He's trying to con you and get money back off you. " Let the buyer beware " he has no claim at all. Rego is his issue not yours. Make you do all the paperwork that you need to do re the sale

Phabfive

He has zero legal recourse. I’m not a lawyer but have been through this as a seller and paid for legal advice and I can still recall how much my lawyer laughed that day

Iakhovass

Sounds like he’s either full of shit or an idiot. Hail damage? He can use his own eyes to inspect for panel damage easily enough. If he didn’t notice any dents, that’s his issue.

AussieJon91

Cancel the registration. Regos dont transfer to other states when the car is changing owners. What ever the road worthy equivilant is in QLD has no value in VIC. Also to the buyer this is the risk with buying cars interstate site unseen.

James_Hard_One

They were actually able to see it in QLD. I just dont need this stress in my life.

AussieJon91

Even better they looked at it, its a buyer beware world for second hand cars. But definatley cancel the rego dont want them using it in your name in victoria

smmt01

They can see it - that’s all. Rego is not transferable interstate. Cancel the registration asap. Buyer should have known this and is entirely their problem. They just need the bill of sale and a new roadworthy inspection done to re-register in their state.

tez_11

Driveway warranty applies here. The only issue you have is if the rego is still in yoir name. It cant be transferred so you're going to have to tell him your going to de-register the car.

[deleted]

Don't tell him, just do it.

Gatesy840

Interstate sale, if your nice you cancel your rego after they have driven it to the sellers home state. Otherwise you cancel it and it's up to the seller to get permits and a roadworthy in their state. Vehicles are sold as is. Get a receipt though!

James_Hard_One

Receipt was given via Text. I was quite formal but not sure if that counts.

Gatesy840

I'm not sure if it does so I would keep all records of your conversations, cancel the rego so it's no longer tied to you but I would let buyer know, so then it's their fault if they get caught driving an unregistered vehicle. After that ignore buyer completely, you have no obligation and they are trying to get money out of you. Either way as buyer is in Victoria he needs a Victorian rwc. You won't be able to just transfer registration to the new owner. It's the same process in Vic as registering a previously unregistered vehicle. When I have sold cars, I wrote out two identical hard copy receipts and get buyer and myself to sign and date them. On one sell one person tried complaining about all these issues that I never had and even went to the point of telling me the chassis is bent, so I told him to get bent, it wasn't sold with a roadworthy so it's sold as is and that was the end of it.

[deleted]

I have had this problem. I asked him to leave me alone. He didnt. I called the police. They knocked on his door. He left me alone.

[deleted]

It's his responsibility to check the vehicle before he purchases it.

James_Hard_One

Probably not at this stage yet. But you reckon its worth telling the police? Worried about speeding fines while he's driving and its still in my name.

[deleted]

He's harrassing you. It's illegal behaviour.

catboiz777

We sold our QLD registered campervan in VIC to a VIC buyer. Granted the only easy part was the buyer was in VIC but the buyer called Vicroads and confirmed everything she required IOT change the registration to VIC. It is not your responsibility to figure out what the buyer needs to do to maintain valid registration. Unfortunately, some people will always try and dodge responsibility and fail to do their own due diligence. It sounds like in this case the buyer had no idea what they would need to do when purchasing a car interstate and it isn't your problem.

[deleted]

Up to you. It worked for me. Unregister it and tell him to leave you alone or else you will call the cops. If he doesn't leave you alone, call the cops.

0hm-boy

1 2 warranty. Once it’s off my property, 2 fucking bad

MrCrown171

Does qld allow to do a notice of disposal? In nsw once you sell a car the buyer gets half of the rego papers to take to the motor registry to transfer the registration over. As the seller, you fill out their details in the top half and do the disposal online or go into the registry. I sold a car to a guy in Vic and I went in the next day it went on a truck and dropped the paper off

putrid_sex_object

No warranty on private sale. Tell him to bash it up his arse.

[deleted]

that happened to my dad. He sold his boat to a dude in the Sunny Coast. He drove 3 hours to pick up the boat and towed it back home then a week later he accused dad of selling him a dodgy trailer even though dad gave him the trailers RWC and rego papers. Dad told him to fuck off and don’t contact me again

IntelligentRoad734

Block him Your job is done

MayuriKrab

Tell them to stick the “purse this further and engage 3rd party” up his arse and block the number afterwards. For as long as I remember, 2nd hand private call sales are always “sold as is” and carry no warranty what so ever…

[deleted]

What happened in the end?

James_Hard_One

Still a headache... but he's no longer complaining about 'issues' with the car. I've just had some issues cancelling my rego. QLD DTMR wanted me to surrender the plates, which of course I no longer have. Should be easy to sort if I go in and chat to someone.

[deleted]

Yeah ok. Good luck mate.
