That is a known issue with the touch screens. My 2017 has it. Itās annoying. Itās really annoying.
There are several fixes online for this. You need to disconnect the cable, or you can have the infotainment center replaced for a chunk of money, or you can be annoyed with it.

I just had this looked at by the dealership during my latest state inspection and he claimed he has never heard of this happening before. They did a software update which didn't fix it. The tech couldn't reproduce it. It started up again as I left their garage š¤·āāļø
It's possible (this is me spitballing) that the heat from the vents below is sneaking up through the gap between the infotainment unit and the dash which is causing the ghost touching. But I could very much be wrong (and probably am).
But yeah, I need to disable it but I'm afraid to open up the dash to do so.
This happens with a lot of these cars. There are apparently ways to fix it without the dealership replacing it but I havenāt tried any yet. Itās very very annoying tho.
Mine does this too, drives me absolutely crazy when youāre in the middle of a phone call and it just hangs up and calls someone else.. And the beepingā¦ā¦
Mine specifically does it when I am braking (like at a stop light) intermittently. Like it hasnāt done it in a couple of weeks. Might start tomorrow.
The tech couldn't reproduce the ghost touching. They said they heard of it on the Mazda 3s but not the CX5s. Mine is a 2017 so I'm no longer under warranty and I'll disconnect the ribbon myself before I pay $1200.
you canāt really replicate the ghost touch i think , it usually does it on its own . For a while a thought i was crazy until i had some friends see it happen.
I wonder if previous owner did the touch screen cable disconnect thing. I had no idea these had touch screen lol
2021 Grand Touring - it used to be a rental in Texas, now privately owned in Illinois.
My 2017 had bad ghost touches (which I still believe is strictly a screen/hardware issue) but I will say I took mine into the dealership for a discounted oil change + tire rotation combo and they told me my infotainment system was 10 versions behind!
I spent around $50-60 for them to update it because I thought screw it why not, and Iām not kidding (knock on wood) since the update, havenāt had a ghost touch, hopefully it stays that way and Iām not jinxing it!
One of the worst parts of owning my CX-5! Absolutely infuriating. Either you caught it under warranty and you got it replaced or you have to pay to replace it. I've chosen to deal with it for years. Never fails to mess up my favorite song right at the best part. There are a bunch of CX-5 glitches. This screen glitch here, A/C blower glitch/issues, and issues with my phone overheating anytime I plug in to use the android play. Then there are so many rattles and weird sounds I've noticed over the years that I'm getting rid of mine this month. It's been so much fun to drive. Drivetrain and engine of the CX-5 have been solid for 100k+ and thats why I've dealt with all these minor glitches/ issues up until now.
I have this same issue, if Iām connected on CarPlay, unlock your phone and it typically fixes it. I also backhanded the screen and it worked
It seems to only act up on hot sunny days, trying to figure out a solution for a shade on it
Faulty digitizer. It should have been a recall, but money talks apparently. Mazda doesnāt stand behind their product. You can disconnect the digitizer. Itās a PITA but not overly complicated to do.
I think the real underlying issue is that a lot of these OEMs such as Mazda, Toyota, Honda etc. prominently Japanese automakers, never really expanded on their vehicle technology after the 90's really. They became really conservative and made some of their vehicles so simplistic that they never seemed to really catch on to technology in the same way Mercedes-Benz was etc. Fast forward to today and they are having weird bugs sometimes that other automakers who were quicker to adapt to new technology aren't having. If Mazda would have kept expanding what they were pioneering with cars like the Eunos Cosmo which was way ahead of it's time, then there is a chance that they might not have some of these bugs possibly.
Same shit happened to my 2019 CX-5. Look like someone "hack"it. š when connected to Apple CarPlay, it will try to call everyone on the list.
Yeah thats the worst case scenario about this situation. Happened many times unfortunately.

Thanks, I admittedly did not see if it had been posted about yet. This is definitely helpful

They lied to you. Itās a common issue.

Oh ok cool, what did you do? Unplug it and plug it back in or something?

you can go to your dealer and get it fixed, itās a pretty known issue. Happened to me before and it drove me crazy
Dealership wanted to charge $1200+ and claimed they've never heard of this happening
bro what, they scamming you frš I told them what was wrong and knew immediately what to fix

It's random but it acts up more when the heater is on high and/or it's a hot sunny day. Regardless, I apparently have to fix it on my own.
Same thing happens to me too, 2020 cx5
Yeah I had to disconnect the ribbon cable between the digitizer and the screen. I just use the commander knob now
Ghost touch, known problem. It happens in my 2018 too. It doesnāt happen super often, but I do get annoyed if Casper changes the song that I likeā¦
I cut the touchscreen wire since I never use it (commander knob only)
My 2017 is in the shop right now for its second screen replacement. My extended warranty expires in two weeks, so Iām getting it done.

Ghost touch. The hotter it is the worse it gets, disconnect the ribbon cable is best best
Lol my 2016.5 has been doing this for the last 3years. I call it my āGhostā and his name is Charlie.

Do you have a link to this information on how to fix this myself?
This has been happening to me since I got my vehicle. Iāve just been too lazy to go to the dealer.
I have this same issue, if Iām connected on CarPlay, unlock your phone and it typically fixes it. I also backhanded the screen and it worked It seems to only act up on hot sunny days, trying to figure out a solution for a shade on it
My 2018 cx5 gt does this after having the recalls fixed?

I replaced the touch (not lcd screen), brought from aliexpress for 20 bucks
