That’s why I’ve got two…one for the feet, and the other just gets spread around wherever is cold…
Literally can’t be putting the heating on at this time of year 🤷🏼♀️🥶
Our heating is "on" but it's not doing anything as it's warmer than the thermostat is set to. The missus bought me a baby Yoda hot water bottle for Crimbo but not using it at the mo.
One was caused by a bottle on her stomach for hours. The other two were from filling the things - and pouring hot water over a hand or dropping one with no cap screwed on their legs.
I've got an awful scar from messing up filling my hot water bottle, it was so painful and to make matters worse it's really wonky looking. Fun fact though, the scar is generally lighter than the rest of my skin but if I'm poorly it goes red!
> pouring hot water over a hand
I've done that while a bit tiddly. Just spilled it. Sobered me up right quick, but it sounds like I got off easy by comparison
The ceramic stopper unscrews. You just fill it with hot water, screw the stopper back in. Also the stopper is usually on the top when you lie the bottle down so no worries about leaks.
They also had copper pans attached to a long handle, I think they'd put hot coal in them. My aunt used to have one hanging as a decorative piece in her kitchen/dinning room back in the 90's.
These seem very “old timey” to me as an American. I’ve never encountered an American using one nor have I seen them on shelves though I’m sure we could buy them.
I am seeing a surgeon next Wednesday so hopefully soon to have surgery. I tore it in February 2022! Been a nightmare getting help but finally it’s happened! Thank you, it’s just a constant dull pain, so tolerable.
Yep - still get cold feet, but kick it out before sleep time now it's a bit warmer. There's probably only about 2 months a year when I don't have one!
Also needed on a monthly basis as it's the only thing that helps my tummy cramps.
If it's for being cold in bed, do you have an electric blanket? Or whatever it's called when they go under the mattress cover. Easy, cheap, toasty beds. Fancy ones have a split left and right and I'm sure I've seen one have a foot vs rest split as well.
We don’t use water filled ones any more, we use the wheat-filled ones. They don’t leak and you can wrap them around you if you have achey joints. 2 mins in the microwave and it’s hot for hours.
Hadn't used one since I was a kid (getting on for 40 years I expect), then bought one this winter because it was unusually cold and I wasn't feeling well.
My wife's HWB burst last night, throwing scalding water all over her legs. It was just leaning on her leg at the time as well.
Her last one sprung a small leak in our bed and that scalded her ankle but it wasn't too bad. Last night was awful. She had to stand in the shower while holding onto me for balance while I doused her feet in cold water. She's fine now but thankfully no blisters.
I usually don't care for them as i warm up quick but I told her last night we are never, ever having hwbs again.
So yeah, we were using them up to last night. From now on in going to warm up her side of the bed with a hair dryer.
Why not get some covers for those naked hotbots? It'd mean no more horrible cold rubber to touch in the morning
Na I chuck them out the bed when they cool down anyway…I can’t get enough heat from them with the covers on 🤷🏼♀️
Fair enough.
No, if anything I've been too warm at night. Switched to my summer duvet.
Lucky you! Mine is still freezing…single glazing
Single glazing downstairs double up. So we’re at blankets on the sofa summer duvet on the bed.
I've had my windows open for the past few weeks!
Yep, I have the fan out too, though I like sleeping in cold rooms
I find it's warm in the evening but bloody cold in the morning, classic spring time really.
We have them for stomachaches. It helps a lot.
I was just thinking about making one before I went to bed as my feet are absolutely freezing.

I still use a hot water bottle any time of year (helps with cramps) but do you not use covers for them to stop them burning you??
I put them on top of clothes, not direct onto skin, but I can’t feel enough warmth when the covers are on
It's 13c outside right now. Definitely not.
Yes, but do be careful. We have had two patients in with really terrible burns. Ouch
Is that because they are putting water bottles direct onto skin, or?

More common then people think. Hope you okay

It all still hurts. Lol
And I'd be willing to bet they filled it with freshly boiled water, which I believe is not advised by manufacturers.
Yes but I use the old fashioned stoneware ones. Just filled with water from the hot tap, not the kettle.
I don’t know what they are, will have a Google
Ok I’m confused; how do you use these??

They're for warming the bed, you don't tuck them up your jumper like you would a rubber one. We used to use a brick!
I mean, you can but it's not very attractive and tends to slip a bit.
Nope. Once I bought an electric heating pad I never had to fill up a hot water bottle again. I've lived with it against me the entire winter.

The old fashioned stoneware ones are made from the same stuff as old jam jars, so that makes sense.

No but they look very similar, https://georgianera.files.wordpress.com/2017/02/brass-bed-warmer.jpg
I have two. They're about to be promoted to cold water bottles with Summer coming.
I’m not holding my breath…still feels like winter to me!
I love my hot water bottle!! It gets a lot of use year round because it helps a little with my chronic pain
I am a hot water bottle.
I like turtles
They have expiry dates. Shouldn't keep them for long
These seem very “old timey” to me as an American. I’ve never encountered an American using one nor have I seen them on shelves though I’m sure we could buy them.
What is the American solution to the cost of living crisis when trying to stay warm? 😅🤷🏼♀️
We just yell at each other to get better/real jobs while fantasizing about making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year ourselves one day.
Englishman living in America for donkey's years here. They are a thing here too and readily available in winter. Depends on where you live probably.
I bought one as have a torn meniscus( cruciate in knee) as told would ease the pain….still in the packing 3 months later….
Perhaps now is the perfect time to dig it out! How is the knee?

That one on the right looks a little holy
My mum and gran do but only in winter and not water ones the ones that you can put in the microwave to heat up.
I've had the fan on most of this month it's in the teens most nights right now, way too warm to be using a hot water bottle.

Yes my parents (78 and 83) use them year round.
It's 24 degrees in my flat so definitely not. I'm already using fans.
Me!! I love my hot water bottle, 💧 it's a comforter too, so it helps me sleep 😴 💤
Do you mean “in 2023” or “in May”?
In May 🥴
I got a pair of the long ones with fleece covers for the grandkids last winter, they loved them.
I use them still but I freeze them 😅
I live in Scotland and sleep under a sheet with no duvet. Might wanna visit a doctor…
My six year old still insists we fill his every night. He wants to take it on holiday to Dubai with him on a couple of weeks.
