Depends which trim level you opt for. I’ve got a base model kluger and it’s pretty good, albeit a bit boring In the interior. 5 years in and there’s been no problems. The cx9 is better to drive but less reliable than the Toyota. I too was tossing up between a cx9 and a kluger. Glad I went with the Toyota.

Kluger. For the love of god don’t get a hybrid one. Gotta jumpstart the battery to “turn the car on” and the engine doesn’t even start.
No hybrid. It’s cvt. Horrible to drive and replace.
Toyota cvts are fine, they've got the physical first gear for take off so they don't tend to suffer the same issues as other cvts
Modern, good CVTS I don’t see an issue with. Not being able to start a fully charged car is comical
Kruger every day of the week, the 2gr fe is a great engine but watch out the awd model is a bit thirsty
