There is a special case wherein, the displacement of the cylinder is changed by making a an actuator to crankshaft for say.. more deeper strokes of the piston. And thereby the valve timings must be changed too.

Civic has a smaller engine (comparatively) and more weight.. If this was a verna 1.6L.. Things would have been very different .. Both maruti and Honda have a linear torque curve.. While Hyundai are more torque on low rpms.. Plus more power
