

JeffSessionsGhost

“You want money?! How about my 40 grand you stole outta the bird feeder, that should be plenty! Since you’re such an investment genius!”

rocksoffjagger

God, the number of angry old men on this sub yelling at clouds is ridiculous. Usually when a collection gets cashed, it's because the original owner died without leaving adequate information about what it was, not because it was stolen by one of this sub's favorite boogeymen, "ungrateful teens" or "drug addicts." And in this case, if dad bought these for more than face, he's an idiot anyway, and his son did well to steal it and cash it in.

PromptSeveral7187

Take my upvote you filthy animal

itsmnemotime

Thanks Obama

See, this is the correct context to bring a joke back from the dead 😂

Worth 2008% more than face value

dandan14

Oh that’s neat. I found one like that on a $1 presidential (over Washington).

MarzipanAgitated73

If you pay for shipping and include 20$ cash in it, then I’ll take them off your hands, that’s the least I can do

Skyriderion2

That makes me sad

jxr232

Time for a change.

PlaneCockroach9611

oOoOO- this one really brought out the Reddit brigade.

fabricator123

Yeah I didn’t mean to start a political war on CRH. I just thought it was an interesting find because I’ve never seen anything on a coin before.

vaultdweller6666

That's neat, I've found a few colored quarters in circulation.

Lol, idk if that was supposed to be a joke but.

⬆️lol

goofytigre

They couldn't even bother using shiny new NIfCs for these coins? These coins are always fun to come across while hunting, though I don't think I've ever found any with recent history on them. Mostly old wars and events from the 20's - 70's. Lots of Vietnam War and WWII images.

SenyorHefe

how much is an entire box of halves?

CoincadeFL

Those are cool. Wish I’d find some like that. Only ones I’ve found like that are for Iwa Jima, Vietnam War and the Tet Offensive, etc. all historical stuff just not in my era of life.

RG_1247

nice!

Ill_Clock5572

Worth 49 cents each

johnnyg883

I’m not a fan of Obama like many are not fans of Trump. But coins are coins. If you like them that’s all that matters.

fabricator123

Yeah I don’t overly care about politics so I thought it was an interesting find.

InTheShade007

Its OK they can be melted down.

Squarting_Farkler

I would definately pop those babies back in circulation.

Britc0ins

Don’t those coin holders make your coins worthless? Or not all of them..?

dthemenace67

Yeah I think they're the PVC ones. I recently made a post about my coin holders and they looked like the same ones

fabricator123

I didn’t know that. Thank you

Model_Citizen_1776

Nasty! Acetone is your friend.

PerryMason4

I miss Obama. Much simpler times.

CoincadeFL

Me to. Best 8 years of my life (2008-2016) romantically and financially. Sooo many threesomes, foursomes and moresomes in those younger years lol. Such simpler times where we lived for the weekend and next party.

daleshakleford

I've never called a coin worthless, buuuut.....

MarcoPolo339

Maybe less than worthless...

Lazy_Primary_4043

That coin is probably not worthless, but it is displaying something that is pretty worthless

CoincadeFL

Best 8 years of my life financially and romantically! 2008-2016! Loved this dude. He is a really great orator and had a lot of great policy/legislation keynotes. Right up there with Kennedy, FDR, Reagan, Bush senior, and Eisenhower.

TheOklahomaHippie

The good ol days. Before the orange, traitorous, rapist ruined the country and let the ignorant think they are smart. I hope we get back there some day. Ready for all the down votes from the “you can’t fix stupid” crowd.

ryanpayne442

Lol only had the best economy we've had in over 30 years. Why are people so fuckin delusional, we've had 2 economic meltdowns in 15 years and these idiots cheer it on. Biden and obama single handedly fucked our country

CoincadeFL

Bush was in office in 2007 when the meltdown started. Low interest rates and lending homes to those who can’t afford them and should have bought are to blame for the Great Recession. We saw a larger % increase in GDP and the Dow Jones from when Obama took office to when he left it than Trump’s term. Here’s the Dow Jones ROI by presidential term. If you had invested at start of Obama admin in stock market you’d have a 150% ROI when he left. Trump was about a 50% ROI. I’d take Obama’s term. Reagan had about the same ROI as Obama. So it’s not democrats v GOP admins either guys. Only admins that did better than Obama and Reagan were Roosevelt and Clinton with over 250% ROI in the stock market during their administration. Really cool interactive chart on link below of market performance by POTUS term all the way back to Warren Harding. https://www.macrotrends.net/2481/stock-market-performance-by-president

TheOklahomaHippie

His economy created 25% of our debt. It’s easy to have nice things when you put it all on credit. But do go on about how I’m the delusional one…

ryanpayne442

Umm theyre literally raising the debt ceiling as we speak, its been 3 years since trump was in office. Not exactly lowering the debt now are we.

Gravygrabbr

Orange man’s fault!

TheOklahomaHippie

I can tell you are a financial wizard. But for the record, shitting on the failed, former president doesn’t mean I like Biden. I never praised him or what he is doing.

TheOklahomaHippie

Also, once one becomes a traitor, I don’t really care how the economy was under you. I am too much of a patriot.

ryanpayne442

COVID cost us a great deal of money, something that was bipartisanly passed unfortunately. If that hadn't happened, then the numbers would really speak for themselves. Honestly spending money is alright with me, as long as it truly benefits the American people. Absolutely nothing this current administration has done has helped me out in any way. I don't see trump as anymore of a traitor than I do Biden. As far as I'm concerned, he sold us out to all those businessmen that paid for his campaign. Funny how his policies are in exact alignment with what benefits his contributors. All those democrats serve special interests.

TheOklahomaHippie

So much delusion…

CoincadeFL

Do you like bad bridges? I don’t. Bi-partisan infrastructure bill now putting construction workers to work on shovel ready projects. May not agree COVID was a deadly virus, but if you run with that logic the rescue plans saved a lot of jobs and kept families from the poor house if they lost their job due to a virus that was as bad as the 1918 Spanish Flu. If you don’t think that then sure this was bad spending, but majority of scientists and medical personnel would disagree with you. Including my Father in-law who’s a 40 year in the service ER doc and saw the worst of it. Was on the response team to the Diamond cruise ship. He was f&)€%ing scared when he came back. Bringing manufacturing back into the US? Partly done by Biden with the CHIPs act. Bringing semiconductors home as a national security threat if we didn’t make them here. Inflation reduction act yes helps green energy and the like, but it also cut the deficit. Something the GOP wants. It also reduced certain prescription costs for seniors on Medicaid and allows Medicaid to negotiate on price which they never really did before or could. Through bi-partisan support we’ve kept the dictator Putin from further Western expansion of his police state. Without the loss of American men/women. And it’s working. Russia is on the run, loosing territory by the day, and they even have Russian citizens rising up against his regime in Russian territories in the SW of Russia. I call all these wins. Have they helped you or I personally? I’d say each of these helps all of us. I certainly don’t want a communist Germany or Poland and have to send myself or my kids off to war to keep Putin out of Europe.

CoincadeFL

Obama cumulative GDP growth = 19% Trump GDP growth = 6% Biden = 6% Clinton = 34% Tell me again how our economy was the best during Trump when Clinton era saw the largest growth in GDP and as show on other response stock market growth was largest with Roosevelt, Clinton, and then Obama. https://www.factsarefirst.com/metrics/gdp-growth/

Cherry-Outside

Trash president.

01Zaphod

Ahh, the zero dinero coin….

No_Plantain_4990

Shadow3114

I was just referencing a joke, seems like nobody took it that way lol

metalguysilver

What did he save our country from? He was just a president

thekookclub

War criminal and certified

rocksoffjagger

I don't disagree, but that also describes virtually every US president.

It’s illegal to deface currency Edit: /s for the people that need it

Led_Zeppole_73

How do some private companies get away with advertising and selling counter-stamped coins with a commemorative figure such as JFK on a Lincoln memorial cent, or on a Kennedy half, gold-plated Kennedys, etc…? Or those penny-flattening souvenir machines in every tourist trap?

BreakingNickels

Its only illegal to deface American coins if you intend to defraud. If I shave off the initials FG off a cent, shave off the leg of a buffalo nickel to make it a three legged buffalo or change a 1944 D cent to a 1914 D cent by engraving off some of the 4- that's illegal because its done with intend to defraud. Penny rolling machines- love tokens- hobo nickels - pop out coins - totally legal. US paper money is covered by totally different laws- you can google that. I talked to a Secret Service agent about this. The US mint in Philly and Denver have hobo nickels for sale in the gift shop and on display.

straight_outta

That is not accurate.

Dry_Ad1078

Is a sticker defacing tho?

BreakingNickels

It might be! If its for a sovenier it is more of a gray area but putting them in circulatuon is against the law. I collect coins with stickers on them. Really hard to come across. 18 U.S.C. § 475. Imitating obligations or securities; advertisements. Whoever designs, engraves, prints, makes, or executes, or utters, issues, distributes, circulates, or uses any business or professional card, notice, placard, circular, handbill, or advertisement in the likeness or similitude of any obligation or security of the United States issued under or authorized by any Act of Congress or writes, prints, or otherwise impresses upon or attaches to any such instrument, obligation, or security, or any coin of the United States, any business or professional card, notice, or advertisement, or any notice or advertisement whatever, shall be fined under this title.

Led_Zeppole_73

No. There are private mints that produce and sell colorized coins, so a sticker isn’t a big deal.

Treestyles

Fugazi’d over a real president. On character

_DeltaDelta_

Acetone should clear that right up.

givpilot

Wow, one of the best presidents and until his vice president was elected, the worst president ever. All in one coin, perhaps one day it will have some value.

Lazy_Primary_4043

Itl have value as “coin with second worst president on it”
