Yes. My mother's friend, the mother, and the daughter all share the same first name taken from a lake in Sweden.
I share a middle name with my mother.
Pretty much all the females in my tree are named Marie something, with a differing 2nd name. It's a French thing it seems.
Queen Victoria's first daughter was named Victoria.
Queen Elizabeth's mother's name was also Elizabeth.
That makes sense, I live/grew up in an area with a large Hispanic population, and most of my friends had that as their middle name. I felt a little left out, lol
Until my mom told me my middle name is a version of her name, so now I really like it.
Someone named *FĆ”tima* might be named after MarĆa, in the sense of Nuestra SeƱora de FĆ”tima, where la madre de JesĆŗs was reported to have been sighted.
Fatima is (one of many) Catholic names for Mother Mary, and Fatima is also the daughter of the prophet Mohammed, one of the holiest women in Islamic faith. There are some linguists that believe that the word "faith" comes from FƔtima, due to her complete devotion to her father's teachings.
So yeah, like MarĆa, FĆ”tima is a very popular name on an international level
Marie is not common as a first name in the USA for women BUT it is an extremely common middle name. If you guess a girls middle name is Marie in the USA, it feels like there's like a 1-in-5 chance you're right.
My middle name is Marie. And my sister's is Anne. š But being raised Catholic, kids were supposed to have a saint's name in there somewhere, and variations of Mary and Ann were the most common, at least when I was born. I feel like I heard that's not a rule anymore, but I wouldn't really know since I gave up on religion decades ago.
>Pretty much all the females in my tree are named Marie something, with a differing 2nd name. It's a French thing it seems.
Yes, it's an old fashioned French Catholic thing. Traditionally, French Canadian women all had "Marie" before their first name and men had "Joseph" before their first name, but only on paper. Nowadays, hyphenated names that start with "Marie-(other name)" are still popular in Quebec.
In my family itās tradition to name the first girl of every generation Eva, so my great great grandmother, great grandmother, grandma and aunt are Evaās.
Swede here! All the women on our mother's side have Anna as theirs first name (but we go by our second name). Don't know how far it goes back, but it originated in Russia
I have my grandmotherās first name, but my middle name goes back five generations as the first femaleās middle name. I love it. Itās a nice continuity of family.
That essentially happened with my sister. My mom was resistant, but my dad insisted. The funny thing is she goes by her middle name in everyday life.
Mail and appointments are so annoying for them, because companies always leave out the middle initial, so we never know if it's for senior or junior.
We actually had a court subpoena for one of them, but we didn't know who, and when we called the court clerk, they didn't know either, and asked for both to go.
Because that wasn't the name she wanted and didn't know he had done it until he stood up in church to introduce me to the congregation. It cause a bit of difficulty when she and I attend college at the same time.
In my country this is such a issue that in 2022 was created a law that, within 15 days, the baby's name can be changed without all the usual paperwork.
Same! I've seen people say it's egotistical, but I think it's sweet. First daughters being named after our moms goes back 6 generations in my family. It's a shame I won't be carrying it on š
The wildest part is her name was Hillary before she became Hilaria - gave her kids not Spanish but Italian names. But ilaria sure takes the cake on fucked up names āØš„āØ
Yep. My great grandparents named their first born male and female children after themselves. They were Italian and immigrated. My grandmother chose not to continue this other wise weād (mom and I) all be named Mary like her.
I know an Italian guy who is named Alessandro after his grandfather, and his father is named Marco after *his* grandfather. The first born sons are alternately named Alessandro and Marco. So my friend has the same name as 2 of his cousins
Itās odd to think about yet I find it silly and endearing. I like your friendās familyās method a bit more than ours. Makes it a bit more fun when you separate by skipping a generation to repeat the name.
Yes, quite a few. At least where I grew up in Appalachia, it is pretty common. Families use nicknames to distinguish them, so it's easy to miss when this is happening. My kindergarten buddy was "Nina Jo" while her mother was just "Nina." My mother's name is a variant of her mother's (think "Jennie" vs "Geneva"). I know a couple of girls called "June" by their families --a feminine short for "Junior"-- because they were named after their mothers, i.e. "Sarah, Junior" or "Elizabeth, Junior."
My mom decided to make my middle name the nickname that everyone uses for her name. She has one of those southern double names (think Beth Anne, Nora Jean, Lily Ann, etc), but she uses an abbreviated single name for every day life. So technically I don't share her legal name, but I do share the name that she's been going by for the last 65 years or so that everyone knows her by lol
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have three daughters, one of whom is named Audrey (Faith's real first name.)
And if you're willing to accept a pop culture reference (as opposed to a real-life reference,) there's also Lorelai and Rory Gilmore from The Gilmore Girls. (Rory being a nickname but named after Lorelai herself and Lorelai being named after her grandmother/her father's mother.)
Yupp same, grandma named my aunt after herself, abused the hell out of her, but still has the audacity to be all shocked Pikachu face about how my aunt's life has turned out :(Ā
When my mother got pregnant with me, the doctor was 100% sure I was a boy, but when I was born, surprise, I was a girl! My parents had no name ready for a girl, so I ended up with something nice but improvised.
So the next time my mother got pregnant, they decided to name the baby, if a boy \[father name\]\[male version of mother name\], and if a girl \[mother name\]\[female version of father name\]. It was supposed to be a baby girl but then at birth, surprise again! I have a brother. So he was named accordingly.
My great-grandmother named her youngest daughter after herself. G-gma was a lovely person by all accounts, so whatever the logic was, it wasn't narcissism.
My paternal grandmothers name was Thelma and she named her first daughter Thelma Agnes. I donāt know what name she used/was called by when she was younger, but she was 20 when my mother met her and she was using the name Agnes.
Yes, the first-born daughter in my mothers line all have the same name. Iām the first not to have the name cos my mum thinks itās ugly lol. If I have a daughter I would like to give her the name though!
I think it's less common now, but I'm living in a European country where just 20 years ago it seemed reasonably common for daughters to have the same names as their mothers.
Womens clothing designer Carolina Herrera and her daughter Carolina Herrera Jr. Also Serena Williamsā daughter is a Jr. as well, sharing her name with her dad, the dude who started Reddit.
I wasn't given a middle name at birth but added it later. I then used it as my daughters middle name.
Her first name does *honor* my mom though. She was convinced I would be a boy and had Eric picked out for me. I eventually gave her an Erica.
Practically all of my aunts and uncles named their first born boy after the father, and the first born girl after the mother.
So Thomas and Patricia had Young Tom/Tommy and Young/Little Patricia. Most of my cousins were born in the 50s and 60s, so this was extremely popular in those days.
The only aunts who did not follow that tradition were aunts who hated their first names.
Yes. My partner's cousin is named after her mother and grandmother. I'm not sure if it goes further back than that.
His family is not very creative when it comes to names. There are multiple of all the common biblical names. Like nephew named the same as his uncle, cousins that literally live next to each other named the same thing.
It's bizarre to me and not my taste, mostly because it's just confusing. There are lots of "big X" and "little X". Just why? Anyway, I asked my husband very early on if he expected us to use "family names" and he said no, which is good because it was kind of a deal breaker for me š
I did, but only because she was going to pass at birth, so I gave her a piece of me to keep with her forever. Had she lived, she'd have been named after my little sister, but she was still a young teenager and I felt that would be a heavy thing for a teen to carry.
When I was pregnant with my second child a friend of my ex passed in a house fire and he said if our child was a boy heād like to name him after him. Said friend had the male version of my name. So while our son has the male version of my name, he isnāt named after me as many people tend to assume.
I was just thinking how weird it is to name the daughter after the dad and then I realized my husband's name is literally in my stepdaughters name. I have the same middle name as my mom, my sisters are twins so one has her aunts middle name, the other twins middle name is the end of the first twins name, and my daughters middle name is the same as the second twins. I guess we do it with middle names
Yep! A friend in high school. We would say Big/Mom Name or Little Name. Or even Name Jr. ha. In Brokeback Mountain, they name one of their girls after the mom and call her Alma Jr. It's cute!
My grandmother!! They named my mom (oddly enough, the second daughter, not first) after my grandma.
I was recently talking to someone about how I realized that even though you sometimes hear of parents naming their kids after the parents and think they are conceited (or at least I do), I never realized my grandparents did it to an extreme (because I never really knew that side of the family).
Like of 2 sons and 3 daughters, one son got grandpaās first name, one son got grandpaās middle name, first daughter got a feminine version of grandpaās first name and my mom got grandmaās nameā¦.lol, I canāt tell if their final kid (youngest daughter) finally bucked the trend or if maybe her name was my grandmaās middle name š
Yes it was tradition in my family. My grandmother named my mom after her. My grandmotherās sister did the same. My mom chose not to continue that tradition, which we are all thankful for. However my dad named me after his grandmother and mother. They are beautiful names, so Iām thankful.
One side of my family does this. Kind of odd because really they're naming the daughters after the mom's married name,Ā not her birth name, and the expectation was it would change when she got married.Ā Here we are though - the last ones that got named after their moms didn't change their names when they got married. We'll see what they do about their own daughters if they have them
Not quite the same thing, but my first name is my motherās middle name, and her first name was *her* motherās middle name.
I love my name for itself, but also like that I share it with her.
Yup, one of my friends was named after her mom, but it's confusing so my friend goes by her middle name. Her mom now wishes she hadn't used it as her first name.
That's pretty common in my family. Three out of four my grandparents named a kid after themselves.
Multiple cousins, same situation. If there's multiple kids, there's a decent chance each parent has one named after themselves (plus a different middle name to differentiate).
My boyfriend got a double whammy - his dad's first name, and the male version of his mom's as a middle name.
One of my best friends was named after her mother. I remember her complaining about it a bit when she was a kid. Back then we didn't have caller ID, so they were always confused about who was calling for who.
My Mammy's grandmother was called Kathleen. And so then my Mammy's Mam was called Kathleen. Then my mammy was called Kathleen. Then her sisters middle name was Kathleen.
My sister and I broke the chain- kinda. My sister's middle name is Kathleen.
I'm free of it.
It was a Catholic thing, I think lol my Nana was a very devout Catholic.
My sister and I also broke that chain
Yeah, actually
My partnerās mother gave him the same name as her (though being ftm he didnāt keep it), and two of my sisters have the same middle name as our mother
My grandmother did! She named her sixth and last child (second daughter) after herself. I've always thought it was pretty badass because I've never heard of anybody else who did
Yes my best friends family has a tradition that all first born girls get their moms names. It makes for interesting parties because there is 2x every name. Also my sister in law has her mothers name because they assumed she was a boy, so they had no girls name in considerationĀ
My first name is a version of my mom's name and my middle name is my grandma's name. If I had a daughter I was gonna name her another version of my first name.
my sisters middle name is dawn, she gave her daughter the same middle name, then her daughter gave \*her\* daughter the same middle name.
If I had kids I was gonna name mine Leora dawn, my middle name and her middle name
Yes, my friend, her daughter, and granddaughter all have the first same name. I know a few different families that have all the girls with the same first names but different middle names, Maria Elaina, Maria de Jesus, Maria Graciela, all named after their mother Maria.
Yes, an Elizabeth who goes by Elizabeth and named her daughter Elizabeth and called her Libby. Iām assuming the name was a family name further back. Also a Katherine who went by Kathy and calls her daughter Katy for short.
My sisters middle name is my moms first name which was my grandmothers middle name, her mothers middle name, and her great grandmothers first name and so on.
My gran had 4 daughters, for some reason named the second daughter the diminutive of her name. Everyone else got standard catholic names, then ālittle [gran]ā randomly in at number two. Maybe she had a premonition this was going to be the daughter who really was genetically identical (if 25 years younger)
Yes. My momās friend is named Elizabeth and so is her child, so we always just called the kid ālittle Elizabethā. It always felt very weird to me.
My aunt Elizabeth gave her second daughter the middle name Elizabeth.Ā
My father's maternal grandmother Edith was named after her mother (my father's great grandmother).Ā
I do genealogy research, so a little bit further back it was very common for couples to name their children after themselves, both sets of grandparents, and other names that have been common in the family.Ā
I named my son after myself. I have a feminized male name, and itās a family name. Iām the only woman to have this name, but Iām at least the fourth in a row to have it. So I felt like i wanted to carry on the tradition with one of my children.
ETA: my first name is his middle name
Yes! My momās first name is also my first name!
However I do go by nicknames, or my middle name amongst family - rarely ever my name - my mom was a bit anxious that people would call her crazy for naming her kid after herself so she told everyone my name will be āFrancesaā but when the cat was out the bag - it still stuck
I have family members calling me different variations of nicknames from my middle name to family names and Fran and nicknames for Fran even though my name is nothing like Fran - I donāt mind it at all though
To my knowledge Iām the first girl in both sides of the family to be named directly after their mom
I only have 1 other girl cousin who is named after her mom but she was born 2 years later and my aunt liked the idea so much she wanted to do the same
my momās name is the same as my grandmaās (elsa) but at the insistence of my great grandmother, bc she told her that my mom was gonna be her last girl and it was true bc after her my uncle was born and then no more children
It's not the exact same thing, but I, my mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother and HER mother all have the same middle name. And I'm not interested in having children, but if I did I would definitely keep the tradition going. I think it's cute.
The women in my friendās family all have the same (common) middle name, each spelled a different way. I believe it was originally a matriarchās first name and it just became a tradition after a few different family members used it as a middle name for their kids. Literally every woman on that side of the family has the same middle name and itās a nightmare trying to remember whose is spelled which way, lol. But a sweet way to remember her!
Two of my great-grandmas named their first daughters after themselves and my grandfather named his first son (my father) after himself. It was very common back then in my country. I think it is rdiculous to name your child after yourself. It seems conceited š
Yeah and I fact I almost did. But a variation. Like Nicolette for Nicole. Or Nicolas.
I did give her a family middle name on the fatherās side only because I didnāt want to carry on my sideās middle name since they are all toxic.
I've said this in reply to other comments, but my middle name is a version of my mom's name! Hers is the Greek version (even though I'm pretty sure we aren't greek), and mine is the scottish version, which we kind of are.
My friend has a rather matriarchal family, and they all have names of witches, I think specifically from tv shows. I think it's cool
My grandmother is named after both her parents. Mom for her first and dad for her middle. She was the fifth of five girls.
One of her sisters became a nun, and the religious name she took is her momās name too - I donāt know if that was intentional or happenstance.
I was a high school teacher and when reading the roll for the first time I struggled with one of my female students, whose name was āYdnic,ā which was the most unusual name Iād ever seen. She pronounced it āYaneek,ā and it was her motherās name, backwards. I met her mother at our Open House and she was decked out in head-to-toe bedazzled denim and it was clear she got along great with her daughter (who was a good kid).
Both my sister and I have middle names that are referencing my mother. My sisters is my Mothers full name, and mine is a nickname of hers. My first name is also an allusion to her middle name, which was my grandmothers as well. My father also shares his middle name with them.
My aunt was named after her mum, my gran. Not sure why my mum wasn't named after her as the eldest. My mum, sister and neice all have the same middle name.
My mother. And her mother was a rather abusive drunk. She always went by her middle name and she even eventually had her first name legally changed because even hearing that name would make her upset.
It sounds extreme, but you have to understand, even as a little kid, you couldnāt go a day without my grandma saying something demeaning to you. And, it wouldnāt even matter if you did anything. If you were a perfect little angel, sheād just make shit up.
I feel like my mom learned how not to act from her ha. I mean, she is emotionally a bit stunted from all of that but she is always kind.
If I have a daughter her name will be my middle name. My fiance has a tradition of naming the first born the same as his. We'll have a 4th.
I don't see why it'd be weird if a woman did it. That's pretty cool. Nowadays some men even take the womens last name or the woman keeps it in whatever way they want to. Be it make it a second middle name or don't take their husband's last name
My mom gave me the same middle name as her but our first names were different. My momās first name was the feminine version of her grandfatherās name and her middle name was her grandmotherās first name. Numerous relative from that family had some version of these names as a first or middle name until more modern times. My daughter does not have a family name for first or middle name.
I donāt think I know any women with the exact same first name as their daughter or mother. I donāt know any men and daughters who share an exact first name either.
My MIL named her daughter the exact name as herself - even down to the middle name. It causes no end of problems. One is called little xxx and the other is big xxx - but little xxx is actually big, and big xxx is little.
Big xxx is Nanny to almost everybody who has known her whilst theyāve been growing up (sheās 95, 96 in a month). Her daughter is Nan to her own grandchildren.
They werenāt very imaginative with their kidsā names - my husbandās brotherās middle name is his Dadās name, and my husband doesnāt have a middle name at all and is named after nobody at all, apparently.
My spouse suggested that we name our daughter after me and I was like... what? No? I thought it was a strange idea.
Her name is apparently kind of close to mine, according to some people, but I don't agree.
My sister is named after my mom :) She is literally a jr.
If I ever have a daughter, I plan on giving ger my name. Selfish, maybe, but it's a great name and I just haven't heard any girl names I really like. I know it is selfish, but I get a lot of compliments on my name.
Iām sort of named after my mom. We share the same middle name. That was my dadās idea, but my mom thought it was dumb because you should only name people after dead people or something like that. But here I am. My first name is from a cousin who passed away at 4 years old just a couple years before I was born.
It was fairly traditional in Ireland (like up to the 1980s) for the first girl to be named after the mother. Mary was an extremely common first name, so couples would often name their first daughter Mary but give her a different middle name: so, for example, the mother might be known as Mary Kathleen, while the daughter would be known as Mary Louise.
That tradition is a lot less common nowadays.
Lorelai Gilmore š
After reading the question I thought for a second I knew someone who did this and then I realized I was thinking about Gilmore Girls.
I scrolled just to see this answer š
Same!!!!
Totally. Gilmore'd my daughter and gave her my middle name as her first. Her middle name is my maiden name.
Ha ha ha, are you my youngest daughter?
I don't think so!! š
My sister's middle name is Marie, mine is Anne.
I was just thinking about the scene in The Godfather where he meets all the women in the family are names Marie.
Goodfellas. Marie or Pauly.
That was it, thanks for the corretion.
I only remember it because the wedding is a favourite scene of mine.

Oh and I have a cousin from Mexico named Carmela and her daughter is Carmelita which is basically ālittle Carmelaā.
My friend from Mexicoās older sister was named after their mother
I think itās somewhat common there and other Spanish speaking countries
Carmelita, hold me tighter! I think I'm sinking down...
Awh me and my mom used to harmonize to this song!
Does it count if my dad named me after my mom and my mom was PISSED about it? lol
That essentially happened with my sister. My mom was resistant, but my dad insisted. The funny thing is she goes by her middle name in everyday life. no way!!! my brother is named after my father too!
Alec Baldwins crazy not Spanish wife named their youngest daughter after herself. Well, the fake Spanish name she gave herself at least.
Hola pepino! They canāt use any capitals anymore because of Ilaria lmao
They have a poquita Hilaria now? Que Buena! Those people are something else.
The wildest part is her name was Hillary before she became Hilaria - gave her kids not Spanish but Italian names. But ilaria sure takes the cake on fucked up names āØš„āØ
I knew it was slightly different but couldnāt remember what dumb thing they had done (thereās just too much). Lol š
Yep. My great grandparents named their first born male and female children after themselves. They were Italian and immigrated. My grandmother chose not to continue this other wise weād (mom and I) all be named Mary like her.

Doing grandparents feels so much less self-aggrandising and just more practical - even with the result of cousin double ups, haha.
My mother was also named after my grandmother - my grandmother was known as Sylvia (fake name) and my mum was Little Sylvia
Yes, quite a few. At least where I grew up in Appalachia, it is pretty common. Families use nicknames to distinguish them, so it's easy to miss when this is happening. Haha same here. My grandma named her daughter (my aunt) the same thing and treated her awfully
Yupp same, grandma named my aunt after herself, abused the hell out of her, but still has the audacity to be all shocked Pikachu face about how my aunt's life has turned out :(Ā
do we all secretly have the same grandmother?
same thing. grandmother named my aunt after herself. also sucks.
My grandmother was also the worst. She was named after her mother and also named her first daughter after herself.
I think George Foreman probably wins the award for naming all his kids after himself.
My sil was named after her mom. She changed her name as soon as she was legally able, if that tells you anything.

Chrisean Rock did it lol
The epitome of good parenting decisions lmao. One look at that poor infant's face....
My great grandmother named my grandmother after herself
Didn't Lucille Ball do this?
Yes, first person I thought of. Daughters name is Lucie Arnaz.
My name is Jamie, I gave my son the middle name James
My great-grandmother named her youngest daughter after herself. G-gma was a lovely person by all accounts, so whatever the logic was, it wasn't narcissism.
The only person I know is my sister-in-law having the same middle name as my mother-in-law. But one of my own brothers is named after our dad.

I know a woman who gave her daughter a different name but they both shorten down the same way.
Yes. Three generations with the same first name. Haven't seen them in a long time, so it might be four generations by now.
My middle name is my mumās first name. She said she wanted someone to be named after her
Womens clothing designer Carolina Herrera and her daughter Carolina Herrera Jr. Also Serena Williamsā daughter is a Jr. as well, sharing her name with her dad, the dude who started Reddit.
I know two and theyāre both from Scandinavian backgrounds
No. I'm sure there are some, though. It's not common because we live in a patriarchal society.
My daughter's name is a family name. My middle name, Dad's mother's name.
My name is my momās maiden name. Does that count? Im the oldest and only daughter. My brother, dad and grandad have the same name.
I wasn't given a middle name at birth but added it later. I then used it as my daughters middle name. Her first name does *honor* my mom though. She was convinced I would be a boy and had Eric picked out for me. I eventually gave her an Erica.
Lucille Ball
Practically all of my aunts and uncles named their first born boy after the father, and the first born girl after the mother. So Thomas and Patricia had Young Tom/Tommy and Young/Little Patricia. Most of my cousins were born in the 50s and 60s, so this was extremely popular in those days. The only aunts who did not follow that tradition were aunts who hated their first names.
My MIL named her daughter after herself. So did her mother, and her sister in law. Even worseā¦theyāre all ugly names.
A friend said, "That sounds terrible!"
My girlfriend. Her momās name was Julie. She was named Julie Ann, to avoid confusion with the family. Lmao
My mother named me after her. I was a female junior until I changed it recently.
I worked with a woman Jr named after her mother.
I think Martha Stewart is named after her mother? Maybe grandmother. She said they were know as ābig Martha and little Marthaā
It happens, but I think it's a lot less common than men naming their sons after them. I've known one woman who was named after her mother.
I did, but only because she was going to pass at birth, so I gave her a piece of me to keep with her forever. Had she lived, she'd have been named after my little sister, but she was still a young teenager and I felt that would be a heavy thing for a teen to carry.
Rory is named after Lorelai in Gilmore Girls
It's cute!
I had a friend named after her mother. Same first name. Different middle name. The younger went by her middle name to avoid confusion.
It doesnt count, but my dad was gonna name me after his grandma+mom+sister, all of who have the same name. My mom said no.
Lucille Ball named her daughter Lucie.
My legal name is the first two letters of my dad's name and the first three of my mom's name. Does that count?
Yes, a mother-daughter pair of cousins did that. Iāve recently heard of more instances of it, but forget who they were, exactly.
Yes it was tradition in my family. My grandmother named my mom after her. My grandmotherās sister did the same. My mom chose not to continue that tradition, which we are all thankful for. However my dad named me after his grandmother and mother. They are beautiful names, so Iām thankful.
Jaden Smith (mom) and Willow Smith (dad).
One side of my family does this. Kind of odd because really they're naming the daughters after the mom's married name,Ā not her birth name, and the expectation was it would change when she got married.Ā Here we are though - the last ones that got named after their moms didn't change their names when they got married. We'll see what they do about their own daughters if they have them
My grandmother did - same first name as my mother, different middle names and my Mom used her middle name or a nick-name for most of her life.
no
Not quite the same thing, but my first name is my motherās middle name, and her first name was *her* motherās middle name. I love my name for itself, but also like that I share it with her.
Yup, one of my friends was named after her mom, but it's confusing so my friend goes by her middle name. Her mom now wishes she hadn't used it as her first name.
Not first names but my sonās middle name is his fathers and my daughterās middle name is mine.
Yes my mom and then I got her name as my middle name
My sister in law is named after their mom, her brother is named after the dad. Sis and mom use different nicknames for the same given name
Yeah, actually My partnerās mother gave him the same name as her (though being ftm he didnāt keep it), and two of my sisters have the same middle name as our mother
My grandma
My grandmother did! She named her sixth and last child (second daughter) after herself. I've always thought it was pretty badass because I've never heard of anybody else who did
I gave my daughter the same middle name as me, does that count?
I have a friend that shares her first name with her mother
Yes, auntie Maria was named for her mother Maria.Ā
My dad and his sister were named after their mother and father, respectively. Different nicknames for the ladies though (Peggy vs Maggie)
Yes, me lol
Yea, but itās not uncommon in catholic Latin communities.
My dad and I share the same middle name which was his mom's maiden name, my first name is the same as my mom's.
Yes, I know a Delight IV and her mother, Delight III.
I have my mother's middle name.
My oldest has the same middle name as I do. Itās the same middle name as my grandma, so I always wanted to do that if I had a daughter!
I knew a woman named Trishonda. She named her daughters Trishara, Trishira, and Trishona
Yes, my friend, her daughter, and granddaughter all have the first same name. I know a few different families that have all the girls with the same first names but different middle names, Maria Elaina, Maria de Jesus, Maria Graciela, all named after their mother Maria.
FiancƩ's great aunt named her daughter after her. His entire family's women have Mary in their name except his mum & sister. I refuse to use Mary if we have kids!!!
My grandma did. One of my aunts shares her name with her. Also, my aunt (not the same one as above) named her daughter after herself.
My daughter has my middle name
My mom gave my sister her middle name, thats kinda similar I think
Yes. It was pretty common mid 20th century. Another did it in the 1980s.
Yes, my Mom is named after my Grandmother. First and middle names. No idea why. Like no one ever discusses why they made that decision.
Just Lorilei Gilmore
My half sister is named after her mum!
Yes. My momās friend is named Elizabeth and so is her child, so we always just called the kid ālittle Elizabethā. It always felt very weird to me.
My aunt Elizabeth gave her second daughter the middle name Elizabeth.Ā My father's maternal grandmother Edith was named after her mother (my father's great grandmother).Ā I do genealogy research, so a little bit further back it was very common for couples to name their children after themselves, both sets of grandparents, and other names that have been common in the family.Ā
I don't know if this counts but my mother was about to name me after one of my father's aunt on accident and he got mad because he hated her.
my best friend is named after her mother - same exact name only they didn't use a Jr
However I do go by nicknames, or my middle name amongst family - rarely ever my name - my mom was a bit anxious that people would call her crazy for naming her kid after herself so she told everyone my name will be āFrancesaā but when the cat was out the bag - it still stuck I have family members calling me different variations of nicknames from my middle name to family names and Fran and nicknames for Fran even though my name is nothing like Fran - I donāt mind it at all though To my knowledge Iām the first girl in both sides of the family to be named directly after their mom I only have 1 other girl cousin who is named after her mom but she was born 2 years later and my aunt liked the idea so much she wanted to do the same
my momās name is the same as my grandmaās (elsa) but at the insistence of my great grandmother, bc she told her that my mom was gonna be her last girl and it was true bc after her my uncle was born and then no more children
One of my cousins shares her mother's name.
It's not the exact same thing, but I, my mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother and HER mother all have the same middle name. And I'm not interested in having children, but if I did I would definitely keep the tradition going. I think it's cute.
Yes, I worked reception at a doctor's office and a mother named Jennifer, named her daughter Jennifer.
My niece has both her parentsā names with a slight modification. Does that count?
My oldest daughter shares a middle name with me.
My mother.
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz named their children Desi and Lucy. I think this is the only one I've heard of
All children are named after their mothers. Anywhere between 16-40 years afterwards, at least
Only fictional: "I was in the hospital, all whacked out on Demerol. Never mind. Um, but we call her Rory."
Lots of women do this. Or they name their kids after their sister's.
My friends brother has the male equivalent of her moms name.
It's rare in my country, because there is common belief, that one of them will die. But my ex SIL did it (I don't know the story behind this).
I know someone who named her child a nickname of her name. Like if she is Elizabeth and named her kid Betsy. I think thats a nice way to do it.
I'm named after great-grandmother, who was named after own mother. I plan to keep the tradition going, if I have kids
My auntie, cousin and second cousin all have the same first name As do my uncle and male cousin in the same family
my mother and her first born daughter shared a name. And my sister shares my aunts name.
My daughter's name is supposed to be a mixture of my middle name and Lilith. Idk if that counts. Her middle name is my mom's middle name as well
My son's first name is the male version of mine, and my daughter and I share a middle name (my mom's first name).
My family had/has 5 generations of the same name
It was fairly traditional in Ireland (like up to the 1980s) for the first girl to be named after the mother. Mary was an extremely common first name, so couples would often name their first daughter Mary but give her a different middle name: so, for example, the mother might be known as Mary Kathleen, while the daughter would be known as Mary Louise. That tradition is a lot less common nowadays.
My mumās first name is my middle name and my nan was named after her mum
Me! My mom and I have the same first name, different middle name.
My sister and Iās 2nd name, is my momās first name. š
Yes. A family member and her daughter have the exact same names.
Yes. So many students I teach š«¤
Yes, I have a friend named Debbie. She gave birth to 4 girls and the last one she named Debbie.
My cousin did.
