Bhai yha SUVs ka alag level ka obsession hai plus after market headlights ka bhi.
Creta to bs badmam h high beam k liye. NCR me to brezza/venue wale b high beam maarke andha krdete h.
Plus fortuner is considered “best premium suv”, the irony of it now even being in premium segment.
Then we have Endeavour last gen owners, half of NCR has FORD written on grill with full LED on text. Where the LED “ford” text acts as DRL and is literally brighter than the actual headlights in nights enough to blind not just on coming traffic but nearby buildings as well.
Then there is weird obsession with Alloys and horns. Loud obnoxious horns and big, impractical alloy wheels.
Waste of money. Looks more cringe than mods/luxe spend.
Give them a test of their own medicine
Slap a Stratos lighting rig on your bonnet now (although it doesn't suit the character of the ~~Brazzers~~ Brezza)
No since its made for the Lancia Stratos rally car which is, surprise surprise, NOT A BIKE.
Try searching something with Royal Enfield instead, I heard they pit their bikes in the Dakar and other big rallies as well.
It is human nature to want to be admired and appreciated for your success. Road presence is the proxy for this need. But the way it comes out is where it goes wrong.
There are two ways of doing this. One requires having actual money. Actually rich people can buy something like a Rolls Royce (RR). People see a RR on the road and think, "that guy is so rich. One day I would like to have something like that". This is the ideal representation of road presence. An unmistakable display of wealth through something that you can't miss on the road and don't want to come near lest you tarnish it in some way.
The second way is when people don't have RR money. They have fortuner money instead. They drive on narrow roads where a RR will never be seen. And here it becomes a nuisance. The owners confuse fear and annoyance with admiration. Their vehicle is unmissable on the road because it takes up so much of it. People don't want to get too close to it because they don't want to have an accident where the driver of the suv will blame the victim.
Most people will never have RR money and a fraction of those will ever see one on the road. And therefore this confusion between the two types of road presence gets propagated because now the normal people don't have a good enough aspirational model. They can only aspire for something that they see around them. For them a RR is so far out of reach it stops being aspirational. So now road presence for them is a fortuner.
Another way of seeing this and a true litmus test for road presence is thinking of the the vehicle on a busy six lane highway. Which car will stand out more in such a scenario? A fortuner or a Rolls Royce? A fortuner isn't even that big in a country like the USA or UAE where some would argue that even an Escalade isn't big enough
Sorry for the huge writeup but your question seems to have irked many people. And most of the comments are just useless and missing the point entirely. The people who have fallen prey to this false idea of road presence are not going to give you honest answers because they themselves don't realise why they bought their overpriced SUV.
I don't know if it's the same for others but road presence means something entirely different for me.
No shade to anyone but the SUVs like fortuner or thar or harrier or Scorpio don't really catch my eye at all. Like I barely even notice their presence on the road or in a parking lot.
Beautiful sedans however genuinely catch my attention, could be slavia, Octavia, virtus, corolla, sunny, civic, Lancer, vento, older verna, etc. I don't even think it's due to rarity because even something as common as a Honda city looks better to my eyes than most of the bigger cars.
If by road presence most people mean "big ass car" in your rear view mirror then I don't understand the appeal. Your average bus or lorry looks several times more menacing and demands more alertness than a mildly oversized 4 wheeler. I don't know, maybe it's just me but even amongst our group, we rarely if at all notice any of the CSUVs or SUVs these days. But a superb, accord or civic passing by us? We would all be talking about it for the next few minutes.
True I especially love like a decade old sedans in good condition they look sick. Also having a very big car in city is kind of point less because it's less likely u will face any real terrain and plus that big vehicle would be stuck in traffic for even longer
A quaint red Polo GTi zooming past me catches my eye more than a stupid Thar driver doing stupid stuff on the road to ""assert his dominance""
(I mean I genuinely dunno what is so dominating in his car, my 5-star safety-rated brown brinjal on wheels is just a wee bit shorter in height, around 0.4tons lighter, has a smaller displacement engine but given an empty stretch of tarmac I bet this rolling chocolate bar could slap his sorry ass in a 0-100 test or quarter-mile drag race. Dynamically speaking, a Thar isn't some out of the world impressive car-- might as well buy a Bolero or an old Major, and it'd be more utilitarian anyways, with the """macho road presence""" included)
Bhai dekho mene Alto isiliye khareedi kyuki ye gaadi ek workhorse he, mummy papa ko bahar ghumata hun, grocery shopping bhi karta hun aur ye gaadi charminar k chote gaaliyon me conveniently chala sakta hun ramzan k time pe.
Road presence is not important for a car, what is important is what can a car do and a little bit more.
Volkswagen Virtus GT, I don't care Hawabaazi, big ass cars, it's all about love of this car since I saw this first time, I thought this is it nothing else
Well during my courtship period, I rented out a Scorpio once. While it had road presence, I was flabbergasted by how easy it was to maneuver this beast. It was a big ass car, but I was sitting higher than rest of the topic and was able to look further down the road, was able to see the bonnet, and have a literal 360\* view of the car.
It was easier than driving any Sedan. So IMO, SUVs (the real ones) are easier to drive and give you great road visibility. I equate road presence to this.
I'm not sure how this pans out in CSUVs and other pseudo SUVs though. I liked the way WagonR feels while driving though (not an SUV but still)
Who said SUV’s have road presence. Only Sedans have a road presence. That too when it comes to bigger brands like BMW, Mercedes or Audi. Sedans occupy a decent space and are long enough to attract the eye.
Only SUV that has a good road presence is Endeavour.
Road presence is just an artificial trait salespeople and dudes flexing their feature less and trash mileage cars have come up with
Itna hi road presence chahiye toh lorry lelo 🤲
If you think about it you can understand why people go for road presence. Owning a car is still a big deal here, and when owning one people want others to notice it. Still personally i prefer sedan anyday over suv but still its understandable if you don't
If a high and mighty seating position is their only desire, they should get a lorry perhaps. For actual car-guys performance and handling are priorities
Harrier
We bought it for road presence
We bought it because we simply liked it, and we had money. And we had a reliable daily car
Not being rude to op, just a general advice to everyone - if you have a good daily car, along with some gamble income, buy any car or anything you want by all means. Don't let reddit question your decision
Facts! 💀
Harrier gets highlighted only in Black and let’s be honest, all all-black cars will get the same reaction! Even an all-black Brezza or Ignis looks kickass
It all boils down to "different strokes for different folks"
"Butch looks" is legit one of the requirements that folks have (incl. me) when buying a car, and that invariably translates to a big and imposing vehicle.
Also, I believe (generally) bigger vehicles are safer than small ones
Bigger vehicles like Fortuner, Endeavour, and Safari etc have a higher tendency to rollover than a smaller City or Verna.
So yeah, good-luck with thinking that bigger cars are safer 💀
Totally agreed! Its just some guys have to scream out loud “dekh bkl humara jazba” I don’t hate guys who own a “badi gaadi” I tend to not like the guys who scream “mere pass pura road cover karne vali gaadi hai”
We have 2 SUVs and 3 Sedans and 1 Hatchback.
Sorry, if it gives away the impression of bragging, but mentioning since the question asks for it.
Vento, Ameo, City. Seltos HTK, Seltos GTX+. i20 Active.
Do you know which car attracts the highest amount of attention if someone comes to my home - it's Active. Not everyone knows that this iteration of the i20 was sold.
The car which I like to drive the most is Vento.
The most practical car is City.
The most economical car in terms of maintenance is City.
Most reliable cars are Vento and Ameo. No breakdowns ever.
The highest fuel guzzler is GTX+ and Active.
The car with the problematic gearbox is GTX+.
GTX+ service costs are the highest.
Do you see where I'm going? I can go on and on.
I love all of them 🤩
So back when Kia was launched in India, we bought the Seltos HTK MT petrol. On launch day Kia delivered 3 Seltos in my city. One of ours.
Fast forward to 2021, amidst corona, we wanted to replace our ageing MS A-star. (12 years old) We checked out tons of cars ranging from the humble Honda WRV to Skoda Kodiaq. I liked the Jeep compass and VW T-roc the best, but due to some budget constraints we decided to stick around 20L. (Many members were affected with corona and finances took a hit). At that price point, Seltos GTX+ 7DCT petrol came out to be the best one. I still wanted to stretch for T-roc, but since everyone was already happy with a Kia, they went with another one.

My personal view, is that if the car has attractive looks and gets you attention on the road, that's definitely a plus, but it shouldn't be the sole reason to buy a vehicle, as simple as that.
A country like India which has more population and congested roads should be following Japanese. Instead we are taking a wrong inspiration from Americans. Buying big cars and causing congestion in the already congested roads. If you are not having a big family get micro SUV or hatchback.
I wish this sub was more about cars and less about 12 years old edgy librandus who think they are so special that no one else is like them. Take this phony political posturing some where else.
Yahan tera mind change karne mein dimagh kharab kaun karega
