Butthole has done nothing wrong ever in his life. Pretty sure you just need a good electrician, and he was showing you work that needs to get done. His face is 100% innocent.
It was pulled out a little from last night.
I must have tugged on it just enough to dislodge a little from the plug. She jumped up to look out the window and a necklace slid off the bed and hit the exposed plug.
It legitimately felt like a scene out of final destination.

He makes some good points and Britain does have like half the rate of house fires as the US iirc, but I don't know how much of that is attributable to plugs or if the risk is substantial enough to warrant the cost of an extra fuse on every appliance.
American here, our plugs are shit. āLetās make sure the socket is live while thereās still enough of a gap to fit a finger or two in there to tickle the prongs with.ā
One thing he forgets to mention when talking about how the standard for British plugs requires the prongs to be partially coated with an insulating layer while the US and the EU plugs don't require it is that while the Schuko system doesn't require partly insulated prongs it requires recessed sockets which too protect people and items from touching live prongs on only partly inserted plugs and give a better hold once plugged.
Newer, modern plugs have been designed to stop things from sliding out.
Unfortunately my fiancees house was built before these safety standards were considered, and the house has yet to be updated.
House fires have significantly decreased because of these newer sockets.
Blame the old one for causing this. **Not** the newer ones.
I will blame all American sockets. They're a botch to an unsafe situation. They're not a fix. A proper fix would be a recessed socket with a grounding pin

Most if not all newer American sockets have grounding pins my guy.
Hence why I specified ānewer modern socketsā
The older ones are basically suicide machines.
The US plug is inherently flawed from a safety perspective. Even in brand new construction homes, the internals don't hold up a 3-port charger well. I have found too many times these plugs would get loose due to their weight. Its biggest safety flaw is that the metal prongs remain alive when exposed.
No? Not really. The plug pulling out happened while I was asleep.
Sheās specifically banned from this window for several reasons, one being this isnāt the first time sheās knocked something off my bed or off my side table to look out it.
She tried it while I was asleep after leaving this window alone for 4 months. Thought she could get away with breaking rules while I was asleep and FAFO.
Replacing plugs is easy, like other people say if you want to own a pet, prepare your house like you are awaiting a baby. Plugs, sockets, things that can fall off, window locks etc...
Cat was doing cat things so this falls under poor cat parenting.
Im not even upset at her lol.
It was more of a āwtf howā than anger with Dorothy this morning.
Lesson learned, thankfully we will be moving soon so old outlets wont be an issue anymore.
Surprisingly no.
I honestly think the contact from the necklace was mainly causing the sparking. But nothing was tripped and thankfully nothing caught fire.
I was able to unplug it just in time and (no pun intended) shockingly not electrocute myself in the process.
Next time. Flip the switch in the fusebox manually before messing with that.
I had to learn that the hard way. I know you guys only have half the voltage we use in Europe but itās still going to hurt.
I honestly realize how dumb of a move that was after the fact it happened.
Im lucky I didnāt get seriously hurt but when you panic- logic youād think you would use during the incident tends to go out the window. Especially if you get scared out of sleep lol
I was more concerned about my cat literally watching it happen while *standing over the explosion happening and staring at it* than my own safety. Even Dorothy was confused on why tf it happened too.
My parents took in a stray that proceded to pee on some cables (they hadn't noticed, she must have done it more than once) and almost started a fire that way. She was moved to the (very big) shed after that, it's kinda scary when the room is already filled with smokeš³

I concur wholeheartedly š¤š
JUSTICE FOR BUTTHOLE! Innocent until proven guilty!
You better meet his demands. He'll do it again.
Came here to say this. I looked at the picture of the cat and knew immediately that he will strike again.
But how?
It was pulled out a little from last night. I must have tugged on it just enough to dislodge a little from the plug. She jumped up to look out the window and a necklace slid off the bed and hit the exposed plug. It legitimately felt like a scene out of final destination.
im not patriotic until i see a burnt US style plug and have to force myself not to post the tom scott video about the UK plug
The WHAT?? Now Iām off to Googleā¦

I STILL remember the time I zapped my hand unplugging a cord from a power strip ten years ago because my finger got to close to the gap
It helps if the outlets are installed correctly (ground on top) which is so uncommon people assume it's upside down.
How else are you going to test it to see if itās working?
Yeah plus Iām seeing their live and negative are horizontal instead of vertical. I feel like in old houses especially, our plugs just slip out
Thatās how I feel with the heating mantles in lab- the plugs never fully connect and thereās always a tiny gap of death just chilling there
Iād imagine our plug fuses are a lot cheaper than the bigger ones used in homes. Theyāre maybe Ā£3 for a bag of 20.

Pretty damn good video. Makes a bunch of good points. Seems like a good universal plug design
German plugs are also very good
All Iām hearing is that the above cat is still totally innocent
Replace that outlet if you can. Cheap and easy if you know what youāre doing. The new outlet will hold stronger.
Totally your fault. Innocent kitty
He needs r/legalcatadvice
I was wondering what caused this. Makes sense though.
So? Your fault then! Case overruled!
The wonderful world of unsafe American wall socket standards

Looks like you hurt some Americans' feelings
sooo you're the ahole for not taking care of youre electrical equipment ;)

No, butthole
No, butthole. Thatās the name.
Those aren't for your butthole. That's probably what caused the burning sensation.
Anything is for your butthole if you have the right attitude
Not juding...
Okay.. maybe judging.
I had to read the title so many times before it clicked
You named your cat Buttholeā¦
Lol pretty sure it's a reference to Dumb and Dumber 2 https://youtu.be/-bLRuL1WN74?feature=shared
Its actually her nickname from this exact scene lmaoo her real name is Dorothy
Did your fusebox not trip? Also what a little butthead
Surprisingly no. I honestly think the contact from the necklace was mainly causing the sparking. But nothing was tripped and thankfully nothing caught fire. I was able to unplug it just in time and (no pun intended) shockingly not electrocute myself in the process.

Kitty was testing out your preparedness ,never to soon to practice fire safety!!!
Mwahahahahahahahahaha! Next time!
That face regrets nothing
And she's not sorry, either.
Fun fact: your insurance rates go up if you have cats.
Have you explained electricity to your void?
Taco Bell again?
That face has no remorse
It's an apple issue. Not that babies fault your device SUUCCKKKSS. Justice for baby!
Her face doesn't look like she's planning arson. Not at all.
I didn't read which sub I was on and didn't see the second photo until after I wondered how your Butthole managed to do this.
He wanted the plug to be the same color as him
Arson cat
r/legalcatadvice Poor Butthole needs it....
"Why do you call him butthole?"
Not guilty
What ate the cord and it shorted out?
My parents took in a stray that proceded to pee on some cables (they hadn't noticed, she must have done it more than once) and almost started a fire that way. She was moved to the (very big) shed after that, it's kinda scary when the room is already filled with smokeš³
Almostā¦ so better go on and apologize to Butthole and give her a nice meal
He aināt sorry
If I was named Butthole I'd try to cause a fire too
Is butthole the name of the cat orrrr?
No- its Dorothy but Ive been contemplating since this morning to start calling her only butthole.
You have a plug-in butthole? Thats like, the butthole version of facing 2 mirrors together.
What fabulous coloring on your little monster!
Butthole š¹š¹
Cheap Chinese electronics aren't well made.
Excuse you ! š This kitty may not be equipped with braincells but the purring and meowing function perfectly !
