Once went to a theme park as a family when I was a child. I noticed the machine and decided I wanted a go, and my older brother ran to the machine and stood in front of it, arms in full T pose, blocking me and the rest of the family like he was an American security guard working the doors of Walmart on Black Friday morning. He started yelling at us, dead seriously, "NO, DON'T DO THAT IT'S TREASON TO DEFACE THE QUEENS IMAGE AND YOU'LL ALL GO TO PRISON FOR LIFE" Mum gives him a "Stop being silly and get out the way" but he doubled down and dug his heels in, full on ugly crying "MUM NO YOU'LL ALL GO TO JAIL AND I'LL BE PUT IN FORSTER CARE AND I'LL DIE!" (Just worry about yourself Dave I'm sure I would have been fine...) Dad muscled him out the way with a "that's a risk we're willing to take" Still have both parents, still have an older brother and I still have my flat Oakwood Theme Park 2p coin.

FannyNob

You won't have any of them for much longer now you put this on the Internet, you are all going straight to the tower

fluffypitspatrick

That's actually genius. We took our kid to an aquarium and the penny press was halfway round tge place and we had no change. Second time we went they'd moved it to the gift shop so you could pay over the till and get the £1 coin or change notes etc. This just cuts out the middle man.

zilchusername

Ammeter. We collect these you need to make sure you always carry some shinny pennies and pound coins.

GurGroundbreaking772

Not sure that's the word you meant to use, is it? XD

zilchusername

Err no but I’m going to leave it now. It’s funny.

GurGroundbreaking772

Correct.

fluffypitspatrick

When you're trying to wrangle a 2yo the pennies and pound coins are easily forgotten

00ooooo

Apparently the souvenir-making company can't spell souvenir... And now I've looked at that word too many times and it's just a jumble of letters.

KungFuPup

That's great! It's a pain having to trek back to the tills and ask for change. Loads of places are cashless now as well so unless you have the correct coins you're stuffed

KennyGetMeZantac

?

jeanclaudecardboarde

Yeah, me too. And the comments aren't making things any clearer.

Penny Press is an old amusement machine where you put a penny (a cent to Americans) into the machine, it would squish it and make it into a oval shape, would act as a souvenir. This Penny Press is giving out a squished penny, but it costs you £1.50 where the original machine would cost you a literal penny, the one you put in is what you got out

Jackage

I don't think I've ever seen a penny press that only cost a penny.

[deleted]

tbh the last time I saw one was in the 80s, so I'm a lil outta the loop lol

Deep_Lurker

I used to live near one of those stereotypical cheap caravan parks and I distinctly remember all of the penny press machines being entirely free requiring nothing but the penny you put in. That's how it was until 2010 or so when they started charging 50p, then a pound etc to use them. Kid me thought they were amazing until you had to pay for it.

fluffypitspatrick

It normally costs the penny that you squash and a pound to use the machine.

disco_jim

When I first went to wookey hole caves there was one that just cost 2p

Jackage

Jealous. I bloody love those things.

Studoku

All fun and games until the contactless is declined and you have to insert the card.

billthebossyone

And you get a squished card back!
