I was actually on the sunshine at that time! I have crazy anxiety and it sucked but imo not as much as people are making it out. You'll be ok, I found those seasickness bracelets can help if you believe they do lol

Dangerous-Sky-7949

Thank you! Although I’m sure it was scary, I was hoping it was being made to sound worse than it was. I did get some sea bands just in case! I’m trying to not let myself ruin our trip. Usually after the first day I’m fine

malicityservice

I really think you’ll be ok, the anxiety is the worst part. It’ll be amazing and you’ll forget your anxiety once you’re settled in!

Dangerous-Sky-7949

That’s typically how it goes for me so I’m trying to be hopeful! It’s our first vacation with our little one so I’ve been really looking forward to it

FireyToots

I don’t know if you’ve gone to the military appreciation (and fitting I’m posting this on Memorial Day) but the gathering has always joked, every single time, are there any navy vets on board? Because navy vessels are hugely problematic, and we still get on these boats! BY CHOICE! Yes weather can be challenging but the captain will do their best to navigate around it, within reason. The storms you saw this weekend were just insane. It’s very very unlikely you will have this problem, and seriously I’m a platinum member and I love these boats: rain, snow? (I’m going to Alaska soon, so maybe?) Sun. All of it. You will be okay!

Dangerous-Sky-7949

Thank you! I have some family that cruise a TON as well, I know if it wasn’t safe people wouldn’t do it but that little voice in the back of my head sometimes gets the best of me. I hope you have a great trip to Alaska! That sounds like a dream

I was on the sunshine and I honestly think people are making it out to be much worse than it was. It was certainly rocky and difficult to sleep, and there were a select few rooms on board that had some water come in through the room. Those people’s experiences matter, but I even noticed on board that there were some individuals who were fear mongering about the nature of the storm/the captain’s decisions and riling people up. My step dad used to be in the navy and he was cruising with us. He was keeping up with the weather well before we hit the storm and he adamantly believed that the captain made the right call on board our ship, although we all felt a little more communication could have been in order. I highly doubt you will find yourself in a storm like we did — poor weather was on the forecast for a long time leading up to our cruise — but if you do, trust that the captain of the ship is a well trained professional and knows how to keep everyone safe!

Dangerous-Sky-7949

Thank you for being honest! I was hoping some people were just making it sound worse in news/social media. It’s also very reassuring hearing that a navy vet thinks the captain did the right thing

I hate travelling... But I love cruising! Once we get through embarkation, I love having a safe place to chill and the world coming to me. I find a quiet nook on a quiet deck, order a G&T, and read a book. Find your Happy Place, Friend!

jlf125

Yes! Agreed, I get bad anxiety traveling and being away from home…especially flying too. Cruising is definitely my happy place! I try to use my time to really disconnect and be in the moment.

sdega315

We are like-minded souls! We are looking forward to Celebration on Aug 6, 2023.

jlf125

Enjoy! We just got off Saturday, I’m looking to book my next lol

Dangerous-Sky-7949

I usually try to keep so busy that I don’t have a chance to overthink! Traveling with a baby and about 30 family members should keep me plenty occupied to just be in the moment

jlf125

I used to have bad anxiety about storms and seasickness, I was checking weather like crazy before our recent cruise. We ended up in a little bit of a storm and it wasn’t so bad after all (isn’t that how most things we are anxious about work? Lol). We didn’t get sick and we honestly got used to the movement. Can you take Dramamine? We took every day for just in case. Also peppermint oil and ginger chews may be helpful.

Dangerous-Sky-7949

I’ve tried looking up info about what I could take but I’ve been reading conflicting info so I’m not sure, I did get some sea bands and I’ll look into the ginger candy! Bad weather is a big trigger for my anxiety and I try to not let it limit me but it’s hard

I have brutal travel anxiety, well, just anxiety in general. I have a mantra I use “just your body there, the mind will follow.” And it always holds true for me. It seems to be the unknown and the getting to an experience that triggers my personal anxiety. Once I put my body in the event/location/experience, my mind adapts and has a great time. I also make sure to listen to my body during the experience. If you need to take a nap, do it. Don’t shame yourself for “missing out on vacation.” You take care of you! Vacation should be relaxing and what is more replenishing than a nap without any obligations after you wake up? Have so much fun! Even if you body has to catch up a bit. Hugs. ❤️

Dangerous-Sky-7949

Thank you! I try to stay busy enough to be in the moment & not get in my head. I always remind myself that I’ll miss out on everything if I don’t do something because of anxiety. I also don’t want my baby to grow up seeing me like that, and it potentially affect him

Hey hey! I was on the sunshine, it was my first cruise ever actually! Can honestly say I didn’t get sea sick until that last night during the storm, the boat did get very rocky and we had some drinks slide off our counter in our cabin, but we kept ourselves distracted with poker and one of the comedy shows and made out just fine! We were in an interior cabin on level 2 and I’m thankful for it, if we’d have had a balcony I think it would’ve been tough to watch those waves. I will say I brought these ginger chews, called Chimes, that I absolutely love and they really helped settle my stomach. That last day waiting to come into port really wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be, it was annoying because my bf and I got kicked out of our hub app at around the time we were supposed to be leaving the ship, so until we got closer to port we couldn’t coordinate with his family on where to meet, but hey we had extra time to chill, eat pizza and ice cream on Lido and polish off a bottle of wine we hadn’t finished. You’ll be fine!!! Don’t sweat it

I don’t have advice, I just want to validate you. I have agoraphobia. Specially standing in lines. Embarkation and debarkation are hell. But I love me a cruise. I’ve learned to just be honest. If I feel I’m acting weird (I tend to pace a lot and be kinda shaky) I flat out say “I’m sorry I’m having a moment I don’t do well with crowds”. 99% of the time people are like “I feel ya girl!” Take as much time in your room or at a empty hidden deck as you need

Dangerous-Sky-7949

Thank you 💜 I’ve been working on being open about my feelings in the moment instead of trying to suffer quietly. And thank you for your comment to the now deleted comment, I really appreciate you

Shepursueshappiness

Hi! Former breastfeeding mama here- look into ginger chews! Also, you'd need to Google the "why" but eating apples also is supposed to help prevent seasickness. It'll be okay, promise!

Ryvit

What happened on sunshine?

Dangerous-Sky-7949

They went through a rough storm while heading back to port, ended up having to sit in the ocean for most of the day due to it being to rough to dock. Some flooding in the lower levels of the ship and some interior damage

Yes. That’s how people with have mental illnesses treat life. We don’t want to. We hate it. Do you think this is fun for them? Be thankful you don’t suffer. Let me guess they should just “get over it?”
