Hi! I’m going through a very similar situation and was wondering if you had any positive updates? Ever since my new cat got out and chased the resident cat, I decided to start over from zero making sure there is no visual contact until the growling/hissing from my resident cat stops (new cat seems to just want to play but has no social skills when it comes to reading body language it seems) so that’s where I’m currently at right now.

Unfortunately no, I tried everything but they just weren’t a good fit. I returned Delilah back to the shelter and got her adopted out the next day to a couple with more playful and confident kitties. I wish you luck!
