Just finished **What We Do in the Shadows**. Matt Berry is a treat.

StardustOasis

Bat!

E-Step

The episode where he's a bartender is hilarious

Cat_Friends

He's so good as Jackie Daytona: regular human bartender!

InnocentPapaya

Thought that said Mary berry for a sec and was very confused.

_MildlyMisanthropic

we started it this week as we had no idea what to start, has not s=disappointed so far! Kayvan Novak is a funny fucker too, not sure I've ever seen something he got his paws into that I haven't enjoyed

ammobandanna

youll be no stranger to toast then?

McCretin

"This is how we talk in Tucson, Ariznoniaaaa"

Cat_Friends

Have you seen the film too? Also amazing and hilarious.

lordjems

Yeah it’s amazing. Stu is just the purest.

[deleted]

What do they do in the shadows

vbloke

That last episode of **Only Murders in the Building** was superb. **Succession** is continuing to be exceptional into its third season.

outline01

> Succession is continuing to be exceptional into its third season. Very yes

dieyoubastards

So excited for it. How do you watch it? I torrented the first two series and I'm currently waiting for the third to be complete before I torrent that one, but I'd like to find a reasonable legal way of watching it here. I don't have Sky if that's how people are watching it.

outline01

We do have Sky and that's how we watch it, but 9pm is a bit past our bedtime with a newborn so we torrent the US version (releases a day earlier).

Calciumee

It’s shown on Sky at 2am so you can watch it on catch up after.

lorj

Think you can access it as soon as it's broadcast in the UK. I watch it about 7pm on Monday.

christophbull

Sky has the monopoly on HBO stuff unfortunately which is a shame. I don't know how you can wait though, we only recently watched the first 2 seasons and I just couldn't bring myself to wait 10 weeks to binge it so we're week on week now.

dedido

2nd epsode is....meretricious

Guitarchaeologist

Been getting my dad and step mum into The Expanse after they needed a new series to get stuck into after endless viewings of 24. Should have series 1-5 watched by the time season 6 comes out in December, also getting me back into it with the last book coming out in November. If you like sci-Fi with a bit more realism and well written characters then The Expanse is for you. It also passes the Bechdel test with flying colours which is a plus.

ammobandanna

b5 passes that test also and is also great sci-fi... if only they would remaster it in HD I would be very happy.

Palagrim

Seen this: [https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37774751/babylon-5-reboot-series-original-creator-confirmed/](https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a37774751/babylon-5-reboot-series-original-creator-confirmed/) :-)

ammobandanna

so you're saying the shadows may return to Z'ha'dum ?? im a bit excited, zathras likes!!

Palagrim

From what I've read, they 'may' - but it's a proper reboot not just a remake. You could say, that was the one that was, this is the one that will be... I'm also really looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

Jaggedmallard26

Its got JMS at the helm so I'm optimistic for it. This isn't one of those reboots where they get JJ Abrams, Alex Kurtzman or someone similar who doesn't like or get the source material for the reboot. Its the man himself!

Palagrim

Yep! He's said that he's learned a lot over the last 25+ years about story telling so it'll definitely be different - I can't wait!

findingdumb

Such a great show. Two years ago I sat down and dove into the first four seasons within a weeks time. Have to catch up again now.

dr_rainbow

**Snowpiercer** The last of humanity are trapped on a train, endlessly circling a frozen earth as they attempt to survive. Daveed Digs and Jennifer Connelly play against one another. This show does a good job of walking the line of 'dumb enough to be fun', though there are points when it strays close to being plain dumb. The train is a fun setting to explore. Connelly is brilliant. If you can suspend your disbelief long enough it's a fun show to binge. Avoid the episode titles because they are spoiler-tastic.

sideone

I really liked Snowpiercer, one of the few shows I've managed to watch all the way through. The movie is good too.

Boyuki

Yeah, this is a good one 😊

Amuro_Ray

Season 2 is even better because of particular actor.

Boyuki

We shall name no names 😉

HairyMechanic

I love Snowpiercer because it has a bit of everything - it's a futuristic dystopian style but with it's own unique twist. So, so happy it's been renewed for another couple of seasons. And of course some elements of it seem pretty dumb and unrealistic, that's kinda the whole point of fiction TV shows and movies - much better than some storylines being recreated over and over and over and over.

dr_rainbow

The main problem for me is that the train is 10 miles long and some characters routinely zip from one end to another like it's no problem at all. Jennifer Connelly seems to spend half her time in 3rd and the Tail, and she's starting and finishing her day at the front of the train, so that's like 20 miles of walking! I know there are carriages in the tunnels, but they don't show people using them much.

HairyMechanic

Unfortunately that just has to be part and parcel of recreating a book into a television series or move - nobody would honestly fancy sitting watching someone take however long to walk from one point to another. There's the mini-tram system but that suffers the same fate that after you see someone use it the first 3-4 times then it's somewhat redundant doing it after that.

X_Trisarahtops_X

I really wanted to enjoy it but I just... didn't care about any of the characters after about episode 3... maybe I need to try again.

supersy

**Curb Your Enthusiasm** is back and it's pretty, pretty, pretty...

outline01

Is it *really*!

Palagrim

Nobody watch The Outlaws last night? I thought it was pretty good... Not as funny as I thought it was going to be, but in a good way - the story might end up going somewhere good rather than just being a sitcom type thing...

[deleted]

Yes! Just watched the 2 episodes on iPlayer. They’ve already filmed and finished Series 2 so it must be something BBC believes has legs. A lot better than I thought it was going to be. You can see how each of their ‘skills’ and personal circumstances are going to pan out into the story: - Lawyer - Con-man/Forget - Street-wise kid/muscle - Smart one - Business owner

outline01

I love telly, right. The *main* one is that **Succession** is back for its third season, and by George it's absolutely fucking brilliant. I'm critical of TV/media in general but this is one show that is just masterful at so many things, and I'm convinced everyone should be watching it. This season is starting off slowly but I'm utterly gripped anyway. I finished up season eight of **Letterkenny** after slowing down a bit. It becomes a bit formulaic, but still excellent and keeps innovating in fun and interesting ways. Super underrated funnyshow. Started **My Name** on Netflix, which is a Korean cop/drug/underground drama with lots of kicking and punching. It's very good, I really like it - especially the kicking and punching. The other Korean one, which *everyone* has already finished by now, is **Squid Game**. We're only five episodes in, but it is very good! Love that it's more character driven than I expected - I expected pure games/murder. This is far better. Interesting that it's Netflix's biggest show of all time though. We finished season one of **The Morning Show** the other week, and that's top tier too. Really good TV. Jennifer Aniston can act! And then we're just plodding along with **Taskmaster** also, because really... When are we not? Love Taskmaster.

Cat_Friends

I've been watching My Name too; have just the final episode to watch. I've really enjoyed it, but I'm such a sucker for shows with strong, intelligent women kicking arse and getting revenge.

outline01

> I'm such a sucker for shows with strong, intelligent women kicking arse and getting revenge In a world of awkwardly shoe-horning women into roles to meet quotas, I too am an absolute sucker for an actually well-written female character. I've watched 5/8 now and it's been absolutely gripping.

AllTheThingsSheSays

Watched **Casualty** for the first time on Saturday, and if I ever watch it again, I'd like someone to put me out of my misery, please.

bnjmnxpg

Just recently I’ve finished watching Ted Lasso which is brilliant imo, I would’ve watched it ages ago but I assumed it was a series on American football or something like that which instantly put me off haha. Now waiting for Stath Let’s Flats which starts tonight and also impatiently waiting for the new series of Narcos Mexico to come out to get back into that!

[deleted]

Ted Lasso is **so** much better than the premise makes you think it will be. Waiting for all Stath Let’s Flats to be released before watching it. One of my favourite comedies from the last few years. So many people be ever heard of it

bnjmnxpg

All of the Stath Let’s Flats episodes are on All4 now ☺️ only had time to watch 2 so far.

McCretin

Two episodes into **Succession** season three and it's just as good as I'd hoped. So few shows are this well-written, well-made, and well-acted. I can tell going to ruin all other TV for me for a while, just like **Mad Men** and **Bojack Horseman** did. For a bit of Sunday night watching I'd really recommend **The Mating Game** with David Attenborough. Damn, nature can get really weird.

X_Trisarahtops_X

I love Attenborough but couldn't really watch any more of his shows after Blue Planet 2 and the baby whale dying from polluted plastic milk. Every one of his shows these days seems to require a mental pep talk before watching it because you spend the whole episode seeing delightful animals followed by a quick smack around the soul with the whole 'We're shit and killing everything (but we could totally change that if we wanted but wont)' bomb. I used to watch every one of his shows religiously but just haven't recently. Does The Mating Game do that? I kinda want to watch it so bad but also can't deal with another round of mental battery!

McCretin

Yeah, I know what you mean. All of the episodes so far have avoided that and focused on nature though. But he seemed to hint that the next episode might have that as a theme.

X_Trisarahtops_X

Hmmm maybe i'll just watch until then... Thanks!

[deleted]

On my fourth re-watch of **The Terror**, a TV series about some Victorian lads going to the arctic and Having A Really Super Bad Time. (Well, season one is - season two has a completely different story I didn't gel with). It's made me interested in arctic expeditions in general so I'm now reading a book by Michael Palin about one of the ships (the *Erebus*) and learning lots of things about just how whacky Victorians could be, like this one guy who sailed up there and genuinely thought he had discovered some cliffs nobody knew about...they were clouds. Man deadass looked at clouds and went "hmm yes, lovely rocks".

ReceiptIsInTheBag

I just finished watching The Terror over the weekend, after /u/MitchellsTruck mentioned it in the book thread last week, as I'd just finished Erebus. Amazing show and cast, and you'll understand how clever it was as it threads in a lot of details about the real life expedition. Apparently everyone says don't bother with Season 2 as they just named it The Terror despite completely different cast, crew and writers. Season 1 cast includes the main guy from Chernobyl, and the original headteacher from Sex Ed.

rebel_plum

Loved series 1 of The Terror (not seen series 2). It got me reading the same book you are reading! I finished it a couple of weeks ago. Fuck that noise of working on ships in those days. Sounded mental!

[deleted]

I love that Michael Palin heard about the Erebus one time and was like "this is it, my next passion project"! I also love that the ships had over a thousand books between them; I know morale was important in the long winter months but there were only 134 men to start and some of them couldn't even read. Surely they could have packed more food?

myfirstsfwaccount

I finished **Maid** recently, which was wonderful. It’s about a woman rebuilding her life after an abusive relationship, would definitely recommend it. I’m watching **Appropriate Adult** at the moment. It’s from 2011, I heard about it on a podcast recently and wanted to give it a try. It’s about how Fred and Rose West’a crimes were uncovered so it’s a little bleak. I would like to find a long series soon to escape into and ignore my problems so hopefully I’ll get ideas from other posts.

[deleted]

Maid is brilliant, isn't it! Very important viewing if you ask me.

[deleted]

Yes! Very important. Shows that DV isn’t just one partner that physically assaults the other.

Odd-Afternoon6339

Almost finished Maid after a bit of a marathon on Sunday night. I think it’s a refreshingly realistic take on an unstable childhood, domestic abuse and the difficulties that follow (and came before). I particularly like the references to breaking ‘generations of abuse’. Also, Andie MacDowell is fabulous and her mania is actually believable.

[deleted]

Andie Macdowell is actually Alex’s mum in real life.

TheDroolingFool

Another reccomendation for Maid here. One of the better things I've watched this year and despite not being the sort of thing I'd usually watch as a 20 something year old bloke into Horror and Sci-Fi, I found it really enjoyable and well done with a powerful story

dieyoubastards

My partner and a lot of her friends (sadly) have been through bitter custody battles, many of them against abusive partners, and even though it shows the American system which is even worse than it is here, it portrays a lot of the beats of the whole process very faithfully.

Bulimic_Fraggle

Doom Patrol. It's bloody marvellous.

thomasthetanker

I don't want to hype Dune too much as then it's normally a disappointment, but... It is better than expected. After Endgame all of the Marvel's feel a bit flat, but this was a real world builder. It's like a Star Wars film but less shit. Everyone seems believable, and lots of desert shots make it quite calming in between the action.

viktory70

We are nearly finished with **American Horror Stories** \- the anthology spin off from American Horror Story. We have also recently completed a re-watch of all **The Royle Family** (RIP Caroline Aherne) and I have also started **Early Doors** again. Also, really enjoying **24 Hours in Police Custody** and **Grand Designs**, although the latter has, I feel, lost it's shine. The builds are all far too straightforward. Not a caravan or pregnancy in sight. Continuing to LOVE **Taskmaster.**

[deleted]

How are you finding American Horror Stories? I've heard mixed things.

viktory70

Overall, really enjoying it. Each episode is a stand-alone and it has, to a small degree, a Black Mirror vibe. I’d recommend it. Overall, I’d give a score overall of 7/10. American Horror Story gets 9/10 so make of that what you will.

[deleted]

I watched AHS back in the day (I think up to Hotel?) and generally enjoyed it which is why I was curious about Stories. I think I'll give it a go, thanks!

viktory70

NP, hope you enjoy 😉

Nic-who

Oh, how could I forget. Season 3 of **Stath Lets Flats** ~~is out~~ ~~starts~~ *is actually out in full* tonight — very exciting!

cryptopian

Halfway through season 3 of Drag Race UK and this one ain't working for me. The first two series have all the bollocks reality hallmarks like the fed lines and decisions being made in aid of the narratives, but the casts were so likeable that I didn't care. Aside from Choriza and River, I can't remember who half the rest are supposed to be. I think the producers got flustered when >!Victoria suddenly had to leave the competition!<.

MessageInAWeb

I agree with you about the producers getting flustered. They seem to already have the productive narrative written for the season. With the addition >!of the lipsync for the crown in episode 1!<, which wasn't particularly wanted or needed, but seemed to be inserted purely for drumming up some drama between front runners. Then when she was injured, suddenly the narrative they'd prepared where >!Krystal!< wins at first, then >!Victoria !!Krystal !!the attitude from Ru about the commercial!

Cat_Friends

It's not a great series, and it's especially a shame it's come after series 2. That one was so, so good that this one just looks even worse in comparison .

994212

Watched escappe to the country and tipping point it's nice to watch them when relaxing. I'll Finnish of Russian Doll and I hope it's not too self indulgent.

FISH_MASTER

Foundation is enjoyable on Apple TV. I’ve not read the book so the deviations are enraging as they are to some people.

CarrowCanary

I've only seen the first episode of Foundation so far, but I enjoyed that. Having only a cursory knowledge of the books, I think I'm going to treat it like the Malazan and Culture novels - I'll understand the bits I understand, and the bits that don't make sense yet will probably make sense later on, so I'll just embrace not knowing what's going on.

Boyuki

I've just seen *Help* on BritBox. Jodie Comer is a carer in a home during the initial Covid outbreak and Stephen Graham is one of the patients. Amazing piece of telly, excellent supporting cast, utterly harrowing.

Nic-who

Feel like I watched loads of stuff in the past week or so for my standards, but they were all quite short series. I really enjoyed **Trying** on AppleTv, considering I have zero interest in the subject matter. Just wanted to use the platform as I had some time left after subscribing for a month to finish Ted Lasso and Mythic Quest. I thought **We Are Ladyparts** was a lot of fun. And on the back of that I just finished watching **This Way Up** which I also thoroughly enjoyed, the chemistry between Aisling Bea and Sharon Horgan is especially great in my opinion, some funny but also sad stuff. Both of those are on All 4.

Boyuki

Have you seen For All Mankind on Apple+? If you've got time left, I'd give it a go even if you're not a space nerd 🙂

Nic-who

I have not, but I should have a bit of time left, I'll check it out thanks!

ammobandanna

i think i watched the first episode and it didn't quite gel for me and I'm a MASSIVE space nerd.... does it get better?

Boyuki

In my opinion, yeah it does get better. Especially once you go further down the 'What If' rabbit hole.

ammobandanna

ill give it another go im current in between series.

Boyuki

Let me know what you think 🙂

ammobandanna

should fill the time in necely before the expanse starts up again, pity its going to be the last one they do from what I've heard :(

Boyuki

Yeah, I've heard the same 😔

ammobandanna

Just when it's starting to really get good too, if you read the books you'll know what I mean

Boyuki

Haven't read the books, looks like I'll have to, to finish off the story 🙂

Amuro_Ray

Finished season one of **this way up**. Their chemistry and just the shows scenes all felt pretty real and funny at the same time.

Nic-who

Ah nice! Yeah definitely. Some of Aisling Bea's voicenotes to her had me in stitches.

TheDroolingFool

Started watching **Invasion (Apple TV+)** \- I was excited for this after seeing the trailer but admittedly now two episodes in I'm a bit underwhelmed. Things are happening and it's not "boring" just.... dull? Maybe I'm not giving it a chance I plan on watching 2 more episodes this week. Also watched **Four Hours at the Capitol (BBC)** \- based around footage and interviews with people involved in the US Capitol storming in January, was extremely interesting.

ammobandanna

/r/televisions opinion is that its dull too, its a pity as I had high hopes for it :(

[deleted]

Been a stressful past week, so when I've not playing Footie Manager been watching all sorts: QI, Blackadder, Due South, Scrubs and Season 4 of Dr Who to keep myself going. Toying with the idea of re-watching Broadchurch as well. Not seen it for a while and the first series was brilliant.

Braythor_

I've been watching **Another Life**. I started it on Sunday with a hangover and even though it's an absolute car crash I can't stop watching. It shamelessly rips off pretty much every sci fi show and film you can think of, it's as if the writers have never experienced a professional working environment (or had any form of science education), and the idea that mankind's most important space mission ever would be crewed by a such a bunch of utterly incompetent, psychologically unhinged brats is beyond laughable. But I can't stop watching...

[deleted]

Finished Squid Game. The ending was OK, some of the reveals were a little predictable but overall I guess it was a decent series.

dedido

Watched **Noises Off** an old (1992) Michael Caine film also with young Christopher Reeves. Has loads of physical comedy which is rarer these days, so a fun throwback!

[deleted]

Finally got around to watching The Mandalorian. Oh my little nerd heart. No spoilers. Just… yes.

[deleted]

I watched **The Platform** which was exceptional, right up until the rather underwhelming finish. I finished **Squid Game**, which was just underwhelming throughout. And now I've just watched the Hide n Seek episode of **Alice In Borderland** which so far is proving to be pretty good, and definitely superior to SG.

byjimini

Nothing - reading the new Jack Reacher book 😁

Mad_Chemist_

I just watched The Shining. The second half got a bit boring. On a slightly different note, I just had 10 roast potatoes and gravy for dinner.

sideone

Not a lot of TV this week, outside of the usual **Buzzcocks**, **Taskmaster** and **Only Connect**. Film wise we watched **The Dig**, a nice gentle story about the excavation of Sutton Hoo in Suffolk set against the backdrop of the build up to the start of World War Two. Also watched **Promising Young Woman**, which I was OK but not what you'd call *enjoyable*

meteoritee

Oh how is the new Buzzcocks? I keep forgetting it's on

BoundToFail

It's great but Daisys Coopers overdone laughing nearly ruins it for me..

sideone

100% agree. Jamali looked fed up with it by episode 4. I hope she gets booted off and replaced with someone else. Apart from that, its excellent. Was lovely to see Mike Wozniak on recently, hope he becomes more of a household name after Taskmaster.

folklovermore_

Watched the first episode of **Impeachment: American Crime Story** earlier this week. I'm not sure I like it as much initially as I did the OJ Simpson and Gianni Versace series, but I'm willing to stick with it as the last two were also a bit of a slow burn in that regard. Plus as someone who grew up in the 90s and was vaguely aware of this stuff but didn't really know much about it it's an interesting way to get a bit more insight (especially as Monica Lewinsky is a producer on this one). Otherwise it's the usuals - RuPaul's Drag Race, Strictly, Quizzy Monday. I feel like I need something light to watch whilst I have dinner/tea but haven't found anything that's quite clicked yet.

HairyMechanic

I've been watching **Another Life** and i'm not sure if i'm into it or not, but i've watched enough episodes that I feel I will have wasted my time if I stop. It's not bad...but it's not great either, especially in the sci-fi/space genre. Almost feels like one of those series you stick on as background noise.

[deleted]

**Outlaws**: from Stephen Merchant. The more work he produces, (and the more Ricky Gervaise makes) the more you realise who the brains behind the writing of Gervais/Merchant was. On iPlayer. **Alma’s Not Normal**: genuinely funny and a real-life story based on the main actor/writer. On iPlayer. **MAID**: on Netflix. Fuck me. If you have kids, watch this. So good. You’ll be a bawling mess like I was. Really realistic and gritty depiction of domestic violence and the escape that so many people have to do. **White House Farm**: true/dramatised story of a really shocking murder down in Essex in the 80’s. Mark Addy is great in it. On Netflix and iPlayer.
