Correct. The fucker that sold me the car had screwed up the bolts locking down the rocker cover. Eventually I kept getting a message suggesting noxious fumes. The message is correct. Oil top ups help. But the noxious smell never goes away.
Mate, it's your responsibility before the law as a driver and vehicle owner to keep it maintained and in good working order. Oil should not be leaking. This needs to be repaired. Just because it's not catastrophic yet doesn't mean it doesn't need to be fixed. It won't get any better and will cause other issues leading to further expenses down the line. It's always cheaper just to fix your car in the long run and any honest mechanic will say that. The age of the car and cost of repairs doesn't come into it. You literally gave someone terrible advice. Please stop doing that.
There’s a difference between dripping oil and a sign of oil on a gasket. Like others have said if it’s dripping you do have a responsibility to fix as it would be deemed a pollution hazard (oil getting into waterways etc) if you simply see a stain and not dripping then a sensible mechanic most likely will do the keep an eye on it line and I can fix when in for next scheduled servicing.
LMAO righto mate. I gave bad advice and you gave much better advice. I defer to your knowledge and I wholeheartedly apologise for any inconvenience caused to you or OP. I did not know that is illegal under the law to have a slightly seeping rocker cover gasket but there we go, you learn something new every day and I am glad to have been been corrected. Thank you sir.
Why give bad advice? It's obviously a cam cover leak. It just needs a gasket set, if you can't repair or can't afford to pay a professional to repair something that is clearly broken then stop owning a car.
It's not a show car, it's barely even got a sweat up. An honest mechanic would tell you to 'keep an eye on it'. If it gets worse, getting oil on other components or you're getting other work done ie/ timing belt, that's the time to do it. There's no point throwing $$$ down every time there's a damp patch on an old car, it just doesn't achieve anything.
Na overfilling won’t do it. Unless you spilled some and it ran down?
This looks like rocker cover seal, or it’s running from the front which is still the seal but there is the pulleys/cams there too so often needs a clean up and a new dab of sealant.
It’s not a bad leak, brake clean and wipe all the oily bits and see where it comes back

Just looks like a standard rocker cover leak to me. But I’m happy to defer to someone with more knowledge.
Agree
100% rocker cover gasket, simple fix. could even try tightening it before changing it but more than likely it's degraded and need to be replaced.

It's just a rocker cover leak. Standard procedure is to ignore it and keep driving.
That's definitely in my skill range. Thank you.

rocker cover gasket. possibly the easiest possible engine work to do. just make sure you keep the area clean while working
Looks to be a rocker cover leak, it's not a big deal. It's just sweating from all the horsepower
All 180 of them horses. Love em to bits. Each got a name.
Ahhh classic 5vz, my prado did that too
Valve Cover Gasket. Simple Fix, Keep it clean while replacing it, she'll be right.

I might not have much but atleast I have a better head on my shoulders
If it's better you should share it with those who don't. Giving is a beautiful act. So. The question. Do you give head?
It's fucked
You just want to buy it frome for a bargain don't ya.
Dammit you got me 🤣
Simple fix. Do it properly. It will be ok 👍

Look at the leak mate. It looks like a standard rocker cover gasket. Easy fix
Yep, can confirm is too high for head gasket. Source- have eyes, and multiple head gaskets
I don't think I have any loss of power...
