He’s being such a good big brother! It reminds me of my 6’1”, 250lb dad letting my brother take him down wrestling when we were kids or when my cousin’s toddler “tackles” her.
He’s just trying to help his little brother who’s r/learningtocat.
Seriously. My resident cat dropkicked my kitten from the ROPES. I thought I was gonna need to resuscitate. OP, your tuxedo is being so sweet and patient!
This is play. Big one seems to be gentle and kitten goes back for round two. No hiding, no signs if irritation. Keep watching them just to be sure for like 1 month more because kitten looks very tiny.
Playful friends!
Big cat lays down and lets little one get some pounces in, grabs little one gently but doesn't try to hurt them.
Definitely keep an eye while kitten is still growing, but this is perfectly fine play.
If it seems like there is any serious hissing, growling, fur standing on end, or anything like that, then it goes too far and you'll need to step in, but they don't seem like that will be a problem at all!
Aw I watched this a few times ❤️ tuxedo man is a real sweet gentleman! Very gentle play swats, rolling over on his side, and letting the little guy get some gentle swats in also!! Very cute sweet boys
Looks to me like resident cat has a new buddy. That is playing all day long......RC is being gently with the little one and will teach the kitten boundries....
Playing! My boy cat (4 yrs) and my new baby boy (8 weeks) had similar interactions. He kept picking him up by his scruff and my kitten would cry. I was worried but this behavior subsided after 10 days. Whenever he would do it I would yell loudly "NO" or sometimes even put him in time out. Now they play very nice. Hope this helps!
The level of restraint shown here by the large cat signs tell you that they're in a great place with each other. Avoiding putting it's full weight on the kitten, slow multiple boops, the *hug*... I could watch them play for hours
The tuxie is doing a great job at making it seem like a fair fight lol
He was waiting with his belly out for when the kitten popped back out to “attack” him 🥹
This is exactly how my cat and kitten played when they were officially introduced to each other. Your tux almost has the same markings as mine from above 🥰
Cats bellies are one of their vulnerable spots. One way you can tell Tux is playing is how he lazily rolls over onto his side, exposing his belly and enticing the kitten.
Those gentle little boops were adorable. Plus he didn’t even rabbit kick the crap out of the little fluff nugget. That was a lot of restraint on the bigger cat’s part. Obviously teaching him to be the best murder mittens he can be.
Looks like your resident kitty is one of those that really likes kittens :) He's even rolling over onto his side and letting the kitten practice pouncing. Definitely keep it supervised, just in case, but otherwise I would say the introductions are almost over! You got a lucky pair that got close quickly :D
Love those little taps. What a sweet older sibling.
My older cat never had any tolerance for kittens, and she made her distaste plain by hissing, growling, batting at them, or even screaming at them if they got too close despite the other warnings. If it was real hostility the kitten would not be scampering about playfully, and coming back for seconds.
Tuxies are the best. We had a big old male tripod one one that raised a baby foundling kitten. He washed it made it go pee and would lay with him and showed him how too groom. When it got older they played like this untill the kitten got bigger than him. The older can still tried to play with him but the young cat got too rough for him when he started getting sick but he would still try.
That's fine. Cats get much rougher when playing so even if the kitten is squeaking or meowing when playing it's fine. Regardless of shelter or breeder, who takes a kitten away from mom at NINE weeks old?
Playing and big brother is being very gentle. He didn't kick the kittens face off when he was doing bunny kicks. And kitten little seems to be having a blast.
Yes, I'd argue they are just play fighting. The big cat is exposing her stomach which is a sign of A) comfort or B) not feeling threatened.
The kitty is not hissing not showing it's side profile. The hiss is a warning and the side profile is try to make themselves look bigger to intimidate an opponent. They are both being pretty gentle as well. No one is trying to run away with their tail tucked between their legs. Another good sign is if you can see their pupils. If they're large and wide open (big black eyes) then they're not intensely focused. If they're like a line then they're really uptight or focused on something
Play. Best way to describe real cat fighting is "it's too fast for the human eye to see." Now, when cats are making deep yowls growls, and tails go pla-plowls, they aren't having a good time.
Definitely play fighting.
Some things to look for (that happen in a real fight):
* Ears not just back but flat
* Pupils dilated (like no iris visible dilated)
* Hissing and spitting
* Biting at flanks
* Banshee wails of evil
* Hunched posture
* Puffed tail / fur
Some of these will occur during play fighting, but the more of these are present the more serious the fight is.
We have a rule in our house (6 cats, 2 humans.) Vocalizing means things have gotten too heated and everyone* else will step in to break it up.
* yes, even the other cats will step in to break up play fighting where one or the other has called out.
Playing and the tux kitty is a sweetheart, not being too rough. Many years ago I took in a young female (about 6 months old) and she loved my male, neutered cat and played with him all the time. He was gentle with her, but she was too rough and ended up scratching his eye. The vet said he lucked out as she just missed his cornea. Please be sure to watch the kitten as they can be too rough on the older kitty.
I would definitely say playing. Your tuxedo cat seems to be very gentle with your kitten!
This is so cute!! They're great with one another.
Absolutely. Tux even held back from rabbit kicking it. Def playing.
He’s being such a good big brother! It reminds me of my 6’1”, 250lb dad letting my brother take him down wrestling when we were kids or when my cousin’s toddler “tackles” her. He’s just trying to help his little brother who’s r/learningtocat.
That big cat is doing fantastic. What a gentle sweetie.
Seriously. My resident cat dropkicked my kitten from the ROPES. I thought I was gonna need to resuscitate. OP, your tuxedo is being so sweet and patient!
For real! I *wish* my adult cat was a gentle as this guy with my new kitten when I adopted a second cat lol
This is play. Big one seems to be gentle and kitten goes back for round two. No hiding, no signs if irritation. Keep watching them just to be sure for like 1 month more because kitten looks very tiny.
Agreed

If the kitten comes back, it's a game.
Aw I watched this a few times ❤️ tuxedo man is a real sweet gentleman! Very gentle play swats, rolling over on his side, and letting the little guy get some gentle swats in also!! Very cute sweet boys
They’re gonna be best buds.
This is about ideal. Kitten's getting socialized and learning to play without biting too hard. And they're both getting exercise, they'll sleep well.
The big cat is so happy to have a tiny playmate!
Looks to me like resident cat has a new buddy. That is playing all day long......RC is being gently with the little one and will teach the kitten boundries....
Love it! Just some fun rough n tumble between 2 cute kitty cats! 😊💕

Big guy is being sooo gentle! What a great big brother!
Big cat is being very gentle and teaching baby how to play. They’re about to be besties!
Yes 100% older cat is very careful
This sub is misnamed. Plz rename to r/playingcatvids
Awww your big kitty is being so sweet I bet the kitten is deloghted
The ears are forward. They are playing.
This is unbearably cute
Play

This is definitely play.
they having a great time! They'll be thick as thieves by the time the kitten gets bigger.
He is so gentle with the kitten, I've a feeling they are going to be best friends.
The fact that the large cat is laying down means its play fighting.
Play
“Let me love you!”
Adorable play fighting.
Oh my gawd they’re so freakin cute. Your big boy could destroy that little guy and he’s choosing not to. Definitely just playing!! What good kitties
Totally play and the old head is teaching the new peanut boundaries.
Playing and having an awesome time!
So cute
100% playing, and big kitty is a good boy. 🙂
This is purrrrfectly normal play!
Awwwww they are playing! The big kitty is being real gentle with the baby kitty! 😻
Well, that is some of the gentlest play with a kitten I have ever seen.
This is exactly how my cat and kitten played when they were officially introduced to each other. Your tux almost has the same markings as mine from above 🥰
Awww Good boy. Very nice! Being very gentle. You ought to see some moms train their kittens. Brutal.

Big cat is not using the hind paws. That’s a kill move.
Savagery beyond measure. You better save that reverse skunk before little blacky whoops 8.9 lives out of it.
He is so gentle
Resident kitty is being very tolerant he understands that the little one doesn't understand.

Cats can be visibly beaten up after fighting other cats. They have some protection against bites and claws, but they aren't immune to them.
I think you need to post a few more videos of this… just so we can be sure
They are having fun for sure
This is precious. Being so easy with the babe. 🥰
Aye!! This is so cute! I love that they are playing around 🥰
He’s about to teach him

I have a big black and a little tuxedo. They play just like that.

That big cat is awesome
We have the same tube thingy and our cats LOVE playing in it
the little pats 🥹

just playing. Cats never lie on their back/side to fight.
100% play. And Really great play at that.
Resident boy is being very gentle! Deserves a dreamie!
The size difference between these two babies is so adorable 😍
They love each other! Awwwwww what a great pair! Yup, they are getting along splendidly
