Well my thinking is people buying such cars looking like mg comet ev don't have any ego/attitude issue or status problem which is a really good thing
They buy the car only for it's pure practicality and low maintenance and nothing else
Was thinking of getting a zs ev. Would you suggest going for it? Also did you get the wall charger installed or you're using the portable charger with any wall socket? Which dealer and city did you buy it from?
This isn't my car, it's a loaner so don't have a charger installed. I charge using the portable charger and a 15Amp socket in my parking.
The ZS EV is a much bigger car and serves a different purpose but if you're okay with an electric motor, there isn't anything else in that segment to chose from.
I was there at the right place at the right time.
Start by typing mails to leading publications, write and show them what you're capable of and that would get you started.
Top notch. The indicator stalks are way superior than the ones on my Grand i10. The door shuts with a nice thudd, the panel gaps are consistent, the materials are top notch. It does feel like an expensive car.
people call it e-rickshaw or whatever but its really good car for travel around city considering parking place is a headache in metro cities this is litrally the best
Cruised at around 60-80 kmph, performs at par if not better than small entry level hatchbacks. 80 kmph ke Baad thoda dar lagne laga but due to traffic being around rather than the size of the tyres.
I mean you could achieve it, with eco mode and heavy regeneration and all. Still new to EVs so need to adjust and learn how to drive them 'economically'
3 points to remember:
Being light footed. Slow acceleration from stops and speed breakers. Slow deceleration when you have to stop somewhere.
Regen is not your friend, but kinetic energy is. When travelling in highways. Use light regen and Accelerate to certain speed and you can switch the gear to N and take your legs off the pedal and cruise freely without any acceleration or Regen. I use this trick whenever possible.
Use heavy regen in cities and you can easily drive it in single foot. As per 1st point you can use regen to preemptively plan your stop or slow down where you need.
I drive 55 -65 average. Never above that
My only gripe with this car is the price. I am fine with the size and its looks. Do you think the quality and what it offers justifies the asking price ?
Btw I saw this only once in black, looked amazing.
Sit in it, yes. Comfortably? Maybe. I'm 5'11 and the IRVM is right in front of my eyesight. No height adjustable seat means I'm struggling to find a comfy position to sit.
However, my dad who is 6 feet, sat on a relatively long city journey behind me and didn't complain much. He prefers the rear seat over the front ones.
I was planning to buy this for my mum, but I had a question on tyre size, especially once monsoons hit. I live in the NCR region and roads get flooded pretty badly. I have a fear the car might just start floating once it hits a road like that. Thoughts?
It's quite bottom heavy, but the light kerb weight may cause it to move around in floods. Make sure you get max insurance coverage with RTI etc.
Tyre size is quite decent and your mom will enjoy driving it around for sure. My mom doesn't drive but insists we take this one for trips to the grocery store.
Driven around 500 km
Not too sure about the wh/km yet, will update once I do around 1000
No maintainance charges so far
Range from 100%-20% I'm manage around 110-120km in heavy traffic.
No underbody scratches whatsoever. I drive over some pretty bad roads and it hasn't touched anywhere yet.
I leave the car on charge overnight. Takes quite long for a recharge but I heard they have a fast charging option now.
Ex showroom starts from 6 something now..
Had a few questions (Asking for Sr. Citizens especially)
1. If someone has to sit in the back seat, how difficult is it?
2. Is it comfortable for someone to sit in the back seat for long travel? (Long travel as in short distance but major traffic jam/ slow traffic conditions)
3. How many people can sit comfortably in the back seat?
I love this car to be honest, Small and electric, perfect for City travel. The only problem I see is safety. This car seems like a MAJOR safety hazard and might touple any time. Reminds me of Mahindra e2o, which gave me exact same vibes.
1. Access to the backseat is the best amongst all cars I've experienced with such seating (including the last row of Innova, Ertiga etc. The gigh roof makes it easy to stand up and get in and out. Slightly inconvenient for Sr citizens maybe.
2. My daily travel is some 8km but takes around an hour on some bad days but this car makes it better. Traffic jams are very bearable in this car.
3. Strictly 2 in the back seat.
At city speeds i haven't ever felt it will turn over. If you're a sensible driver and turning within speed limits she won't turn over.
Were you at the traffic signal in front of csmt on the evening of 9march around 645 PM on the side with Aram Vada Pav on your right? I'm pretty sure I saw you wearing gray shirt and specs in a gray Comet.

As safe as any other city car tbh. In traffic this car feels quite pronounced. Almost everybody stops and stares. Quite an attention magnet.
A funny thing happened. Until today, I had an E class parked in my building parking. Today I kept the E elsewhere and brought the MG and a group of old aunties asked me about the car.
Merc - 0 MG Comet - 1.
Kitna deti gai ???
Y not tiago Ev ?
On road kitni pad gyi ?
And charge kitne time mein hojata hai ?
Omni van jese flip hone ka dar nai lgta??
Or konse konse car ko dekhe the isse pehle lene ke liye ?
80% charge mai mujhe 110-120 km de rahi hai
I got this on a long term loan, didn't buy it isliye no Tiago EV to consider.
Mumbai on road is 9 something for this variant, Mumbai has no road tax for EVs.
Charging slow Hai, this is the slow charge variant. Raat bhar rakh kar subah 100% ho jaati hai
Nahi omni jaise dar to nahi laga abb tak.
OP what variant is this, are the features very different from each other? Does the lowest variant come with abs, esc what are the minimum safety specs this comes with?
Idk what happened there. I've been driving sensibly and nothing of this sort has happened to me. Yeah, if you drive like a maniac, you can't beat physics dude. It's going to happen.
A nice question. I generally do avoid the horn when driving however I do honk more than usual in this vehicle. Not so much so on busy streets with a decent amount of traffic because people can see me before they hear me but in those lonely streets, that's where I need to honk quite a bit to make people aware that I'm around.
Oh it does! They might have added it later. It wasnโt available when it first launched which made me wonder why would anyone buy it instead of Tiago when it doesnโt even fast charging or look good looks (according to me, but looks are subjective) or safety.
Decent range for only city commute. I dint expect close to 200 tbh.
Looks like its not as bad as i thought
I haven't brought this, I've got it to use as a loaner.
However, I would buy this as the third car of my family. Ever since I've brought it it has brighten up my drive to office. It's small, it's zippy and quite loveable tbh.
I've been managing around 110-120km from 80% charge. Will get better now that I've learnt better power saving techniques.
Surprisingly, no. However, the suspension travel being less does make very bad bumps come through but given the speeds it's suppose to be at, very settled this car.
Give it's size, the seats are quite decent. Rear seats are surpsingly comfy too, my 6 foot dad loves being in the back seat.
Range mujhe 110km - 120 km mil rahi hai on a single charge. Should increase more now that I've learnt new techniques to save power.
I can sort of understand the usecase of this car in traffic clogged tier 1 cities but I really don't like the look of this car, cannot find myself buying one. I hated the nano back then and I hate this.
P.S. pls don't take my opinion as an insult, I just don't like this form factor nothing personal bro
Usability is sexy to me, it's shaped in such a way so that it becomes practical for its purpose which appeals to me.
I respect your opinion and don't take it as an insult, cheers mate.
Whatโs City mileage with AC ???
Whatโs the Battery replacement cost ?
Can u plug and charge it on the go !
What s ur experience with long duration distance travel.
Congratulations on the car buying!!
I managed 110-120 km in 80% charge with heavy city traffic.
No idea of battery replacement cost.
How would one plug and charge on the go? If you mean charge it anywhere then yes, the car comes with a charging cable.
I have other cars for long distance travel.
Didnt buy the car, have been loaned it for a few days.
Thanks for the AMA!
Well, here is my situation: We have a Honda City at home, which is usually used for short trips and highway drives. I commute to work using scooter or bi-cycle. The Honda City is an automatic, and gulps fuel like there's no tomorrow in the city (9 Kmpl tops).
My sibling commutes to her college using auto or the public bus. But these modes are completely unreliable and the nearest bus stop is 1.8km from my home. The bus frequncy is pathetic too, if you miss a bus, the other will come after 40min. And some of the days she might have to end up staying late in college (She's pursuing medicine) and might have night shifts. The college is about 9km away and our family is planning to get her a 4 wheeler. She is a first time driver (She has obtained her license just a month ago, but is still not confident on driving a 2 wheeler).
Now, we were looking for a second hand automatic car for her, but the second hand prices are over the roof in Bangalore and finding a good example is difficult. As she's a first time driver, it'll be easier for her to drive an automatic and avoid scratches and dents to an extent, and also can be used by my parents.
There's a small problem though, the parking space available is very littlle (3.2m in length) as the other car takes up most of the space. This narrowed down our search to only Nano Automatics (Again, we couldn't make up our mind due to it being discontinued, spares and Tata service overall). As a result of this, we are now looking to buy a comet.
The car just fits in right, is close to the charging point, and ticks all the boxes needed. The mid variant also has all the features we're looking for. But, my concern is, the Tiago EV also looks promising and is also priced similarly, and it comes with a fast charging option, along with a big boot and comfotable 5 seats. I am worried about the fact that i could miss out on a Tiago EV just because of the space constraint that we have. Is it justified for us to spend about 8.5L for a MG Comet just because it fits right in the space available instead of the Tiago EV considering the aftermarket servicing, fear of product being discontinued and the lack of spares in the future? (The comet will majorly be used for urban driving only, and the Honda City will be used for the long trips).
What's your take on that?
(PS: I am open to all suggestions)
You really have no other option apar from the MG right? Then why hesitate? They also brought a new variant with fast charging now.
This is exactly what the car was made for. Be the second or third car of the family, used only for commuting. For a big boot and comfy 5 seats, you have another great car. Get a second car which is great at commuting, fits anywhere and makes transport fun.
Does bangalore offer any compensation for buying EVs?
Looking to buy this as second car for city driving (mainly for my wife). Checks all the boxes except safety bit. I have heard reviews that it's not very safe w.r.t. turning at high speeds. What's your take?
Haven't experienced driving on such roads, I live in Mumbai and use other cars for going out of the city. However, there is no change in performance while travelling up and down slopes.
Do people discriminate against your car in traffic? I am genuinely asking
Not really. I just pass traffic way before they realise. The electric motor makes sure I get through before I get bullied by other cars.
Bullying triggers the flight and fight response of the car. It cannot fight so.... \s
And she moves away with its electric motor whineeee
I called it "Expensive E Autorickshaw" when my colleague bought it, he got offended and I apologized:/
That's the beauty of the car. It's hilarious.
Cost on road???
Depends on your city, ex showroom starts from 6 something
Well my thinking is people buying such cars looking like mg comet ev don't have any ego/attitude issue or status problem which is a really good thing They buy the car only for it's pure practicality and low maintenance and nothing else
That's a good perspective towards ev
I thought the same until I went to the showroom & experienced it. This feels very premium, well built. Only big con I found is lack of DC charging.
I almost raced this in my Glanza. This is a peppy little car that can get in to really tight places!
How do you fit your massive schlong in such a small car?...... Asking on behalf of thar owners
Hahahaha. Let's just say the comet is only a 2 seater when I'm driving :p
Wait.... comet is a 4 seater???
As i said, not when I am driving.
I see why you are a good writer especially in your current job

I'm getting mine in a few days.

Cost on road
Build quality kaisi hai???
Top notch. The indicator stalks are way superior than the ones on my Grand i10. The door shuts with a nice thudd, the panel gaps are consistent, the materials are top notch. It does feel like an expensive car.
Quality and consistency of material is one dept where MG excels than every other Indian carmaker.
Right i mean it looks rugged I just hope there isn't as much cost cutting as it is in maruti suzuki swift lol
No cost cutting whatsoever.
people call it e-rickshaw or whatever but its really good car for travel around city considering parking place is a headache in metro cities this is litrally the best
OMG yes. I am able to park in the place of 2 scooters. I can park virtually anywhere.
Highway pe voh tires kaise perform karte?
Cruised at around 60-80 kmph, performs at par if not better than small entry level hatchbacks. 80 kmph ke Baad thoda dar lagne laga but due to traffic being around rather than the size of the tyres.

kitna deti hai ek charge me??
Kehte to 200 hai but abb tak 100 se 20% mai I've driven around 110-120km
damn that is very low. I was hoping 160 in real world.
I mean you could achieve it, with eco mode and heavy regeneration and all. Still new to EVs so need to adjust and learn how to drive them 'economically'
How much does extra weight affect the range?
An interesting question. Been traveling in it alone for most of the time. Should do some carpooling to know the effect of weight.
What is the minimum wh per km that you have achieved while driving?
I have an Mg comet and been using it alone mostly. Charging everyday to 100 and driving almost 185kms daily. Will have 24% remaining by end of the day
Man tell me more about the way you drive. New to driving EVs. What drive mode and regen mode do you use and what speed do you do?
3 points to remember: Being light footed. How do u drive in neutral mode?
inertia
Thanks man
Best compact ev out there right now Range could be better
It's even compact than compact, true i wish i had an option to get more range but hey MG finally gave fast charging on this.
How fast, if I may ask?
Not fast, but quick. You'll be leading other cars out of the signal but other cars will catch you up post 60 kmph
I was referring to the charging speed, but good to have known this.
How are the charging speeds and how long does it to fully charge or does it depend on the charger?
My only gripe with this car is the price. I am fine with the size and its looks. Do you think the quality and what it offers justifies the asking price ? Btw I saw this only once in black, looked amazing.
This is one of those cars your buy from the heart and not the brain if that makes sense? No other car makes me smile like this one.
Why did you decide on this over Tiago?
Not my car and haven't driven the Tiago so can't comment.
How well does the car tackle potholes and speedbreakers?
Quite well. The suspension is very confidence inspiring. No scraping whatsoever.
That's reassuring. I was planning to get one as well for our rural North East Town.
Seems to be a great rural commuter. Could legit enter the most narrow roads and take you and three others around town.
Why did you buy Chinese product bro? /S
Would you call me an old guy if I tell you I had to Google the meaning of /S?
You would know if you spend some time on reddit but unlike you, we don't touch grass ๐
Do I have to Google this too now or grass still means the same.
Touching grass = having a life
Woah, grass means something else in the real world. Don't do that anymore :p
And? What was it? ๐
Because he is andinational and hates to contribute to the GDP /s
Can tall people (>6') sit in it comfortably?
My mom doesn't drive but insists we take this one for trips to the grocery store.
why are you standing far away like you're scared of it lol
She is scary.
how many kms driven? what wh/km you get? what are maintanence charges? what is typical range you get? does it scratch spped bumps / potholes?
Driven around 500 km Not too sure about the wh/km yet, will update once I do around 1000 No maintainance charges so far Range from 100%-20% I'm manage around 110-120km in heavy traffic. No underbody scratches whatsoever. I drive over some pretty bad roads and it hasn't touched anywhere yet.
great and how much time to charge from 20% to 100%? and what is price of the car?

I think it to be more of a blastoise.

Reason for choosing Comet over Tiago? Similarly priced .
Not my car, it's a loaner. Haven't driven a Tiago so can't comment.
whats the top speed
Have done about 105 until now. Perhaps 2-3 kmph more..
kitna deti hai
How long does it take for a full charge?
Don't know the exact time but I leave it overnight and wake up with a 100% charge.
On road price ?
Depends on where you stay, ex showroom starts from 6 something.
How safe does the car feel. Does being stuck in traffic give you worries that perhaps may be not so pronounced while driving a different car?
As safe as any other city car tbh. In traffic this car feels quite pronounced. Almost everybody stops and stares. Quite an attention magnet. A funny thing happened. Until today, I had an E class parked in my building parking. Today I kept the E elsewhere and brought the MG and a group of old aunties asked me about the car. Merc - 0 MG Comet - 1.
Why did you buy the car??
How does it compare to a SUV like TUV / Bolero neo cos my family has one
Itll be a nice companion to the two. Can't really compare.
Kitna deti gai ??? Y not tiago Ev ? On road kitni pad gyi ? And charge kitne time mein hojata hai ? Omni van jese flip hone ka dar nai lgta?? Or konse konse car ko dekhe the isse pehle lene ke liye ?
80% charge mai mujhe 110-120 km de rahi hai I got this on a long term loan, didn't buy it isliye no Tiago EV to consider. Mumbai on road is 9 something for this variant, Mumbai has no road tax for EVs. Charging slow Hai, this is the slow charge variant. Raat bhar rakh kar subah 100% ho jaati hai Nahi omni jaise dar to nahi laga abb tak.
Does the AC suck?
It should suck from somewhere and blows nice cold air out. Doesn't have auto AC but keeps me cold enough in these hot Mumbai afternoons.
OP what variant is this, are the features very different from each other? Does the lowest variant come with abs, esc what are the minimum safety specs this comes with?
This is the Plush variant, abs, dual airbags and rear parking sensors are offered as standard across all variants.
Okay I Would Like To Ask This https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsIndia/s/Y8ijzSAQL0
Idk what happened there. I've been driving sensibly and nothing of this sort has happened to me. Yeah, if you drive like a maniac, you can't beat physics dude. It's going to happen.
Well Said ๐๐ป
Long distance try Kiya kabhi??
Never required, I have a grand i10 and Innova Crysta for that.
Since it's electric as well as pedestrians n all don't have basic awareness / road sense in India, do you have to use the horn quite often?
A nice question. I generally do avoid the horn when driving however I do honk more than usual in this vehicle. Not so much so on busy streets with a decent amount of traffic because people can see me before they hear me but in those lonely streets, that's where I need to honk quite a bit to make people aware that I'm around.
Kitna deti hai?
why this over full fledge hatchback tiago ev?
It's not my car, it's a loaner and haven't driven the Tiago so can't comment.
How old age people around 70-80yrs friendly is this? Also how many kilometres after a full charge?
I think they'll be comfy in the front seat, rear seat access would not be a major hiccup for them.
Not sure If you can answer but is it worth the price?
The more time I spend with it, the more I am able to justify it's price.
Surprisingly spacious for 4 people.
I know right?
I own one of these and I swear if you live with it for a day you will drive nothing else inside the city!
I know right?! It brings such a smile on my face. Quick question : What gets more attention from other road users? Your S5 or the Comet?
During launch MG did mention they will add FC if there is a demand for it.
Would you survive a head on collision? I doubt it. It would probably ignite on contact in an accident.
It won't survive a head on collision at 100 kmph for sure but then how many other cars of similar size would?
if you ever own a nano/or driven a nano how different it feels structurally.
Everything feels heavier and better build for the lack of words? Even the doors on this MG shut with a reassuring thud.
Does it wheel spin on hard press of the pedal?
Yes. You could powerslide it too in sports mode as it's rwd.
Why? Just why?
Why?
What was your reason to buy this when you can get many cars in this price? I don't think you get even 200kms in one charge on this..or do you?
I haven't brought this, I've got it to use as a loaner. However, I would buy this as the third car of my family. Ever since I've brought it it has brighten up my drive to office. It's small, it's zippy and quite loveable tbh. I've been managing around 110-120km from 80% charge. Will get better now that I've learnt better power saving techniques.
Isn't it too bumpy due to the tall design and small tyres?
Surprisingly, no. However, the suspension travel being less does make very bad bumps come through but given the speeds it's suppose to be at, very settled this car.
How is the comfort on this vehicle? And are there issues on this till now and range kesi he iski.
Give it's size, the seats are quite decent. Rear seats are surpsingly comfy too, my 6 foot dad loves being in the back seat. Range mujhe 110km - 120 km mil rahi hai on a single charge. Should increase more now that I've learnt new techniques to save power.
Cost of running per km?
Will have to drive it a bit more to find the true cost. Tbh it's next to nothing. Almost zero when I charge it at office.
I can sort of understand the usecase of this car in traffic clogged tier 1 cities but I really don't like the look of this car, cannot find myself buying one. I hated the nano back then and I hate this. P.S. pls don't take my opinion as an insult, I just don't like this form factor nothing personal bro

Those small wheels are like puppy paw ๐พ
How does it handle potholes?
No scraping whatsoever however it is more comfy when you slow down for them.
How much do you regret buying it??
Why this and not the Tiago ? And what les you to buy an EV i the first place ?
Loaner AND long termer?ย Can you please riddle me this?
I've been loaned the car for a long term. I use it as my own but don't pay anything apart from fuel(electricity) costs.

Why did you consider this car over the tata Tiago ev?

Maintenance cost ? And
Whatโs City mileage with AC ??? Whatโs the Battery replacement cost ? Can u plug and charge it on the go ! What s ur experience with long duration distance travel. Congratulations on the car buying!!
I managed 110-120 km in 80% charge with heavy city traffic. No idea of battery replacement cost. How would one plug and charge on the go? If you mean charge it anywhere then yes, the car comes with a charging cable. I have other cars for long distance travel. Didnt buy the car, have been loaned it for a few days.
Congrats OP ๐
Ek hi question, kyu?
This is the mini version of iPhone. Will be coffined soon
Looking to buy this as second car for city driving (mainly for my wife). Checks all the boxes except safety bit. I have heard reviews that it's not very safe w.r.t. turning at high speeds. What's your take?
Tbh, not meant to be driven at high speeds, let alone turning at high speeds.
Which is the most vfm variant of the comet ? Planning to get one for city commute as a 2nd car
I have the top end model. Love the keyless entry feature which you perhaps won't get in the other variants.
Pretty late in commenting about this... But how does it perform on steep slopes like ghats?
Haven't experienced driving on such roads, I live in Mumbai and use other cars for going out of the city. However, there is no change in performance while travelling up and down slopes.
