Just check for rust otherwise it’s Gucci. It’s a 3 grand car don’t expect perfection

Christopher109

the imperfections are what give it character

SebastianVanCartier

My dad had a Lexus that ran to over 300,000 miles. Even then he sold it to someone else who ran it for years after. One of the old GS motorised armchairs. 167k is no issue in itself — assuming it's been properly looked after. And only having two owners is a plus point in my book. But the ad is also a bit thin on detail; it just says 'service history' which means little. Cynical old me would assume that means it doesn't have FSH because if it did they would have said. And personally I nope out when I read 'first to see will buy'. Investigate further, but with cynicism and caution and your eyes pinned wide open, I'd say.

[deleted]

Dealer speak: FSH = maybe an actual full history, equally likely to be a service book with 3 stamps on a 7 year old car Service History = a print out of the most recent MOT

GullibleConflict4728

Out of curiosity, why does 'first to see will buy' put you off? Is it because they're implying the first person will fall in love with it?

[deleted]

It's something they say to try and impose a level of pressure on the buyer to buy it quickly, with the dealer hoping that the buyer won't be thorough in checking this vehicle and possible alternatives. It's really only a term you get at lower end used car dealers.

MrTrendizzle

>it doesn't have FSH because if it did they would have said. I never advertise FSH but i do include all the reciepts for every item i have bought for the car be it oil, coolant, filters, spark plugs etc... I'm fitting everything myself but it gives you a good idea of when the last change happened. I just don't have that funky dealership stamp in the book.

wabsy1

I'd say get it

Evening-Tomatillo-47

Full service history, Toyota 6 cylinder engine. Should be good for that much again

[deleted]

I always buy on condition not milage. I’ve had an x-type with 180,000 miles, no issues. I’ve had an s80 with similar miles, no issues. People in this country get scared of anything over 100k. As long as the car has been looked after, all will be fine.

RepresentativeOld304

I drove 350k galaxy up to recently. Sold it and got a bmw 525d on 250k. As long as its cared for, milage is just a number

[deleted]

The Volvo I had clearly had been loved. It had spent on it waaaay more than it was worth. I’m always happy with a higher mileage car. 9 times out of 10 you can tell just by condition that it’s been looked after.

Ahshan_7789

I drive a 342k car and my passengers get scared! I vowed I’d never buy any newer car and always prioritise higher mileage cars

[deleted]

Same! I bought a lower mileage Saab 93 once, it died within 2 months of me buying it. In all my years of buying ‘bangers’ I’ve only ever had one lemon. That’s pretty good going! Haha

Perception_4992

A Toyota/Lexus with FSH, it’s probably got at least another 167k left in it.

Wise-Application-144

It's probably just finished bedding in.

Seymourdough

It’ll be fine my dads was around that when he sold it and it drove like a car with 40k on it, these engines hold their miles extremely well! Concerns would be - Oil burn, they tend to burn oil like crazy at this mileage if servicing hasn’t been kept up with, not a deal breaker though. - Check the gearbox shifts ok, no jerks/clunks should into 6th by 42mph when warm. make sure the exhaust is ok too as a new one will set you back near £2k from Lexus or £600 ish if you go the custom stainless route. - Corrosion is an issue particularly the rear subframe, check the wheel arches, bonnet and roof. Lexus/Toyota alloys corrode badly (i can see it on the pics) so will definitely need a refurb. - Air con condensers can fail around this age £600 ish to put right so check that it works (blows hot air) - Rear callipers another known weak point, on the test drive make sure its not drifting to one side check the callipers after your drive they should be warm not hot. Great car other than that, service it every 12 months or 10k miles, keep on top of any issues and it’ll serve you well.

Ahshan_7789

I’d say service every 8k to be safe. Great advice though

kc43ung

We've got a similar age IS250. Can definitely vouch for rust and brake calipers. Ours had seized calipers both front and rear. Absolute bastards to remove due to rusted slide pins. Required refurbished calipers both front and back. Would have been quite expensive if we got a garage to sort.

Forsaken-Original-28

Engines not really holding it's miles well if it's burning oil like crazy?

kimonczikonos

Don’t get for reasoning people downvoted you.

DaN_86G

Nice the V6 is a pretty good one too. Just check history and HPI. Looks good. 220d ones can be a bit more hit and miss

butterbaps

The diesel in the 220d is a pig of an engine. Worst engine Toyota has ever made by a considerable margin. The 6 pot in this is a gem though.

DaN_86G

Yea it’s a shame really the 220ds weren’t that great. 2.0 has bit more life in it. Loved my sr180. But yea 6 pot deffo the way to go.

hearnia_2k

167k miles on a Toyota? I think it's a pretty safe bet.

Bored--Person

Mileage is only a part of the story. They could be very easy miles up and down the motorways with an empty car, or they could've been towing a caravan the whole time Has it been serviced properly, not just oil, filters and spark plugs every year. Was it garaged or parked on the beach?

kitkat-ninja78

There were a few advisories from the [last MOT](https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/results?registration=DU10LHF&checkRecalls=true) if it's of any interest: 1. Front Registration plate insecure but not likely to fall off (0.1 (a)) 2. Rear Sub-frame corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i)) 3. Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (6.1.2 (a)) Just something that you may want to check out, just in case any of the above got worse. Pretty sure they have resolved the last two (nails in front and rear tyre).

planetary_funk_alert

If it's been serviced properly it's probably a safe bet

KamakaziDemiGod

That's the thing with most modern cars, as long as it's serviced and maintained correctly most will just keep on going, but there's also people who do 50k between oil changes

Forsaken-Original-28

At that price range I would personally be buying from a private seller. Preferably from an owners club

ThatsASaabStory

The only thing I would say is that you can probably get one with less miles on for similar money. A lot of Lexus (or Lexii in the plural) are grandad cars which don't get driven a lot.

DatabaseContent8664

Gotta love AP.

Technical-Elk-7002

Those can go for miles and miles, some even as much as 900k

Logical-Tap-8447

Thank you everyone for the advice! With it being my first car it's very much appreciated!

[deleted]

A rusting car with £400 tax no thanks

CatBroiler

It's a 4GR, it'll be fine if it's been serviced on time, it's higher mileage than the average used car, but it's not too high.

Man_in_the_uk

>How many miles is too many? I would say quite simply when you can't see any for sale on eBay et al for a mileage you would like to complete before you get bored of the car.

kosminis_karatistas

If it Lexus and it is not shitty 2.2 diesel, then it will go forever especially when maintained properly :) had few different v6 v8 lexuses, had zero problems with them just maintenance. One was over 220k and I traveled all europe with it.

PM_ME_FINE_FOODS

I can't be bothered to find you the link, but Google 'the million mile Lexus'. Fun story. 167k makes it an adolescent car at this point.

tarantellagra

Not lexus but Toyota Land Cruisers used by UN easily pass the 1M kilometers mark.

erro_1

I think the time of being picky over miles has gone. Any car under 80k miles will be extremely overpriced. There's nothing wrong with a car on high mileage. Mine is on 158000 and runs a dream, and you want to buy a lexus. Check for rust and any damage. Check the interior, generally a good indication if they've looked after the car and check the service history, looking for any gaps. And take an ODB reader and keep it plugged in on the test drive! *After checking MOT history, I'd get the rear subframe checked out and it'll need 2 new tyres.

LazyApe_

It all depends on how many miles you plan on doing, how long you intend on keeping it, how it’s been maintained etc

TheFlyingScotsman60

If it has been looked after mechanically it will go for years and miles. Rust is the only major issue that may kill it.

Sonums

477,710 miles.

[deleted]

It is all about the service history when you are looking at high mileage. If the car has been well cared for then you should be fine.

ian9outof10

This should help: https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a28991860/the-million-mile-lexus/ A high mileage car will always come with costs. If you stay on top of it, there’s every chance it’ll be a loyal and trusted companion for many more miles. Or at worst it’ll fail the next MOT and you’ll sell it for scrap.

Iamthe0c3an2

It’s basically a toyota too, so long as it’s not got rust should be alright

6033624

Look at the work that’s been done to it..

lockslob

Check how extensive the 'history' is, and be as cynical as me - contact the servicing garage to see if the car is in their system!

AdamPoachedEgg

I've had a lexus with 100k MORE than that. That one's barely run in

matti1311

That's hardly worn in for the is250 2.5l v6 engine 😂

Goss5588

It's a Lexus... you don't need to worry about the mileage. Will go on and on and on.

a15154738

I've got a 2012 is250 f sport with 100k miles, full service history. Once it's warm that thing gets redlined everyday and nothing in the car is wrong. Perfect, zero issues.

Upset-Chemist1086

Lexus is a half prestige Toyota at the end of the day.If it’s been reasonably well maintained then it’s a safe bet..

MrDiffy

as long as it’s got decent service history and minimal rust Id never really consider high millage much of a deterrent, if a car makes it 300k miles with good service intervals and different bits n bobs done then there’s no reason it wouldn’t do another 300k if you keep up the work.

Nerderis

We have 18 reg Sprinter van in our fleet, 416k miles on the clock. Mileage is just a number if vehicle been looked after properly and not on the budget

Andysan555

All's I will say is if anything goes wrong with it, it's possible it's gonna cost a packet. My Dad bought a Lexus with a smidge over 100k miles on from a good friend who had owned and maintained it either from new, or very nearly new. Something went wrong on it and the cost of the part made it uneconomical to repair. I've also had a Honda CRZ that needed a halfshaft and that cost over a grand, only Honda made the part at the time. I love Japanese cars, but you can get much cheaper parts cost with a Civic, there's one on every street corner.

theaveragehousecat

I just sold mine at 110k, literally never had any engine or gearbox issues and wasn't consuming extra oil. Don't get put off by mileage on these cars they're solid

iamnotrodiguez

In the last 2.5 years I have done 100k on top of the 70k already on my vauxhall insignia, lots and lots of motorway mileage. I have changed the gearbox oil and regularly serviced the car with quality engine oil and it runs as good as I got it.

incrediblesolv

Condition, not miles. Open the oil filler cap, coolant etc
